Swap a couple words, and that title could be a Viagra commercial
Anyways, looking at the changes we made to reconnect to 4G faster, these values should make us connect sooner, and drop the connection later. Should be good for fringe areas. I'll describe every change and explain what they do, so bear with me:
NOTE: All these changes will be made in the EPST menu. To get there, dial ##DATA# and choose edit mode. You'll have to enter your MSL. Then choose WiMax in the menu. Don't change anything except what I tell you, because you'll eff something up most likely. If this doesn't work for you, I've also mentioned the defaults so you can go back.
WiMAX_Entry_RX(RSSI)(dBm) - Default is -89. This is the minimum signal it has to be picking up to connect. I'm not sure what the best value here is, but the lower the number, the quicker the connect, since it will connect to a weaker signal. You'll have to experiment some with this, I recommend trying about -95 to -100 first. If it's unstable, raise the value closer to -89.
WiMAX_Entry_CINR(dB) - Default is 4. This is the Carrier to Interface Noise Ratio. The higher it is, the clearer the connection has to be to connect. Change it to 3. You may be able to push it all the way down to 2, but that is probably pushing it. EDIT: Sorry, didn't realize you couldn't set this without it being 4 or higher. You can still pick it up with a weaker signal by changing the entry RSSI, but you still have to have a signal without much interference. In reality, that shouldn't matter too much though
WiMAX_Exit_CINR(dB) - Default is 2. See the entry CINR value for an explanation of it. If the signal degrades to a CINR of 2, it will drop the connection. Change this to 1. This should let you stay connected longer. If you run into problems with staying connected but having an unreliable connection, change it back to 2.
WiMAX_Exit_Delay(s) - The default is 2. Since it's measured in seconds, that means if the CINR drops to 2 or below for 2 seconds, it will drop the connection. Raise it to 5. That should be enough to cover just a random drop in signal that will pick back up right away. That way you don't drop connection if you drive under a bridge or something (I'm rocking mine at 15s here, but it'll take any value up to 600 seconds, which is 10 minutes!)
That should be it. I think I explained everything good enough. Let me know if you have any questions & I'll edit the OP. None of these should harm your device, but as usual heres the disclaimer: If you screw up and blame me, I will point and laugh.
I'm not in 4G ATM so I can't test it, but all the principles check out in theory. The only one that cause any 4G instability (ie having signal but not being able to transfer data) is the exit CINR. A value of 1 may be too low to transfer data, but I'm not sure. If you have that issue, just raise it back to 2. The rest will just make it pick up signal sooner.
Let me know how it works
EDIT: Also, if you follow this guide it'll let you reconnect sooner if you for some reason disconnect randomly. Plus it'll let you connect as soon as it picks up signal too, not 5 minutes after you first pick it up!
I've had people report to me on Twitter that this DRASTICALLY improves things for them. @cynicaloptimist said he used to get 4G a half mile from is house, and now he can get it 150 feet away. It may not seem like a lot, but a half mile more coverage is a helluva lot more when a tower (4G towers may vary, CDMA/EvDo figures here) may cover 10-12 miles.
Great work man, i just wish i could use it. Damn you Sprint for not having 4G in Long Island New York yet! All the hype for this phone and its flagship feature, 4G when you buy it and you find out, you cant even use it... smh.
That works great! Also, has anyone found out why it keeps searching for 4G when we turn it off? ALL evos are affected. Do a Logcat after you turn 4g off and watch it go crazy every 2 seconds. I think this issue has been seriously overlooked.

Yeah I've noticed that but I have no idea what may be causing it. I'll look into it, but the gist of it is, it seems to be looking for the 4G daemon running on the device, but it's been shut down already. Could be wrong tho.

The acceptable range of values for the Evo is 4-10. The Evo just wont let me set it lower.
This was just what I was looking for, screwed up my epst.apk though so I hope I can just swap it back in with adb.
the "WiMAX_Entry_CINR(dB)" does not allow me to enter a value of 3. It says it's restricted values are between 4 - 10.
Edit: pwabbit also posted it. I guess I can confirm that he's not the only one unable to change that value.

