Looks like Walmart may be the newest to have made a pricing mistake. Placed an order before they could change it. Question is, will I have a new 2 year contract in the coming weeks?
Here is a link:
Captivate for $229
If anyone else jumped on this, leave your comments in here. I'll take it as a group effort to see if anyone else gets hit with a new contract.
**Thanks to samven582 over at AndroidForums for finding this
***Link fixed now. Still waiting to see if my order was canceled
In for one..
I got one at a corporate store early, but paid $499. If this shows up tomorrow or Tuesday I will be a happy man.. Thanks OP!
Wait, so this is like buying the phone outright, no contracts, no plan, nothing? In other word for $230 you get a 16GB phone and could just use it as an mp3/media player just like an ipod touch? If that's the case I am so getting this. Someone please verify.

Phone should be here Tuesday or Wednesday, so I'll report back then if any changes have happened. I just added a data plan so there was no confusion about getting a new plan. The only thing that has me worried is they ask for the last 4 of the SSN, and the number of the phone. Hopefully they don't use my upgrade cause I will be quite upset. But I will update as I see changes.
The link in the first post makes you choose a data plan... but apparently if you do, you can get the phone for free?
I don't see a "no contract" option.

I think this is probably a special one day release deal thing given the fact that walmart says the price is special. At what stage do they ask you for your SSN? I am at the credit card stage and a little worried to give it to them. If this really doesn't require opening an account with AT&T or getting a cell phone plan then I think it just rocks. Though I still plan to get the new iPod touch and Epic 4g so maybe this is a waste. So tempting all the same though.

On the right hand side underneath the price there are 3 options. the bottom one says "Phone-only price (no plan purchase)" If you don't purchase a plan then why would they require an internet plan, and where in the ordering process do they ask for that?
I just went all the way through the ordering process to the final stage where you agree to the Let's Talk terms and the Place Order button, nowhere on there did it ask me to add a data plan or anything. Then again they needed my phone number to verify me as an AT&T customer and I gave them my VERIZON cell phone number, so if I were to click place order maybe it wouldn't go through, or something.
Just ordered one as well. No contract requirements. If you are currently upgrade eligible, you can get it free.
No tax, no other fees. When it arrives, I simply need to put my current SIM card in and there probably won't be any activation fee either. Sorry, you iPhone 4 owners probably need to go to AT&T corp store and ask for a REAL sim card (vs the mini one in the iPhone 4) in order to use the new phone. Or sometimes, the new phones comes with a new SIM card. But in order to activate that, you will have to pay activation fee.
I fully expect places like Walmart, Best Buy and Amazon offer much better deal than AT&T but that typically only happens a few days after release.
Order placed, if it goes thru that will be awesome.

I just jumped on this offer and was able to pick a no contract option and paid 229 for the phone via my credit card. I did not pick any plans or accessories. It did ask me for the last 4 digits of my social security, my name on the account and the phone number I was going to use it with. "needed it to program the phone to work with the service" or something like that.... Completed the transaction and so far so good... Checked the online status right after and there was a note "customer attention" needed. But no link to what they needed. So I will keep you folks updated...
So for all of you who have completed the transaction, check your order status and post what it is.... I am wondering if someone at walmart/lettalk wireless needs to confirm everything and if there a hicup somewhere they might cancel all of these orders at this price???
Unlike a day ago, they now actually advertised a price. Since they advertised this price they HAVE to give it to us for that price or they can be in legal trouble. I found a pricing error once by Fry's and they had to give me the phone for $100 off even though it was incorrect.
I just checked order status and it says customer attention needed too. Also says it needs it before order can be completed, but it said my order was completed when I placed it. What is walmart doing...
I got the "need customer attention" thing too.. We'll see..
Got the same order status. Not sure what else they needed.
Maybe they have to check AT&T system to verify my account before completing the order.
Ahh, it says I only placed an order, but still, I should be able to say that it is false advertising if they try to change my order or cancel it.
Can we go to Best Buy right now and do price matching?

