Just Rooted G1, Battery Issues - General Questions and Answers

Hello All,
This is my first post, hope someone sees it and can help me.
I've had my G1 for about a year and a half and finally decided to root it. I did TONS of reading and research before starting because I really didn't want to brick my phone being it is my daily user. I successfully rooted it and loaded the CM6 ROM. Everything was working fine, except the battery.
Now I will admit one thing I did wrong, when reading the tutorial, it stated to make sure I had a full battery before rooting the phone. I had something like 45% and was simply impatient. I went through the whole process and by the time I was done it was down only to 43%. Battery life while using the phone normally is actually pretty good, however my issue is the following:
My battery drains instead charges while the phone is turned on. In order for me to charge the battery at all, the phone has to be turned off. So if i'm tethering the phone, or even if I hook up my phone to the computer to access the sd card, or if use the wall charger, the battery actually goes down.
Now i've read tons of forum threads on battery issues with the G1 after rooting, particularly after loading CM5. I've actually downgraded back to the stock ROM that I used when I first rooted, because I thought that CM6 was what might be causing this issue, but it's still doing the same thing, (backwards charging when plugged in aka draining the battery instead of charging it when plugged in and powered on) although not as fast as before.
I've also tried this tutorial I found on cyanogenmod forums called BATTERY DRAIN ISSUE FIXER-UPPER with no success.
(tried posting the link, but wasn't able to because this is my first post)
Does anyone have any advice as to what I can do?
Any help would be very greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I seem to be having the exact problem...
Do you get the charging indicator light when trying to charge while the phone is off or at anytime while trying to charge?

Phone is dead. Nothing works :(

Hi all, laid down to take a nap and woke up to a dead Thunderbolt. I can't get it to turn on, no indication light is shown when it is connected to the charger, and I get an unknown device when plugging into USB and trying to ADB reboot.
Everything was fine right before I took a nap and now nothing works . I've never flashed leaked radios and the latest ROM I was running was CM7 RC1.2 with the stock kernel. Not really sure what else to do at this point except weep.
try pulling out the battery?
Tried several battery pulls and none seemed to make a difference. My phone decided to come alive again just a few minutes ago on its own. Now I'm really perplexed by what happened and worried this may happen again in the future.
Uber-weird...
I read this post last night, then woke up this morning with the same symptoms. Plugged it into charger and the indicator light just blinked once and then nothing. I guess this is where some might panic but just let it alone, it doesn't have enough juice to power up yet.

yeah i have seen that before...sometimes you just gotta leave it plugged in to charge for a little before you can boot up the phone
Agreed let it charge a while or go get a new battery and try it

Yesterday when this happened, I was at around 50% battery life. If others are experiencing the same symptoms then we should try to get to the bottom of this somehow. Not really sure what kind of diagnostics or feedback I could submit because other than this freak accident my phone has been running perfectly.

When people had issues like this before for some reason they experienced battery drain and didn't realize the battery was really dead. If its that it could be a bad app, rom issue, or kernel issue.
If is battery after you fully charge I would wipe battery stats then maybe run a rom of your chosing without unnecessary mods or apps to see if it still happens

I have had this happen to me twice in the past few weeks. Each time I just left it alone, charging, and tried powering on after several minutes (10+). I would then fully charge and calibrate the battery.
To OP .... i also had an issue like this and i ended up having to warranty replace it with VZW.
This one was already a replacement to a previous one, and within minutes of booting it up, it was experiencing 'reboot' problems. Verizon indicated i should wait for the update to fix the issue. I just left the phone plugged into the wall for the weekend (didnt even look at it), and Monday morning it was dead. I pulled battery.... let it sit unplugged, let it sit with pulled battery ... nothing would bring it to life.
is this a rooted phone?
If so, we can flash an alternate kernal to see if that is the problem. Usually powering off problems are related to the kernal in my experience with the TB.
IF NOT,
I would try wiping the device so there are no apps before returning to verizon for a refurbed.
It is not likely but possible you have a misbehaving app draining your batter like crazy.
Also, your phone might be doing something weird like closing system resources when it needs ram by accident thinking its an app or something. I've seen that happen before.
I have had this problem twice in the last three days. The two days it happened, I woke up to a dead phone while still plugged in. Unplugged it and put it back on the charger and it eventually turned on. I use it as my alarm clock, so its getting frustrating having to rush to get ready in the morning because my phone dies when on the charger. It is rooted with bamf 3.0, but I haven't done anything to it in months just because it ran so good. I am going to check my app stats to see what I may have downloaded.

[Q] Can not get correct battery reading! Please Help!!

