Since I have a giant clock widget on my home screen I feel this is pretty redundant. A quick google search yielded this result:
http://www.market4android.com/remove-the-clock-from-task-bar.php
But, that's for the Hero. Any ideas on if we can do something similar with the EVO?
hahaha, same here. it's retarded when i click on the show your home screen thread and see the huge sense like time along with the smaller taskbar time. or people have the battery widget showing the same thing as the taskbar battery. having the widget repeating the same information as the taskbar is redundant. it would be nice to disable it in the taskbar so i can put up some widgets.
Im really wanting to get rid of my stock battery icon as well. I had it on the hero, since Im using a battery widget that shows the percentage up there anyway.
I have the time removed on my moment but i doubt the same update zip will work on the evo.
itd be great if we could...

I did something like this on my old moto droid, that made the time disappear. Only prob left an open spot where the tine used to be, but at least it was gone. I will check on droid forums.net to see if I can find it.

Obviously some way to shift the icons over or put something else there would be ideal, but even just removing the time and having a blank space would be fine with me. I just think it's dumb to have the time shown twice right next to each other. Thansk for checking.
I agree. The only time it's handy is when you're in an app and you want to check the time real quick by hitting menu and dropping down the notification bar. I wonder if I'd miss that once it's gone.
When I get home I'll try to achieve it if no one else has, wish I knew how to remove that empty space tho >.
You can get rid of the notification bar altogether with ADW Launcher. Don't know if that will help you guys.

I still want the notification bar..I just don't want the time in it and I'm appealing to the experts here because I don't know how to mod the notification bar.
A thousand internets to whoever does it.
This is now made in photshop. The plan is making 5 or 7 homepages based on Home, Applications, Games, Music, Weather etc etc with on each left side a screenshot which I will paste in a x10 png photo exactly.
Questions:
How can I put the shortcuts on my screen without a title underneath it, so just a clean text.png file which will be the shortcut?
Which Launcher can you hide the bottom dock (and notification bar) totally? Or do I have to wait making this till we have 2.1 and use Launcher Pro?
Which application do I need to put the Home.png X10.png and the verticalbar.png files as pictures only without frames around it or anything? Especially the vertical bar will give problems I assume...
Hopefully somebody knows the answers and I can work with it. When it's done, I will share everything here of course...It needs quite a few hours of photoshopping and making everything the right size, but the plan is already in my head, which is half of the job...
Cheers,
Arnold
ADW launcher You can hide the icon labels, app drawer (bottom dock) and the status bar (notification bar). You hide the app drawer by holding your finger on it and when arrows show up just pull it. The icon labels can be turned off in the ADW settings.
EDIT: As for your question about the big icons..that can be done through ADW aswell but only if you compile it as a theme or using another application like BetterCut (not free if i remember correctly).
The vertical bar...i suggest you put it on the background itself because the only other way would be to make it into a gadget but in that case you would have a lot of trouble with aligning it like that (even with the overlapping function from ADW). All of the mentioned can be done but will require patience and in some cases XML editing to gain the desired effect.
EDIT(2): I'm not sure if BetterCut crops the icons or allows for big icons...someone else will have to answer that.
Hope i helped
owh.. nice work and hope u success PollPixx.. Hope it will be nice as the same you created the WP7 for WAD in windows mobile. Its really a nice work.
all of your enquiry can be used in adw launcher (donut). it really a nice launcher.
1. u can hide the label
2. status bar can be hide except for the dockbar i dont know about this one as this is a must as u need it to launch the apps
3. for the pic widget this one i still dont have it but you can try bettercut as u can paste any shorcut and even internet history
p.s. Sorry if i give wrong info. still new in android world
I have adw already, did not know you can hide labels. I will start working on it and see if better cut
Does the job as I wanted...thanks for info....

ADW Settings -> Screen preferences -> Hide StatusBar
ADW Settings -> UI Settings -> Hide icon labels
Thanks I found it.
With better cut the icons will be small. I need some picture programm to add the bigger x10 picture on my screen. It does have to be a shortcut as well. Bettercut crops my icons, Anyone?

I think if you add icons through ADW (Hold on the screen and Add->Custom shortcut) it should give you an option to adda full icon or crop an image..
But i never tested this so i'm not sure.

good luck on the theming

Start to look nice. Will post the screens when I am finished, probably during next week...

