Yes...this was helpful...
How long did it take for you guys to install these? I at one point had the install running for 40 minutes and it was only 35-maybe 40% complete by the progress bar. This can't be right?
I'm trying to install the 64-bit driver on Vista64.
The guys that "found" those drivers got the wrong ones. The correct ones are here. Sorry guys.

thank you!!
These new drivers seem to actually install, but I STILL can't seem to access the device memory OR the SD card. I put the phone into USB Mass Storage mode and mounted the volumes in my pull down menu, my computer simply does not seem to recongize them.
ditto, comp doesn't recognize SD card.
Okay, over on androidforums we've now had 3 people who were able to get their phone to play nice when the switched to a USB port on the rear of the computer. No idea why, but that seems to be the only way I can get all my stuff working. If it's plugged into the front, I ahve issues with my external hard drive and mp3 player - and the phone itself seemed to be spotty. Now with it plugged into a rear USB port, everything works fine.

I plugged it into two different windows XP computers with the USB cord, but nothing shows up on my computer. I get some weird error on my phone, something like "PC connection unavailable ... blah blah blah ... idle screen ... blah blah ... close applications." I think this might be because I'm using LauncherPro. Why can't I just get a simple vanilla android build?
there are custom usb drivers, look for them in the how to root thread in android development subforum. After you dl them extract them somewhere and open up device mgr. U should see a usb device with a ? over it. Rightclick it and select update or install. Tell it that you want to select the location of the drivers and point it to where you extracted the drivers. You'll want to use the x86 ones if you have an intel 32bit winxp and the amd64 if u have an amd processor running windows xp.
OK.
Bring up your Settings pane and select Applications. In the Applications screen, select USB Settings and select Mass Storage. Now, when you connect the handset to your computer, pull down your notification bar and select USB Connected, it will bring up a prompt about mounting the volumes - press Mount. In the future you will just need to plug it in and mount the drives from the pull down menu.
You should be good to go. If not, try installing the Captivate drivers.
Also several people have had issues with plugging the Captivate into the front USB ports on their computers, and switching to a rear USB port fixed it - so give that try if you are still having issues.

Thanks! That was the ticket! Wow, am I relieved. Also, for any other newbies out there, it seems like you can just throw files at the drive and android will find them. I put mine under "SD", but I have a hunch you can just put them anywhere.
Also, I refuse to install any drivers for this phone, which is why I just used it like a generic usb drive. I honestly loved my iphone, but I hated that you had to use itunes with it. If I have to install anything on my computer to use my phone, android just lost an advantage to the iphone in my eyes.

I had this same problem and there is no way I could it plug into the back so I tried the USB plugs on my monitor and thankfully that worked. I don't know why this phone was made so difficult to connect to the computer and have it recognized as storage.

Yeah, I installed them trying to figure the damn thing about but I suspect they may only be needed if you want to tether via USB - not sure though.

Weird, isn't it? It's inconvenient to have the cable in the rear, but it was the only way I could get everything to play nice. I'll have to pick up some spare cables for the charger, work, etc so I don't have to reach back there and pull it out when I need it elsewhere. Not a bad idea anyway.
I did a search, and I couldn't find anything on it.
But I wanted to use my G2x as a memory device for the xbox 360 (to move game saves and such). But when I plug in the phone and enable usb mode, it doesn't show up under "storage devices", where it should be if the xbox recognized it.
I already tried formatting the drive to fat32, and still no luck... Any help?
you need to install drivers to mount storage on a pc, so I'm guessing it won't work on a 360 for that reason
Try "mass storage only mode" under SD Card and Phone storage in settings!

