[APP][TESTERS NEEDED] Notch Battery Bar - Live Wallpaper - Essential Phone Themes, Apps, and Mods

Use your notch as a battery bar in this live wallpaper.
I need someone to test this app on the Essential Phone. So if you install the trial version on the phone, adjust the size and post a picture(not a screenshot), I will give away pro version codes for the first 3 people.
Trial - Play store link
Paid - customizable - Play store link

Looks pretty awful, since it's designed for wide notches and we only got a "drop" of a notch...
Width: 200
Height: 150

Used settings:
Width: 220
Height: 160

After applying size adjustments to app, nothing happens.. all I see is the wallpaper, and the app wants me to change 5he wallpaper as well?
This is a very creative app; appreciate the ongoing work for this ?

Please give me code too.
210x155

I tried your app with a bunch of different settings to try to get one that works well with this phone.
width 170
height 129
Seems to work best for me.
One issue I have with it is the angle of the slope.
Is there any way you could simply make the highlighting properly follow the curve of the notch for this phone, rather than spread out (thicker) at the top and around the bend (bottom). FYI: I could never see the color band below the notch (as shown in your video for other phones).
Also, there should be a way to visualize any changes you make rather than going pixel by pixel to try to get to the perfect setting for your phone. --> Hit apply. --> Hit back. --> Hit preview. --> Realizing you have to change it again and again. --> Hit back. --> Hit edit. Change #s. --> Repeat.
Simply too many steps.
My guess is that the average user takes 10-15 tries to get to the correct-ish numbers for their specific device.
Suggestion:
I know it's a lot of work with so many phones, but maybe a submission key / option so you can begin to collect preset ranges that people are using for the most common phones.
Question:
Is there any way to implement this so that it overlays when you are using another app. Right now, it only shows on the home screen (wallpaper only).
Because of this, I can't use muzei
If you can do this, I'll happily buy it.
------
Feel free to PM a code if these suggestions are useful.

You have to hit preview to see the changes.

Interesting app. I just previewed the trial. I need to play a bit with the sizing though. I'm a little disappointed this is a live wallpaper though. I'd like to use a different live wallpaper. Is there no way to use this as an overlay or something, even with root?

If you buy the app it let's you change the wallpaper

But I don't think you can use 2 LIVE wallpapers at the same time.

Yes, we cannot use 2 live wallpapers at the same time. And the wallpaper needs to be live otherwise it wont be able to update itself.

[Live Wallpaper] Mario Live Wallpaper 0.94b [Update: appearance settings]

My second app!
This is a live wallpaper of Mario playing randomly generated levels. Every once in a while, a level ends and a new one begins. There are three themes for levels: outside, underground and castle. They appear in that order.
Have a look at wallpaper's settings! You might find something interesting there. Like the ability to change FPS, or to disable level background (making levels darker).
By default, this live wallpaper is in the playback mode. If you switch it to AI mode, it tends to waste a considerable amount of battery power because of the artificial intelligence, which is rather complex. The fact that the wallpaper is nice enough to be stared at for long periods of time, doesn't help that situation either.
By default, this wallpaper is set up to have a low priority. This is good, but not if your device is running a CPU intensive app. So - if the wallpaper is very slow on your device (something like 2 frames per second), consider looking at battery logs to find application(s) that waste a lot of CPU time.
And, at last, as all my work, this live wallpaper is donation supported too. So if you like it, consider buying be a cup of much needed cofee or a pizza.
See the video of how it looks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2g58o9w0bg4

