SD Card Permissions - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hi all.
I'm not really sure if this is the right place to put this, but it's driving me right crazy. Here's some background:
I have a G2 Touch (Hero) on T-Mobile.
I was running T-Mobile Android 1.5 on it, build 2.73.
A while back I did the goldcard thing, but never updated the ROM, as I heard a rumour that 2.1 was coming soon enough.
I got the "prep" update for 2.1, which broke my phone (hazard triangle screen). I read on forums that I needed to reflash the T-Mobile ROM and then it would work fine.
I took a ROM I'd downloaded which I thought was the T-Mobile ROM... you can see where this is heading... I have no idea what ROM it was or where I got it from, but it was probably one I'd downloaded in the goldcard setup.
Anyway, the mystery ROM loaded fine, as did the prep update. I then got the 2.1 update, which also loaded fine.
There's the history - I'll apologise now for that.
Currently my phone is running as follows:
Firmware version: 2.1-update1
Baseband version: 63.18.55.06PU_6.35.15.11
Kernel version: 2.6.29-063c4d24 [email protected] #1
Build number: 3.32.405.1 CL191507 release-keys
And so to the problem:
Since updating, I seem to have no permission on my phone to write/delete files. For example, putting an ebook file into the books folder of my sdcard just won't let me. I can do it via my PC using the sdcard as a drive, but I need to be able to do it on my phone so the book reader picks it up.
Can anyone help with my stupidity?

Try NVFlash with CWM
Hello
I have started changing my GTab, which I purchased in May from TigerD.
Here are my specifics:
Model: UPC300-2.2
Android OS Version: 2.2
Tap UI: 1.2-4349
Kernel: 2.6.32.9-000001-q0e0C333-dirty
Build FRS91
I'd just like to drop a note and let people know who are having difficulty installing CWM on their tab.
I could not get it to install. There was an error, which I can't remember what it was; when I attempted to install the software from my external SD Card.
I didn't disable the tab as it would always boot and I was trying both internal and external with no results. (Update was always ignored).
Actually I may have tried installing the internal from the external and got my self into a mess.
Anyways if you have difficulty; just follow this URL and you'll not only get back your original install but also CWM.
viewsonic-gtablet-for-dummies.webs.com nvflash.htm
Just follow the instructions and you should be okay. Now I'm off to look at new ROMS.
Appreciate the work on this everyone. I wouldn't have purchased this product if this information was not around.
Regards Al

[Q] One last request for help updating

Ok, so, I'm now officially out of ideas. I simply cannot get this thing updated to 3.2. Here's my current details, everything stock:
Model number: TF101
Android version: 3.1
GPS Version: V1.3.2
Wifi version: V5.150
Bluetooth: V6.17
Kernel: [email protected]#1
Build: HMJ37.US_epad-8.4.4.11-20110711
No OTA to 3.2, and downloading the update from Asus's ftp site and trying to run it (turn off, hold power and volume down, followed by volume up to enter recovery mode) doesn't work - I get the exclamation mark right away. Tried renaming it to EP101_SDUPDATE, that didn't work either. Tried both the US and WW versions (even though it's the US version I have) and nada, nothing. Tried putting the file into the root of the SD card, didn't work, into the update folder, didn't work, into the root of the internal memory, didn't work.
Am I doing anything wrong, or is there just something wrong with my device?
I think it needs to be on a microsd card to install
Personally I wouldn't waste my time. I see more harm than good from the update. Now I can't even type a simple reply on this site using the default or Dolphin browser. In the text box sometime I cannot backspace to delete characters. You can't open browser short cut from you desktop without rotating the screen after every shutdown. Hopefully Asus will fix some of these issues. If these promblem occur with all Honeycomb devices the Google needs to pull their heads out of there asses.
Don't waste your time with stock 3.2. I'm running Prime1.7 and for me it's much better and malso more stable.
can you root it nd get it by using CWM ?
or do you really want your TF complete original?

[Q] Need Hastarin 7.2 Kernel for SD build!

MY QUESTION:
Can anyone help me backdate my Hastarin r8.5.1 kernel to Hastarin r7.2 on my current rom?(Rom details below.)
I feel like I've tried everything, but I think I need an official kernel update with the proper system files(like w/ root files, kernel updater, zImage, etc). If needed, I can supply any files for the 7.2 kernel that I got from another rom package(also listed below). I've already attached the zImage file from it, although I'm not sure how helpful it might be.
THE DETAILS:
So, you're probably asking yourself, "Why 7.2?" Good question.
Well, first I should say, I've used many different Android builds on my HTC HD2 over the last year & with them I've tried many different kernels. I'm currently using this Sense 3.5, Android 2.3.5, v. 7.0, sd build by Boxmax here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1256423...because I like the function & look of the HTC Sensation XL. The SD build version of the rom comes packed with the Tytung r14 kernel, but it is really laggy. I've tried many other versions of Tytung on the build, as well as many other kernels uploaded to the thread, including Hastarin r8.5.1 & r8.6 because I had read that the Hastarin kernels were still the best for SD roms & I would have to agree, but they still lag a bit as well.
Ironically, the fastest Android build I've tried so far, out of all of them, was one called Mdeejay FroYo Sense v.3.0a. It was Android 2.2.1 & came bundled with the hastarin r7.2 kernel. It worked perfectly from the beginning and never lagged. I originally found the rom here: http://www.jayceooi.com/2010/10/14/download-mdeejay-froyo-sense-2-2-1-frg83-android-rom-for-htc-hd2/
So, I thought what if I update my Boxmax rom with Hastarin 8.5.1 & then just replace the zImage file in my Android folder with the Hastarin 7.2 kernel from the Mdeejay installation package while in Windows Mobile. I know this isn't the right way to do it, but I wasn't sure how to make an update package for it, so I backed up my original configuration & gave it a shot.
Sure enough though, I powered on Android and the build was FLYING faster than any other Kernel I had previously installed & the Android software info was showing I had the Hastarin r7.2 kernel. However, everything seemed to be working perfectly except for the camera. It would open without error & seemingly had all the functionality, except there was no preview of the picture in the display & it wouldn't take a picture. If I didn't like taking pictures so much with my phone I would have just kept it, but alas I replaced it again with Hastarin 8.5.1. The camera works again now, but of course it's back to lagging again, even after reinstalling the whole rom.
Does anyone have any possible solutions to this by chance? Thank You In Advance For Any Help Or Advice You Can Give!!! Very much appreciated!

