Proxy SIM Cards? - Captivate General

Does anyone have any experience with those "proxy" SIM cards that sit in between the actual SIM card and the phone? Since it doesn't seem like any of us are going to be getting our AT&T sanctioned unlocks for another 10 months, these cards seemed to me like a possible alternative.
If anyone has one, I'd be interested in hearing if you can get it to work with your Captivate.

A different sim unlock question.

I have a T-Mobile sensation,S-off, xboarders CM7 rom... located in AZ. I do not have another sim card for another carrier, I obtained the unlock code from the terminal emulator method. I "THOUGHT" unlocking the sim card was enabling my current sim card/sensation for t-mobile, to work on other carriers.
However I obviously learned that the only way to enter the code was to insert a sim card from a different carrier, and enter the code. That being said, if I insert another sim card in my phone "like a friend with AT&T", will it affect his sim card at all? And when I put my sim card back in, will I be able to use different networks? Will it lock my sim card out of my phone or vise versa? I have been researching for a while now and I havent found too much defining what im looking for. Any one who can enlighten me would be appreciated!
all unlocking your phone does, is allows it to use different sim cards to run on different networks.
your available networks are controlled by your sim card, and any unlocking won't change that. No it won't effect your friend's att sim card, and not it won't hcange anything currently. However, if you were to get a different carrier that uses sim cards, then you could freely insert that sim card and then use their network with their sim card, provided you have the available frequencies supported (i.e. 3g/4g).
That makes sense. So people who have their phones sim unlocked usually sell the phone or have another sim card for a different network, which means they pay for two data plans? Well I feel like I wasted my time, I sure am glad I didnt pay to get my unlock code. On the bright side, the research I did find mentioned a higher resale value for the phone. However I dont see myself selling my sensation ANYTIME soon !
I appreciate the input, and thank you for your time sir!

Its a wasted of time when you are on a contract and do not planned to sell the phone, but if you travel inside or outside the country is a DAMN good advantage cus you just change or get a local SIM and you dont need to buy a new phone.. you see?
And also like you said "higher resale value for the phone"

Thunderbolt and MicroSIM cards

This hasn't been mentioned anywhere, so I am starting to think I am the first person to do this.
Anyway, the lack of keyboard on the 'bolt has been driving me nuts to the point that I jumped on the Startosphere last Thursday. (Great phone btw, may not be fastest on the block, but the keyboard is awesome and it is smooth out of the box)
When we activated the phone, I had to get a new SIM card... a MicroSIM in fact. All 4G verizon phones are going to use it from now on instead of the bigger ones that our phones came with.
Since the Stratosphere is locked down still and my 'bolt is full of Cyanogen goodness, I wanted to figure out a way to use both without needing new SIM cards for each swap. So, I found out that there are MicroSIM to SIM adapters on the interwebs, like this one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/160660811119
Some sites said that these MicroSIM cards are not compatible with the full-size SIM card phones. I wanted to come here and say that those sites are full of crap. Using the adapter linked above, I put that MicroSIM card in my 'bolt and it comes back to life. Everything works like it should, too.
Since every 4G LTE phone is going to this, if anyone upgrades and wants to go back to messin' with their 'bolt, they can using this adapter.
Hope someone else finds this useful.
How exactly did you get it to work? If you have the Stratosphere activated on your VZW account, how do you switch to the Thunderbolt?

i am wondering the same to, as when you switch phones it requires the whole 'activate / deactivate' b.s.
No it doesn't. Swap sim, and its done.
hmm.. figured it would be programmed specifically to that device... although i haven't gone from one 4g-lte based phone to another(not directly anyway). i suppose i will give it a try when i get a new phone.
welcome to the joys of SIM cards...however I do wonder about the PRL updating, before you could just dial *228 to get it, now will it be just OTAed to us?
228 doesn't work on 4G devices. PRL gets pushed.
Swap sim from one Thunderbolt to another:

HTC Shift x9500 Sim Card?

Being a 10 year verizon vet, I don't know what a sim card is. Well, I know what it is, i just don't know anything about it. I don't know hte types and all that.
Being that I just bought an x9500 shift, I'd like to get a sim card for it so I can access 3g on the go. Also, I might be interested in swapping it between my ps vita... which is att. Do they have data only sim cards such as for ipads and all that?

[Q] Skyrockt on Straigh Talk sim issue

New guy here.
I recently purchased an AT&T i727 with the plan to use the bring your own phone program with straight talk. Even with the sim card activated, the phone reads "No Sim Card. Emergency Calls Only". I've used the sim card in other phones, so I know it's functional. I've rooted the phone and installed different roms, but I still get the same error. I can't edit any of the APN or network settings because it tells me I need to have a sim card inserted to do so.
I feel like I'm not super clueless at things like this, but I've done everything I know how to do. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Take it easy on me guys.
Thanks in advance
Sound like the phone isn't unlocked. There is a thread here on how to unlock it for free. Look in the general section.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
Assuming the ST SIM is at&t SIM card , and it was working before , the problem might be somewhere around your phone , either SIM card slot , bad radio or blocked-from-network Skyrocket ... is it a craigslist phone ?
It is an AT&T compatible ST sim. I've already entered codes to unlock it and they all said the unlock was successful.
I actually purchased the phone on eBay. (I'm sure everyone will laugh upon reading that)
If the sim card works in other phones and doesn't work in your skyrocket but you have it in the correct way in the sim slot then it's gonna be your sim card slot. With ST your phone doesn't have to be unlocked for the sim card to work in it. Trust me on that I'm using my skyrocket on ST and have used about 10 different AT&T phones on ST and none of them were unlocked until I sold them. You'll need to get ahold of eBay and paypal (who you hopefully used) and try and get your money back. Otherwise you have a really expensive mp3 player.
Sorry for the bad luck but that's what it looks most like to me. I used to work for AT&T and that's the logical problem. I would say try and get a warranty for it but I doubt it still has a warranty and even if it did AT&T and Samsung wouldn't do anything about it because a problem with the sim card slot is considered physical damage. You'll just have to try and get your money back for the phone.
Just my advice and $.02

[Q] Incompatible AT&T SIM Card?

I bought the LTE version a couple months ago from Amazon. They were running a deal with "free" controller and cover with the purchase.
I've tried several times to activate the cellular connection. I've tried adding to my AT&T share plan. I've tried creating a new pre-paid. I've tried the included SIM, and a couple of other Mini-SIM cards I had in my office. I keep a stash of unused sim cards to use on our corporate phones.
I get an error:
We're sorry, but the SIM card you identified isn't compatible with your device. If the information you entered is correct, you must get a compatible SIM card before you activate your device (EAPS510003)
I've tried several SIM cards.
Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a fix?
