Hello guys.
I'm bringing this question to the forums since I've been trying to irc, and no success at all.
Here's the deal, but before that let me establish a background:
1- My phone is an HTC Dream
2- I'm running CyanogenMod 6.0-RC1 (was running 4.2 and 5.0.8).
3- I live in a country which is under the US embargo. Still...
I'm trying to access market and here's what I've done:
1- Used market-{access,enabler} to change my SIM provider
2- Setup my machine as the phone's gateway
3- Transparently filtered outgoing traffic for ports 80 and 443 to the tor network.
Still I'm having the same issue over and over, I don't get a forbidden message, I don't get another informative feedback, and the logs keep complaining on AuthFailureException, something InvalidToken related.
So I might be wondering is this is a bug, it's my location or the software I'm running, and if there's a solution available. I wonder if some of the most skilled of you can take a short live session with me, so we can spot it out. I'm not developer of Android, but a medium-to-advanced user, but still can't get inside the Market app. As a workaround i'm using the Slide market, but lacks a lot of applications and core components for Android, such as the Pico TTS files, and the like. Can you be helpful on this??? Hoping forward to your answers.

Hallo,
is there a software that can update like E-Mail, Weather, QuickGPS, RSS, Push Sites when WiFi is avaliable.
I use my phone with out a flat data service and it would be great updating all this when one is in an hotspot.
Thanks
That would be a really useful app, great idea.
Yeah, I would like an app like this as well, but for me it would just be to be able to update many items with the push of ONE button, not switching between apps and clicking 'update', not just when in a wifi hotspot area
hmmm..
it seems that nobody has an idea?!
I'm not into programming at all, but would it not be possible to hav something like a batch file you use in Windows where different things are done one after the other like you can do in Linux in the bash (wow I think my english is a little of here, I hope you get what I mean)...
I would hazard a guess at having all of these applications running in the background and poll for updates every 10 mins or so, disabling mobile data with something like MoDaCo NoData, and having your wireless constantly enabled would work.
Expect battery life to be around 7 hours, though
To code a program which polls for wifi + internet connectivity, and updates several different (closed source) applications on your device would be a nightmare. It would involve breaking the procedures they have in place to update themselves to accept updates from the new source, or directly writing to whatever temporary storage those applications use (which may be locked by those very applications while they run).
In short, not gonna happen :-\
Greetings all... new to the forum, but I've already gotten a ton of good info here, so I'm hoping someone can offer a theory on the problem I'm having.
My Captivate is mostly stock (2.1). I had no real trouble getting through rooting the device, and I've got openvpn connecting to my network over 3g with no issues.
The problem is that I can't actually access the webserver on my network that the setup is intended for. The goal is to pull up a web app from the phone without having to open my (sloppy, insecure) webserver to the net. The captivate pulls a valid ip, and I can actually ping the server in question, but when I attempt to open the page in the browser it times out.
I've noticed that openvpn shows an up/down speed after it connects, and on one occasion I noticed it was fairly fast (don't recall the numbers, I just glanced at it). Recently I've been paying more attention to it and it's talking like .02kb/s, which would probably be too slow to be useful.
So aside from all the people trying to make openvpn work, is anyone actually *using* it once they get it working? It seems like the browser is seeing the alternate route, because my history at least shows the page name, but I get "the server failed to communicate" in a dialog, and web page not available in the browser.
Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.
I use VPN over 3G to RDP to servers so I'm sure speed isn't the whole issue. Unless you set the DNS servers using ADB Shell or a Terminal from within the phone, any non-outward facing URL will not be resolved. If you know the ip address of that host, plug it in the address in place of the name and let me know if that works. Also depending on the what the web app uses, the regular browser may or may not load it. If it's Share Point based at all, use Fennec as the browser.
Basically this idea came to me when I picked up a B&N Nook Color and I wondered if it would be possible to use the services available to my Cell phone on the Nook in some manner. My concept was to have an application that would "piggy-back" the available services on the phone to the Nook. Now I don't personally have any programming skills, but if any developers would be interested in picking up this idea; I would be more than happy to help out in whatever ways I can.
The first and easiest to do was to set my cell phone as a wifi hotspot to provide internet to the Nook. Since cyanogen mod has this built in, it was fairly painless to set up, and worked perfectly.
Next I was wondering about sharing the GPS service to my Nook. This would allow me to run google maps on a huge display while driving. After a little looking I found a few apps like Tether GPS that make this possible by using a client/server app on each device. http://www.appbrain.com/app/tethergps-lite/com.comptonsoft.tgps_lite
Finally I wanted to get some of my communication services onto the Nook. Mainly the SMS service since I don't really see a use for having my voice services carried to the nook, but the option to wouldn't hurt I suppose. For this I know there are several options available for doing this with a pc, but have yet to find one for another android device.
Not sure if there are any other services that we could make use of in this manner, but would love to hear some more ideas. Ideally I would like to see a single application that provides the ability to easily toggle each of these features on or off.
Also found an interesting link that was made in regards to gps, not sure if any of this could spark an idea on solving the other issues I posted above.

