HD2 or Nexus One - General Topics

I have a choice between an HD2 or a Nexus one by trading someone for it. Which one should I get and why?

I'm gonna say nexus one even though the hd2 has android now by way of unnoficial means. I don't know if everything is fully working and will continue to work but windows mobile is pretty meh. Its always flustered t6he crap out of me albeit the hardware wasn't HD2 levels. But if you like windows or your one of those serious business types then HD2 for you.

I would really like the hd2 since Android is now possible on it. I just don't know how stable it is at the moment. Can anyone tell me what works on hd2 and what doesn't?

It's still a bit far from being fully compatible. Pretty much everything works but with certain conditions. For example, the Desire ROM IMO runs everything (even the camera), but it's not compatible with certain Windows Mobile Roms and even the factory ROM isn't fully compatible. The battery isn't lasting as long when running Android either. You're probably going to want to get a Class 6 Micro SD for it if you want some speed added to it too. IMO it's pretty damn close to being fully compatible and I feel glad I got the HD2 over the Nexus one after seeing how close it is to having Android ported to it. Still, don't go for it if THAT is the only reason you want it. Android will not be 100% done it. It'll still have moments where it could freeze and you have to manually reset it. For all we know, the developers could just get pissed and quit developing for it tomorrow so I suggest not depending on it being fully done.

I picked up Nexus three months ago...since I'm not that patient regarding firmware updating...Nexus being a real google phone relaly got me then, so after painfully deciding for something like, two weeks, i bought nexus...
if flashing newly cooked ROMS on a regular basis and feeling excited but whatever new things come out and eager to try them first, go nexus.

Leo all the way!
You have all the benefits of a mature stable business OS: WM, plus the chance to test young funny Android

I Agree with orb... I thought about selling my leo and getting nexus, but the leo seems to like me more. ;D

Leo!!
And I forgot to mention it´s great super screen!!

Nexus one ftw!!!

I'd get an HD2 since they don't make the Nexus anymore.

I am a HD2 owner, but if I had the chance to go back in the past, I would probably choose the Nexus One. However, I like both very much, but the "Google Experience" is much more attractive than win mobile 6.5.

I'm trading someone for a Nexus One if I choose to do so. I primarily want Android on my phone btw.

Bump, I'm leaning towards the hd2 at the moment

Keep leaning cause its the most bad ass phone I've ever used or seen. Its guarantee'd to be a show stopper at work and make all your iphoney coworkers slink off into a corner with their iapps to make themselves feel better.

Keep on Leo´s line!!
Now you can have Android on it

If you want to use Android, go for nexus. Yes you can have Android on HD2. I tried it on my TD2 also, but the battery life was horrible, and the phone gets really really hot, when used, and no call sounds at all.
Hopefully this will get better, but nobody can be sure if the port to android for WM devices will be fully functional in the future at all.

You will have a better android 2.2 FroYo experience on the Nexus.

They both have problems, nexus one is cursed with touch button problem (not sure in the new ones) anyway, the one I had was cursed with the problem. Hd2 i can not say, but will be receiving one soon. only problem is with the hd2 that People can't use windows Mobile and cry about " I want android" other than that its a good phone.

I have both.
Touchscreen on HD2 is kinda flaky at best even after hacking, but the HUGE screen is a big plus for reading e-books.
Nexus one has Trad Chinese interface out of the box, no custom ROM required. All you have to do is to get IME.
It's all about mobile OS preference. If you prefer Android 2.2, go for nexus one, but if you're T-Mobile US customer, wait for HTC Vanguard.

I bought an HD2 through upgrading my mobile contract last week and I returned it in six days for a Nexus one (bought from a private seller). Windows Mobile home screen looks nice but that's about it. The layout of OS is extremely confusing and takes a long while to get use to. The screen is very nice but wasnt enough to keep me from returning the phone. I also installed Android on the phone but it will still be a while to fix all the bugs and there are plenty and it just never feels right in terms of stability. Go with the nexus one. It is awesome. If the HD2 initially came with official android, HD2 all they way.