Everything else will still have an effect & pick up at lower signal, you just still have to have a clear signal

Run logcat while inputing the code. You will likely see msgs that indicate the phone is trying to load a number of java classes and a reason for the failure. When I had this problem it was because I had a corrupted hosts file and the phone was failing to resolve th name localhost which is the name used to call the java classes needed to load the tool.

Awesome speeds. The network has just been live here in STL for about a month, started off never breaking 2.5Mbps. Now they've improved it quite a bit coverage wise & I get ~5mbps going 75MPH down I-55. I imagine it'd be better stationary.
And thats really weird. What ROM are you running? Are you using the stock HTC dialer? It should definitely be ##data# unless you're not on the HTC dialer. AAMOF it won't even let you enter the second one, as soon as you type the first it goes straight into EPST.
Lol, yeah the 4th # is silent.

Yeah crazy speeds, i took a dump on myself when i hit that marker. I also have a head set plugged in with it snipped to half a inch of wire. For some odd reason i broke the barrier. With it plugged in. I think the 4g antenna is a small one compaired to the usb one. Iam using damage control 3.2.3 with the toast fps kernel and stock dialer. Great battery with dc profile set to performance and underclocked to 806 using the juice control not setcpu. When u got dc set to performance means its allowing more threads in the cpu not making it set to a full load. Just sayin.

call sprint or cdma workshop or if you were to activate a phone on sprint.com then wait like 5 min activate the evo back the one time code or secondary code can be used as the msl pw. i have never seen anyone post that about activating the phone to get the msl. that to me would be the easiest

Looking over in the HERO forum someone has found out away to modify the phone.apk to include a roam only option. Wondering if this was possible for the evo as well. I tried using the apktool but the files do not match.
Heres the link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=745092
I'm sure it's possible. If I remember correctly when I was using CyanogenMod Nightlies, there was an option for this (it wasn't call roam only but im sure thats what it did).
Yeah this is where all of this started.... Now someone has ported it to the hero and I would really like to see if this is possible for the hero.

I know I would. I used to do it on my Pre while I was at work.. I work in radio and in the lower level of our building in production studios all day and my signal is very weak. Forcing the phone into roam helped me have better battery life, and a more stable phone if I got a call or something.
Roam only on the Evo would be very nice!

I am not running Fresh.... Wish I knew a little more about programing. I tried the apktool mentioned in the post but the rom I use has a different dialer setup than fresh's. I wonder if he would be willing to help.
I would love to have this option in a widget, shortcut, or some other method that makes it easy to toggle on and off. There were registry edits on my old HTC WinMo phones to enable this.
I have very good Sprint coverage most of the time but every once in a while I'm somewhere Verizon has better coverage. I've seen my phone hold onto Sprint with one or even no bars, and only switch to Verizon every once in a while and get full bars. This kills the battery and of course service.
Could someone post the original stock 2.2 phone.apk (unthemed). I think that the themeing on the dialer is what is causing my issues with rebuilding the .apk. This could cause issues with the htc framework used, just my .02. We should be able to port this over.
I modded the apk for Fresh 3.1.0.1, try it out and let me know if it works:

Unfortunately I keep getting FC's after moving this one over the old one. Rebooted the phone and still no luck. I feel like something is different with the framework or something. Could theme changes (Rosie) in this ROM be the issue? What did you do to rebuild the apk. I worked a few hrs after I moded it from your instructions trying to rebuild using APKmanger. I greatly appreciate your efforts. Trial and error, we'll get there with the EVO!!! Thanks!
I would love this app also

U dont get charged for roaming it just comes out of your anytime minutes if you do not have an unlimited plan. If u have unlimited then it costs nothing
Any one have any progress to report on this
One thing that may work: load CM6, set it to affiliated networks, then restore back to your previous ROM.
It may not work, but I know on my N1, if I would set it to WCDMA only to prevent the 3G dropping to EDGE, then that would stay sticky over flashes & wipes etc.
The settings are stored in the radio, so I think setting it to roam only should stick.