Hello,
I recently took the plunge and rooted my asus transformer to the revolution hd ROM. I did this because I learned I couldn't access all of the android market in Korea. I installed orbot, and then hoped it would just work. It is a no go. There are two people, according to my searching, that have gotten orbot to work on the transformer:
valsacar
rezaaz
They have left little information as to how they got orbot to work. But their posts do give me hope.
This is my last hope. If I can't get it to work, I am selling my transformer.
How do I get orbot to work? Or, how do I get full market access?

You have the same habit of leaving very little info for us to help you. Orbit works perfectly for me. You need to tell us what's wrong and why you know it doesn't work. Every little detail helps.
Ah, it must be contagious. (^_^)
I started the orbot app, did the wizard, gave it root, selected both the android market and tegra zone apps to be used in Tor, wrote down the proxy settings(not sure where or how to use them), did not install gibberbot or orweb, and pressed the power icon to start. It turns yellow, with the droids arms out like a 'T', and goes into a loading/waiting loop
I tried fiddling with bridges and exit nodes, but I don't know enough about tor.
Is that enough info?
Looks like a proxy problem. Try a different proxy server.
I opened up orbot, but there doesn't seem to be a 'proxy' setting. Do I change it somewhere else? Or get a proxy app?
Update
I rooted my tablet to the newest Prime and Revolver. Orbot turned green only on Revolver. Orbot turns green and says it is working. I checked by adding the default browser to route through tor, and it was a success.
New problem:I get a message stating 'rejecting requet for anonymous connection to private address [scrubbed] on a Transpor or NATDPort. Possible loop in you NAT rules?'
I have three apps selected for tor:
Market
Market Feedback Agent
Market Updater
I wanted to make sure all of the market was through tor so that I can access it in America. I am going to keep digging, but if anyone has had success, please enlighten the world with your knowledge. (^_^)
@MarcAtony I'm getting the same error on my old MyTouch 3G (esspresso slide) I reolize this is a bit of a thread revival but I was encuraged by another forum to try out running a "Relay" for Bitcoins, so I thought I'd give it a shot. Here's some of the steps I've preformed;
Loged into wireless router and portforwareded 443 to the static IP of my Android. Also port forwareded 9001, the default port for acting as a relay.
On the Orbot app I selected the option "Reachable Address" under settings and left the Reachable ports at thier default values "*:80,*:443"
I also sellected the option "Relaying" and left the port at it's default value "9001"
For the chance of getting paid for running a relay for TOR I edited the "Torrc Custom Config" option and input "ContactInfo [email protected] - <BTC_Address>" on one line just edit the "<BTC_Address>" to something like 1jjXnf... and remove the <> simbles. Only use the example email or one that has been set up through TOR if ya care about anonimimity... also make a new BTC address for this if your the perinoid type.
Then I downloaded the DroidWall app as suggested by the following link
https://blog.torproject.org/blog/mission-impossible-hardening-android-security-and-privacy
~ and set up firewall rules to allow things through on the Android side.
Now working on the "Hidden Service Hosting" option with apps simular as the follwing two
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alfanla.android.pws
https://github.com/bodeme/androidwebserver
Because even though I'm not coonfortable running a Wiki-leaks mirror as suggested bellow
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/create-anonymous-wikileaks-mirror-on-your-android-device/
~ it looks like nearly any type of content can be served off Android through an ~.onion domain.
Any help on the NAT errors would be appresheated but I'm thinking that it's just a firewall issue. Also let me know if you're still around and having issues; this stuff be tricky.
Most phones today have wifi direct. However, very few of these can actually use it to share files the way samsungs can. Of course, there are many 3rd party apps that can do it, and some quite well, but the thing they all have in common is that the app must be installed on both devices. (Unless using a web address on a browser on the receiving device, which is not so user friendly as apps like superbeam, or the samsung wifi direct share.)
Wouldn't it be great if all android devices came with a preinstalled app to do send large files back and forth, eith share options in all apps, like bluetooth share, only for wifi direct? Because lets face it, while blutooth is certainly useful, it's just too slow for anything more than a few picture or a short video.
So why not make a feature request in code.google.com, asking for a wifi direct share app to to be preinstalled in all devices, (in new android versions, that is, just to add another app to the gapps we already have,) or even just to be able to install from play store, just like google camera, the only difference being that all devices will be able to receive the file the way all phones can receive an incoming bluetooth file..
If this isea interests you, Post here, and if I see that thete is enough interest to actually make this worthwhile, I will post a new topic there and we can try getting as many people as possible to vote for it there, and maybe we might get our wish and the next version of android will include this! I can't believe it would be very difficult for google to implement.
So, does anyone else think this is a good idea? If you do then tell me and lets see if we can actually get built in wifi direct sharing on android!