I'm torn between WM and Android devices

I figure this is the best place to ask for advice.
I fell in love with HTC/keyboard phones when I got an unlocked mda (i'm on att) a few years back. They keyboard and ruggedness of the phones (they've outlasted a few drops here and there) had won me over, especially after using an n95 briefly a few years ago. I got an 8525, and now I'm on a tilt (8925). I've always upgraded roms and liked trying new things, so I tried something new about a week ago.
I went the Android (ion) on sd card route, and loved it (but tried to go nand and it never worked correctly). My battery seems to last forever now (where a week ago, before I started using android, my battery was dying at around 6 pm), the speed of everything (the phone dialer seems to be running at light speed compared to winmo) and the touchscreen responds so much better. Even with the occasional freeze and crashes, I haven't gone back to winmo (except on the occasional restart and re-running haret)
It's time for a phone upgrade. I (briefly) had a tp2, but it still felt slow in winmo 6.5. And seeing how android isn't as well developed on it as it is on the kaiser, I'm looking at other options.
I'd like to keep att 3g, and have native android, AND a hardware keyboard. Does this exist? If i gave up a keyboard (though i don't really want to since I text a bit and surf the web a bit as well), are the newer touchscreens good/fast enough? I was looking at the Hero, and the ion/magic (which seem to be almost the same, though I like the price of the ion/magic), but maybe you guys can help me out? I have to go the Ebay route, seeing as how I'm stuck on att for another year (long story short, gave upgrade to family member, who has since screwed me on their end of the bargain) so I guess that's another thing to keep in mind. Help?
Depending on how much you want to spend will Ddepend on your options right now the only official android device for att with a keyboard is the backup nd I personally think it is horrible. You could spend the $529 and get an att Nexus One, which is only touch screen but is fast enough to handle input well. Plus with the many touchscreen keyboards out now it is pretty easy to transition to touchscreen. I just did this whole post using the swype keyboard and it is pretty fast and accurate. if you can hold off then there are gonna be many new handsets comming. Plus flashing new roms for android is highly addictive lol.
I just got the htc hd2 . the device is fantastic. the software blows donkey d....
In my opinion windows mobile 6.5 feels undeveloped . I know i probably havent figured it all out yet but its what i see so far.
So here I sit trying to make the best of this and hoping someone ports android over to the hd2.
thats my two cents.
If you want Android, then the Nexus is Awesome, Fast, Slim, Cool, etc. Try one out at a store to see if it fit's
i was almost ready to switch then i bought an lg expo. it is so sweet and mega fast.
Trust me, on a screen the size of 3.5+, you can type faster on a touchscreen than on a hardware keyboard
Telus Milestone is your best bet. And yes, you will have to buy it from ebay or some unofficial store.
I was a big winmo fan but they are dragging in the upgrade department.
6.5 was a minimal upgrade at best and 7 is limited on the multi-tasking front.
My son has a Motorola Droid and I really like the OS.
I'm headed for a Xperia X10 with a snapdragon processor but only after it comes to the US to support our 3G band.
That could be tomorrow or a year from now knowing SE's inability to get a device to market on time.
I'd really like to go with the nexus with it's seemingly ginormous screen (though everything has a ginormous screen compared to my tilt 1), but the $560 price tag (after taxes on the site) is quite a bit much to stomach.
I might look at the milestone, but I'm a little weary of motorola's quality, the diminutive size of the keyboard, and @ their price i'd rather stick to a touch screen only telus hero or magic.
Maybe I just need to win the lottery or knock over a bank...

I'd definitely go with the Nexus (If funds can afford), you think that it is too much now, but it is worth it when you get it (or so I've been told by... everyone).
I would sell my soul for a Nexus One, but I already sold it to Google in exchange for an extra 70mb in Gmail, should've waited
Looks like I'm getting either a HTC Desire or a X10 as wm & ms are starting to annoy me. Android just looks and feels so much better

I switched from longtime wm user to android and have not looked back. It is stable, fast, smooth, cool and fun Good luck
WM for me
I am quite happy with WM6.5.3 on my Rhodium, it does all my business and personal stuff just as I like
But if for some reason I did want to switch from WM definitely 100% sure I´ll look into Android as my first choice

Well, it's either that or iPhone OS/WebOS and we know which website doesn't support those
I've broken down and done it. Tally up one more order for a Google Nexus One with AT&T 3g bands. Now to wait impatiently until it comes in

From what I heard, AT&T's Backflip is ok. It's running Android as well as having a keyboard. The thing is that it's a Motorola. I believe this is Motorola's 2nd Android phone besides the Motorola Cliq (correct me if I'm wrong)

Then you heard wrong. Not only is the phone running the second worst layer of ui for Android (it runs MotoBlur, the worst is TouchWiz), it does not use Google Search, it can't use apps outside of the market, it's made by Motorola, and it has the weirdest design of a phone I've ever seen.
And I'm pretty sure it is Motorola's 3 or 4, not sure if the Devour came out before it (I know the Droid and Cliq did though).
Crackness, you sound exactly like me when it comes to looking for a phone. I am on AT&T so I want to keep that, I want speed and the hardware keyboard is a must for me, well I have a solution for you : Motorola Backflip
Yes the design is odd, but truthfully once you hold it in your hands, it actually does make sense. True the Backflip is on Android 1.5 because of the MotorBlur but they are coming out with an update soon. Otherwise the phone is amazing. Fast and keyboard is great. Trust me, it is definitely something you should look at.

