Have not tried this yet, but i have been contemplating to try and fool the new HTC RUU (1.45.xxx.x) into not installing the new hboot by doing the following:
1- start the RUU exe and locate the associated ROM.zip
2- delete the hboot from ROM.zip
3- continue with the RUU installation
4- so the RUU will not find the hboot when completing the upgrade and will not upgrade the hboot
I am trying to do this since i like pure stock ROMs without modifications (but rooted ofcourse)
has anyone tried this yet ?????
The question is whether the RUU will complete the upgrade without updating the hboot or will simply give an error message and stop the upgrade process when it cannot find the hboot file ?????
I think HTC sign there ROM.zip with a signature different to any other so you can't do things like that.Seems like a pretty big flaw
May I ask why? Revolutionary does support 1.18 (opened the RUU, that's the version in there).
Besides, before applying the OTA update I restored to 1.35 using the official RUU and S-Off sticked. Can't see why it would not with a newer RUU, but either way 1.18 is supported by Revolutionary if you're not sure.

I unlocked my Desire S with Revolutionary, then upgraded HBOOT to ENG 2.00.0002. Until now ,after running all roms possible found on this great site, I had the pre-rooted deodexed stock 2.10.401.4
Today I downloaded the RUU_Saga_S_HTC_Europe_2.10.401.5, unpacked copied the PG88IMG.zip to my sdcard and begun update. The update was unsuccessful. Now my device says this:
*** LOCKED ***
*** Security warning ***
SAGA PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-2.00.0002
RADIO_3822.10.08.04_M
eMMC-boot
The phone is stuck is FASTBOOT, and selecting BOOTLOADER only loads again PG88IMG.zip, and of course after "Checking PG88IMG.zip" it errors with Main version is older! <Power> to REBOOT.
IS there anything that can be done? PLS HELP!

If you remove or rename the PG*.... file from the root of your SD card this should stop happening..
Then you should be able to enter recovery, where I'm hoping that you'll have an available Nandroid backup that you could restore to.
Problem is that choosing recovery from bootloader does nothing, just brings me back into fastboot. I think that recovery was wiped during the failed update process.
Also my device is S-on now so i cannot flash a new recovery in fastboot.
Now I'm afraid that I'm a little out of my depth here so won't offer any more advice.......but, you should be able to flash the recovery partition from fastboot...So hopefully all is not lost yet...
EDIT: Apology, only just read that you're S-ON and am not sure what to recommend.
You should look at my guides below. Both will tell and show you how to flash recoveries via fastboot.

Thanks, but before i wrote this question i did read all guides possible, including yours . Problem is I am stuck in fastboot, i cannot boot the phone, use adb or flash anything via fastboot as my device now is LOCKED and S-ON. Also i have no recovery not even stock one...
Smells more and more like a bricked Desire. Damn.

If you have read the guide, you should have known that before you can flash ANYTHING on fastboot, you have to be UNLOCKED first..
You should have tried to unlock it BEFORE flashing anything..
If these doesn't work, then you may be right on your last sentence..

Before attempting the RUU update with pg88img.zip i had ENG HBOOT with S-OFF, but during that update something went wrong. It managed to update to the official HBOOT 2.00.2002 S-ON, but then i got the "Main Version is older - Update Fail! error and i think I need to send it to HTC as I see no way out of this. What i do not understand is this "Main Version is older - Update Fail!" error! why did this happen in the first place as i was updating from pre-rooted deodexed stock 2.10.401.4 to 2.10.401.5.
Simmilar problem, still wifi not working
I have got simmilar problem on desire s, got revolutionary S-OFF with 0.98 then tryied RUU with sense, something went wrong.. now i have hboot 2.00.0002 radio 3822.10.08.04_M i opened the hboot via HTC development page, then i flashed the newest ROM by Adidas108: RUU_Saga_S_HTC_Europe_2.10.401.5_signed_prerooted SENSE 3.0(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1183684)
now the system is booting properly and i can use the phone again, but the wifi is not working, which sucks because there is newest radio and according adidas108 newest ROM. I havent found solution for this as my hboot is in S-ON now and i cant flash different version of radio. I think first i need to find how to make hboot 2.00.0002 into S-OFF. Anyone any idea?
UPDATE 1: now i managed to install the ROM build 1.28.401 prerooted by Adidas108, everything seems to be working again, even wifi is ok. It is strange that the old ROM is working with newest RADIO and the newest ROM not, does anyone has any reasonable explanation to this issue?
Can you please be more specific on how you dealt with your HBOOT. Did you somehow managed to get it S-OFF. I sure need to flash a new recovery and from there i am good, i can resurrect my phone.

I also need a solution how to make my phone s-off, and as revolutionary is only supporting hboot .98 it will not be easy. For now ill better stáy on my old ROM with sense 2.1

I unlocked my bootloader on htcdev. After that my old rom booted up normaly and everythig was back to normal. I then flashed in recovery RUU_Saga_S_HTC_Europe_2.10.401.5_signed_prerooted SENSE 3.0 by Adidas108 and it all works perfectly now since my radio was updated before the error with "Main version is older" in the official RUU_Saga_S_HTC_Europe_2.10.401.5. thanks guys for the help.. i read Skanob guides again and found out about htcdev.

