Hi guys!
I really enjoy the X10 camera, but I think that jpeg compression is too high. I was comparing images captured with Snap Photo and with the bundled camera software to show you how Snap Photo retains a lot more detail, even their maximum resolution it is lot smaller than 8MP. But today I not being able to take pictures larger than 640x480, probably a bug! =\
Anyway, somebody knows a camera software that uses the entire 8mp camera and has better compression settings than original camera software?
If I root my X10, there is a chance to change those compression settings?

Just downloaded the demo version of vignette.. it's reet proper bo I tell thee... Hee. Hee. Shamon..
+1 for Vignette! Its worth the $4 or whatever it is. Even just for the flash support.
Vignette all the way.
reasons being.
Flash Support ON/OFF/AUTO
lower compression photos between 3.5mb and 8mb
(meaning more info in the photos for blown up prints and editing)
higher DPI (original S.E. camra app 72dpi, vignette 96dpi) meaning deeper better images
and many many effects.
although i thought the processing time for photos was annoying but you can just take photos and lock ur phone and it will finish up in sleep mode.
definitely worth the money.
examples of photos taken with vignette, not retouched, just using vignette setting and effects and original size
http://img375.imageshack.us/g/20100710160347439.jpg/
taken for experiments. got more and i have comparison pix to compae Vignette and original S.E. camera app.
upload tomorrow.
can email if wanted, pm me

How do you used the x10's full 8mp on Vignette, it seems to only go up to 3.1mp?
Thanks
If you have the latest version, 2010-07-06.4, there's a button on the screen that gives you instant access, where the largest file size under JPEG file settings is listed as "X - 8.0 megapixels".
Older versions only go up to 3.1MP.
Ok thanks, ill purchase an update.

Like somebody else said... if you take picture of rocks ... yes, true.
For anything else is too slow. Till it saves the first image the moment is gone.
Birds fly, kids run ... and so on...

A while ago, I sent an email to the developer of the 'JustPictures!' app on the market, about implementing the one-touch zoom method from SE. It is used for photo viewing and streaming (e.g. from Flickr, Picasa etc).
Now he has finally done it - try it out!
http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-justpictures-qBFD.aspx
(It's free, just use the QR Code on androlib, or search for it on the market.)
It works well for me!

Gotta say cool app.. thanx alot.. helps alot considering I got rid of mediascape lolz

With Meridian replacing the audio player, RockPlayer replacing video player(beta now, won`t be free i assume) and this app for images, there is no need for Mediascape anymore.
Even so, this app needs improvments:
1. why do i have to double tap the image before using the zooming function
2. where is the delete function?
3. together with exclude folders it might be nice to have an option to exclude everything and include only a few folders.
4. provide a progress bar or some kind of counter to know how many thumbnails were generated and how many are left.
..
and probably more.
it does not show full screen pictures
haptic feedback would be good too - I recall SE demo giving a little vibrate on the long press to let you know that it was ready to zoom in/out.. and the zoom in only seems to go so far.. then when you zoom beyond that it bounces back out to a lower zoom level..
Don't get me wrong though.. it's a great app.. a few tweaks as suggested in this thread and it would be my preferred photo viewer.
looks good, but setting a picture as wallpaper goes horribly wrong.
It just shows a small picture in the middle of your screen, but most of your screen is black...It resizes your photo's to real small images unfortunately...
Cheers,
Arnold
yeh the zoom is a great improvement over the original zoom buttons but you cant pan around while your zooming that's the only issue I have
One of my favorite app as I have plenty of pictures on smugmug and flickr. This app seems to get updates almost every week or even more frequently which is good .
Awsome App
nice !!
Dear all members,
I notice that default camera app cannot have timestamp with date when you take photo.
I have also tried out Vignette and find it better than the stock camera app as it has the auto flash function.
Anyone know whether these is better camera apps?

I've tried most of the other camera apps and ended up buying Vignette. It is one of the few that takes full 8mp photos, the focusing works correctly, and it saves the images to the SDcard\DCIM folder.
Camera360 was okay, but I found the photos weren't up to par detail-wise, and I didn't like the interface so much.
I still use the SE Camera app for video.

I want a camera app where i can control ISO speed
You and others are asking too much out of a phone. Go get a digital camera, better convenience.
Sorry in advance if my words are harsh to bear.