I need a new smartphone, need help to find one.

Hey all!
Not long time ago i've bought myself a kaiser, not knowing the driver issues. This phone is wayyyy too slow for me and i am going to sell it. I want to get a new one, but i just read that htc still doesn't deliver the correct drivers as with the devices with 1gHz qualcomm snapdragon processors. My friend bought a HTC HD2 and its nice and crisp with 2d, all i've noticed it runs d3d apps very slow, just like my kaiser did. I also read that it has problems with opengl games stuttering and being slow. i did not understand, does the turbo3d fix the issue, or does it just make it slightly better?
So can anyone please offer me some phones to think about?
I would really like to get a winmo 6.5 phone like hd2 or hd mini, also i wouldn't mind android but no nokia's or iphones please.
What do you think about hd mini, hd2, touch pro2? and about wildfire, desire, hero and nexus one?
I want a fully working device, not like my underperforming kaiser, i want all drivers, everything.
THANKS!

Do you need a specific carrier?
I like my Captivate (Galaxy S phone for AT&T) but it has GPS issues, and AFAIK, all the Galaxy S phones do.

nope i do not, i want to get non-branded
bump...anyone?
I had a kaiser for 4 years, then moved to the EVO on launch day. Couldn't be happier, phone is snappy as all hell, and haven't run into missing driver issues at all - the only thing HTC dropped the ball on with the EVO is capping the frame rate at 30 fps (which causes that stuttering), but if you're rooted, you can load a custom kernel that breaks the cap. Although I'm very familiar with the drivers that were missing from the kaiser, I haven't heard about any missing drivers on the EVO - care to provide a link?
Any of the galaxy s line of phones are good too - if you're coming from a kaiser, you may like the epic for the slide-out keyboard, bit they're all pretty much the same. These also have the top of the line performance for the 3d graphics that you mentioned. The 3d graphics on the EVO are pretty good (you only run into issues with some of the more demanding 3d games), but this is really where the galaxy s phones shine.
Unless you're really tied to wm6.5, I would stay away from it - it will be completely obsolete in just a few months when version 7 comes out. Unlike previous versions of wm, 7 won't be backwards compatible, so pretty soon there won't be any compatible apps for any wm6.5 devices. I would also say that any slowness or lagging that you saw on the hd2 was more than likely caused by wm, and not the chip. Give Android a shot - you won't be sorry. And stay away from the hero too, its not going to be upgraded anymire either - in fact you may want to stay away from any device without a 1ghz chip.

well i don't really like the looks of evo, what about desire? it runs droid 2.1, has a 1gHz processor, what do you think about it? What about hd2? i read somewhere that it has a 100% working port of android (1.6 i think, and i guess it will get an update to 2.2) also has a 1 gHz processor.
Anyways, i know hd2 supports multitouch, but i couldn't find anywhere if the desire does.
Now about galaxy S... i have bad memories about my samsung phones, its the only phone manufacturer i cant stand.
i guess its either hd2 (because i think its the best of the current models with wm) and some android model like desire or nexus one that has 1gHz processor.
i like the desire im actually thinking about picking one up real soon.
I have a desire. It's alright but its not brilliant. I got it because the carrier didn't offer a hd2. Android is very, very, very irritating. If you think it's linux - beware, it has nothing to do with it. I flashed a dozen roms, radios, rooted it, partitioned sd card. It either kills the sdcard or gets a huge memory leak. And it is not working properly. It is just not a market grade mobile os. It's for kids, women and enthusiasts. On top of that the xda section which deals with the desire is not very friendly.
Htc is about productivity, they were never about 3d graphics.
I don't play games but I would suggest you get HD2 or desire. The other htc models you mentioned are much slower, or think about a samsung, I don't like them but I hear the graphics are better