Frequently asked questions - FAQ
I've downloaded and installed it. How do I set it up as a Live Wallpaper?
Follow this procedure:
go to your home screen
press the menu button on your device
select "Wallpaper"
select "Live Wallpapers" *
search and select for "Mario Live Wallpaper"
select "Settings" to see the settings or select "Set wallpaper" to activate it
(* if you don't see "Live Wallpapers" option in the "Select wallpaper from" menu then your device probably doesn't support Live Wallpapers)
What is the difference between "AI Mode" and "Playback Mode"?
Playback mode uses prerecorded plays, so Mario doesn't think but just "plays back" one of the 1000 or so levels from memory. AI mode makes Mario smart, and he will use artificial intelligence to complete the level. AI mode uses MUCH MORE BATTERY, and also might not work correctly on some older devices due to lack of memory and processing power.
I've turned "AI Mode" on and this wallpaper wastes a lot of battery. What can I do?
That's just how the Mario's artificial intelligence is, very demanding on the phone's resources. Turn the AI Mode off or if you absolutely want it, you can disable course background and decrease FPS to remedy the issue.
Why does this Live wallpaper require internet access?
It's to download and show ads. They appear in the Live wallpaper's settings.
I can't find this on the market. Where is it?
Your phone is probably unsupported. If you're sure that your phone supports live wallpapers, you can try manually installing with the APKs that are at the end of the post above.
I can't download the APK. My phone says "Cannot download. The content is not supported on this phone". What to do?
Don't download it with your phone! The default browser in Android doesn't support downloading APK files. Try this:
download AndroZip from the market. It's a file browser app
download the latest APK from the first page of this thread, do it with your PC
transfer the APK to the phone's SD card
on the phone, go to Settings -> Applications -> check "Unknown sources"
launch AndroZip, search for the APK on the sd card, and select it. You should be offered to install the live wallpaper
later when installed, go to home screen, press the menu key, select Wallpaper -> Live Wallpapers, search for Mario Live Wallpaper and select it
This is so cool! How about you theme it like this game? Or make another like this other game? Or maybe that game?
This is not likely going to happen because of copyright issues. The Mario Live Wallpaper is made from free and open-source material (check About in the settings) while any other game (even themes from Super Mario) are a no-go because the vast majority is proprietary and copyrighted.
This LWP is very cool. Thanks! How can I contribute?
In a number of ways:
by contacting me if you have any issues, not mentioned in this FAQ
by saying thanks
by buying me a cup of coffee or a pizza
OMG
this is awesome!
GREAT!
i really laughed when seeing it!
really really great ^^
do you know how many battery it takes?
whats happening when there is a fullscreen app launched? i assume than the wallpaper is stopped?
edit: maybe a random difficult level could be good, so that he sometimes uses 1 or sometimes 15 every level different difficulty? randomly maybe?
haha thats really cool!
It lags a little though for me when I flip between screens, especially one with a scrolable widget.
Thank you for share with us

On my device it usually shows 10%. Yes, of course, the wallpaper pauses when it's not visible.
Good suggestion! I'll consider it. Right now the difficulty is actually random between what ever you set and up to 3 higher. So if you set 4, the difficulty will be random from 4 to 7.

It's supposed to lag. This means that it gives priority to your home screen and widgets. It you don't like this behaviour, turn off low priority from the settings, but then everything will lag. As I said, Mario's AI is complex.
can't find in market even when scanning QR code.

Very sweet and surprisingly smooth with Launcher Pro.
I downloaded the .apk from the first post and I'm running it on cyan 5.0.8. For some reason Mario is off the right side of the screen, so I can't see him actually jumping over anything or doing anything. Is this wallpaper supposed to be used in landscape mode or is something wrong with my install?
awesome!
found on market on 2.1
The best!!!
simply brilliant !

The view should align with homescreens. If you're in the center homescreen, Mario should be at the center.
He might be shifted to the right in the live wallpaper preview mode, since that is the "zero" position.

[Live Wallpaper] 3D Active Blocks **updated 5/22/11 **.

This is my first android active opengl 3D wallpaper. Its tilt sensitive and when you touch the wallpaper it causes a ripple effect in the blocks. I have some options to remove the random z axis movement and two different block textures.
I’ve only tested it on my nexus one, and I’m looking for feedback(ideas) and how it runs on other active wallpaper enabled devices.
Thank for trying it out.

Why it asks permissions for Storage and Phone calls?

obvious question is... how's the batterly life since it uses the sensors?

