Hello guys and thanks for looking in on my quest
I've had a look around but can find anything suitable so though I would aks your expert opinion.
I've had (still having probs) with SE's PC companion, its telling me there are updates for my X10i but I'm just going round in circles trying to get it up dated so I gave up. anyway, all I want to do is edit my contacts, also add and delete a few. I cant connect with the SE's online sync as I don't have that option on my phone, only option is to sync with google
Does anyone know of a PC app that will connect with my Xperia X10i and enable me to edit these fields ?
Tanks in advance for any help, recommendations or advice
do you have a blutooth adapter on your pc
No, I don't have blutooth on my pc
Have you tried accessing the contacts via your google account on the web??
That's what I did.
Sent from my x10 using XDA and swype.

I have 380 contacts in my gmail and only about 100 of them I want on my phone.
What happened was, when i went to copy my contacts to sim (in my old phone) only 230 of those were saved and from the letter P onwards the contacts with phone numbers only are no longer on my phone and not on my gmail contacts list. (only the email contacts are there)
I thought that I could easily access my contacts list on my phone and delete who I didn't want and add who I do. I still want to keep all my contacts on gmail tho.
Just set the google sync on your phone to sync "My Contacts" only and make those the contacts with phone numbers using the web interface of gmail.
The "All contacts" is for everything of course and you'd uncheck that sync to leave out the others.

So what do you see in "settings" - "Data Synchronisation"? It's a bit strange that you say...
"I cant connect with the SE's online sync as I don't have that option on my phone, only option is to sync with google" & "I cant find a google sync on my phone"
...have you had a good play around with your phone?

I found it eventually lol but the SE's sync instructions don't match my phone. It instructs me to select SE's sync and I cant, for the life of me, find that anywhere
1. From the Home screen, tap the applications bar.
2. Tap Settings > Data synchronisation > Select sync application
3. Select Sony Ericsson
I don't see number 3
To set up Sony Ericsson sync in your phone:
1. From the Home screen, tap the applications bar
2. Tap Sony Ericsson Sync > Get started
3. Log on with your Sony Ericsson account (same as on www.sonyericsson.com)
4. Tap Accept in the Authorise screen
5. Select which information you want to synchronise
6. Start the sync by tapping Finish
I don't see number 2
each time I start up the SE's PC companion it tells me there is an update for my phone but I've yet to manage to up date it as the companion keeps sending me round in circles. I tap the mount SD as instructed by the companion, then I get a slash screen instructing me to turn off phone, take out battery for 5 seconds, restart phone plugged into usb holding the back button ... then the splash screen on the pc instructing me to tap mount SD on my phone appears again .... and so on and so on grrrrr

I cannot find a way to sync my contacts onto my pc.
The box for ticking this to sync is not even there nor is the calender.
Does anyone know how to set this up?
re.
when you install activesync dont select guest partnership.
select standard partnership.
in that after a few steps you will see all the boxes select whatever items you want to activesync and it will be saved to your computer.
hope this help's you.
Thanks for your post.
I have tried that and the messege i get next to contacts is
''not installed'' is there an addtional patch to activesync i may be missing?
Have you installed OUTLOOK.
No because i am using Aol and have been told its not compatible. Would that effect it? ive noticed if i install it, it says i can connect to a server and the tic box for contacts appers, problem is it tries to connect to a server and not my pc.
I have installed active sync on my computer at work and gues what??
I can get it to sync my contacts!!
Yet I cannot get it to do this on my home computer???
I have now installed a new copy of windows due to a nasty virues.
Yes I still dont get the option to sync my contacts, calender etc.
Bummer!!
"Out of the box" Active Sync will only allow you to Sync with OutLook.
There may be 3rd party tools that allow you to Sync to other products.
AOL? Yeuch!! I've seen how AOL works on (and screws up) peoples' PCs.
hi there,
go a few problem with my cruise:
- active sync is coming back by itself, with conecting my phone or doing something particular on my phone.
i, the comm manager, the datacomm is coming back to "active" by itself, even if i set it on "unactive".
ghost ?
- i a m trying to read youtube videos by i cant. even with the flashvideobundle.cab i get an error message.
can smdy help me ?
The Datacomm in CommmManager is only a 'hang up' button.
ActiveSync is launched by system scheduler. A post can be found in this forum to explain how to disable it.
If you want to stop auto data communication but leave ActiveSync, you have to set the two fields in Scheduling tab of ActiveSync to "Manually".
If you can't/wan't modify it, you can use a software called NoData (from MoDaCo?) for toggling on/off datacomm.