It's a bit hard, if you are used to winmo, you'll sure be irritated by the desire. Otherwise htc gave android some life, but expect difficulties. If you want winmo, you should probably wait for a mo7 device. I'm sure they will port it to the hd2 but it's not the same as the original device. That's why I got the desire. I will wait for several months after the mo7 launch and if it is any good I'll go for it. The desire is ok but it's just not what android fans claim it to be
Get a Galaxy S or a Nexus One, both amaaaaaaaaaaazing phones. Samsung got it right with the Galaxy S
And get away from Windows Mobile. I come from a Touch Pro 2 and it is a terrible, laggy OS. Android 2.1+ is where it's at
An HD2 (with Android running) or an Evo could be another option. The Desire is a slower phone than all of the other phones I've mentioned here.

i can deal with android, i use linux on my pc so i don't think it will be a problem. Anyways, you think winmo7 will be ported to hd2? the thing is that it will probably locked down like that dam iphone, i want something that i can easily transfer music, videos and photos. Is it worth buying an hd2 and maybe use the port of android to it so i would still have winmo and android? i heard some builds are 100% compatible and working on hd2, like from nexus and desire, so maybe hd2 is a better option?
Though, i know that it has some weird problems with open gl. I know there is an app called turbo3d, can anyone tell me does it fix the problem completely or is it just something that makes it slightly better? if so, im getting an hd2. whaddayathink?
anyways i will round it up, i don't want a n1 phone, its either hd2 or desire becouse i like sense more than that stock bs that comes with n1 (i know there are ports of desire's rom to n1, but do they work just as good on the n1 as they do on the desire?).

Well I had a touch pro with the soft ported from diamond2/pro2/hd2, then I got a diamond2. It was twice as fast with the same software and they were both winmo6,5 and both the infamous msm7xxx chipset. If you have this in mind you will easily conclude that the android port on HD2 will be pretty much a joke.
The nexus one is a bad joke. I don't intend to discuss samsung at all. The google software which is on the desire is again a bad joke, for example the gmail app crashes on the stock rom. What makes the desire a nice phone is the htc software inside, which is borrowed from winmo.
Don't mistake android with linux. I used linux before win7 came out. From my perspective linux is you. You can make it do whatever the hell you want. It can look the way you want. Android has nothing to do with linux. I rooted mine and if you think you can edit xorg.conf (doesn't exist anyway) or make the trackpad do whatever you want or customise it in the way you did with kde/gnome and compiz, just forget about it. It is just something which borrowed the name linux.
I'm not sure about the mo7 port but there are some brilliant guys in the mo section therefore it is a possibility.
You will be able to transfer stuff easily on the desire. With the apps, you won't get many because there is not enough space (for 10+). Yeahh they will say about apps to sd but what, either you transfer half the app, or you partition the sdcard and then it gets corrupted in 2 days which is sad if you don't have backup.
At the end you might be slightly better off with the desire as we don't know what is going on with mo7 and by the time it arrives the hd2 will be obsolete. The desire is a recent model so it will be ok for a year I guess

Maybe i should wait til wm7 is released, then maybe htc will release a new android phone that probably will have better software than n1 or desire, or maybe i will even buy something with wm7. OR MAYBE I SHOULD JUST BUY A FREAKING ASUS P535 that i used to have, witch worked without problems, all the apps worked fine, 3d was a blessing from the god itself. Damn the stupid qualcomm. I am actually very afraid of buying again from HTC. I had such high hopes for the kaiser when i bought it and i am afraid of buying some piece of **** again so im researching all the dirt i can find on the best smartphones.
Thanks freakzone for your time on helping me, i really appreciate it.
edit: i actually thought about customization of android like ubuntu. just imagine a 3d desktop cube on a tiny screen like that
No cube here. The desire is quite fast, but I don't use 3d. Android is alright, I only installed several apps like file browser and satnav, it just is not the magic stuff everyone claims it to be. Why don't you go to a store and play with it for a while, thats what I do. If you like it get it

i guess its either hd2 or desire for me, will go and play with those later today and see witch is better for me. I am so nostalgic about the good old times 2 years ago, having a p535 from asus was the best thing ever, it did everything i wanted it to do, it was fast and very rarely i had to restart it. I think i am going to get the hd2, even though i would like a hardware joypad but i think i can live with touch I'm just too sad that everything these days looks like a bloody iphone: nokias, htc's,samsungs, everything... i just can't stand it! i miss the good old days of wm with a square profiled pda with good, strong hw buttons and wm5
i had a samsung moment until it bricked when i tried to root it and now i got an htc hero love it

I have no idea how you think Android isn't "market grade"
Especially with sense, it's the best thing out there. You can't think the nearly 8-year-old WinMo 6 is BETTER can you? The HD2 hardly has ANY games on it, Android has few. iPhone is the only really good mobile phone gaming platform, but I'm betting on Android catching up.
The best phone you can get is definitely a Nexus One. If not, get a Desire (or equivalent Incredible) or the Samsung Galaxy S.