I'm looking into why its wanting those permissions, because the only one I use is ACCESS_SURFACE_FLINGER for object selection screen buffer writing.
Also I'm working on custom texture selection, which gives you the abillity to use any picture for the textures.
As for battery life, my wallpaper stops running when its not in view so that should help battery life.
Version 3 updated, many new features and effects, see first post for details.
Added video preview see first post for link.
Looks very nice.
cool idea, but it needs higher quality images to start. maybe some additional settings to tweak the users experience?
Looks cool. going to give it a try.
How to remove this??????
for my dext it's tooooo heavy
can't find any way.. hmmm
edit.
es file xplorer can't find it but standard app remover yes... sorry (however nice app )
So I downloaded the app for my HTC Desire and sent it to me through mail. I installed the app and it said that it was installed. But I can't seem to find the app anywhere in my app list, anyone knows why?
I tried this out, it seems to be pretty cool, but on the Droid X it seems to tile images. Maybe it is set to work with a certain pixel size image and tiles them if they are over that size?
You can remove this when you go to settings --> Aplications --> Manage applications --> All
it should be in that list

Hehe.
Very cool. Woul love to pick an album, rather than just a single picture from my gallery. Perhaps picking a set number of pics would be ok, also.

I have never had a problem installing apps before, some reason with this i get an error saying that no app can be found to install it. Any ideas?
im a noob to all of this.. what steps need to be taken to get this onto your device? galexy s, vibrant to be exact
Its a cool live wallpaper its just makes my nexus choppy as hell, also I dont like the fact when you restart your phone and have a custom image the screen comes back on all white. Otherwise its pretty damn cool.
Very nice concept mate, works flawlessly on my SGS

WebLiveWallpaper: Set content (galleries/animations/sites/cams from the web or local files/folders) as Live Wallpaper, live widget or as picture frame.

Original first post:
I wrote my first live wallpaper today because I did not find something like it and thought it should not be too difficult to do. So here it is. I always wanted a real live wallpaper displaying something from the web instead of just a picture or offline animation. For me it is really useful because I can keep an eye on my favourite webcam over the day and decide to go there if the conditions stay or improve. A lot of other use cases should be possible ...
There is now also a picture frame app and a live widget included (also running on devices without live wallpaper support).

Noone else thinking this is a great idea?
This enables you to get an automated cycling flickr-Wallpaper, the National Geographic Pic of the Day automatically on your homescreen. Or the latest News-Picture, or your wallpapers from many image galleries. And of course webcams ... and so on. I think this freedom and possibilities is what makes Android so great!
New version with asynchronous loading, much improved website parsing. Still a lot to do (performance, widget, website redirects supported, better organisation of links and settings, ...) and so little time. But I really think this one has to appeal to some more people than just on a few sports-forums I read/post where people enjoy watching webcams!?!

this is awesome! thank you..
This seems a brilliant yet simple idea and seems to be well done. I will give this a try but its not realy for me as i dont have a data plan and only really use my wifi at home to connect so the updates on the pic would not be frequent enough.....maybe one day I will treat myself.
Thanks for your hard work
Def. bookmarked for later use. Very good idea.
New version 0.84 with optimizations and better gallery support
Loading is faster now (and you can enable a progress bar if you are curious/need to know).
I also added an option to dig into picture galleries (load the large version of the image which looks much better as a wallpaper on highres phones).
For the next update I am working on cycling the gallery pictures instead of using the most recent "best" one so there will be even more Live for more 'static' webpages.
New apk attached to first post!
Awesome. Thanks!
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Version 0.9
Has a lot of changes (hopefully good ones) with the loading and gallery stuff and a LOT of options to set everything fine.
For example WIFI exclusive updating has been added! Also the quick selections have presets now to explain useful settings for your sites ...
Still a lot to do. Next will be password protected webcam/server access.
0.9.1 fixes some things
no more default WIFI-only enabled (red screen if mobile at first start)
fixes of parameters for some quick selection items
no more crashes with wrong/incomplete URLs entered by hand
0.91 ... watch xdadevelopers (or other website) live on your homescreen background
See last screenshot attached to first post It's a hack (web snapshot) I may regret/have to replace by something else later and not fast. But should be ok for a lot of use cases.
And a lot of more serious updates like a sorted settings menu, access to standard password protected servers/cams, better gallery updating with long refresh times.
Edit: v0.91.1 can now be opened after install/in market for all those people not knowing what a wallpaper is!
Taking a look at this on my sgs!!
Dev, you should have more confidence in patience, it's a great idea ;-). I typically wait until things hit the RSS, so I'm sure you'll see a little spike since it just came up in the past 20 minutes.
Good luck! I do have a question, have you judged the battery life impact? I did see the custom refresh rate option, but still I am curious to see what impact it had on both your idle and active battery life stats if you update as often as a regular widget since it'll probably download more data.
Suggestions: Be able to set up a schedule
Preferably with different settings for different days. For instance, M-F have it set to use pic of the day with an update every 24 hours, then on weekends have it set up to show a web/weathercam every 15 mins.
Also, being able to set it, instead of every X seconds, being able to set it to update maybe 3x on M-F would help out in a few cases. Example, to see a traffic or weather cam just before going to/from work.
Good luck, I look forward to seeing what you do with it, I'll let you know my findings.