Mtk6577 Root, build-120920.ics v13 -problems

Hello all,
I have been a reader of work on here for sometime when needing help with a problem, mainly with mine and my wifes Galaxy mini due to it's low built in memory..
Anyway on to this little problem, I have been toying with the idea of rooting my china import hero h2000+ So over the weekend I started collecting information/bits towards it.
Tried the easier route with unlockroot.com free version that couldn't unlock the shells.
Then tried one from Youtube but there's was a new version (phone wise) using MTKdroidtools v237 That one went though okay and had the super user there then when you reboot it, it was gone.
Then tried, sorry can't remember the person/user but was Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v17. Press one for normal all goes though fine just nother there at the end again.
Then tried Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v18 all the same as the v17 but once rebooted and back on there's a little problem..
It seems that all the apk files have been wiped, but on closer inspection they seem like they are there after managing to install the apk for ES File Explorer so I've managed to in still other apk files to keep me going for the moment But it will not reinstall google play. as I can't get it back to 'as before'. I also noticed that the recovery mode no longer works the screen will come up as if it loading it but just turns off.
In an ideal world I would like to either get back to fully working or rooted & working, but read there a bit difficult to.
Other detail are:
Android Version 4.0.4
Baseband Version: MAUI.11AMD.W12.22.SP.V7,2012/08/20 16:49
Kernal Version: 3.0.13 [email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPT Zed Sept 19 05:06:34 EDT 2012
Build number: 120920.ICS.V13.FWVGA.CN.COM.4P4.MT6628
Also just found that it does not Reboot Recovery from about phone.
Any help or guidance would be very much appreciated :fingers-crossed:
Thanks
Anyone? please.

Eonon GA7153A - ROM install help?

I just installed an Eonon GA7153A. I foolishly purchased it thinking that I wouldn't have to do any customization, but now here I am with a not common manufacturer.
Here's some info I gathered from the unit:
Kernel Version: 3.10.0 [email protected] #1040
Build Number: px5-userdebug 6.0.1 MXC89L user.hct.20170623.215236 test-keys
MCU Version: MTCD_WWW_V2.54e_1
So, where do I get started? It's been forever since I've messed with custom ROMs. It looks like I can just download a Malaysk ROM. I grabbed v3.5 and it contains an update.img file and a couple mtc-launcher files with their own "Copy_To_internal_sd" folder.

Hi..
I have the same unit..
Flash malaysk v2 rom.. as v3 has alot of bugs and 3.5 has no gapps.
You copy the update.img on a fat32 formated sd card
Insert in the gps card slot and a popup will come.
Select wipe data and hit it.
As soon at it finishes it takes a long time at the first boot.. so be patient and dont mess with it.
During the update proccess be careful not to cut power or remove sd.
As for the copy to sd folder... is used for the screensaver to display the vehicle speed..
I have the screensaver disabled and i didnt copy them.
Otherwise you copy them after.. its not mandatory..

Thanks! I was just about to try v3.5.
Will this fix the static/hiss that's always coming over the speakers? Also, are your front and rear speakers switched when you adjust the balance?
Unfortunately the hiss is still there..
Yes i have the same issues.
This is probably mcu or hardware related.
I already have emailed eonon about an mcu update.
If you do too matbe we will have it sooner.
That hiss is really geting on my nerves..
I messaged their rep on the GolfMK6 forum, but I'll be sure to contact their support directly. This thing has so much potential, so hopefully the issues can get ironed out.
Have you tried any of the other ROMs, or is Malaysk's our only option at the moment?
I had tryied 3 diferent roms and spented MANY hours
.. Rooting... trying programs ect...
Malaysk v2 is what seemed the best of all.
I like the unit.. Its fast and responsive.
I hope they can resolve
The issues.
I have a mk6 too !
Had an rns510 before and its like i jumped from the stoneage to life..

They just sent me a new update.zip, but the .rar file has the same date as what came with it. I'm going to try it out just in case. I talked to a friend that installs car electronics (unbeknownst to me) and he recommended staying away from the Chinese units completely. Cheap hardware and they don't QC. I might push for a replacement unit if the firmware doesn't work out, and if that one has issues I'll just scrap the idea of having an Android HU.
I'm being sent a "differential board power cord" to try out to get rid of the hiss.
Hi guys,i just purchased one of this units, and i have some question before flash new rom: does this rom has Optical parking display and AC display? Thanks!
Hello
Got this same unit, dont like the OS, its not very customizable. Cant even change the widgets on the home page for example, simple stuff like that. Anything I can do? Maybe flash a custom ROM that gives me more control over its features?