The best phone you can get is definitely a Nexus One. If not, get a Desire (or equivalent Incredible) or the Samsung Galaxy S.

I agree with Android being market grade, but disagree with the general hate fir WinMo i've seen in this thread.WinMo is a dinosaur, but dinosaurs are still big and powerful creatures.
I personally don't like suggesting the N1 because of the problems i've heard of with the soft keys being hard to hit. And (not a very big deal) it only registers two points of contact iirc. My thing is if im going to pay money, i want the best, not something that is that limited.
I like the desire though. I wish more phones would have actual buttons. Between the Desire and the HD2, id get the Desire.
And i doubt the OP has issues with WinMo if he's been using it for years and us considering getting another WinMo phone.

Is the HD2 The best all around phone ever made?

I mean- it has the capabilities of 4G on TMO when released
dualboots android (perfectly stable and daily driver)
win mo 6.5 for buisness use/ more apps/ preference
top of the line specs... snapdragon, 4.3inch screen, dual led flash etc.
the only thing missing is an 8MP camera, but i would rather have a dualboot android than 3 more MPs.
This leads me to the question- is the HD2 the best all around phone out today?
Yes ....if it wasn't on t-mo

I bought one the day they debuted and it was a pile of crap I went through three of them and didn't get one that didn't freeze on boot at least every other time, or delete all my information every other day. So no I do not believe it is the best all around phone, I would say thats the nexus one personally
It not only let you boot Android and WM, coming soon will boot WP7 too!
So it will be the first and only device booting 3 OS and specs are same or even better than newer devices.
I say yes: Leo is one of the best HTC devices ever made!
Dont forget Ubuntu and now: MeeGo
that´s right thanks!
I believe it might be...I own an N1, G2, iphone 4, and soon to be Glacier and I use my HD2 the most...Android is now stable as ever...Gingerbread will be on it soon...this phone has been a monster since it dropped..!!

I love my HD2. Wouldn't trade it for any phone out right now. I still get questions about it.
Agreed (^_^)
I would agree too, which is why I'm finding it so difficult to upgrade and part with now.
The HTC HD7 or HTC Desire HD are my current next thoughts (hopefully this month too), but can't say I'm excited about either of them and hoping for something a little more special to come out by anyone really (of course leaning more towards HTC as I have done so for over 8 years now).
Easily my favorite phone ever which is non-Android.
I was actually thinking about picking an HD2 up for the hell of it to throw Android on since I'm getting sick of the size of my HTC Aria...but I may switch from AT&T to Spring to get an Evo or Evo2.
I'm one of those guys who won't use a phone without a physical keyboard. I can't get used to screen-typing, I just don't like the feel of it. If the HD2 had a Pro variant with a slide-out, I'd own it already. I recognize it's an awesome phone though, just not for me.

+1. If there was a pro-version THEN it would be THE best phone ever to-date. I consider myself a VERY heavy user and the ROM I have seems to work like a charm.
The only reason I have to take the battery out is to turn it off as the on/off button has been reprogrammed!
Sadly, switching to a Dell Venue in two weeks... oh for the keyboard.
(Orb, AFAIK - and I could be wrong! - WinPho7 requires hardware mods for it to work on a HD2 so don't expect it)

So you're going the W7P route? The Dell Venue looks good, but not please with the 3.5mm jack on top (like silly iPhone thingys) and the keyboard looks like old school keyboards being far to small to actually use. Hmm... decisions... decisions?!

The jack on top means that when you dock it (which I'm guessing you will be able to) into a 3rd party desktop cradle you will still be able to listen to music - unlike my HD2's docks!
Don't know how the keys will feel.... I can always send it back if they are bad
I had a Rhodium before and must say I´m a real keyboard device person but got tired of the slowness of Rhodium, then got Leo and I´m still missing a real kb but in terms of speed there is no comparative.

