most apps put notifications in the notification bar - IMO, the notification bar is superior to anything the iPhone does. Even with a PIN Lock, I can see icons telling me i have notificationas and which kind - SMS, IM, eMail, Skype, etc. All have their own icon, so for me this works better then a single notification app.
Most apps, have their own settings to allow notifications.
I too was looking for this, but now prefer the notification bar system. The popups are annoying, and only useful when using the phone if at all.
Handscent SMS has popups and quick reply if you really want to try that.
Im also using apps the nag me that their is a notification. Handscent does this, and im still dealing with how to do it for calendar. TouchWiz and Google's calendar apps really lack the features.
I jailbroke my phone mainly for notification bar icons. I want to know if i get something without having to swipe to unlock and then enter a PIN. I should be able to see that stuff from the lock screen.
try NoLED from the market place. It's free and pretty useful. When your phone is in sleep mode, it will show an icon of whatever notification you get (e.g. a mail icon for message, or cassette for voicemail)
It also keeps the background black to save battery! Very customizable, and I highly recommend it
Hey.
Why are there no silent, gps, wifi, etc buttons in notification bar?
I believe because its pure stock UI
anyway to put them there? like app or something?
Just wait a bit for Cyanogen and crew to get CM 7 working.
yes you can lookup power control widget in market
use the power control widget that comes stock
Widgetsoid 2.x
You can also use Widgetsoid 2.x from the market to have it appear in the notifications drop down. Make sure you set it to open popup though. Otherwise, it won't do anything.

1+ Notification Toggle
Works like a champ. Doesn't really work as well as CM7 but fits the bill.
When I receive a text message, the screen turns on for 5 seconds to show it and then turns off. I receive a lot of notifications and this is draining my battery. How can I disable it?
Open text message app, this is for stock app and Rom.
Hit menu key. Select settings, Goto the bottom of page, unchecked show text on status bar.
Hope that helps.

Ok. Looked and tried all kinds of things. I have the Droid bionic. its a great phone. for the most part, i love it. But is there any way to put some toggle switches in my notification bar? toggle notifications takes up too much space, and the all in one requires a pop up. Same for widgetsoid. had the incredible with cm7. If i could have something like power control widget right in the task bar that would be perfect. Or miui's toggle setup. is there anything i've missed?
thanks for your time.

I think it's a known gingerbread issue, no word on the Widgetsoid dev as of late... correct me if I'm wrong. I'm using quickdesk, I googled this problem and found a thread from a droidx forum that recommended the app. Just double tap home to bring up a homescreen that goes over your home screen, or any application you are on and you can put any widget or app of your choosing, it's not as easy as the notification pull down, but it's relatively fast to toggle what you need and you're not taking up screen space. Hope this helps.

Hi,
I just downloaded tasker and I can not get the icon in the notification bar to disappear. When i go to menu>prefs there is no media section that i can make the icon transparent. The icon is annoying me. I am rooted running latest miui rom. What should i do?
thanks,
Menu > preferences > monitor > notification icon > choose the top left which is a blank icon

As i stated in the first post, there is no monitor section in the menu. I go to menu>prefs then all i get is Profile List View, Profile List Control, General, and Skin. There is nothing about notifications in the menu.
At the top are ui monitor action misc
Check out this screenshot.

I see. It appears that they are stuck behind the menu and I can not click them. Heres a screen shot. Any ideas how to fix this?
edit:it wont let me post a link to show the screen shot
Let me guess, you're on MIUI? It's a MIUI problem.
The Tasker dev is working on a fix for its next release.