Sprint doesn't charge for domestic voice or data roaming. They reserve the right to cancel your account if you roam for more than half your minutes or a specific amount of data (I can't remember how much), so it's not the kind of thing you'd leave on all the time. But there are situations where it would be beneficial to force roaming for a short period of time.
i'd def be interested in this. im using fresh.

I apologize if I put it in the wrong forum, but I didn't think that editing the build.prop file or regulating 4G speeds that AT&T hasn't "given" us access to yet was a general question.
Aside from that, is it possible?

Your missing what the dev section is for.
If someone had a custom Build.prop they wanted to share, that is a Dev post. Asking a question about development is not.
no, from what I've been tinkering with in the test settings (accessed with *#0011#) and pressing menu, back, selecting "network control", then "hspa cat control", I'm able to get better speeds on CAT 10 than CAT 14, but other's speeds may vary. (I know I'm a heavy user that uses over 15 to 20 GB per month too, so it may just be going through a CAT that I'm not throttled on too.... )
But with all above, I agree that this should be in General....
the inspire has hsupa disabled foe the att version with a line in build.prop. hsupa has been disabled on all att phone cept the iphone and the infuse. tere have been different meathods to disable it but is irrelevant because the infuse has it enabled. ther may be other settings to change but not to get even better speeds but I don't think it will be in build.prop or yield the same results.

No, AT&T has. HSPA+ is still 3G, even though AT&T calls it 4g. They may re-brand all the user-facing stuff to say 4G, but the phone's technical information that you aren't supposed to see will refer to it by its technical term, 3G.
if its not LTE , its not 4g Sorry to burst your bubble. I truely miss Tmobile when it comes to data. I would get around 6megs down all the time on "3g". I dont even get 3 most times with at&t and the upload is such horrible ****.

LTE isn't 4G either, if you want to lump HSPA+ into ' it's not 4G' category. LTE currently offers nothing remotely close to the original ITU specs.

After using the phone for about a week I have decided to take it back and get an iPhone 4S. I upgraded from an iPhone 4 to the Skyrocket. Here are my rambling thoughts on Android and the phone:
1) Battery is terrible - doesn't last a full day with light use.
2) Screen is ok - but there is a really bad blue tint and the resolution isn't great.
3) I don't like how loose the OS feels - with iOS everything feels tighter and more integrated. I find myself searching all over these random menus everywhere in Android looking to do something simple.
4) LTE is great - but I don't have it in my house in Fort Worth and the internet is far worse on this phone at my desk at work than my iPhone was. It is also very hit or miss. You can get 50mb download and then drive half a mile and get 3mb download.
5) The phone doesn't work that great with the Sync system in my Ford truck.
6) SMS messages don't seem to come in as quick as my iPhone. Friends texts are showing up hours after they send them.
7) I don't like how you have to hit the side button to bring up the lock screen to unlock the phone.
8) Camera is crap compared to iPhone.
9) iOS does multi-tasking better - I find myself killing aps manually all the time.
10) No one click silence.
11) Hate how many click it takes to call someone - with iPhone I have my favorites set and I just click their name and it calls them - with this I have to click their name then click their phone number to call.
12) Visual voicemail not integrated into phone ap.
13) Bloatware is crap - and the roms seem really buggy.

Also - let's take away my issues with Android. The hardware issues are still enough to make me return the phone. The blue screen/terrible battery/very hit or miss LTE/"4g" signal (and little or no internet at my desk at work compared to solid Edge on iPhone)/SMS-MMS issues.
Good luck with that.. Iphone is crap... have fun with that sweet 3 inch screen.. I have NONE on the issues you spoke of... I get 15 hours or more out of my battery.

Also - let's take away my issues with Android. The hardware issues are still enough to make me return the phone. The blue screen/terrible battery/very hit or miss LTE/"4g" signal (and little or no internet at my desk at work compared to solid Edge on iPhone)/SMS-MMS issues.

It's even funnier how you try and compare the phone's internet capabilities. Here's the funny thing. iPhones are still 3G devices, so you'll be even slower.