I moved to T-Mo almost two weeks ago over from VZW. I had T-Mo before but coverage was far less back then.
I picked up the HD2 and really liked it but missed Android. I had several failed attempts to get Android to run. I then decided to separate my work and personal line with two phones so I grabbed the G2.
Now I re-flashed my HD2 to a Mega Leo Rom, was an Energy ROM. Then I made a second attempt at Android on a fresh reformatted sd and put on Mdeejay EVo Sense rom.
I was amazed how slick Android boots on HD2. Of Course there has been some bumps with a Flaky Data connection and it will not install Angry Birds from the Market. I was drawn to the HD2 because I had a Droid X and the larger screen was the attraction.
In the end the HD2 is a great device with all the options and have a Snapdragon processor makes it available to compete with current phones.
Android or W7P?

That maybe, but I've never used mine for playing music through a dock, I usually make my own custom docks and prefer to have the ability to pick up my phone from out of my pocket, with it being the right way up already and the jack underneath for easy usage generally, especially whilst seated on the TfL for example.
However, I'd image this is a 50/50 point, where half would prefer the jack on the bottom and vice versa.
CPW are bugging me weekly to upgrade to anything fro free and with just a 12 month contract, but stuck in what to go for. I'm only going to keep the phone for 3-4 months too and probably give it to my other half to use (whose a heavy Outlook user) so thinking a W7P, but I know she'd prefer Android with the newer HTC sense. I'm also not impressed enough with the Desire HD, so wondering if I should be waiting.
I just bought a Sony LiveView to go with an Android 2.0+ and can't find out if it will work with a W7P at all (too early to ask I guess), so thinking to go with a Desire HD with the Sony LiveView until a newer handset comes out that is much better (probably in a couple of months) and give the above to my Mrs to use, maybe?
I think I read that Android 3.0 (Gingerbread) needs 1.5Ghz to run well and in general smartphones are still some months away from that official speed.
best non android and android phone ever ... its the BEST FONE EVAAA !!

After 3 phones, the statistical odds are is that you're the one with the manufacturing defect.

help me to decide to buy wp7 or stick with android

ok so i have been a faithful android fan since the first droid, then i got incredible on verizon, loved them both but hated battery life of inc, hated slow updates but i fixed that with cyanogen mod. so i hate the skins the manufacturers add to the phone cause it slows them down and makes them slower to get updates, i love android stock expierience, but verizon doesnt really offer a decent phone with that. the problems i have with android are the lack of polish and overall not the greatest user expierience and inconsistant behavior in the os lol. i changed to a iphone because a lack of good android phones and i like the consistant aproach apple took even tho i dont like apple or the iphone all that much. so ive been eyeing wp7 for a while. i like the ui, but verizon is just now getting its first wp7 phone the htc trophy, not the best phone, but is wp7 worth it? give me some advantages and stuff i would like, to help me decide if i should get it. also i just bought a dx2 and talk about a buggy and inconsistant phone, i cant handle the constant freezing and unsmoothness feeling of the overall os on the phone, so im gonna return it, just trying to decide to get a wp7 or a dif android phone. thanks fellas
Stick with android and get samsung galaxy s 2.
don't get a WP7 phone until the 2nd gen devices rolling out and mango update is available.
Well i would get the sgs2 but verizon doesnt have it lol. Verizon has no good android phones right now, i have the dx2 and it pretty much sucks haha

WP7 is IMO way way under developed. If you get one, you will probably miss your Android a ton. I suggest stick with Android for another year or so, maybe then you can try WP7 when it's worth trying.
Bravo, do u have a wp7 device??
Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk
Do they have a 30 day trial period like sprint? I had an android device and was going to get an EVO or Epic but decided to try the Arrive with WP7. I was thinking that I would probably give it back and stay with android, but I ended up keeping the Arrive and am very happy.
There are some features lacking with WP7 but its definitely a good system.
"the problems i have with android are the lack of polish and overall not the greatest user expierience and inconsistant behavior in the os lol"
Like you that is alot of what I felt about android.
I like tweaking and fooling around with just about every piece of electronics I get my hands on, but sometimes I just want things to work... like my phone...
Anyways, if you like using your phone like a computer then keep android if you want it to work like a phone with computing abilities then get WP7
Nrk112. Yea there is a 15 day trial period so i have over a week left, yea im to the point where i just want the phone to work and be smooth. That is the main thing i enjoyed about iphone but i just hate apple so i got rid of it haha. Is it fast and smooth always??
Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk
wp7 is one of the smothest OSes I have ever used (as smooth and consistent as any iProduct you will get). And it is very fast! You will always get stock experience on windows phone 7 and updates are very fast if u don't get a samsung phone (or an AT&T) however, updates are pushed by microsoft rather than the carriers or the OEMs. If u get a windows phone 7, u will not regret it!
The lack of multitasking isnt a big problem? It looks crazy smooth in videos ive seen, wish mango was out already and verizon would get a little better choice than the trophy hahah

