hi guys.
i appologise if this has already been done but i'm female and blonde and always nedd idiots guide to do things. soon i'm getting a x10 second hand. can't wait. played with it and loved it. the only thing i'm not keen on is the text imput of qwerty keyboard. i prefer the bog standard phone one. have seen the htc_ime.apk download but was told by carphone warehouse this would not work due to theoftware. to be honest i'd rather take the advise of you guys as you know more about what your doing. my phone is unlocked but prob not rooted and don't want to root it as more likely to stuff it up with being blonde asnd all.can anyone help me as want to be prepared for when it arrives early next week.

I have trouble too. I think they design them for nimble fingered kids. For me the android keypad is awefull, i use the se one which easier. Not to worry, and welcome to the site

totally agree. don't exactly have fat fingers but so use to the old way. had x1 and managed to get the blackstone keypad which was great. but also told by carphone warehouse this would not work. was told there was some kind of text bundle app that had loads of choices of all sorts but can't find that either. thanks this is a great site and will enjoy using it. learning lots already. hopefully will soon be a competent blonde female.
Yes, it is too small for me too. I use HTC keypad and only used to the phone keypad and not Qwerty keypad.

Install the HTC_ime, as the guy at CPW doesn'#t know what he's talking about. Runs perfect on mine.
that's what i thought when he said it. it actually suggests it on a sony website. and great they even have step by step instructions. all a bit premature as still won't have phone til tues, but v v v v excited, can't wait and want to be prepared. thanks.

Personally, i dislike swype and htc_ime keyboards... The one im using it and which i love it is the Swift Key Beta from the market and its free
i love it. perfect for big hands like mine
do give it a try.
but if u still wana use swype here it is the .apk attached

i see alot about this handsent. its actually a free app on android market but is it any good? seems to do everything bar putting the kettle on.
i personally use the htc keyboard. tried swype and didnt like it. The stock android keyboard is okay, a lot better then SE's version of it.
Hey, when i downloaded the .apk and uploaded it and installed it on my phone using FileManager, i cant see the Swype app anywhere on my phone. Any suggestions?

Go to Prefences and then scroll down until you se Search and click that above Search i dont know how its Named in English maybe Local and Text or somthing like that becouse my X10 is English and then you can select Swype then go to a SMS and click on Write and when the Keyboard is showing hold the left Button down named 12 or something like that then a Window opens then select input Method and then Swype. Sorry for my English i am from Austria and i forgot couple Words so i picked Google Translate for the Words that i forgot.
In my opinion, Swype is probably the best when it comes to typing things quick (I've gotten really use to it and I love it!).
...But it does lag once in a while...

my cousin just showed me this app for the iphone called hey tell. its a voicemail text app, instead of texting you say a brief sentence and sending like atext and its just as fast as a regular text.also they can do the same. just wanted to know if they have a similar app for the hd 2.
I'm not familiar with hey tell, but Android has voice to text throughout the OS. You can voice to text SMS. Voice to text searches, etc. Of course it goes the other way too with text to voice so that it speaks turn by turn directions.
Android on the HD2 is getting very stable and useable now. It's been my primary OS for many weeks now.

This can crash your phone so install latest microsoft voice command MSVC, it worked on and off for me so gave it the flick but others give it the thumbs up so each to their own.
I dont recomment using that app, can really brick your phone.

Thanx willgill but i never really messed android on my hd2, too scared to mess it up lol. I just did little things like cht sense 2.5, and cht editor. I've been wanting to try to install android but I dont know where to begin, and I dont wanna mess up my phone.
As for the Tellme app, thanx guyz but not really like the heytell app. this is almost like nextel push to talk. Thank you guys for your advice. As for android lol when i get comfortable. Sorry I had a link from youtube, but they didnt allow me to post it because

Dude man up already! If you can do cht you can do android with your eyes closed. Its really not that hard and because it runs from your sd card there's really nothing that can brick your phone. Once you go android you will not give WinMo a second thought. Trust me. The latest builds of droid are just as if not more stable than my WinMo setup. Battery drain is the only issue for me right now (it's not really that bad but it's not quite as good as WinMo atm) but once we get a nand version this should get better.

lol can you help a fellow user to the right direction of where to begin. So atleast ill see the process of how to begin. I am insterested in trying out android, would invite the challenge, and probably could do it with my eyes closed. Again thank you

Android isn't that hard, as long as you know how to hspl unlock your phone, flash a custom ROM and a proper radio. Nothing to it at all for a noob....
Maybe that's why we NEVER see threads that start "help me, I think I bricked my phone!!!"

it worked for me on some ROMs and not on others. depended on what custom or stock ROM I was using at the time.

I found out howto put android on my phone, out is simple its like updating your rom from tmobile. so im going to try that when I get home, hopefully nothing happens to my phone. I already downloaded everything I need, so wish me good luck guy s, thanx allod your for your help and advice.

my main issue with this is the GPS...
and IOS seems to be more composed...