I got 50MB once driving through Southlake. I am averaging about 20MB out and about.
Inside my house - no LTE - only 3 bars of 4G.
At my work - no LTE - no 4G - 2 bars of Edge (with iPhone I get 4 bars of Edge).
In my driveway - 3MB download on 1-2 bars LTE - this is in Fort Worth.
So the places I frequent - the LTE speeds are nonexistent.
I get consistant 40 -60 on lte. And 6-12 on h+ everywhere i go and i live in a country area

If I got that, I would probably not be returning the phone - but LTE just isn't ready in my area I guess. Maybe AT&T will get the Galaxy Nexus eventually.
Any short cut a iphone has, android can do. I hate having to click the app on the iphone when i have a clander widget bigger than ur phone lol. U can also mute from most lockscreens. I even have 4 shortcuts on mine. Also, if u dont like the screen, just get a different android with a different screen lol. I dont think u can say that with ios. I also love how ios user pretend u dont have a settings menu lol.

Bottom line is this thread is trolling. How do u expect people to react to a thread targeting the vary device whos forum u post it in, and to top it off trying to act like the fanboy phone is better. My advice is dont post these ideas when u have them keep them in your head. This thread has FAIL written all over it, and should be closed by a mod

1. It should EASILY last a day on light use, my Vivid does, and it has a smaller battery then the Skyrocket.
2. Get a replacement, probably just a fluke, and with SAMOLED+, you really don't notice pixels.
3. iOS is integrated with Apple, and Android is integrated with Google, and we know which company is better there.
4. AT&T hasn't switched all their towers to LTE yet, give them a little while. Also, I'd like to see you get 40-60 down on 3G.
5. Isn't the sync system designed for iOS? Yeah, that's probably why.
6. Must have bad signal, I receive texts faster on my Vivid then ANY phone I've seen so far.
7. Get used to it, Samsung doesn't want to become HTC.
8. The viewer on iOS is modified to make the images seem a LOT better then they actually are, compare them in the same light settings on the computer, and the skyrocket will COMPLETELY outshine your iPhail.
9. LOL? iOS doesn't have multi-tasking, it caches the app for about 2-3 minutes, then keeps just the data in the RAM. That's not true multi-tasking, true multi-tasking keeps the app running... in REAL TIME! Also, free RAM is wasted RAM.
10. Hold the volume down button.
11. Your on TW, find the contact, and slide to the right, it auto-calls.
12. Is it on iOS? Can't say anything about that, since I really have no clue.
13. L2Root, and this phone is picking up on development, I wonder how the ROM's are on the iP- Oh wait.... yeah.
It is the same story every time. If an iPhone user does not give android a fair shot and take time to learn and understand it they will gripe complain return....every single time
Android is not apple plain and simple. For those that prefer the simplicity of all that is "I" by all means flock that way. But to desperately pick apart a new network and a proven OS is just lame.
Now...if one has a true want to learn ask away. LTE is up and coming in DFW. In the last week I went from having no coverage indoors at home and work.to getting LTE at both. As for inconsistent speeds..from what I can tell distance from tower is the determining factor here. this is no different with 3g or for any other carried for that matter. I can litterally test every 10 seconds while driving hwy 75 and give you the vicinity of each tower along a 20 mile stretch based on speeds.
So yeah...you have a choice..make it but jeebus don't put the blame on good hardware, and a new network in place of what's comfortable/easy/simple for you. At least focus on the truth

is any one else having this issue...
When i connect phone to computer via usb cable, and select USB tethering it keeps asking me how i want to connect and i lose connection...
i.e I select USB tethering and it will give me internet connection, then after short period it will ask me again weather i want charge only/disk drive/tethering... etc.
It sounds like a cable issue but it does it with all 3 of my cables.......
Eventually after selecting tethering 5 or 6 times it remains on this setting...
Is it just my phone?

Could be an issue with tethering. Not sure as I don't have a tethering plan to be able to use it.

3- whats the 'flip animation' mentioned in one of the battery logo update zips?
i have got two zips for battery percentage one is called WCX_Stock %_battery_lg and the other is flip&bat%35
what is the difference? All i want is percentage in stock battery logo.

Use the radio that works best in your area. If you don't know which one that is, you will need to try some out to find out. Make sure you flash the matching ril with each radio.
The following link is a video showing flip animation. If you don't want it, don't flash the battery mod with it. Altough, you could also disable animations in settings, and it would be inactive.