To keep Active Sync from popping up at different times for no apparent reason:
1 open sktools notifications queue scroll down
2.Find <repllog> it will have several types listed.
3.Find the one that says<AppRunAfterTimeChange>
4.Highlight this prompt.
5.go actions Disable this.
The only time Activesync should start now is when you sync to your PC.

ty for the tips , but it didn't work:
i found the entry, highlight it, then go to actions, found an item "delete" , but the item is not deleted after doing that ! (even after reset)
Try this:
1. Start ActiveSync on your device.
2. Tap "Menu", then "Add Server Source"
3. Configure a server source with a fake IP address, id and password - you can enter anything you like, it doesn't matter
4. After that you will notice that "Menu -> Schedule..." item is no longer greyed out.
5. Change your schedule to manual under both fields.
6. You can now delete your fake server - your changes to the schedule will remain in effect. ActiveSync will no longer popup.
ActiveSync BOOSTER
Is there a way to boost up speed of Sync
Is there a any software or Cab file for it ?
Also want to know after we sync Phone
It keeps repeating to sync, is there a way to stop it ?
With removing the phone
Please Help

for youtube video problem, i think it's because the default video player is not TCMP but windows media, is that a possible way for my bug ?
Firstly, I don't use Outlook. I never sync my device with any computer, so I never needed it. All my email accounts were setup through the 'Setup Email' option under messaging.
Today, I was troubleshooting a co-worker's phone and, in my experimentation, setup Outlook on my device with her account settings. I didn't think twice about it and now I can't clear the setting from my device! When I go to messaging, Outlook no longer shows up (It just shows 'Messages', my work email, my gmail accounts and 'Setup E-mail'). When I go to 'Menu'->'Tools'->'Options...', Outlook shows up there, but I can't delete it. When I go into it, I can't clear the domain because it greys out 'Next.' On the next screen, I can't remove her username as that entire box is greyed out!
Please help! I don't want to do a hard reset!

I managed to find the solution after trying a new choice of keywords in the forum search box. The solution was:

Running 2.2 atm, wondering if its possible to completely disable the sync of calendar and contacts to gmail? One would think unticking auto-sync, and each and every of calendar, contacts and gmail under account and sync settings (background data is enabled) would be enough. Sadly, if you decide to poke around in calendar settings, more specifically under calendars where you can change what should be visible and synced (apparently you can turn off the visibility there, or both sync and the visibility, but not sync alone), it will still go ahead and sync. I thought I had put a permanent end to it after adding the following to block list in droidwall:
Calendar storage
Calendar sync adapter, google services framework contacts sync adapter
Contacts, com.android.providers.userdictionary, Contacts storage, com.android.providers.applications
Dialer, dialer storage, SIM toolkit
along with a bunch of other apps which I didnt see a need to require full internet connection, but the ones listed above are the only ones that seemed relevant for preventing the sync. Unfortunately, today I noticed that it had went ahead and synced a couple of new entries to the google calendar again. I really just dont see any point whatsoever in doing it since I NEVER use the calendar on my PC, and if I lose my phone then so be it. I rather at the very least have the option of keeping my personal data off the internet if I would like to.
Anyone have any thoughts or sollutions about this please? Would be greatly appreciated.
bump, anyone please?
another bump, anyone please?
go to settings > accounts & sync> and uncheck Auto-sync or disable each account appart
OR
I don't know about your ROM but on my CyanogenMod 7 there's a wiget called Power control... it allowes you to deactivat syncing directly
Thanks for your reply!

