Is there a way to use the captivate when plugged into my PC charging?

This is very disappointing. I can't seem to use my Captivate when plugged into USB either.

Same here. Earlier I had a weird problem like that though. Don't know what fixed it.
Just figured it out. If you have usb debugging on you can use the phone while plugged in. If you have usb debugging off as it is when you buy it, you can't use the phone while plugged in.
Go here and make sure "usb debugging" has a green checkmark, then you can use the phone while plugged in.
Settings->Applications->Development and check "USB debugging"
Thanks,
bja
Same here, still learning about this thing

It has to be reactive when debugging so that developers can test their applications if anyone is wondering. Strange that you cant use it otherwise.
I got mine working without USB Debugging. I don't know what fixed it.
It started working after I installed Launcher Pro, installed the computer drivers... etc.
I had the same problem, go to Settings>>Applications>>USB Settings and change it to Mass storage, that let me use the phone while plugged in. Have to mount the SD cards when you plug it in (notification when you plug it in) in order to browse them on the computer.

Thinks its always connected, doesnt even display Samsung when i try to reboot it, just hangs. Displays batt logo a split second. Than goes unresponsive. Can enter download mode while just 3 button pressing, not connected. Can re flash to stock everytime though.

Had the same issue a while back, messing with a USB cable while plugged into it got it to go away occasionally then I think I cleaned it, its been so long I can't remember how I fixed it or if I did anything at all, its the USB port. It may be damaged, it may have some trash in there. Try blowing it out. If not send it to Samsung or see if att will replace it.
K, ya i figured that was the case with the usb port, but what about the other software oddities?
ive since went bone stock, and factory reset. Hasnt acted wierd since (crosses fingers)

Oddities like what? Download mode and the charge screen would be normal behavior when a device is plugged in to the port. Add long as there is a problem with the port these are possible symptoms.
You are correct, i apologize. I understand whats going on with my phone now. Definietly the charger port. Which it explai.s why it is acting normal right now. Because im not restarting it right now.

Last weekend, I noticed that my phone e was no longer logging changes in charge state with battery indicator pro. I thought the program was the problem and removed it. The problem remained, so I decided to see how far it went. Even with the phone off, plugging it in won't make the white battery appear on the screen, even though the phone IS charging.
Without performing a factory reset just as a test, can anyone think of any reasons this might happen?

Sounds like a bad USB port. Is it recognized by a pc? Can you transfer data?

A-ha! You are correct! I hadn't considered that branch of my troubleshotting flowchart.
My phone doesn't recognize that it has been plugged in to a PC.
Thanks for the help!
I will research remedies for this problem.
I can't get my computer to detect my phone very well, running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit when I plug it in nothing at all happens on the computer. When I go into device manager it doesn't see anything no matter what port I choose. Installed two different versions of LG drivers, tried a handful of USB cables, tried having debugging off/on, doing it with stock, cm7, phoenix ICS rom with PTP/MTP chosen and I'm out of ideas. I've searched multiple times for other solutions only finding what I've tried.
On a rare occasion it will see my phone but once I unplug it it quits again and have to start over until I get lucky again

Are you using only one port or multiple?
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Tried all of them, reinstalling the drivers and rebooting my computer every time, computer sees my friends Epic 4G instantly along with every other USB device
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-4
that's a good process, but that doesn't answer my question. Lol.
How did that not answer your question? Unless I'm not sure what you meant by using one port or multiple, assuming you meant the USB ports and I've tried using the same port over and over no luck so I switched ports and same results

Holy poop, sorry I didn't read it very well apparently! Other then that, searching on Google I guess I'd do it to help but I feel extremely lazy and tired lol, got another 12 hours to pull tomorrow if nothing is reported I'll search on my way to work for tips.

Could your problem be physical, rather than about drivers? Check to see if your USB cable stays at the correct angle when you plug it in. I had a problem with a cable that sagged a bit and the connection to my PC was intermittent, I bought another cable that stayed put and the problem went away.

Or the phones data port is messed up. He did say that he tried multiple cables. Try someone else's computer instead?