It is working indeed: I DONT KNOW WHAT THAT BLACK STRIPE IS ABOVE DIALER, IT IS NOT ON MY SCREEN....must be something wrong with the screenshot
have to fine tune the bar so it will be in the middle, the x10 picture is not as sharp as the original so have to define the exact resolution to get it sharper and find a digital clock which is smaller than d-clock widget, than make the other 5 pages.

have you tried digital clock by maize? I know that's smaller than our stock digi clock and has more customizing options.
I use now our stock clock but 1x1, fits perfect.
For some reason my phone is rebooting every hour all of the sudden.
When it finally starts up all widgets which i added disappeared and I have an empty homescreen. Never happened before till today...
Very annoying!
If i touch on the spots where the widgets were, it vibrates and I can swype them to the dustbin. But when i just tap on the place where the widgets should been, nothing happens! It is driving me nuts, what is wrong with the phone all of the sudden???
What I am doing now has nothing to do with root or playing in the settings, I just add homemade icons as shortcuts. I just finished HOME and APPS and now I can start all over again for the second time!! Damn.....Does anyone know or experienced the phone reboots all the time? If yes, what is the solution??
well, i give up, I reset the phone in factory settings and started all over again, just installing adw en desktop visualizer first.
When I add more than 2 pages of widgets the phone reboots all the time, it must be desktop visualizer, further on my phone is empty now. I come this far and than it crashes all the time, spend 6 hours and result is a complete empty phone
very frustrating, all my games and settings and programs are gone with no result on this theme....
EDIT: WHEN I PUT MY TELEPHONE ON THE COMPUTER, IT WORKS, SO SOMETHING IS WRONG ON MY SD CARD....
HOW CAN I FIGURE OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS WITH IT AND HOW DO I EMPTY AND CLEAN IT COMPLETELY?
Edit 2: The icons will not load after reboot...damn....i am really lost now...
Edit 3: reboot again and now it says, "no sim", i think i ruined my phone somehow....HELP!!!!
try flashing with SEUS or pc companion, that should totally repair your phone.
regards DauL
Thanks..... i know, but how do you do that, without sim my computer doesn't recoginze my phone in pc compagnion. This is sooooooooo frustrating, something must be wrong on my sd card, if it's working and I say IF, first thing i do is formatting my sd card (first copy the files to the computer). When I do that, which files on SD card I have to keep on it to avoid my phone bricks again ???

Sorry to hear about your project, there's nothing worse than spending hours of work for no apparent reason. Can't you use SEUS instead without the sim card?

Just format the card and put it back in, the phone, I would imagine will just rewrite the essential files, I think. I've done it before and it worked ok.
thanks, I go now to a repair centre which is luckily in my town I called them, know someone who works there and he says he can reset my phone.
I will delete all files from my sd card and put music/video/pictures back on and put it in my phone than to see what happens, thanks for the quick reply, hopefully it will work out.
Maybe using shootme with the 1 click root system ruined it, i installed that recently or Desktop Visualizer, that's the other new thing on my phone. Since than the problems started...
I am guessing it was shootme, as Desktop Visualizer works for everyone if you read all the comments about it....
Still frustrated by the way

Try without that and see what happens, it may well work for others, but if the majority of them are using solid built themes, and your just in the process of making/testing one, it could just be a compatibility issue that you've not yet pinpointed.
flashing right now, thanks, i will post the progress today....just in case other unlucky members have the same problem
Flashing seems to be okay, I lost of course everything i installed, but it starts up again.
Next move, only install ADW and Desktop Visualizer in 2 hours, first i don't want to have a reboot for 2 hours to be sure...
If it goes wrong again, I know where the problem was......
flashed it and everything is working again. Even my new project goes well after reboot...i thaught....but after 2 pages again it is restarting every minute and i have to flash again. so it is proven for me Desktop Visualizer will not work on our phones when you want to add several pages full of widgets....
Is there any other tool than desktop visualizer which get the job done?
Or a home programm like ADW which you can set a different wallpaper for each page! That would do the trick to, than I make everything in photoshop and add with bettercut blank .png files for the shortcut on the right places....
Cheers,
Arnold
I'm sure I'm not the only one who hates the iphoney icons...I tried a couple things, but even using bettercut, the launcher still boxes in the icons, which is a pain for apps with long titles.
I'm in bed now(wife's orders), so I'm going to look in the morning, but has anyone else tried looking?
I posted a MOD in this forum that is the stock Android 2.2 Launcher. It works great in my opinion.
ADW Launcher , on another note, I think the bubble around the icons are built into the code for the app. I don't know how HTC did it so it's very likely that I'm wrong.

luncher 2? and we should be able to get that to stick now
i just want the bubbles around the icons gone, everything else im fine with. Is there any way to access the myfavs thing? I probably would just switch to launcher pro if i could do that
Either ADW or LP will let you set the buttons to the left and right of the app drawer button to whatever you want. Just set one of them to the "Faves" app and the other to "Phone" and you'll have the same functionality again.
I personally don't mind the boxes around the icons as much but I hate the espresso rectangular launcher, it's so plain and ugly. I want the traditional launcher and no myfaves crap.
I dont mind the icons, but I had that the lower right key is for Favs. I dont use Favs. If I could change that I would be golden. I use and love all the Sense widgets so I dont want an alternative launcher.
I have to get a few things done for work, but as soon as I finish I'm going to pull the launcher (rosie.apk?) and poke around. It's not just a graphic file because it cuts off text if it's too long. This is probably going to take a while, but I'm sure it'll be worth it in the end.
I paid for launcher pro because I used it on my nexus and g2, but the htc widgets are very well made, and I'd like to use them. It's just painful looking at these icons.