Ah. That does make sense. :/
I did try the solution that the poster above mentioned, but it still didn't work. Looks like I'm off to walmart to go buy myself a sandisk usb.
If anyone else has a solution or any ideas, it's never too late to post them. Maybe someone else will try in the future.
Ah darn, I had heard that would mount the external SD card on a PC without any drivers, but haven't tried it myself yet. You are using an external SD card?
Its not just the drivers. I know for a fact My 360 would read my stock G1 and with the earliest cyanogen roms, posibly as well with my N1.
once the rumors started about the "zune phone" which became the windows 7 phone media sync broke and xbox wouldnt see any of the phones. long story short M$ blocked you so W7 phones have an advantage

My car has a USB port and I can plugin to it USB thumb drives and I could also plugin my old MyTouch 3G to it and I could play music off of them.
I cannot play music on my phone through the USB port. I assumed it was because of the drivers issue, which is REALLY unfortunate because that was great functionality...
Anyone know if these issues persist after rooting and loading a Cyanogen rom?

That isnt what this thread is about. this is about the ability for xbox to read android phones. it used to, but now it does not.
your issue could be one of a few things. anything from your specific rom to making sure mass storage mode is checked or mounting the USB when prompted. Im not sure how yours works as I prefer the AUX on my head unit
Apologies, I searched the forums and stumbled onto this, as I read through i thought it could be related and put in a reply.
I never get the prompt on my phone to mount it...which is what prompted me to search the forums. I'll keep looking
I posted this on a forum that I thought it applied to but the one answer I got did not work, I've done searches everywhere and have not seen a solution. There were a couple of similar problems for other phones but these fixes did not work for the infuse, so . . .
I Bought the infuse on day one. Installed Kies 2.0.0.11044_11_3. Phone not recognized, installed drivers, researched and learned the truth about Kies. Phone would not be recognized but at least installing Kies made the phone visible to the PC, so I knew I could root if I so desired, read up about rooting looked over the forums, learned my phone and finally thought I was ready. The phone had other plans.
Decided the other day that I was ready to root. Plugged in the phone but it no longer showed up in my PC running Windows 7 64 bit. Something about the phones compatibility with my system changed. Tried to install a newer version of Kies 2.2.1.11053_99_3 yesterday for the drivers, reinstalled drivers, activated USB debugging, plugged the phone in started up SuperOneClick and . . . still nothing happened. So I deactivated USB debugging and started over. Followed all the directions in the root posts and and SuperOneClick threads . . .
But somehow between day one and today my Windows 7 64 bit system does not know that the phone is plugged into it.
When I plug the phone into USB the phone asks me how I want to interact with the computer, Kies (Firmware Update); Media player: Mass storage. But the computer shows nothing. Device Manager doesn't list the phone, Windows Explorer doesn't show the phone, Devices and Printers window shows everything that's connected but NOT the phone, it's as if I plugged nothing into the computer. These places don't even show unknown device. The phone is charging so I know that it's plugged in, but it doesn't seem to be communicating with the PC. I've re-booted, re-installed, reviewed, rewired and re-alized that I have no clue what happened. (Tried different cables, different USB ports different times of the day)
It worked once upon a time, I tried rolling back restore points and disabling my kaspersky 2011, I've followed all rooting instructions in these threads to no avail.
Thinking about restoring phone to factory settings as a last resort. Got this reply in another thread (sorry about posting multiple threads, but I'm at wit's end.):
Try removing all instances of the Infuse coming in contact with your system using USBDeView. Also, how does it look in Disk Management? (Start button > search for "Computer Management" > Storage > Disk Management) Does the Infuse show up there as removable storage?
My answer: Tried it, didn't work, oh wait, didn't run USBDeView as administrator, re-tried as administrator and uninstalled all instances of Samsung i-997, then tried to plug the phone back in and still nothing.
Also not in Computer Management or Device manager either. Is there a way to uninstall any drivers that I have and then re-install them?
I did a factory reset, plugged the phone in and still nothing. Had to spend two days re-installing apps and re-configuring launchers . . .
I am now ready to hurl my phone out into traffic to see if that will help, but before I do I'm hoping someone here may have the answer I need.
. . . please . . .
If you are trying to root super one click will work. It worked on my infuse. First see if you can connect using mass storage. If you can access the files on your phone you are good. On win 7 64 bit it should just pop up to view the files. After that unmount and unplug the cable. Enable USB debugging and reconnect. Run super one click and it should work. Not every time does super one click work on the first run. I believe I had to unplug and reconnect a second time for it to work. But I did use super one click to root my phone. I was also using the drivers for the captivate at the time. If you need more help let me know.

FYI, drivers are NOT needed for USB mass storage, just to be clear.
Thanks for the reply, but that didn't work. I tried it exactly as you stated but it didn't "pop up" I ran SOC anyway and it got hung up "Waiting for device..." And a dos prompt window opened and just hung there.

at least for me (win7 64bit) mass storage mode DOES require drivers. Or else PC just tries to load both SD cards as external drives. I had a hell of a time getting my laptop to recognize the phone. What worked for me was I ended up installing both kies and kies mini. when neither of those worked i tried the Samsung pcl connect and that didnt work. There was a link on the ATT site for usb drivers for it. A combination of both the samsung pc connect drivers and the ATT USB driver works for me. Must be something to do with win7 recognizing it as an MP3 player when in music mode and a EXT drive when is mass storage.

You just contradicted yourself there. The phone's SD cards appearing as external drives IS mass storage mode. Mass storage mode does not require drivers.
Appearing as an MP3 player uses the MTP protocol, which is NOT Mass Storage mode, which is why it does require drivers.
ADB also requires drivers.

Thanks, but same problem. After installing these drivers, the phone just doesn't show when plugged in. The next thing is to find a Samsung store (or AT&T store) and see if there's something wrong with the phone's usb port.
Definitely one advantage of picking your phone up at a store... if possible.
My CSR played with the phone on the computer for 10 min., said he was transferring sim contacts.

i am having same problems
for the past year i have had a captivate and i have flashed it probably with every rom made by every developer here. i have flashed kernals modems you name it i have done it the phone was incredible i never had one problem till i got the infuse when i first got the phone i rooted it and had a lot of problems but after 5 or 6 hrs i finally was successful. i then could not get the phone to connect to my win 7 pc i then took out the mem card and put my roms on that then transfer them to my phone flash ect but to this day i can not get the pc to transfer files through usb. when i hook the phone up the drives show up but are faint then i connect usb on phone the drives become bold but when i try to transfer files or open drive in explorer the computer lags and the green bar slowly goes across the bar get to the almost end and locks up. my main concern is that there might be something wrong with the phone. at this point i cant even odin it back to factory. from what i have read it is more of a common problem than just one or two people. please help?
ps just flashed maxq-kk2-b10 and it rocks !!
Yeah I have all of the same problems. It must be this phone just has crap drivers.
Sometimes I get the PC to recognize the phone once. Then if I disconnect the phone for some reason then reconnect it is no longer recognized. I need to reboot the computer to get it to be recognized.
I have just come to the conclusion that Samsung's PC drivers are total rubbish for this phone.
Hi!
I have the same problem. I tried connect my infuse to 5 differend PC, with different cables, different OS, but still NOTHING. PC just didn`t know that phone is connected. As a result I can`t reflash it with ODIN or CWM, because for install CWM I need make root first, but Superoneclick didn`t see the phone also.
There is some way to make root on this phone WITHOUT connection to PC ?
try getting a new data cable, the charging part of the cable may still work but the data transfer part may have stopped working-(happened with my dads Atrix 4G after buying a new data cable for $6 at walmart the computer once again recognized it)
so go to your store of preference that sells electronic cables
buy a new data/charging cable-***MAKE SURE IT SAYS SOMETHING ABOUT DATA TRANSFER OR FILE TRANSFER!!!***
shouldn't cost more than $10 depending where you go-like i said my dad got one for $6 and his phone uses the same cable as my infuse...i think all smart phones use the same cable actually.

This is 100% not data cable problem. not driver problem and not PC problem.
I am sure, because I have 2 Infuse and one of them work fine with the same stuff. This is something wrong with the phone hardware or software.
How can I root INFUSE without PC? There is some *.apk or scripts ?
So i installed CM 7.1 tonight and when i plug my phone into the computer using my usb cable it detects my phone, charges it and allows me to mount for usb storage.
when i mount for usb storage i do not see the sd card under removable hard drives. im new to all of this rooting and this is my first time rooting and installing a custom rom so any help is greatly appreciated.
thanks!
Search on forums. Theres a thread about that. I think you need a proper driver for you pc, in order to communicate with your phone.

i have searched the forums, most of the issues are saying its not mounting and what not. i do have the LGdriver downloaded otherwise i would not have been able to put the necessary files onto my sd card. the problem started after i rooted my phone. my computer recognizes the phone when i plug it in but once i got into USB mass storage mode it doesnt show up in my removable hard drives..
sorry if sounds confusing, im having a hard time describing what exactly is wrong with it.
when i click turn on usb storage it'll say USB storage is on and the green android guy will turn orange and all the apps that are on my SD card are no longer in the app menu. but i have no way of copying files over to my sd card.
Go to Settings>Applications>Development>USB Debugging and turn that on, then plug in you USB as usual.
Hope it works
it worked! thanks!
at least you guys arent having the annoying problem im having.........every other day my phone says i have a blank sd card and when i put it in the pc it tells me it is damaged. It only does it when i mount it to usb. I think it is because the phone gets a little hot sometimes. Quite annoying
I have been dealing with this problem for a while now and it is driving me absolutely insane. I have scoured the forums and spent over 3 hours trying to get this to work and it just simply won't work.
The problem: When my phone gets plugged into USB it doesn't get recognized I have the drivers, I used to plug my old 8gb S3 in all the time as I am an "app developer" I can even plug in my Dads 16gb and it get recognized. Now I have a 16gb S3 and it simply cannot get recognized. It's stock, I just received the 4.3 update from OTA and still no luck, which I was thinking that would fix it but it's a no go. All that happens when I plug it in is that it starts charging the battery but no drop down option no nothing.
I have tried factory resets, going into the hidden developer menu when you press the keypad codes and changed those options. I have tried pulling the battery, pulling the sim card, trying different SD cards and trying different USB cables.
Any new insight or help would be fantastic, thank you guys hopefully you can help get this working for me!
Try uninstalling android file host(the computer app,i think that's the name) and reinstalling. Also try airdroid to transfer files. And if you want to transfer music from your comp wirelessly, double twist has the airsync for their music app for$5. But I know your frustration. I broke my first s3 about 3 months ago and it was rooted. Had the same problem and couldn't unroot it and get it insured through my comp, had to use my friends
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
What do you mean the android file host? like on my phone or on my PC? Not too sure what that is. Also yeah the problem doesn't really affect music and all of that it's more so I want it to be able to be detected by Eclipse and I want to root and get some roms on this ***** lol I hate stock.
Anybody? Still struggling with this issue it is driving me literally crazy.
Ugh I'm dieing!
What ROM are you running? Do you possibly have a custom kernel installed with fast charge on?
edit: nevermind I just re-read your original post. Sounds like maybe it's a hardware issue. Do you have USB debugging checked in developer options? Try that out as well.
do u have usb debugging enabled under developer options ... is it in mtp or ptp mode ..if in ptp mode try mtp mode and if in mtp mode try unchecking all boxes ... try all usb ports .. still no luck?
try installing the wugfresh root toolkit.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766475 and then follow the driver setup guide .. make sure you uninstall all things associated with andriod via device manager and usbdeview and then after restart just plug in your device and allow to automatically install .. if that doesn't work try using the generic driver option .. should work .. lemme know