No they don't. Perhaps you're new to deal-seeking on the internet, but price mistakes pop up all the time, and the retailer can cancel your order with out repercussion. I placed an order for mine as well, but I'm not counting on it going through until I receive the shipping notification.
My order status is the same as everybody elses. So who is going to them up and find out what's going on?
Mine says Customer Attention needed also and letstalk customer service is not open on Sunday. Feeling a little leery....

At least one of us (a user on androidforum) has an order that is getting ready to ship already. They choose over night shipping, I wonder if that has anything to do with it. I just went for free shipping.

Sorry to start another thread, but I just wanted to give everyone a heads up that Let's Talk now has The Fuze. I have been waiting to see if it would pop up there or on Amazon first. I bought it through the Walmart website. You can get the phone for either $99 or free. The free option requires you to start out with a voice plan of at least $59.99. The $99 option let's you choose a voice plan of $39.99. Although, both options make you get a data plan, but I was going to get one anyway. My total price (tax and all) was 195.53 before the $50 mail-in rebate. I'm very happy, and can finally stop wasting time at work.
I was going to upgrade through them, but they told me something completely laughable. You can upgrade a family plan, but EVERY LINE ON YOUR PLAN BEGINS A NEW 2 YEAR CONTRACT!!!
I was like, what're you ****ing kidding me? That'd be five 2 year contracts to get a cheaper upgrade, thanks but no thanks.
I tried this with my 4-line family plan. The configurator allowed me to get two of them free and two lesser phones free of charge. None of my lines are currently under contract... I am finding it hard to see the drawbacks to this.

Was this a representative that told you that or on the internet because it sounds completely inane :O?
If you talked with somebody, i'd try to give it another go.
Interesting, if there is a way to do this without extending all the contracts on the line I'll take mine back to the AT&T store. You can do this in store right?
The website states that whether you upgrade one line or all lines there will be a new 2yr contract for all lines in a family plan.

The upgrade price is $249.99. Be careful when dealing with LetsTalk. They have different terms and conditions in addition to AT&T's that are more strict. You MUST have a data plan to get this deal, and MUST have the data plan active for at least 6 months, or they will charge your credit/debit card at least $250.00.
I maybe retarded but I can't find how to upgrade 1 line on a family plan. It never gives me the option of choosing one line, just selecting a plan. If I select the family plan that I have it asks me to add at least 2 phones to complete the order.
Any ideas on upgrading just one line on an existing plan? Thanks.
Hmm...I just went through the LetsTalk procedure and it's telling me that, with an upgrade, you can get two Fuzes completely free? If this is true, I'm running immediately back to the store and returning this $350 dollar one.

Thanks for the heads up. Hopefully I won't have any issues, as I was already planning on getting a data plan. If anything "weird" happens, I'll be sure to let everyone know.
Just a head's up. I have been with AT&T for years. Simply put, purchasing ANYTHING from letstalk.com is like walking into a mexican brothel without a condom. I have read many situation regarding these people, they are 100% sales driven. For those not wanting to believe me, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE read ALL the fine print. You might save a little now but 80% of the time you will spend much more later.
This has been a public service announcement from KD8DNS
I too have been with ATT for many years, and read of many angry stories related to orders from them. I have ordered from them twice in the past and have not had any trouble either time, BUT... I agree with KD8DNS, there is an expansive amount of fine print with many rules that govern the purchase. Read this twice even three times, so that you won't be one of the many complaining in 6 months that Letstalk charged you $250 per line because you violated terms.
yea...
This looks too good to be true...
I am moving from T-Mobile and need my number ported...
I am planning on getting a hefty voice and data plan anyway, so that shouldn't be any issue...I need the data plan for work and I pay a arm and leg to T-Mobile now so over $100 is par for the course.
I think I am going to wait to see if this comes through for someone else...signing up for new service on ATT, they say that I am only going to have to pay $99, and get a $99 rebate after 6 mos of service...that is not a big deal, but getting the phone for free really seems too good to be true!
BTW, I have been looking to jump from T-Mobile for quite some time now as I need a WM phone on a 3G network and Sprint/Verizon service leaves something to be desired in my area...
I mean, come on...$99 out of my pocket for this phone???? And I get that back with a rebate after having service for 6 mos????
That is just crazy...seems way too good to be true.
I don't get it how people have problems with Letstalk. I have ordered twice from them and had a great experience. The rule is
You can NOT downgrade your plan and you can not be late on your bill. If you do that for 6 months, it is a great deal.
Simply put: If you take the LetsTalk deal, you cannot alter your account in any way for 6 mos. If you move and have to change your number that may cause your rebate to be rejected even worse they may charge you the $250 I mentioned earlier. If you are stable and the features you select are fine for 6 mo. it may be worth it. It is not really to good to be true. They make the bulk of their money in commissions paid by AT&T. However, the commissions are tied to you living up to your commitment to them/AT&T. I have ordered from them before without issue, but I admit that i am a rare breed. If you decide to take the plunge, just know what you are getting into.