Turn on your USB debugging (or ADB debugging) before you plug your phone it. When you plug it in, it should prompt you to mount the phone....i keep mine on all the time because i had the same problem

could be the physical port on the phone itself.
do you ever have issues with the phone not charging?
is there alot of crap (lint, dust, dirt, ect...) in the port?

I tried it on my laptop and my other computer both using Windows 7 64bit
The only time I've had any constant success with having the phone connected was when I rooted it a few months back on my old PC that had XP 32bit. I don't see why that would be causing the trouble though I've tried using VMWare and XP Mode to see if it showed up there but still no luck. I don't have access to a computer with XP anymore to try it out. I wouldn't really want to have to resort to using an old computer just to connect my phone to it either though lol

No, charges perfectly fine from what I have seen, I can jiggle the cable gently around and it doesn't lose the charge still.
Has anyone has had problems with the USB charing. It charges and it stops charging, so I have to unplug it and plug it back in order for it to charge. Anyone knows how to fix this?
I've changed the chargers and it's the same deal. I started to have problems after I installed Galaxy S 4G Beam. Since then I've unistalled it and installed Cyanogen 9. But I still have the same problem.
Your phones USB port might be loose, you might want to get that checked out.
If problem consists try the gremlins remover

bought it knowing it was boot looping. i've fixed numerous ones in the past so i figured this one would be no different.
needless to say the volume down/power button yielded nothing. i got the android and open box but it still boot loops.
was going to try nvflash but my computer won't pick it up. and no, its not the computer or cable as its the same ones i've used 6 times before and they all found the phone fine!
also don't think its the charging port as it charges while off.
what are my others choices to revive it?
buuuuuuuump
This might sound stupid, but after reading your post it just came to me. It's probably completely unrelated, but have you tried a different battery?
Maybe try the freezer trick? I think nvflash is the best way to revive but if it's not talking then...well...
When you plug it in using the 3 button combo does anything show up on your device manager?

nope. don't even get the pop up in the system tray. but sure as the world i can use the same computer and cable and hook mine up and it picks it right up.
While mines in the shop for a cracked screen due to a 4yr old... nuff said lol
Since its used try using compressed air and a tooth brush to clean the USB port. Some people have tried that on other phones when it seems like PC and cable are ruled out due to dirt causing a bad connection.
Or try
Remove battery
USB cable removed
Hold volume +/- *No power button* keep them pressed
Plug USB cable *s/w upgrade should show up*
If you get there NV flasher should work as per instructions on it.

yeah if i can just get the computer to see it im gravy!
i'll give the compressed air a whirl later today along with a cleaning of the usb. just weird that it picks up the usb while charging on a wall outlet
the only other thing i can think of that could be wrong is that one of the power buttons doesn't work. ergo the vol up/down wouldn't work.

Mine wouldnt see it either it turn out to be alot of build up of dirt and cloth inside the charge port due to keeping it in my pocket all the time.. I cleaned it all out with a sewing needle.. the other thing that would happen was the charger would pop out easily if touched... worth a try. After cleaning it my computer picked up the phone immediately.

sadly, still nothing. although now my phone is minty fresh from the toothbrush
im still bumfuzzled why i can get to the open box and android via power/vol down, yet it doesn't work?
oh well. guess i'll cut my loses and ebay it!
i feel that im so close yet i can't put all the pieces together on it

The driver doesnt work because theres a hidden driver from tegra that deals with connecting to nvflash. Try searching up nvflash and how to, I think you download the hidden driver. I hope this helps cause i got the same experience as you do

thanks or the tip, but again im using the same computer with the same driver i have with the other 5 g2x's i've had and the computer recognized those. not to mention it sees my g2x when i plug it in. so i can't foresee this being a driver problem.
Theres another driver that recognizes on nvflash

says i already have the latest version installed. guess i did that with one of the others i've fixed.
but alas, still nothing on this one particular phone.
oh well. thanks for the help. its going on ebay tonight for someone else to have better luck
I was experiencing the same issues as you. The phone was a hit and miss. According to the Tmobile rep it could be a short circuit or a bad motherboard. Getting a warranty replacement sent. Best of luck!