All of a sudden my phone started to turn off when it read that there was still battery life left on device. But it will not boot up until I plug it into a charger. Once I do, there are times it reads 100% charge, random %, or completely dead. Since the first time there hasn't been a time it has properly drain the battery with a proper shut down. I have done numerous factory resets and complete wipe/fresh ROM flash. Currently I am on CM snapshot M6. If anyone could please me that would be great. It is starting to become pain in my side.
Thanks.

Battery problem

Hi guys,
I'm running cataclysm + elemental kernel and everything was working fine but from Saturday to Sunday i let the phone's battery goes down to 0. Next day, i connected the charger to the nexus 5 and the phone was not able to boot. My apps were being optimized and it never completed for all aps. So, i let the phone charge 30 minutes and then i was able to turn it on. Now the problem is, the phone charged extremely slowly and never reached 100, only 98?? Another thing, is that now my battery is draining quickly. It drained 15% over night without anything turned on (not even WIFI) and checked with GSAM battery and android system was with 26% of usage . It could be anything related with the charger?? It has been working fine for more than a year. I would like to try to understand what might be the problem before trying return to stock and check if it solves this.
Thanks in advance for your help!
I tried now to connect it to my laptop and the device isn't recognized at my laptop. I already tried with two USB cables. At the bootloader it was able to recognize it, but not always. I'm getting scared that might be a hardware issue. Please, anyone has any idea of what might be happening??
Thanks a lot!

HTC one mini dies at random times?

I have a huge problem with my HTC one mini. I can have my phone full charged and when I take it off, and run something that uses a lot of power, it dies, at 95%. I can immediately turn it back on and it reports 60% or even 1%. It is acting up, and it happens on stock and custom rom as well. Any ideas?
HTC one mini
Android 4.4.2
S off
Unlocked bootloader
Let me know if you need more info to fix the problem
Thanks:good:
Hey there. I'm new here.
I had the same issue, and from what i've been able to figure out the battery is dead... Well dying.
Mine totally died a few days ago and i can't even charge it anymore. Charging led not turning on, let it charge 24 hours, still nothing.
I've seen a lot of "fixes" where you reset a lot of stuff and so on, but nothing has worked. And since it's completely dead now well i guess it can only be the battery.
The phone is pretty easy to disassemble and change the battery, in my opinion, if you have the right tools of course
I think you can get a new battery for around 30$
Hope it helps
Ps: mine did it with stock rom, and custom rom, old ones and new ones. Started a few months ago dying at 60% and lately it turned off with 85% battery left.

Weird battery drain - 1% per second even when charging

Hi, I decided to post this in a new thread because it's a different behavior from others I've seen in this forum. If the admin says I shouldn't, I can delete it and post it on other thread!
Posted videos of the issue:

My nexus 5 had a custom ROM, unrooted, simple apps (facebook, twitter, etc) and original screen and battery.
After crashing the screen, I bought a new one plus a new battery. Immediately after connecting the new screen plug and the new battery plug, the flat cable started to overheat, and the screen never turned on - ok, something is bogus. I tried again with the old battery and had the same problem. So, the screen must be no good, I just reinstalled the other broken one that still works.
However, since then, the cellphone always is turned on with 100% battery even knowing that it is not fully charged. And, a little while after, it starts to drain, 1% per second, even when I'm charging it, untill it turns off, or - sometimes - get back to 100%.
While on bootloader, it never turn itself off, thou. But if I turn it on, sometimes this happens, sometimes the cell only works untill the lockscreen and immediately turns itself off - even while charging or hours after charging. (pls check the youtube videos)
What i have tried:
Change the charger and cable
Use original charger
Switch back to the old battery (same problem)
Reinstall ROM
Reinstall Original ROM from google
Wipe batterystats.bin (I know, I know, just in case)
Install battery calibration apps
Root and install battery calibration apps
Charge to 100%, let it drain to 20% and recharge (thou it constantly drops)
Charge all night
Wait to drain a lot and charge again
Wait to drain a bit and charge again...
And nothing worked.
I saw no similar issue on this forum, even on the "battery drain while charging" posts, they're not exactly the same issue.
So... is it possible that crappy screen broke my both batteries? Anyone know what else could I try?

Figured out the problem and fixed it. Posting it here in case someone has this issue, so after trying everything from getting a new battery to installing different roms, installing various apps rooted and not to see what's draining my battery. Funny how the phone was never going into deep sleep. Anyway long story short the problem was hardware, I changed the flex cable, the whole strip, some may call it the charging strip. Now it's fixed charges to 100% in 2 hours and battery lasts all day.
