Hi guys,
As I understand on most modern android devices, the "max" wallpaper size is 960x800. That is, it is 2 screens wide, but pans a percentage of the width from side to side depending on how many home screens you have.
One thing I have been wondering for a while is if there is any way (of course preferably without root, though either way really) to allow for a full 480px wide image for every home screen you swipe through? On an evo, I suppose this would mean a 3360x800 image. A bit extreme, of course, but probably would make for some great customization effects. This functionality idea is basically stolen from the N900.
that would be cool since very screen on my phone has a different theme. tools/games/ media and whatnot
This will let you do just that....Havent tried it on the Evo but theres a comment on the Cyrket page saying it works

Hey,
I just ordered my Nexus One and will be selling my HTC Magic for this. I have a GPS app (Papago X5 for HK- Android) which I bought for my Magic. The developer's website states that the screen resolution for which the app was designed is 320x480.
Does anyone know what happens to 'HVGA-only' applications on the Nexus/Droid? Does the app stretch to fit the screen making it pixelated, stay in a corner of the screen (not fullscreen) or does it simply not launch?
Thanks!
EDIT: I contacted the manufacturer and they said it works on the Motorola Milestone (WVGA, Android 2.0) but were unsure of whether it worked on Android 2.1. Is it possible that 2.1 breaks some applications?
It depends a bit on how the developer has set up the app. Depending on how it's been built, it may not show up as available in the Market for devices with higher res screens. Or, even if it's been designed to look its best under 320x480, the app can indicate support for higher res screens either explicitly or by allowing for default scaling and re-sizing. Letting Android take care of re-sizing may not make optimal use of the screen, but it should be usable. From what I've seen, default re-sizing ususally means screen elements get spread out over the larger screen, rather than preserving the original layout in a 320x480 section of the 480x8xx screen.
I have an app that I designed for my G1 and thus makes best use of a 320x480 screen, but I've provisioned it to scale up to larger screens and down to smaller screens in a fairly nice way--though it needs work to really use the extra space to best advantage. Google hasn't put out a 2.1 SDK yet, though I believe an app that works with 2.0.1 should work fine with 2.1 on the N1.
Thanks. The GPS program is sold at stores (DVD) and not on the Android Market so it showing up isn't a problem.

Anyone?

I've had no problems with any apps on my nexus one. Usually if the app was designed for a smaller screen then it will either be pixelated a bit or only use up the part of the screen it needs. I've never heard of 2.1 breaking apps.
So, I went and found some pretty 1280x800 images that I wanted to try out as wallpapers for my new transformer. I loaded them onto the device, they show up in the gallery app fine. I am able to select these images and then choose set as wallpaper. However, when I do this, it brings up a cropping tool and wont let me select the whole image, and when I choose to set the cropped image as the wallpaper, the wallpaper only turns out to be a zoomed portion of part of the cropped selection.
Am I being dumb here and missing something? Is there a different resolution image that I need to find for the whole image to show as my wallpaper? This is my first venture into the world of Android, so I may just be missing something obvious.

The wall paper is panned when you go between sections of the desktop, that thread has more details and confusion on the topic.
just like the phones, the screen resolution is not the resolution of the wallpaper.
So for tablets, you need a 4:3 wallpaper same as the phones. 1920x1408 or higher for the best resolution. though 1600x1200 works pretty good as well.
the 1280x800 is what you'll see at any given time.

So Who else is having issues with wallpapers? After about 5 tries my wallpaper randomly decided to semi-work but the ends are still cropped but it's usable.
Can't find too much information on what the default 4.4 wallpaper crop thing does or how to use it (got mine from random luck).
For example the image i'm trying to use is 1920x1080
images6.alphacoders.com/419/419916.jpg
Managed to get it to center but it only shows this (from full left to right on my 3 pages/homescreens)
postimg.org/image/nl9r0o42l
So basically -
1. Anyway to resize or anything to show the full image on my nexus? (Have 3 homescreens/windows). I tried image2wallpaper but it only showed the same as above
2. How the hell does 4.4 kitkat's wallpaper settings work? Sometimes it would choose full left (So only cloud was shown), othertimes full right(So only sephiroth) and from random luck it centered with the edges cut like i said above.
Or is this simply just the limitation because of the devices size