It would be real nice if you could get the picture to use the whole screen. Not sure if you are constrained by the site of course but I want to use this on my Archos 101 and it has a 1024X600 resolution so I get a lot of black bars.
Thank you for making this available.
Good idea.
How is on battery life though?
Very interested to see where this goes. Great idea IMHO. Subscribed.
Nice work.
Nice work. While trying this out, I ran across an issue. I accidentally the refresh time. If you enter nothing for the refresh time, it will force close (v0.91.2).

[App+Widget+LW] 1010ti.me

I'm finishing a 2 month polishing in my app suite (D'Clock Live / Gold / D'Watchmaker) and I'm in final pre release phase.
The app is an analog clock editor that you can use as a full screen clock, a Live Wallpaper or a Widget 2x2 or 4x4. The clock can show time, battery, wifi and GSM signal for now with much more to come.
Feel free to drop by the app site at http://1010ti.me and try it. I'm also attaching the last version.
Every feedback would be more than welcome as tests were made mainly in Samsung Galaxy S and ZTE Blade.
Looks very nice, I will definitely check it out!
Thanks karyney. Feel free to drop me an email with your thoughts and questions (pmduque on gmail)
Download and installs fast...some nice looking clocks! Will report any issues. Htc incredible.
HTCInc-redibly re-ENGINEERED
Try the editor ( menu on main app screen and choose editor). That's the fun part!
It works nice on my Nexus One on stock GRI40. I don´t like the link under the clock to the website; if you click on the clock, sometimes that launches the website.
Not a bad choice in an overloaded clock app's market.

1010ti.me just went live! Look for it in Android market!
I just want to leave some screenshots from the application. As it's a LiveWallpaper, a widget, and a full clock editor, it's difficult to have it explained in still pictures...

My first Clock with 1010ti.me
First to say: Very good work, now my favourite clock! Thanks!
Used D'Watchmaker before and just tried out the new 1010ti.me
Made my first clock with battery indicator, here's the upload. Maybe somebody likes it.
Works pretty good so fare. Some FCs, but seems to be fixed with last update.
Things for the Wishing Well:
Adjusting the angles and positions is a bit tricky with the sliders.
It is hard to get objects fit together, if you want to create something off the middle (e.g. the battery indicator in my clock).
I would like to have an alternative input method, were I can insert numbers of the angles and position literally with the keyboard.
It would be nice if the widget automatically fits its size to the given area (e.g. with ADW-Launcher you could change the size of the widget). I have seen this behaviour with other widgets, so it must be possible
Edit: Posted Clock on 1010ti.me
Hi Jan,
Thank you for the feedback. I really like your clock. Don't you want to post it on the site?
Regarding your wishing well, in the actual version you have three options while dealing with sliders:
- use the slider itself which is good for the first crude placement;
- use the up/down volume button, good for fine adjustment;
- long press the slider title: a popup will show asking for numeric input, which is great for copying values from element to element.
I know this is "hidden" info but now that the release is out, I'll have time to sort out a user guide.
Regarding the autofit, I'll look into it
Hi Pedro,
Thanks for the quick answer. (I normally sleep at that time )
I will tweak my clock, now I know how to do it accurate, then post it on your site.
But I noticed after charging, that the battery hand pointed to 0, should be 100.
Don't yet know, if it is my design issue...
Edit: Setting „Hand divisions“ to 101 does the trick.
Btw.: Phone is Motorola Defy.
For the battery you need to invert the initial and final angle (so that for ex. a 1/4 circle, the initial angle should be 90 and the final 0). That's because the higher the battery goes the closer to the top you want it.
Did that help?
I just set the “Hand divisions„ to 101. Because the direction was Ok, the hand points correctly to 10, 20, ... 90. Just at 100 it pointed to 0. Which would be OK with a full circle .
But now it works fine.
The Defy gives the battery level in 10% steps, so it stays long at 100.
The 1% value is there, but in a different file.
Here is the first independent review of 1010ti.me (http://android-walker.com/?p=5706).
It's in Japanese but it has a nice walkthrough video that gives a good overview about the app.
Always nice to see Portuguese devs out here, cheers mate!
Trying your app right now... So far so good!
Very nice, coincidentally I installed this just hours before it was posted on the XDA RSS feed.
I really like the live wallpaper idea with custom background.
JanHimpIII's clock looks really nice too.
Edit: the import feature works great (straight from the website)