BTW, from my experience it seems that you could update your radio to latest version if you try with the official RUU_Saga_S_HTC_Europe_2.10.401.5. It will probably error "Main version is older" and lock your bootloader, but you could unlock it on htcdev, and enter custom recovery after that and flash Adidas108's RUU. My wifi works perfectly with 20.4801.30.0822U_3822.10.08.04 radio.
Solution
So finnally my cell is working with sense 3.0. I downgraded hboot to 0.98.0000 thanx to Skanob(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1318919), then S-Off with revolutionary, flashed actual clockwork mod recovery, after the newest saga radio and as the last the newest ROM by Adidas108. Everything works fine, even with hboot 98.0002. End of Story
Is there an S-OFF available for HBOOT 1.20? Saw "locked" after flashing 1.20 and S-ONed phone. Finally unlocked using htcdev but nothing I found could help me downgrade HBOOT and do S-OFF again. Do not have SuperCID atm.

Yeah, I am still rooted and can get into recovery and flash ROMs. But I am having issues with signal and I cannot flash anything because 1.20 does not support fastboot commands. I would like to downgrade but cannot. I tried flashing the customized p85img.zip with my CID T-MOB010 and it would just return to menu w/o any messages.
Make sure it's p85img in the file name.
Don't INSERT .zip at the end. It should automatically be a .zip file.
The file is named correctly.
There is a thread here ima try and find it were you can revert back to hboot 1.17.0000

i m facinf d same problm wit my sensation with bootloader unlocked thro htc dev. i m unable 2 flash any radios. Even i m unable to flash any custom firmware also. I need ur help if u found any solution.
either downgrade your hboot to 1.17 or update to ics 3.24 which has hboot 1.27 (unlocked) and you will have advance fastboot commands
Same exact problem here, semi-bricked my phone before I went over to Htcdev.... attempting to flash a p85img for HBOOT 1.17 or any p85img does nothing but parse it. Searched all day today couldn't find a thing to help...Others have suggested just waiting until Revolution comes out with an Unlock for 1.20 but I'm determined to find a solution for us.

After i play with ROMs on my HTC Desire S i got problem, cant restore official ROM that was in device before flashing. My current state is S-On, HBOOT 2.00.0002, rooted Endymion_V3.5_base_release. And here is what i did:
1st i did, i unlocked HBOOT with HTCdev (remained S-On)
2nd installed ext4recovery
3rd using ext4recovery i installed Endymion ROM
4th after that i put boot.img via fastboot (because its HTCdev unlock with S-Off)
Now my question is how i can return to stock with official RUU. I tried many solutions which I found here but after all i got ERROR [140] (incompatibile HBOOT version). Can anyone provide me some suggestions or tips becaus i wont geave up just yet?

thus I can't use Revolutionary to S-OFF.
All I want to do is flash Fallout Evolution V4.4.0 but I'm still stuck at S-OFFing the phone.
What should I do ? Should I download another RUU for example RUU_Saga_HTC_Europe_1.28.401.1_Radio_20.28b.30.0805U_38.03.02.11_, flash that and then S-OFF and then flash the original RUU_Saga_S_HTC_ARA_2.14.415.3_Radio_20.4801.30.0822U_3822.10.08.0 again ?
Will that return the S-ON ?
Is there any other method? I'm completely lost now. Please any advice will be great.

what exactly you have done?
you should follow step 1 to 6 first.
than flash the RUU brand and region specific.
than you go to revolutionary.to and follow the steps.
what region and brand of phone you using?
Flash the lowest version RUU for your region

yes, I did that exactly. But when my HBOOT version is still 2.00.0002, it wasn't downgraded, so I concluded that the RUU file I downloaded comes with the HBOOT version 2.00.0002 not less.

then I searched on google for RUU_Saga_S_HTC_ARA with lower version but didn't find any.
It seems that there is only one version of RUU_Saga_S_HTC_ARA
Any ideas?
Do factory reset and try again.

RUU_Saga_HTC_ARA_1.47.415.1_Radio_20.28I.30.085AU_3805.06.02.03_M_release_199890_signed.exe is the same region as my phone but comes with different radio, 20.28I.30.085AU_3805.06.02.03_M compared to 20.4801.30.082 2U_3822.10.08.0
should I try to flash that ?
if the answer is yes, should I flash the OTA update OTA_Saga_S_HTC_ARA_2.14.415.3-1.47.415.1_release_226054u4qq2l6b7pxcvnwr.zip
after that or not ?
i guess u need to test each of your step and see if it work.
first try with only RUU_Saga_HTC_ARA_1.47.415.1_Radio_20.28I.30.085AU_ 3805.06.02.03_M_release_199890_signed.exe
than if it didn't work try again with the ota update.
The OTA will flash hboot 2.00, so what is the point. Repeat the steps you already did according to the guide you mention in the first post but with the older RUU this time. Then use Revolutionary, flash newer recovery and Fallout. Done