Some images, based on their file type and size and how you crop it, will try and push itself behind your Google Now home page rather than only behind your custom home screens. The best way to probably do this and resize your image to the same size as the default wallpapers included with KitKat to give you a better understanding of where they need to be.
Test cropping - apply a default wallpaper and get used to the crop pattern and then try that with your re sized image to apply to your custom lock screens.
Just a thought.
Seems like what i'm looking for is the "proper" wallpaper size rather than the resolution
So I noticed that with the Nexus 5 image that's on the box (like this one http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/787373KitKatWallpaper03copie.jpg), except I don't think that's the actual one, if I zoom out from Google Photos, I see the red bar at the top. Android lets me set it as my wallpaper, but when I reboot, the view is zoomed in again. It seems Android resizes wallpapers on its own.
Proper wallpaper size is 2160 x 1920.

What is the resolution for the N5's viewable screen area? I want to make some custom wallpapers but I'm trying to find the best wallpaper resolution for them... the portrait size.
Thanks!
At the risk of being enabling, 1080x1920.
I'm not sure if the stock launcher lets you set static wallpapers though. If you're trying to fit it in that cross, you're going to have to make it bigger than 1080x1920. Sure you can find a template somewhere. Or use a different launcher.

Still have no N5, but I might tell you about another android device I have.
I made double width size wallpaper and it asked to trim it. So far, so good.
To make jpg I used imagemagic remotelly with something like:
convert -size 2160x1920 xc:"#color" background.jpg
If this method fails, you could always try again.
Best regards.
I just run a bunch of tests on my Nexus 5x (the screen size is the same as Nexus 5) using an image with a grid and I thought I should write down my findings here.
I have icons on two screens, so it is asymmetric: I have my main screen and a screen on the right, there is no screen on the left. The image has to be a little larger so that it scrolls nicely. The thing is that my phone shows _the middle_ of the image on the main screen. So the main screen is 1920×1080, when I scroll right 60 more pixels on the right become visible. Since there is nowhere to scroll left, 60 leftmost pixels of the image are never visible.
To sum up: one needs a 1920×1200 image (1200 = 60 + 1080 + 60). Leftmost 60 pixels are never visible.
Use your notch as a battery bar in this live wallpaper.
I need someone to test this app on the Essential Phone. So if you install the trial version on the phone, adjust the size and post a picture(not a screenshot), I will give away pro version codes for the first 3 people.

Looks pretty awful, since it's designed for wide notches and we only got a "drop" of a notch...
Width: 200
Height: 150
Used settings:
Width: 220
Height: 160
After applying size adjustments to app, nothing happens.. all I see is the wallpaper, and the app wants me to change 5he wallpaper as well?
This is a very creative app; appreciate the ongoing work for this ?
Please give me code too.
210x155
I tried your app with a bunch of different settings to try to get one that works well with this phone.
width 170
height 129
Seems to work best for me.
One issue I have with it is the angle of the slope.
Is there any way you could simply make the highlighting properly follow the curve of the notch for this phone, rather than spread out (thicker) at the top and around the bend (bottom). FYI: I could never see the color band below the notch (as shown in your video for other phones).
Also, there should be a way to visualize any changes you make rather than going pixel by pixel to try to get to the perfect setting for your phone. --> Hit apply. --> Hit back. --> Hit preview. --> Realizing you have to change it again and again. --> Hit back. --> Hit edit. Change #s. --> Repeat.
Simply too many steps.
My guess is that the average user takes 10-15 tries to get to the correct-ish numbers for their specific device.
Suggestion:
I know it's a lot of work with so many phones, but maybe a submission key / option so you can begin to collect preset ranges that people are using for the most common phones.
Question:
Is there any way to implement this so that it overlays when you are using another app. Right now, it only shows on the home screen (wallpaper only).
Because of this, I can't use muzei
If you can do this, I'll happily buy it.
------
Feel free to PM a code if these suggestions are useful.

You have to hit preview to see the changes.
Interesting app. I just previewed the trial. I need to play a bit with the sizing though. I'm a little disappointed this is a live wallpaper though. I'd like to use a different live wallpaper. Is there no way to use this as an overlay or something, even with root?
If you buy the app it let's you change the wallpaper

But I don't think you can use 2 LIVE wallpapers at the same time.

Yes, we cannot use 2 live wallpapers at the same time. And the wallpaper needs to be live otherwise it wont be able to update itself.
