Backlight Control Tip - Captivate General

I just discovered a very simple way to control your backlight on your captivate. Just slide your finger left or right on your top task bar
. left to reduce brightness and right to increase brightness.
Try it out.

Awesome tip!
That explains why my screen would dim/brighten when I'd swype my that status bar for notifications. I had chalked it up to a glitch.

This does not work for me. Some of the things I have added? Beautiful Widgets?

i have to agree, i was really a big big big big big HTC Loyalist, and after my fuze, had decided to never buy another phone unless it was made by HTC... but with AT&T's failure to pick up one of the high end HTC Android devices, i decided to give the Captivate a go... and i am SUPER Impressed!!

WOW fantastic find!!! 99% of the time I use auto brightness, but this is a fantastic tip for adjusting the brightness quickly when needed.

Changing the display brightness from the status bar

I noticed that if I hold and slide my finger on the status bar, the brightness will change accordingly: to the left = darker and to the right = brighter. Is it documented anywhere?
Not sure if extremely well known, but it has at least been brought up several times in different captivate threads.

android battery bar

ok, a few years back, my windows phone had this really cool app, it was a bar across the top that was 1 or 2 pixels tall, multi colored that displayed the amount of battery left. someone told me it was in a rom, but I can't find it to save my life. maybe one of you has seen it or knows which mod, or anything about it, because I would LOVE to have that stupid little bar back.
Thanks
Pat.

It's built in to Cyanogen mod, if that's available for your particular decide. Not multi color as far as I know though.

sorry if im mistaken, i dont think this feature is on cyanogen mod. It is however on most of the 'MIUI' roms, i think it is standard on there.
Is this possible to have standalone? This would complete my device.

Some issues I've run into

Overall I'm definitely loving this phone
One thing I've noticed is that in a dark room this phone is ridiculously bright on auto
And that the high level of brightness are causing a little bit of color washout
Swype worked initially, I switched keyboards and then switched back now it shows up half the size it should be
(Another thing I hadn't realized is how many apps wouldn't be coded for ics yet, looking for native ics app suggestions)
(Also is there a way to make the battery in the notification bar have a percentage)
Is anyone else having these issues?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
I agree with you on the brightness. Once we have the bootloader unlocked there are ways to change the auto brightness sensitivity. Same with the battery %.
The swype issue is an issue with the swype beta. I have already posted on their forums reporting the bug.
As for apps, they're being updated for ICS slowly but surely. Be patient

No I haven't seen that thread.
Swype alternatives? Nothing is quite the same as Swype, but Swiftkey X is pretty damn good for standard touch typing.
Idk I just find it surprising that even huge apps ex. Facebook haven't been updated yet. Then again barely any devices have ics so......

Actually the default keyboard is swipe enabled. I actually like it better because the auto correct seems to be more accurate. It had its flaws but it is great for swipe and touch typing whereas swype sucks for touch typing.

Just an fyi, if you use notification toggles, you get not only the toggles but you can also set the app icon in the status bar to show battery with percent . It's kinda a bandaid for now but it works for me till we can get some custom Rom goodness.

which is weird, but then again other apps have darker blues

[app] brightness apps

Been several posts in Q&A, and in general about best methods for adjusting brightness. Personally I like the slider in the notification tray, but the app Q Bright is by far the best app I've used for this purpose. Full slider, 4 customizable presets, full app customizations, fast acting, oh yeah, it's free.
Thought I'd share.
It's actually Qbright one word
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
I like screen filter. It's free as well. It can make the screen go dimmer than with the notification slider. Q bright is pretty cool too. Wish I had a search key to long press to bring it up though haha
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
I've been using Lux for awhile now and it's been working great.
I also use lux, but everytime i reboot i have to open the dash to get it to work. I have the notification icon active, which always says for some reason 50% after boot until I click it. Lux works with tasker and i like that for profiling.
<quick hijack>I've been on the hunt for a widget I can pop in my homescreen that will jump between preset brightness levels. I generally keep my phone around 5% or so but when I'm outside I can't see that. I can pull down the notifications and adjust the slider but a button on my homescreen is much easier.
This one works pretty well but the icon doesn't center properly and my ocd brain can't take it. Plus sometimes it will just jump between 30%-100%...No idea why.
Sorry for derailing the thread
</hijack>
Saw that too, I couldn't deal with the off center widget either. I mean seriously, wtf? Who wants that on their screen?

the best app I have ever used for adjusting screen brightness and saving your battery would be LUX. It is in the Market for free but the paid options are far worth it.

I agree. This is what I've been using for.months and love it! It allows you to set custom presets based on the current luxury, which you can use the default reader or even use the camera to detect. I use default, and set customs by long pressing the link button on the luxury widget.