With the Mango update, WP7 will be incredibly more attractive. It's already the smoothest, cleanest system available. It has excellent games, and Zune is superior. Android is a very nice system...depending on the brand you buy, of course...but is pales in comparison the heavy-hitting media capabilities of WP7. Android has great media capabilities but it can't compare to Zune and XBOX. WP7 is also much more reliable than Android, now that NoDo has arrived.
With all of the outstanding features to arrive with Mango, there just won't be any choice any longer. WP7 will be the only real player. I was always more fond of Bing voice nav, which I used in WinMo 6.5, than Google nav, and when Mango brings Bing voice nav to WP7, there will no longer be anything the other systems have over WP7. It will also have the world's best multitasking....or app switching for some people. Android has multitasking and app switching, but there really is no way to single out the apps to kill them easily. You can install auto killers and Android has a quick app switcher built in, but the best you can make Android won't compare to WP7's set up.
Hang on till Mango gets here and then do some testing.
I doubt that Verizon will be getting any new WP7 devices soon seeing that lack of attention that Verizon gives to WP. So if you need a phone now, get the Trophy and you'll get the Mango update.
If you are not in a rush though, you may hold out to see if Verizon is releasing any new Windows Phone. Perhaps hell will freeze over!
Instead of taking someone's else word or opinion about WP7, why don't you hit a store or a friend and go try one out for a few minutes... it will make a ton of a difference.
Oh no.... here we go again.
Closing this now before the inevitable happens.
Apologies to the op for what may seem to be an unfair closure of your thread but these ones never end well.
There are a good number of threads on this subject you can search for and you'll see what I mean.

Help me decide. Windows vs Android.

I've kinda gotten tired of Android. Not entirely, but as a Mobile OS. I feel I use a phone on Android 10x more than a phone on another OS. Seriously, my average screen on time is 8 hours at the least. I flash Roms, and softbreak my phone 10+ times a week. Tired would be the wrong, I just need an OS that has less. I've been growing fond of Windows Phone. I enjoy the OS, the simplistic look. There's not much you can really do with it, and it just works. All phones on 7.5 are updating to 7.8(Which is 8, but for lower end devices). Mostly all Windows phones that where on 7.0, got updated to 7.5. So what am I saying? All there devices are being updated. There's been on device that's been peaking my interest. The Nokia Lumia 900. By Black Jesus this is a beautiful phone, and I love Nokia. This phone is getting the 7.8 update. The Nokia 920 seems like an even better device. I love android, and I have a Kindle running AOKP Jellybean. But that's all I can see my Android love going as of now. Can anybody convince me otherwise?
I hate windows in fact I am a nokia fan eversince the old 3210. This phone is just my 2nd android device while I already own 32 nokia devices. And the reason I jump off nokia is also because of dumping maemo/meego OS over windows. But hey I'm not here to rant over windows In fact base on your perspective I am recommending you windows over android. Windows maybe annoying to me but I can't deny the fact that it is very stable compared to android and just suites your taste based on this thread. Development on that part is also active than you think. There's dual booting stuffs and custom ROMs also. So my say would be go ahead with windows and don't get pulled down by the open source support hype(android is open source and we can mod it all we want) which is not so true in real life as you can see in our situation with mt4gs I think. Since they might be open source but almost all components aren't.

Can you share why you don't like Windows Phone?
Also, I have carpel from holding my phone to much XO Thats sad :3
It's all about linux. I am a linux programmer/System Admin & I just feel attached to it. Now seeing android being the most closest OS to linux I can't help myself but to go with it. Like I mentioned this is just my 2nd android device. My previous device before android which is a nokia phablet(n900) runs pure linux but nokia decided to discontinue it due to windows. So basically I hated windows for
1 it replaced my favorite OS of choice and made me stay away from nokia.
2nd I like linux terminal over command prompt
3rd I like android live wallpaper.

