Rooting desire firmware 1.23 - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hi,
I updated my ROM to version 1.23.351 by using the RUU application
And the boot loader became version 8.0
I wanted to root the device but I read that rooting is only for version 1.21.x
So I decided to downgrade it by flashing it again with an older version 1.21
But I get an error saying something like "cannot upgrade because bootloader's current version is more resent" something in that meaning...
So I was wondering if I can just go ahead and use the same steps for rooting 1.23 that are wrtitten for version 1.21?
Thanks

Use unrevokedĀ³. No problem to root a Desire running bootloader 0.80.

helping installing ruu

I just updated OTA update to android 2.3.5 htc sense 3
software ver 2.15.707.2
however when i rebooted the actual system is the same as sense 2.5, there is no sense 3.0. software info says 3 & there is no more OTA updates available
I unlocked the bootloader from htcdev & installed clock work mod to root the phone
I am now trying to install RUU_Saga_S_HKCSL_CHT_2.15.832.5_Radio_20.4801.30.0822U_3822.10.08.04_M_release_229399_signed.exe
however I keep getting an error 131 & error 155
any ideas why i can not install any rom , the phone is rooted and boot loader unlocked.
Relock bootloader and no more errors

sorry should have mentioned, boot loader was relocked as per the htc guide
still getting the errors when running the ruu rom
seeing as though the phone software version is different to the rom im updating, and the phone has its boot loader unlocked & rooted. I should be able to install it right?
You have tryed misc_version? ? And then update with roo?

[Q] Restore Stock 2.3.5 in Desire s

I had 2.3.3 out of box and later got 2.3.5 upgrade OTA upgrade version 2.15.720.3. I rooted Hboot 2.00.0002 using htcdev.com and installed a custom rom. Now i need to get back HTC stock 2.3.5. I cannot find any RUU for it as iam from India and not able to install old RUU 1.47.720.1. I tried both tacoroot and zergRush but it didnot work.
My bootloader is
**Unlocked**
S-on
Hboot 2.00.002
Please advice.
Here's a list of prevalent RUUs at the moment. Pick on of your choice from here:
List of shipped Desire S ROMs
But before that, you may want to create a Gold Card as described HERE. That being to forestall/avert difficulties once you proceed. Good luck
Hi thanks for your reply.
I created the goldcard and tried to install the previous official RUU. It started well and got stuck showing verifying signature and showed updating signature.. and stopped. Showing ERROR 115.

After Revolutionary S-Off

Hi
I read this after having revolutionary s off
It is recommended that after unlocking your device with Revolutionary you install an ENG bootloader, so that you can easily upgrade and downgrade your bootloader if required in the future - not doing so can lead to difficulties
Where can i find an ENG bootloader with a guide please
the search function would be a good start, but try here http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho.../RECOVERY/ROOT/GUIDES/HBOOT/RADIOS/TWEAKS etc
sent from the thing I stab with my finger when I get two minutes
I suggest you to flash revolutionary 7.x Hboot, and here's why. The so called 'update' problem is just some Rom , especially official 2.3.5 ruu tries to update hboot but revolutionary automatically BYPASSED the official hboot flashing part, due to the fact that some Rom is only compatible or works better with official 2.x hboot, revolutionary 7.x Hboot is just an unlocked version of that. It's meant to be more "stable", as well as recognized by revolutionary 6.x hboot to update.

downloaded the RUU for my country but it gave me :
ERROR [191]: ROM IS NOT SUPPORTED
My current software version is : 1.20.720.1 ... android 2.3.3
It says it needs version 1.57.720.1 for HBOOT update.
I haven't got any OTA update ( I also checked manually) to update to 1.57 version.
I couldn't unlock bootloader because of this and I still don't have root. and custom roms ..

I tried by running ruu_chacha_htc_asia_wwe_1.57.707.2........ google it and you will find the RUU. run the RUU in administrator mode and you might have to try 2-3 times. Not remembering exactly how many times have to run it, but finally could upgrade and could generate "Unlock_code.bin"
I used customs ROMS and the best I found was SuperOSR chacha 2.5
Today only I have managed to downgrade to 1.20.720.1 and successfully restore the indian RUU. So now my Chacha is back to factory. Locked again.

No OTA updates

Hello. I have an unrooted and locked version of the US dev version. I currently am running 2.18.617.1 and software update gives no update to 2.18.617.21 available. How can I fix this?

I was having this problem as well. It ultimately led me to downgrade to MM firmware and use LineageOS rom. I am rooted, with S-Off, TWRP recovery, unlocked bootloader. I have even tried to RUU back to 1.57.617.20 (which removed root and TWRP) and updated OTA from 1.57.617.20 all the way up to 2.18.617.1 but after that, it would say that my phone is up to date. However, you can go to the RUU collection thread and download the latest RUU, or it's also available on the HTC website.