I got the infuse coming from 3GS, my plan was if the infuse did not work out go to the iphone 4.
But everything is looking good for me on the infuse. If the next iphone does have a bigger screen i will switch to it right away. iOS is just too smooth to compare.
I really really love android...

no. some settings that im supposed to change to see if my GPS works better.
Did u look in the captivate section AMD try what they use. Also if u do bring it back ask if they can let u try another on. go out side and test GPS rite then and there...u may just have a bad unit.

I have owned both, I prefer the infuse.
I had the iPhone 4 for almost a month...it was nice, but very limited unless jailbroken. I switched to Android and didn't look back! I got the Infuse today and I don't seem to have gps issues. It doesn't connect instantly but it's pretty damn close to my position even though I'm inside my house.
I am also an iphone convert...iphone is a great platform with its own perks. But i prefer android, there is alot more options for customizing and functionality, however my personal experience has been that android is a bit more buggy than ios. Of course with a few tweeks here and there android can be fixed right up....ios just works.
There is also the issue of software updates, not all android devices get software updates, when apple rolls out an update everyone gets it. Its really an issue of personal preference. To me the androids pros outweigh the cons

I've been playing around lbs test and some good settings would be very useful. Does anybody have a link to what's best, or one of the people who say they get a 10m lock in seconds want to share their settings?
I am also coming from a 3GS. There is definitely more tweaking to get stuff the way you want. I wouldn't downplay the customizability of the iPhone after you jailbreak though. I also still have found good substitutes for tlert and intelliscreen. Over all I like the phone, and I think the 4g is worth it, although if I wasn't on xda and competent with technology I wouldn't recommend it.

he said a rep from lg came in and said all the phones with a dw under the batt came from one factory and the screen is known to bleed and the dwp was the newer model phone made after they fixed there f up.....and made the new ones in a diffrent factory...............

Doubt it, because several users received DWP models... They were refurbs.

My brothers myt4g had the 2.3.4 update I think a few months ago... And WE with the newer "FIRST DUAL CORE PROCESSOR PHONE" get 2.3.3 .... What the hells up with that... And this phone has all kinds of bugs... I'm on my second phone, while it is better than the first still has screen bleed at the top corners, reception is buggy all the time stock or custom ... but just got tired of arguing with tmo.

You should consider yourself lucky. No other 2X variant worldwide has received Gingerbread yet. They are still stuck on Froyo.
Hope you enjoy it, because I have been on 2.3.7 for the past three weeks. The only updates that I need to know about now are from the CyanogenMod team.

Not to add fuel to the fire, but it's really hard to take a post seriously when spelling and grammar are SO screwed up that I feel like I'm reading a combination of leetspeak/English second language/verbal diahrea. is there anyway to boost wifi reception on the shift? a lil bit of background info i just got my replacement shift back from sprint and rooted it thenks to indirects write upand prboy1969's help. but after rooting i have experienced horrible wifi range i have to be about five feet away from the box to have excellent strength but if im about 15-20 feet away it says poor and i have to have the shift pointed directly at the wifi modem. any help is greatly appreciated. thanks in advance

Yea sorry wrong choice of words the 1% mod that you linked from the uot kitchen i think it was. Honestly i think it is the phone because before i got it replaced the old shift i had had great range on it but i think im going to unroot and check it again and see if it works on stock. If not ill be calling sprint on monday.

My replacement Shift has horrible Wifi reception also right now. Did you unroot and check to see if it's better on stock?
I know you probably already did this stuff. But did make sure nothing is blocking the signal coming from your Router ? I know that on my house soemone always wants to try and tuck the Router back behind something, or put something on top of it. Because it's Ugly. Also Routers give off a better signal when they're not on the floor. Did you go into Menu-Settings-Wireless & networks-Wi-Fi settings-menu-Advanced , and make sure you have Best Wi-Fi performance checked off ? Then Menu-Save.
Hey sorry I didn't reply sooner it was a problem with the phone so I had to get another one but to my surprise they didn't have anymore shifts. I had a choice between a referbed epic the old one with the keyboard or a new in box EVO 3d so I went with the 3d. So sadly I won't be around the forums much anymore

Good choice but the only issue with the lastest EVO 3D is the newer hboot that has to be unlocked using the htc tool. It seems HTC is making it harder and harder to get S-OFF bootloaders

I had a choice between a referbed epic the old one with the keyboard or a new in box EVO 3d so I went with the 3d. So sadly I won't be around the forums much anymore

Well you choose well, if those were your only choices. But it kinda sucks as far as the way your going to have to use to gain root. But have fun with the new phone .

Did you get a white 3d or a black 3d? If they gave you a white one they screwed you... The white evo3d went e.o.l. the same day the shift did...