As for the radio...
This morning I did a speed test in my hometown and got 4.7 Mb/3.5 Mb..
That's unusually quick for my area but is it safe to say I don't need to change anything? Typically id get 2 Mb/ 0.9 Mb..
Also my CBD has 4g which is just rolling out now... Will my phone utilise the 4 g network? If so how will I know other than speed test? As I've done speed test in the city and get similar to above results.

I'm from Australia and my.carrier is telstra. It's funny cos my home is not in the 4g coverage map.. I don't ususally get 8 mb but ill do another test and see what I get. From what I read our 4g uses a band width of 1800MHz....
Will this Rom enable my inspire to make the most of 4g capabilities?
How stable overclock to 1536 MHz? It might better be limited to ~ 1200 MHz? I fear for the processor in my device, suddenly it fry my ears
Any themes for this Rom that I can use

You can under clock with SYS. Tune / Set cpu, and adjust to your liking.
Only you will most likely have to adjust every time after boot.

I think you'll need to use the APN' configuration for your carrier's region. This Rom is setup pacifically for the U.S..
I hope this isn't a silly question...
Will the overclocking have any negative repercussions?
I have checked out the temperature using SetCPU and it usually is 75° even while charging.. I got it to go up to 82° once though while playing a graphics intense game... SO not too worried
Also noticed that it under-clocks while not in direct-use? Which makes me less worried!!
Worse-case I fry the CPU and go get a Vivid, right? HAHAHA
LOVE THE ROM!!!
True it is set high, but i use system tune pro to keep it lower. You will have to set it every time you reboot.

WCX ROM
Hi YA
I have downloaded the rom..
It runs great, but I was noticing when running Bench mark apps it does not report as a WCX... is that an oversite or whaa...
Other that that, MY HATS OFF TA YA!! Good Job!!
sloanster
How do I flash this rom
I downloaded this to my pc but it's a zip what do I do next?
Since I first got my HTC One S it has been bouncing between 3G and H data connections every 30 seconds, causing interruptions to streaming, web browsing, and being a real pain to try and use. Even after upgrading to the TmoUS 1.84 radio I was still getting these data bounces and connection drops. But I've finally found a fix.
Fire up Root Explorer file browser
Go to /system, mount filesystem read/write
Make a copy of /system/build.prop named build.prop.bak
Open the /system/build.prop file in Root Explorer's text editor
Find and change the lines to
Code:
ro.ril.fast.dormancy.rule=0
ro.ril.disable.power.collapse=1
Save and exit. Reboot the phone.
Now when I start actively using the data connection it'll go from 3G to H and stay there without immediately dropping back to 3G and causing a data interruption. If I'm not using data it'll eventually drop back to 3G to save battery.
Anyone else? Does this work?
I'll report back once I root later

For me, in Israel with a carrier which doesn't support the Fast-Dormancy feature, the change of those 2 lines did the trick!
Actually, the 2nd line was already there in my Build.Prop file but the 1st one was the saver!!!
does this waste data/battery?

As for the data, there is no change, or maybe there is but for better...

For me, the power collapse was already set and the fast dormancy rule seems to make it "stick" in 2g unless the 4g signal is really great...not exactly what I would like. One other thread had you put ro.ril.fast.dormancy.rule=#, but didn't explain what that # meant...anyone know?

as much as I know, in the file the # stand for comment start. Therefore, it should be the same as 0 in this case.
Yet, for me, it seems add if the 0 works better than the #.

fast dormacy switches between hspa and 3g, not 2g
It worked for me. Stays on H for the moste time but i can still see that the H switches the colors a lot (from Grey to ICS Blue), not sure what that means.

It means you are losing your connection to Google services. Open Gtalk when it is white and you will find your connections greyed out.
Final thought
While this build.prop change helped keep my phone from bouncing between 3G/H all the time I was still getting a lot of data stall (1000ms+ waits) between sending and receiving data.
Turns out T-Mobile didn't update my account with the new IMEI number of this phone. That was causing the data stalls. I contacted support and had them update the IMEI again and now data sends/receives with no delay.