Yea, that fits me to a tee...
I have done the research and know what I want...I am not going to alter my account at all. I am not going to move at all.
They don't have them in stock though...backordered...D'OH!
It's also only good for new contracts or porting from another carrier. It's $250 for existing ATT customers with a 2 year contract extension.
I already bought my fuze through the At&t store. Can I return it to take advantage of this freebie deal Let's Talk has? What it he penalty for returning it?
I was an out of contract, upgrade available customer. So I ended up getting my phone for 260.

I took mine back and all that I had to pay was $20.00 a restocking fee. The rest of the fees were all reimbursed. I was told by the 800# that it is up to each store whether they charge the $20.00 dollar restocking fee. The store I went to did.
I bought our family plan almost 2 years ago from Letstalk.com and it was a great experience. I have not changed out plan at all other than changing phones and data/text plans. But the base talk plan has stayed the same.
Jeff
I was actually considering buying from letstalk.com. I have my fuze that I bought yesterday all packed up like it's new and I'm returning it first thing. They also said that if you're returning and it has no problems, they'll take $20. If it has a problem, they'll waive that fee for you. But what's up with this part in LetsTalk's Terms and Conditions? :S
If you extend your contract length on a family plan, all lines will be extended.

So I got this little gem from reddit, and thought I would post it here and see what people think:
http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2009/09/01/cwta-wireless-code-conduct.html
Calling to cancel your contract before they make changes will not work. When my friend got out of his contract he said you have to wait for the bill to show up in the mail showing the change to your service. Once the change appears you have 30 days to cancel. This works, believe it or not even if they REDUCE the price of your service. Another website pointed out that another guy got out of his contract when they raised his late fees, something he said he never used. The bottom line is that ANY change to your contract is reason enough to cancel, it's the law.
How this change affects your contract depends on when you signed.
Be aware that when you do this they may drop you as a client the second you hang up the phone so have a backup plan ready.

What do you guys think? Viable?
Like many out there, I tried to purchase a Captivate from Walmart/Letstalk when they were advertising the ridiculously low off-contract price. Of course they did not honor it and that was expected. More than anything I was kind of annoyed that they told me I had to have an ATT contract in order to buy the phone there (so much for "Off Contract").
So I complained to the BBB on the basis that they changed their price up then back down then back up (skip to the last paragraph to skip any explanation of what I said). I mentioned that I understand if it was a pricing error then that's that, but the fact that it was posted twice (once after it was "fixed") combined with not finding wording stating that you must have a current ATT contract in addition to being told the first time that it was just an address issue, that I would like them to resolve the issue. My ideal resolution would be honoring the price (never expected) or at the very least fixing the wording on their site to make it clear that you needed an ATT account.
I sent the complaint to Walmart since if you navigate to their site from there, there is very little telling you that you are on a new site (letstalk.com) and also because it was the only way I could see to bring the issue to the attention of Walmart (short of sending a letter via snail mail).
Anyway, the resolution they offered was to give me 100 dollars off the purchase price (still need an ATT account though). I'm just posting this in case anybody else wants to give it a shot. I personally did not accept their offer (I can't anyway) and offered a middleground solution of them posting on their site that you need an ATT contract in order to purchase off contract.
100 bucks off? maybe they'll just give u a gift card and ask u to pay the retail price on the phone.
never mind

They offered $100 off for all those who ordered but didn't call in to cancel. But that's still $399.
I ended up paying $275 for an early upgrade in AT&T store.
As for AT&T account requirement, that's normal practice and since you can't get any unlock code anyway for Captivate (see other threads). So what's good to buy a Captivate without AT&T account.
turbo sim seems interesting though

I would assume so you dont have to extend your contract two years with att ,
If I can buy new phones every year (with $75 early upgrading fee), I have no problem extending my contract. It's not like I can't get any new phone until 2 years later.
FYI, my last upgrade was @ 10/2009 with 2-year contract. So, nine months for a new phone isn't too bad for me.
Verizon simply isn't an option for me (I need GSM phones for international travel). So, it's not like I have another carrier to sign on to.
I went the first day they released the phone and bought on contract at best buy, where they matched the price of the walmart website which free! The guy I bought from also told me they would match the off contract price. So I ended up just paying the tax for two phones. I honestly don't know what best buy's policy is on price matching, but the best buy mobile guy and his manager approved the price match.

What price was that? $149?
I see it in Wirefly for $99. Wonder if they would match that.Although I'd be willing to pay a bit more to get it locally.
To my surprise, BB has it in their store for $229. Anyone paying that has done zero research. I suppose there are poor souls that fit in that category.

I paid 199 for my phone at Best Buy the second day it was out. They price matched the AT&T advertised price. I wasn't really concerned at the price because I had gift cards for best buy from a rebate offer I wasn't expecting so I ended up getting the phone for free.
Ill give the short version... preordered on the 15th. told i'd get today. rep NEVER told me i needed to sign some email for verification. Email was sent to some god awful old address i dont even use. all that was offered was a $10 credit. Ive been w/ tmobile since like 02' and thats the best they can do??. call back and he can give a free month but only if i extend for 2 yrs....no thanks. So now i have to go to the store tomorrow and wait another day to get the phone. Oh ya btw i dropped my current phone in the toilet and it doesnt work so i have no phone @ the moment. im so livid I cant even see straight...... seriously considering another carrier just off of principle alone..
Call and talk to customer retention... They'll do much better.

both offers WERE from retention...i thought they could do much better as well.
Wait, what email? I received no email. Did you get tracking info?
Retention's not doing deals like they used to. I got a G2 from them for $249 with 16 months left on my contract. For the G2X they (mutiple agents) told me if I wanted to go to VZW, maybe I should. My average bill per month for the past 12 months is $350ish because of international roaming. Once the AT&T deal closes I'm going to take their advice and move back to VZW. By then, VZW will have LTE well implemented and a dual-core Android worldphone. With high-value post paid customer gone, T-Mobile can focus all thier attention on $29 per month prepaid customers which, based on CSR attitude, is what they'd prefer.
They did the 249 for me on 2 g2x. I was at the sprint store.
I would of had a deposit on sprint. So it evened out.

it seems like your right. I mean lets be serious. they KNOW i want the phone. hell I already bought accesorries for it so ya I am going to get it. its just how they went about the whole thing was so wrong i could not believe i was speaking with tmobile. The last guy who offered the free month w/ 2yr extension @ one point said " what do you want us to do?" and not in a helpful way. Like a "we dont care if you cancel;good riddance" kind of way. im still in shock over the whole thing. But its like im trapped. either shake this off and get the phone or go with another carrier, get charged an ETF for breaking contract then getting a higher bill with AT&T, sprint ,etc.
I had a $400 flexpay available which I took... There was on ONLINE form which required me to type in my name.
The only email I got was that my payment went through and it shipped.
Mine said it was supposed to be here Monday so I sold my N1 online. I called last night because it hadn't arrived nor had UPS showed it was even shipped. The lady on the phone told me that online orders were "pre-orders" and the phone wasn't even supposed to ship until Wednesday. I had her and her manager go to the website and tell me where, anywhere, did it say a preorder. I also said people were getting them already and they "assured" me that no one was getting them yet.
I actually had the supervisor cancel the order because I said I'd rather pick it up Wednesday rather then have it ship Wednesday. 20 minutes after I got off the phone, UPS showed it was picked up and scheduled for next day delivery. So I don't even know if they cancelled it or just got it shipped.
Just cancel it and pick one up at the store tomorrow. At this point it isn't even worth fighting with them to get it shipped. I ordered mine Friday with standard shipping and I just got mine a few minutes ago.
Customer retention did me right on today. To make a long story short I have had problems with my Vibrant since day one back in July. From the GPS to the freezing and reboots. T-Mobile has sent me 5 Vibrants since August and when I called on today I asked to speak with a manager. I told them I would like to cancel my account because I spent $500 on a phone and they have done nothing to fix it for me. I told them I tried every GPS fix known to man but none of them worked to my standards. I play golf and use Skydroid so I need the GPS to be pretty damn accurate. It worked fine on my N1 and MyTouch 3g. She then said "I can give you a $200 credit if you upgrade your device." I told her if she looked at my account I haven't been under contract with them for 3 years and have purchased my last 4 devices off contract so what makes you think I want to sign a 2 year contract now with this AT&T merger looming around. She asked me how they could keep me as a customer and I asked her what the value of my used Vibrant was. She told me $354. I then said, "the only way I will remain a T-Mobile customer is if they buy my Vibrant back for $354 and I purchase a G2x off contact for the difference". She put me on hold for 5 minutes and came back and said they would be willing to do that and would ship my G2x tomorrow and after I receive it I have 7 days to return my Vibrant. She even asked me if I would like to pay for the G2x right now or just add the cost to my bill. I chose to pay it now and should have a G2x in my hand by Friday for less than what people are paying to upgrade. Big deal, my Vibrant is gone but I got two cores of goodness for a little over $150 off contract.
Ask for a rep to come bring you a phone immediately. That's how you only paid $100 for the phone with no contract right?

Customer retention did me right on today. To make a long story short I have had problems with my Vibrant since day one back in July. From the GPS to the freezing and reboots. T-Mobile has sent me 5 Vibrants since August and when I called on today I asked to speak with a manager. I told them I would like to cancel my account because I spent $500 on a phone and they have done nothing to fix it for me. I told them I tried every GPS fix known to man but none of them worked to my standards. I play golf and use Skydroid so I need the GPS to be pretty damn accurate. It worked fine on my MyTouch 3g. Awesome. This is what retention is meant for. You had a real serious legitimate issue and were considering cancelling. The people that are saying retention isn't doing what they used to are likely people that threaten to cancel whenever they want to get something. T-Mobile sees your history and how often you talk to retention or get deals from them. Eventually they will just call your bluff.

it was an email with a "electronic signature" link that needed to be clicked to confirm the phone. i mean I confirmed my full social, secret code, billing AND shipping address. I dont see why this was even needed. I received no tracking info because it was never shipped.

Blame your state. That's why this is in place. What other carrier lets you split your phone up in payments? I'll go with.... none. It was their fault for not checking the email addy but come on it is only one more day.