What he said
I wonder if it's possible to read the ISO, shutter etc from the camera. I'm guessing the API abstracts and hides these settings; or perhaps Sony restrict them from being set.
Obviously the aperture is fixed (f2.8) for this type of camera lens.
I've noticed that the ISO is often increased to ISO1000 when it doesn't seem to be necessary. And at other times, the camera selects a very slow shutter speed (1/8sec) when it should increase the ISO, to prevent blurring.

Vingette doesnt allow zoom in 8mp which completely ruined the program for me.... it focuses on one point rather than zoom the full image. is this a known issue with the ap or is it just me?

When you actually take the photo it should look the same as default camera. That's sort of how digital zoom works. I'm failing to be able to describe it properly though

Does anyone know a camera app that uses the full screen of the tab?
With the integrated camera app not using autofocus it is mostly useless to me since i cant read any text i photograph.
I tried several other apps. They all use the autofocus and it works great, but they dont utilize the full screen of the tab.
The camera app in JM6 features touch-to-focus, and I have no problems making photos of text. Maybe i could post the apk + odex files, for testing on stock firmware.
Yes, the app works fine, its me that didnt function correctly.
You just have to hold the button down, it will autofocus and beep when done.
Thanks very much for thay info now alsi i Focus.

Another strong user of Vignette here.
I posted a topic on the use of Vignette over the stock camera App.
Vignette has so much more to offer and one special mention has to go with 'Zoom'. As you all know the default camera has no zoom but id you use Vignette it uses a very clever 'live crop' tool that works very much like a zoom.
An added benefit is you get to see the surrounding area you are cropping out of the shot..... AND the shot taken is so, so much better than the default camera App.
Much greater detail, cleaner, sharper focus and better colours.
Next is the settings..... there is an absolute MAMMOTH of settings to choose from.
I have one customized that gives me an 'ND Filter' at a touch of a button.
In my experience, if you're looking for the most options & filters, then Vignette is the way to go. But if you're looking to take the best possible "normal" photos, Camera360 is tops for that.
I don't know what it is, but Camera360 shots ALWAYS are clearer & much more detailed/cleaner looking in comparison shots against Vignette.

I must confess, although I have great admiration for Vignette, Camera360 Ultimate definitely does have some very good settings.
Of particular value I find the 'Tilt-Shift' to be fantastic. I also like the focus settings with it's 'Manual Focus' where you can focus on a subject then move the camera to another subject to throw the focus out.
So, my recommendation for photography would be Vignette & Camera360 Ultimate for taking the shot and Picsay Pro to post edit for even better image processed results.
Hi
I tried to take a photo for a white wall with flash in dark room.
What made me feel bad with google camera app is there are two area divided on the photo shown in the attachment
Meanwhile, the stock camera app was just fine as normal.
I'm using opo 64g with blisspop 1.4, any idea?
Thanks
I've never liked the Google Camera anyway, the stock one is as good as can be for normal users anyway.

Bro, you should never attach you're emotional well being to a camera app. You can never give a truly objective GPlay Store review if you do this. I would think that by hanging your emotions on a camera app would just be a determinant to your health in general.
It's a known issue when you make photos with flashlight with the Google Camera.
You can turn off the flashlight...
After many camera app testings, Camera FV5 rocks. Of course full version.
Even had problems with stock camera, got pixelated lines when i recorded video.
In FV5 no problems.
Good luck.
Selfio is a unique app with a patented idea of using front cam of your device to frame and back cam to shoot the same image.
Frame your selfie using front cam.
Flip such that back cam faces you
Device senses flip and shoots your selfie in HD with flash if needed.
It is available on play store now and will soon be available on app store too. Please download and tell me what you guys think. It uses magnetometer to sense flipping. Working on gyro sensing now.
Nice app but most of the time the delay is very long and picture gets blurred by moving the device. There should be a help section or tutorial.
nice
Great app work but sometime fails to give hd image.Quality is not too fine,,as it delays while capturing image.
Thank you guys

Anand, have you tried setting resolution to maximum inside the settings? also, can you share what device you are using? Because we are aware of a bug on Nexus 5 and a few other devices and we are fixing it with next update.

Thahim, thank you for your comments. Can you let me know what device you tried it on? Also, help is inside the settings gear. We are trying to design a better design for the tutorials.