I'd be able to make a metamorph in about a minute to change that for you. All you need to do is substitute a transparent PNG for that icon background.

Yes and no, in the stock launcher, icon text wraps to the next line. In rosie, this is not true. It just gets cut off. You can make the png transparent, but there's a very good chance it's going to get cut off still. I found some xml files in rosie.apk but didn't have enough time to look at them. I'll explore a little more once my kids go to bed.

Check out the hero section they have a mod to change the far right button so maybe following that example something can be done to this!

So I found some files of interest while rooting around this morning. In rosie.apk, there are 6 files of interest, the icon borders at rest, selected, and pressed, icon background at rest and selected, and the icon backgrounds at rest, selected, and pressed.
common_inputfield_press.9.png
common_inputfield_rest.9.png
common_inputfield_selected.9.png
common_panel_navbar_button_press.9.png
common_panel_navbar_button_rest.9.png

I made them transparent and used the sdk to change them back to .9 files, but for some reason I don't have r/w access to /system/app/. I'll have to look that up.
I wanted to start a thread to share info about the new launcher Aviate. There's no shortage of threads on requesting invites, so let's not do that here.
If you have Aviate and are actively using it, come here and share.

I've been using it for a day now and I find it curiously intriguing. It's a totally fresh user experience that feels a little like Google Now to me.
Frankly, I never thought ANY launcher could pull my attention away from my custom-crafted (ok, OCD-crafted) user experience I designed using Nova Launcher. I have the same design on all of my mobile devices and it feels like part of my DNA.
Can't say yet if Aviate will be a permanent replacement for my Nova-based home, but I seem to be staying with it.
Just saw the video presentation. I'm looking foward to have a little more feedback about this app.
I liked the fact that it categarises apps and I disliked (as in google now) the fact that you must have your gps on in order to take full advantage of it. Makes a lot of sense and it's very useful but I don't like the idea of sharing my whereabouts all the time...
Been playing with it since yesterday as well on my HTC One.
Like it so far, like the idea of the activities changing during the day. Not sure how it's controled though. Today ie, I set it to Work, and when checking my phone later on, it was set on Home... don't know why.
Of course the custom side of it is quite limited, I assumed it will be better with later versions.
Haven't figured out yet how to get shortcuts to contact phone numbers implemented in Aviate.
Any ideas?
Don't have "morning" and "night time" screens. Only "home" whole day. Any solution ?
To change between Fahrenheit and Celsius, long press on the weather notification and tap the toggle to change.

The only method I have found is to add a contact widget. Not perfect, but close.
I also haven't figured out how to save a bookmark icon to my favorites section on the home screen.
Another thing I would like to do is switch between the light and dark theme automatically based on time of day.

Thanks for the response. This is a deal-breaker for me, as I need easy access (direct-dial shortcuts) to my frequently-called contacts. I wrote to the Aviate team. I'll report back.

I was able to get an invite for aviate and loaded it up and started setting it up, when I started to wonder if this was the launcher for me. I loved the idea of chameleon launcher back when it came out, how it changed your home screen based on time of day. This seems similar in many ways. But then it dawned on me, I generally do a lot of the same things on my phone no matter where I am. That being the case, would someone like me benefit from this type of launcher?
I have uninstalled and moved on.
Not being able to do direct dial shortcuts the way I want is a deal-breaker for me.
Plus, I found that I really don't need access to different apps at different times of the day. I like always knowing where they are - all the time.
More power to those that find they like Aviate. For me, it was a swing-and-a-miss.
Hi. Just found this thread. I'm loving Aviate so far and, I'm sure the customisation will improve in future releases.
I would like more customisation of the 'spaces' (manual addition/removal etc) and better theming support. Overall, I like it a lot and in sticking with it, at least, for now!

I'm not seeing anything for landscape mode, probably another reason it is only supported on phones at this time. Does anyone know how to clear a location; as I accidentally clicked a nearby location now it keeps defaulting to it...?

Hi guys,
it is my first thread so please apologize inconvenience upfront, thank you.
I own a Pixel 2 since a couple of days and I really like it. But since I'm coming from a Huawei device and need to use iOS devices in my company I'm really familiar with the 'no app drawer' thing.
Yeah, I know that this is something most of the people love, but I really can't get used to it.
Is there anyone who maybe know how to disable the app drawer?
Already tried different launcher and the only one that I've found was the Mi-Launcher.
If there is the emui launcher somewhere outside, I would prefer this but I've looked already day after day for it.
Any help is much appreciated!
Thank you all.

Give it some more time. It's really nice to keep your home screen clutter free and all apps sorted alphabetically in the drawer. You wouldn't want all your computer find at work sorted randomly on the desktop, would you?
But if you must change it, I'm sure there are a bunch of iOS themed launchers in the play store. That's the beauty of Android... Choice!
You could use Nova Launcher. Just disable swipe app drawer and hide the drawer button. Make sure the setting "place newly installed apps on home screen" is enabled.