I got a message in the middle of my LWP this morning saying 'grace period expired ,choose a free clock...'.
Thank you for all the comments!
Britose: the free version will display that message every 6 hours after activating one of the "non" free clocks (there are 6 free clocks stocked with the app). You just need to tap the clock and choose the "set as wallpaper" again.
The gold version does remove that restriction.

240 dpi Contacts(Dialer), Touchwiz Calculator and S Planner (Request)

Anyone can try to mod Contacts(Dialer), Touchwiz Calculator and S Planner and even Wall Paper changer to work with 240 dpi or even less dpi on Note?
I second this...
Im using 3rd party dialer, but i wish i can have those native apps in the lower density.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA App
I would love it !!!

i want this too, ive gone below 240 but 240 seems to be the sweetspot before the battery icon starts to blur. i also use 3rd party dialer i use angel dialer so i never see a problem. but it would be nice to have the native dialer work.
Does S Memo work for any of you when you use anything other than 320dpi? I get thick lines running across my notepad with anything other than 320.
edit: I just found the modded s-memo thread. Now all I need is the rest!
maybe a weird question, but why less dpi?
What changes are needed, just apps?

If you tell the phone that the screen has 240dpi instead of 320, then it starts drawing things smaller. For instance, 12pt fonts are used instead of 16pt, or the icons become 30x30 instead of 50x50.
As the phone uses the pixel density information to calculate how many pixels should a quarter-inch-wide icon should be, coding in a lower dpi value makes all the drawn elements smaller, giving you more room. This way, you can have smaller text and have more on our gargantuan screen.
Most apps deal with this change nicely, as there are devices out there that actually have 240dpi density. A number of apps (google market) need your pixel density to be one of the supported ones (180,240,320) and other arbitrary values break certain app updates. And some apps (mostly samsung-specific ones) have hard-coded scaling factors that break the app when you change your density setting.
All in all, decrease the density value => have everything rendered/drawn smaller => more screen real estate, the caveat being a small number of apps not supporting scaling at all.
awesome explanation, I 'hit the button' .
Thanks.
To be honest I am happy with the space and prefer the 'no hassle' approach .
So apps that do not support scaling would simply not be in fullscreen mode?

It would make sense for the unsupported apps to simply be smaller than fullscreen, and it certainly is the case with samsung's touchwiz dialer, where it sits close to the upper left and has unused room on the right and bottom (contact list, call log and favorites tabs of the phone app scale nicely though).
On the stock launcher (touchwiz, samsung, surprising?), the dock is still at the very bottom of the screen, but there is unused/unusable space between the dock and where your app icons sit. third-party launchers (I tried adw ex) have no problem dealing with scaling.
For the s-memo app, it gets funkier, as the background drawing part of the code seems to have some weird hard-coded scaling, and when you increase your density, the memo-drawing area both shrinks (like the dialer) and also has thick black horizontal lines on it. Looks like an aliasing effect.
So it depends on how the various bits and pieces of the UI elements are coded in each app. If they coded it with multiple densities and scales in mind, it works like a charm. If they ignored it, it depends on where the reference/anchor points of UI elements are, as things can all get scaled and shrunk towards the upper left, or some things may stay at the bottom while others shrink towards the top. If the coders dropped the ball completely (s-memo), things get very ugly.
Hope this thread won't be ignored... Looking forward to some kind fella who would probably get this working

Would be very, very nice!
up for this
ignored for a long time
KL7 and beyond dialer is especially dreadful at 240 dpi, since the call button is effectively hidden
I'm going to attempt to follow this tutorial myself:
