Dumb question about full web pages - Captivate General

On the Evo I had I could set web pages to full web pages instead of mobile rendered. I can't can't seem to find the setting on my cap to do that anyone know where it is? Or is it possible.
By the way I think the cap smokes the Evo, it is much faster and the size is just right. Also the Evo was a typical HTC very ambitious but the execution was not there.

no question is dumb as long as you sincerly need an answer. ive had similar bad experiences with my fuze. But then again i dont feel that it would be fair for me to judge htc by its fuze. It was such a fail in my eyes.
But anyway, are you using the default browser? If you are there should be a setting for desktop view. If its already on then its the webpages fault for trying to be too smart. Write them an email. In the meantime you can try an alternate browser form the app market. I hear dolphin and some other ones are pretty popular. Good luck.

iphone finger menu scrolling

Basically I wasn't overly impressed when I saw the iphone in terms of what it did, because it doesn't do anything my WM5 doesn't. the only thing I was impressed at was the interface, the total touch screen etc(altho it is missing a qwerty key board which I couldn't live with out). One part of the touch screen interface that I was the most impressed with was the finger dragging, scrolling! But this can be done on WM5 devices because I've already downloaded Sygic's .mobile which allows you to do it through your contacts.
So Basically I'm sure that one of the many clever programmers on here could write a little program that allows you to use finger scrolling where ever a scroll bar is needed? I.e. file emplorer, music menu(windows media player), text message list, photos, etc.
Or if someone knows where I could get such a program from?
Thanks
this would be sweet because we windows fans wouldn't have to convert to the darkside.
just like the early dayds of apple.....microsoft swoops in and reinvents the game. but only thing it aint microsoft doing this.
why buy a new phone when u can take the guts of it and dump it into your own
good job on the programers you guys rock.
Check this video out, the guy has done just that!
http://techdigest.tv/2007/02/watch_the_iphon.html
I've seen that video already, but thanks. it was that and the program .mobile that made me hope that someone on here would be able to do it for the rest of the windows mobile platform! if I was talented enough I'd do it myself but this is way beyond me. i just think it would be a great to be able to navigate menus and list and make life a lot easier.
Can we download it from somewhere?
Download What?
that GUI seen on that video.
the best program to make it look like that is wisbar desktop but it costs! has for the menu scrolling i haven't got a clue thats why i was hoping someone may be able to write a program on here for it

Agree, i used the wisbar advance, but the scrolling gui was amazing!
I am wondering how he did it?
it was, but i don't know how he did it! i know you can down load a program called .mobile and that allows you to scroll through your contact like that, so it clearly can be done! so someone must be able to do it for the rest of the phone?!??!
What is it that can or can't be done guys?
Picsel Browser uses momentum based full screen drag scrolling, amongst other apps. It's not a difficult thing to do. The implementation in the video is particularly nice (if not particularly useful IMHO), but it's not some kind of mystical voodoo. It's just programming.
V
vijay,
I don't think you would be capable of doing this, no way....
(ps: please, please rise to the challenge!)
On a serious note the Universal lacks a scroll wheel which I have always had on my previous PDAs. To be able to have a generic touchscreen based scrolling mechanism would be very useful (ie not just for tracks and contacts, but for everything).
Can anyone post a link to the download of this?
slider lock feature.....
Guys,
According to his website, before it was suspended...
He says he was using
PPL1.20. PPL which can be downloaded for free from http://arianesoft.ca
I downoaded this but have no idea on how to use it to get the same results?
Anyone interested in getting the slider lock portion of that video working?

As explained by Vijay this is just programming. If you dont have programming skills, just forget it. If you do then the technical part is not that difficult. The whole point is more about doinga nice design
Anyway let's hope he will make is work public (The scrolling bar is one thing, but the whole setup is actually nice...)
If anyone has this (doubt the guy gave it out before he got shut down) but in case he did... i would like to get my hands on this...
the point of me starting this thread was to see if anyone on here knew where I could get a program that would allow me to scroll all the menus and lists in my WM5 by dragging my finger across the screen, if there wasn't already a program out there then I wondered if someone could write a program for it? as my skills in this area are nowhere near good enough! I think a program like this with look great but more importantly be really useful, as I use my finger to navigate through most of my phone.
if this is just programing, please can someone with the skills do it????
Thanks
the m600-iphone clon demovideo is no longer available at youtube....
the apple tentacles are very lengths...
INTERESTINGLY.. this guy is a Malaysian (Chinese). . and I would have thought such geeky move ought to be from the States.
well i have a spare wizard to try this on if some one can direct me on what software to use. i have some spare time lol

I second that. I've been looking everywhere. But I can't find anything that intuitive. Has anyone found any program like that?
The only thing is the Picsel Browser. But the problem with that is you can't view all the files in a folder and go to the next picture easily. But you can zoom in and move around like iPhone.
Please anyone knows one let us know.
i heard resco is the only program close enough
It is an other option I guess
and freeware
http://www.pocketpcfreeware.com/fr/index.php?soft=368
and this one too
http://www.pocketpcfreeware.com/fr/index.php?soft=877
i dont know of any picture viewer that scales and zooms like the iphone with two fingers, but i use xnview, its free, opens other picture files resco cant, etc etc.
I've been looking through this forum and google, but still haven't found anything alike...
Is there anyone that's been able to develope something like it?
Thanks!
google something call iZoom , its not available yet, but would be a nice substitute
Doesn't HTC Album work a bit like the iPhone thing? I've never tried it because it won't run on my 9502, but apparently it works on a lot of devices and its freeware. You push the image to the side for the next image, and draw a circle around a bit to zoom in and stuff. Looks really cool. Wish it ran on my device

try VITO EyePhoto.
I like it very much and it's intention is clearly to bring iPhone usage principles to WM.
yes htc album is simple and efficient. easy to use.
but you should search better and sometimes look in the dev & hack section of xda and you could find this :

Windows Mobile Web Browsers

Hi people,
I know of pocket explorer, and the opera release, but is there any other webbrowsers out there that are any good?
What i am looking for is something like the iphones safari. That would be nice
Pocket Explorer
Opera
Deepfish - damn shame this was never continued!
Cheers
Opera have 2 releases, you didn't mention which one you have. Opera Mobile is one of them but its not free, its good for tabbed browsing and downloads but personally i can't get along with it as it runs slow on my handset and often has script errors, plus struggles with desktop pages and uses alot of data. Opera Mini is the other one and i personally think its amazing. You can load up full web pages quickly and easily and it allows you to zoom in and out of the pages so you can view them like you would on your desktop. It uses very low amounts of data so its cheap to use, plus its free to download.
I personally use opera on my handset as it works well with windows, its the best thing so far anyway.
If your thinking of something more along the lines of the safari (iphone) experience, there is nothing at this time that matches it exactly, but there are similar programs you can get hold of that have been around a little while like Picsel Browser. Which can load up full pages (but cost you alot of data), and renders the pages pretty well, plus you can scroll with your finger and zoom in and out of pages without a stylus. I used to use this browser but i'm now totally hooked on Opera Mini.
I'm sure there are some other browsers out there but these two i mentioned are the only 2 i consider worth mentioning.
PS. Deepfish is similar to Opera mini, its optimises pages server side to make them smaller (data wise anyway), but i think opera have stollen the game from microsoft, thus them stopping any more work on the project, from what we can see anyway!
Hope this all helps btw

Personally I don't use opera mini, because it doesn't come for the htc p4350, i can run the generic, but I have to startup java first, then opera, and with every text area (including adress) it opens a new typing window..

That's the same way it works on my wing. However, as I'm browsing from a phone, I really don't have the highest of expectations for my browsing experience, and all things considered, opera mini is the best option I've found thus far.

Look for Picsel browser, it works almost exactly as the iPhone safari, the zoom, the kinetic scrolling, all that stuff. Execpt it's made for only samsung phones so they don't make it availible for everybody. I have aa copy, but i don't think i can post it here. Type it in google, there a lot of them there. That's where i found mine. And by the way Picsel dosent just view web pages, it also views pictures, word, excel, pdf and powerpoint. Goodluck

Ever thought about the FTX browser or Webby?
well..guys i got the file..but havent test it yet..well..atleast not yet..lolz jus typed in Picsel Browser 1.0.5 download..nd got it ;D
I tried Piscel and it was very snazzy, however, it does have some site limitations so it looks like the pay version of opera is the way to go.

Video of a page loading on Opera?

Does anyone have a video of a Fuze loading a relatively complicated page such as CNET.com, Ign.com, or Engadget.com on ATT's 3G or Hsdpa network? I just want to compare the loading times compared to my own fuze thanks..
is yours slow on the net? cause mine is painfully slow. my old tmo wing is faster, easy.
I could make a video of my Fuze loading Engadget but I use MyMobile software for screencaps/videos and it limits FPS so you can't get a true recording of its speed. Engadget loads fairly quick on ATT 3G HSxPA, using Opera 2808 on a cooked ROM.
I guess you're looking for a recording by a separate camera?
As long as its not fast fowarded or skipped its not important how it was recorded
Opera simply SUCKS! Such an awful internet experience.. Especially when you scroll, you can hit accidentaly links and you just don't know about it .. another annoying thing is the focus losing when draggin while the page is still loading.
Bleah.. opera is just an over-hyped piece of crap. (i really wanted to say nice words about opera.. but I really can't)
Try Opera Mini on large sites, way better..
If you want, I can record you a video but I'm using Orange 3G and I'm from Romania.
I was playing around with the ol' tilt and decided to check out the internet speed and the difference was dramatic. It took my tilt less than half the time to load a page than my fuze. I used activesync to connect to the internet on both the phones.
The version of Opera on my Tilt just seemed faster in every way (loading pages, opening up the favorites, scrolling through them) I think that the VGA version of Opera is just poorly written. Unless maybe, the Fuze has bigger problems than just GPS lag....
Slightly off topic but one really frustratingly big thing that annoys me about Opera Mobile 9.5 is that it does not remember page scroll positions in its history and *especially* when opening new pages. For example, when you open a link that is down the bottom of the page, the new page will open scrolled down relative to the bottom - what use is that? Same things occurs when going through the page history - it doesn't remember where you were on a previous page and uses the last scroll position. I just can't understand how that can be classed as a usable feature? Apart from that major frustrating annoyance, I don't mind it as a mobile browser, as I really like the fullscreen mode.
Off topic I know but it is a big consideration when choosing Opera Mobile.
Opera-mini IS much faster than 9.5. Skyfire loads much faster (but is very rough looking) than 9.5 also, on my Fuze anyway.
Glad to see this post. I was wondering if it was my phone.

[Q] IE9 Not Showing Comments on Gawker Sites

I have trawled the interwebs extensively as well as this site, but haven't found anyone else experiencing this:
I have the Samsung Focus S and it's a great phone, but IE9 is a little ropey... When I visit any of the Gawker mobile sites, Gizmodo, Lifehacker, Gawker, etc... I cannot see/read ANY of the comments.
Flip back to my HTC Desire Android phone and I am able to see them. Does anyone know what's going on here? I can't be the only one out there to experience this.
It is really annoying because I use those sites quite a lot... any help would be much appreciated.
You could try switching the phone between the mobile and desktop user-agents (it's under Settings -> Internet Explorer). Desktop mode *should* give you the same experience as on a PC, except for Flash of course.
Yeah, that does in fact work fine. I suppose I'm just keen to have the issue resolved for the mobile site so that I don't have to flick around the whole page to see all the content (if that makes sense?)
So thank you, but I guess I'm still looking for an answer :-|
Changing the "mode" has no impact on the browser itself. The server is sending you code that doesn't include the comments when you use the Mobile user-agent string.
Hey GoodDayToDie,
Thanks for this tip, I'll give it a go and report back.