Nice, I have an HTC Radar right now. It was my brothers, and I'm enjoying it. I'm running one of the Custom Roms for it. Not much a difference other than some Nokia features, and it's unlocked(rooted). It's fast, and the Keyboard isn't half bad for a touchscreen. I'm missing widgets tho' :T
I was also impressed with the 920. I had an old Nokia flip phone way back, and it never failed. Their build quality is superb.
I'm pretty sure some version of booting android will show up at some point for this device as well. Two of my friends have Windows Phones, and the OS seems even more fluid and visually appealing than Apple's
I'd say go for it.
I would too, but I made a promise to keep my device for another year. Plus, I'm in love with all the options for Android.
That new lumia looks impressive actually. There's a vid on youtube with a guy hammering in a nail with the touchscreen side and the phone still being good. On top of that, he pulled the 2x4 by the nail to show it was hammered in pretty good.
Honestly though, I love android as my personal user preference. Then again, I've never swayed a friend from an iphone either. If you decide to go with windows, I would personally think lumia. Sleek and sturdy. Its all about what you want in your phone.
Then again, I would do some research first. Comparing the iphone 4s/sgs3/lumia is what I would look at though. The best (so to speak) of each os currently.
Noooooo don't do it your gonna regret it

why not get a windows phone and see how you like it?
there are some amazing deals on unlocked devices.
I think it's fine to give yourself a rest from these things. There's so much going on in the android world that you can suffer update fatigue and information overload!
And if nothing else it means you'll have a working phone for the times when your android device is bricked. Just don't let your friends see you using it, otherwise they'll expect you to be their expert, and will also assume you've sold out!
How about getting an Android phone and using a windows phone 7 themed launcher on it? That way you get the best of both worlds.
Whenever you like, you switch from the simplistic view and go all out in terms of features and functionality by just a switch of launchers

I really look forward to getting either a Note 2 or the next Nexus.. Until then I am really butthurt with the DS. I hate sliders, hate that no HTC support. Hate HTC. Hate small screen. Hate crappy resolution. Hate the design of this phone.
Sorry for the rant.
I hope that you love Windows phone tho bud! I've used a girls WP7 and it was very very smooth, however you can't do much on it, very smooth!

What's there to decide?
Steve balmer is a royal ASSHOLE, and every single thing MS has ever produced has been a complete and unmatched piece of over priced SH1T.
Windows phone has been a nice change. I find my phone lasting around two days in average. This is with my RSS Feed, GMail, 4 hours of phone calls, and 1000 text. My phones so tiny for my hands tho' Xo The HTC Radar is supposed to get Windows 7.8. I called HTC, and they confirmed it would be getting the update. But not until the Nokia Lumia got it (Since they're Microsoft's partner). I have a GBC emulator which is the most important thing to me. They is a GBA one, but it can only play certain games. All together I'm happy. I got this phone from my Brother, and I didn't bother paying 150 for a replacement phone. I'm just going to wait for my upgrade, and get a One S (free for a couple months now). Then I'm going to sell it, and buy a Lumia 920 when it comes out. I'm happy, I'm not done with Android. It just feels the same to me. AOSP, Sense, TouchWiz, Blur. There all based off the same thing, and no matter what phone I have. I'm rocking an AOSP Rom. I just want a phone that works out the box, not one where I'm rooting to get battery percentage. One where I need to root in order to get my battery to last me a day. I'm tired of waking up and seeing the HTC One XXL + Limited Edition Ultra Max. A phone that is the International Version, but in America with a 2G of Ram. :T Oh Yeah, and it has a bigger battery. I just need a break from Android.

I dunno man. Honestly I feel like the DS community is too small, in part because the MT4GS didn't go global. As a result we don't quite have that support ROM wise. I mean we have the standards, Virtuous Infinity, CM9 and Jellybean but both aren't quite stable and I don't see the devs working on CM9 stability at all. XMC has done his job for Jellybean and it's a DD rom for me but not quite stable. IDK maybe it just bothers me we don't have an even close to stable MIUI or the other roms that all the big phone release's have support wise.
I think if you got the next Nexus, the S3, or the GNEX you'd see so much rom support! All in all, I'd go for a phone with more devs over Windows. My friend bought a Lumia 900 and he loved it for a while, but eventually he just couldn't stand the lack of apps. Sure it was smooth but in the end he went back to his G-Note.

My friend bought a Lumia 900 and he loved it for a while, but eventually he just couldn't stand the lack of apps. Sure it was smooth but in the end he went back to his G-Note.

The G-Note is the Ultimate Android device, especially on Jellybean. I forget how amazing that device is. I might need to rethink Windows Phone...but as of now. I want a 920