That's the full discounted price of the phone, so sounds like a good deal they gave you, but they should never had told u to go back to VZW, they should have went thru the bill and lowered it and also gave you an unlock code for your current phone so when you roam internationally you can just grab a pre-paid sim from where ever you are for way cheaper prices.

i completely agree however im not one of those people who call and complain for every little issue. truth is ive NEVER had an issue with tmobile until this happened. 1st time ever threatening to cancel and 1st time speaking w/ retention.

the only reason its an issue is because i have no phone @ the moment. (see 1st post) so in the rare case that there was an emergency and I needed a phone id be screwed. If i did still have a phone i'd be annoyed but would have just took it for what it is. A retarded mixup on their part. Which is what im doing

I definitely wasn't calling you out specifically, more just a general statement, or if anyone specifically it was Barry that said they aren't doing what they used to.
Regarding your situation, if they offered you a free month, that is usually the most retention will give as far as financial credits, and it will always require a 2 year contract from my experience (in customer care, not as a customer threatening to cancel).
You really want to go to some crap company over a couple days, when you are the one who ruined your other phone?? And if you are buying this, I am sure you can afford to spend $20 for a prepaid at walmart to give you the basic functionality that is essential. Geesh

I was still in contract with 10 months to go for a full upgrade. When I called, I asked about the upgrade. When the CSR told me I didn't qualify for the upgrade I immediately asked how much it would be just to cancel the service. She said "$200" and my reply to her was "Thats it? I may as well just do that then." She right away offered me a full upgrade.
I too had to go along with the electronic signature but my CSR was nice enough to ask me what email to send it to and let me know when it was coming. I feel for you, man. It's a shame that most companies are straying away from quality customer service, especially with consumers that have been long term with the company. I guarantee if you were a new customer, they would have bent over backwards for you.

How have you been with tmo that long and don't have a phone laying around? I have at least 3 that I could dig up and throw a sim in.

Hello Forum,
I'm interestted in the S10 preorder offer and I've been contacting Samsung customer service to get some info about the trade-in program and their answers has been completely contradictory. I've called at least 4 times and every time I received a different answer.
My case is that I have an S8+ that I would like to trade, I have this phone with tmobile under an EIP and still have some payments left on it.*In the trade-in FAQ here:*https://www.samsung.com/us/trade-in/frequently-asked-questions/* ...... you can read:
"The device I’m trading in is one that I bought using an equal payment or other financing plan, and I still have payments left on it. Can I still trade it in?
Yes – however, please note that all remaining payments on the device you’re trading in are your responsibility. You may also be subject to additional fees. Check with your current carrier for details."
However, every time I talked with the customer servive reps at Samsung they give me a differet answer, some says that I have to pay in full, another say no need, other say they can not guarantee that I will meet the requirements ..... whats happening here?? Its really confusing and I'm shocked with the lack of knoledge and / or training of the Samsungs CSRs.*
Anyone can help, PLEASE?? Anyone with a real experience about this matter?? I would appreciate any input ....... Thanks a lot!!
I'm wondering the same. Cant pass up $550 for a note 8 trade in. Sounds to good to be true. I went ahead and ordered and will take my chances. If they low ball me or wont take it then i'll have them send it back. I could send my s8+ but they only want to give $200 or maybe its $300 for that. It's paid for from ATT and sim unlocked. I'd rather keep that around as a spare. It's worth $300. The note 8 is not worth $550, hopefully they'll take it. It's still on someones ATT account because they wont let me unlock it. Said i still owed. I bought it new in box for $50 right before the Note 9's came out lol. Been using it as my daily driver. Someone probably got the buy one get one free deal then decided they wanted some Crack too. In the right place at the right time.

If it's under an EIP, then you can trade it in. (Logic is you technically own the device, just being financed) However, once traded in, your monthly fee for the device is still due each month even though you no longer have the phone. (Until it's paid in full) So at some point you will need to pay off the phone regardless
If you're under something like JUMP by t-mobile, these types of phones are considered leases, and are ineligible for trade-ins due to the fact they need to be returned to the provider at the end of their terms.
As far as requirements, mainly that the IMEI / ESN are clean. If at some point you failed to continue making payments or such and the device is blacklisted, they may deduct/charge back/return device.
It also depends if you plan on staying with T-Mobile or not. You'd be unable to port out your number with a EIP attached to it without paying off the device in full.

Thanks for the reply ...... Today I received an email from Samsung regarding my reservation and they are calling the trade-in program "enhanced trade-in", any idea of what does it mean? its just another Samsung promotional tactic??
