Last weekend, I noticed that my phone e was no longer logging changes in charge state with battery indicator pro. I thought the program was the problem and removed it. The problem remained, so I decided to see how far it went. Even with the phone off, plugging it in won't make the white battery appear on the screen, even though the phone IS charging.
Without performing a factory reset just as a test, can anyone think of any reasons this might happen?
At&t version
Gingerbread 2.3.4 OTA
Not rooted, not unlocked
Bought new in October.
Thanks in advance!

Sounds like a bad USB port. Is it recognized by a pc? Can you transfer data?

A-ha! You are correct! I hadn't considered that branch of my troubleshotting flowchart.
My phone doesn't recognize that it has been plugged in to a PC.
Thanks for the help!
I will research remedies for this problem.

Hi all,
My Nexus S has decided to go strange on me, in short no sync, and when fully charged and plugged into wall socket the screen flickers.
Now I know this could be fixed under warranty, however the bootloader is unlocked, and USB isn't recognised so I can't undo it.
Any possible fixes? Anyone had anything similar happen?
Anything would be appreciated, I love that phone and just want it to work properly .
Cheers in advance.

Thinks its always connected, doesnt even display Samsung when i try to reboot it, just hangs. Displays batt logo a split second. Than goes unresponsive. Can enter download mode while just 3 button pressing, not connected. Can re flash to stock everytime though.

Had the same issue a while back, messing with a USB cable while plugged into it got it to go away occasionally then I think I cleaned it, its been so long I can't remember how I fixed it or if I did anything at all, its the USB port. It may be damaged, it may have some trash in there. Try blowing it out. If not send it to Samsung or see if att will replace it.
K, ya i figured that was the case with the usb port, but what about the other software oddities?
ive since went bone stock, and factory reset. Hasnt acted wierd since (crosses fingers)

Oddities like what? Download mode and the charge screen would be normal behavior when a device is plugged in to the port. Add long as there is a problem with the port these are possible symptoms.
You are correct, i apologize. I understand whats going on with my phone now. Definietly the charger port. Which it explai.s why it is acting normal right now. Because im not restarting it right now.

Sometime when I was flashing different kernels I noticed my phone now thinks my charger is USB and is going VERY slow to charge, I've wiped my phone and switched kernels/roms over and over but it won't go back to AC when it's charging is there something I'm missing to fix this?

It's an issue with some kernels, restore a backup or do a full wrote and it should clear it up.
If it still won't work then it's hardware related

It seems really random, I restored my AOKP ICS harsh kernel backup last night and at first it was switching back and forth between USB/AC then after a minute stayed on USB, today I restored Cm7 backup to use the camcorder then I restored the same backup from last night and now it's staying on AC
- just to test, it's been plugged in for 20 minutes and on AC, I unplugged it and plugged it right back in and it's only staying on USB, tried a different charger still USB
Is it safe to assume it's my phone at this point?
E: If I only push the charger cable in VERY slowly, stop halfway, it will go to AC then if I push it in completely it will stay but if I just pop it in 9/10 it goes to USB
-It does this with the two chargers I've tried, one an actual removal USB cable and one that can't be removed

Sounds like the Charge/USB port may be going bad.
Well that sucks, no chance to get a refurbished one then either since I can't connect it to my computer to remove the nvflash? Lol

you could try, if your still in the warranted time, just flash a 2.3.3 rom and try removing the superuser.apk file using a file explorer program (i think its in /system/apps or something close to that). it cant hurt to give it a shot right?
I'm sure they'd figure it out just by the second LG screen with the blue background popping up right?

You'd be apprised how little they actually check for this stuff. Allot of them only check for superuser.apk

Thanks, he didn't even seem to check anything for root just said he didn't understand why it wouldn't connect to the computer and okayed getting it replaced
No one claimed it so ima mess with it, but it won't turn on at all nor charge, what's going on with it?

It is most likely the hardware. A randomly found phone has likely not been modded, so it's probably a bad charge port, or maybe a bad battery. If you could find someone with a Charge and borrow their battery for a few minutes, you could verify what it was. There's an off chance it could be a bad kernel flash keeping it from charging...not likely though.
Could it possibly be remote locked by Verizon if reported lost? I was thinking that could be it too.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using xda premium
Possibly...I'm not really sure how that works though...didn't think it would prevent charging, but maybe.
from my understanding, remote locks simply prevent anyone from getting past the lock screen after booting up - but there really should not be anything preventing them from using a micro USB and flash it back to stock via odin. but shrike is right, you need a battery first

I do got a battery, maybe the weather conditions fryed it or something, anyway I think I may have found its owner, I'll wait to confirm before tinkering with it.

So this morning I installed SkyJellybean from seanzscreams. I've been using it all morning and into the afternoon. I've installed plenty of custom roms, i have CWM from skater and I've never had a problem... until now. I went on a walk with my girlfriend, phone in my pocket the entire time, when I got back I pulled my phone out and tried to unlock it. Nothing happened. I tried to reset it. Nothing. Pulled battery, tried to go into recovery, tried to go into download mode, absolutely NOTHING. My phone isn't responding whatsoever. Seems like a brick but before the walk the phone was working perfectly fine and now it's dead. I didn't do anything from the time I stopped using it to the time I got home. This makes no sense to me whatsoever. It doesn't even vibrate. What in God's name is going on here?
Tell me what you think.
No offense....but...dead battery?
maybe the battery is dead.
if that doesn't work try a jig USB_JIG

None taken. Thanks for the input. I'll check into that.
EDIT: It would be a fried battery, more like. Now to hit up all of my Android user friends for a compatible battery. If this works... I'll be mad.

Yeah absolutely nothing. I've kept it plugged in for quite some time now. Just in case. I'm thinking it's not the battery. I ended up calling AT&T and blamed KIES.

if u usb connect to the pc and pull battery to boot in dl mode and *the pc doesnt recognize it at all* use samsug kies to manually install the device drivers on the computer and odin will should find ur phone. the phone will be blank probably but the green light will turn on in odin. i have bricked this thing bad. sometimes it takes 3-4 days of being dead with no battery in it before it will boot into dl mode.