That doesnt seem to be definitive, I've disabled each and every of them as well as disabled auto-sync completely.

I'll be trying CM7 in the future for sure once a few more bugs have been ironed out, hopefully its not just a custom toggle for the standard sync settings.
In the mean time I dont suppose anyone else has any ideas?
The options in android do not seem to do anything.
As soon as you open "Calendar" -> "Your Calendar" a sync will start even if you have disabled syncing.
I already tried CM7. Is there a way to block or disable even this unwanted syncing?
Old thread, but there is a way.
From a terminal, run;
pm disable com.google.android.gsf
-- that will disable google services framework, and all syncing to google will cease.
Note that it will also kill market. Run it the same way, but with "enable" instead of "disable" to restore market, then disable again when finished.

There you Go...
The Chain is as Follows:
Android Assumes that you use automatic syncing, or you will turn it ON when prompted for
and then ..
Part 1
assuming Automatic Syncing
1. All Network Permission Kind Applications (in Android) Sync
2. Those applications which Give you options what to sync, only sync the selected Data
These are due to Services
Part 2
If you disable Automatic Syncing, nothing will be synced in Background, and now
Android assumes Manual Syncing
1. All applications will Sync Data as soon as you open them
-- This is due to Application Opening (Not Background Services)
2. If for Google Account, you have disabled all options, then only the application which you open will Sync
3. It is now not important what is selected in options
-- eg. if you have unchecked Gmail, but when you open Gmail, it will start sync service, and when you touch Refresh from options, It will Sync
Part 3
Finally... to sum up
1. For Applications to fetch you Data, Background Data has to be Enabled
2. For making it automatic, as soon as their is Connectivity, Auto Sync has to be Enabled
3. For Choosing what SHOULD NOT Sync Automatically (only), there are options to choose... you got me right
4. This is only for your account related apps, and other apps have to be disabled for auto sync/update/connect by exploring their settings
So as per your doubt, Disabling Auto Sync should Actually does not sync (Google)
If you open the Application, only then it Syncs
For Special Apps like Calendar which do not have options like Gmail to Refresh
clicking on the Sync settings jumps to Accounts and Settings, where as soon as you select the Tick box, syncing starts
You sync, and when done, uncheck it again
Hope it was useful...
EDIT:
For Apps like Market, there is no other Option but to disable Auto Update of all apps one by one
Nevertheless, Market will connect to Web Service and will notify you about Apps that have updates available
Hello,
I set up my Focus to sync with Google calender. When entering an item from a computer to google calender, it'll sync to my phone just fine. When entering an item from my phone, it will NOT sync to Google calender. It'll still show on my phone, but when logging online from a computer, it will not show anything.
Build - Nodo
Phone - Focus
I've tried the setting my google calender to accept all invitation, but nothing works. I also tried searching and came up with nothing. My Windows Live account is turned off also, and I make sure when entering items, it's going to my google calender. Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?
I am having no issues syncing my Google Calendar.
Make sure when you make a new appointment, that the Account box has your Google Account chosen.
Also, changes are not reflected immediately. Sometimes it can take up to an hour to sync your changes. Try forcing a sync through the options menu (tap and hold on the account you want to sync) and look to see if it updated.

THIS.
Seriously, it took me losing all of my Calendar data when I reset my phone one time, to figure out that I was missing that Account box...
Except it was on Android and I was leaving it on Device Only.
At least on WP7, the default box is your Live account so all your appointments should be on Live.
Regardless, the reason it isn't syncing is most likely due to the above.

I have been in contact with Google people and they are aware of the problem and working on it. SLOWLY!
