Is there any chance that a port of the Nexus One's FRF91 ROM will be made for the Captivate? I think that the Nexus' interface would look good on that big AMOLED display...
Anything's possible. It would just take some work. The nexus one interface is just standard android. There is a thread around about bringing a plain vanilla build to the captivate. Somewhere around here.
Awesome. I'd make it myself if I knew how...
I am helping a friend who is getting a Captivate. I have a Nexus One, and I'd like to let him have the exact same interface (and Froyo)...
Any ROM chefs want to be my hero?
I'm no dev but how possible is a port for the S?
Youd probably have to ask the porters of the english version if they have this phone and plan on pushing it to it.

Does anyone have MIUI experience? Do we know if a MIUI port is in the works? Like MANY more, I am willing to donate for this MASTERPIECE
I am so jealous of my Wife's MyTouch 4G right now! The MIUI Rom just straight poops all over the Nexus S right about now. :-(

Anyone Have any Idea...? Suggestions?

I have no idea. I'm not really a fan of Iphone, I mean MIUI
not trying to hate on MIUI but why buy a nice phone with stock gingerbread if you are going to completely destroy the major reason anyone would get the phone.?
There is a difference between flashing CM7 and MIUI iono just doesnt make sense to me
haha^ your completely right bro
I wasn't going to say anything, but please explain how the MIUI rom "poops" all over the Nexus S? Why do you have a Nexus S?
As an ex MIUI user on the N1 (Launcher pro though - ewwww iPhone UI ) - I'd love to see it on the NS. I'd still buy another NS without a second thought though - amazing phone.
Sorry... I guess I dint word it right. I meant it is amazing as far as the customizations go A lot of cool features on it I would like to see my NS!
As Far as "pooping" all over the Nexus I am only stating this as her Snapdragon is clocked @ 1.8!
Which we will see soon!

The MIUI 12.24 is on my NS now.
Been using MIUI (on my N1 for 2 months).
Have you tried junkdrugglers MIUI theme for ADW launcher on the market? It seems to do decent justice.

12.24 MIUI on NS? Care To Share?

I would like to play with MIUI also
use chrome to translate http://www.miui.com/thread-18522-1-1.html?extra=page=1
in the i9000 it said miui will support both nexus
Yes MIUI is definitely going to support NS as it is the official Google phone like N1. It's just a matter of time.
Was there REALLY a need or use for this thread? I mean, seriously!? It doesn't contribute anything...at all. I hate to be a **** but it surely twists my balls when I see a thread like this. Just wait and see, I'm sure an MIUI ROM will come sooner or later. It's just a matter of time. Have a nice evening .

Threads like this lead to show the interest of a particular ROM or Theme. Without voicing your opinion how can you be heard? That's what makes a community, the openness to share and congregate.

I'm all for people voicing their opinions. However, this thread does not involve voicing any opinion. It is, more or less, an attempt to get someone to port MIUI to the Nexus S. I don't think it, in any way, involves "Themes" or "Apps." Just sayin'! I hope someone does port it just so threads like this cease to exist . That's all from me.

I can't help but getting the feeling that the Nexus S isn't going to be very popular .. The threads in the nexus s subforums aren't what I call busy .. Also development section isn't crowded with enthusiasts .. Is the Nexus S too mainstream and not innovative enough ? I was going to sell my galaxy S to get the nexus s ( aosp and frquent updates) but I have serious doubts. I keep getting the feeling that the nexus s will die a silent death because of the hardwarewise far superior phones coming out now and in the coming months ..
Is my feeling justified or does the nexus s just need some startup time ?
i hope that it dont get mainstream, i dont want a phone which everyone has
You can analyse the market as much as you want, but the NS has a wow factor that can't be defined so easily. However lacking it may be perceived it is just so nice to use and this was apparant to me from the moment I played with a display unit. The end user experience is really nice and I love it for that before anything else. I think this forum is doing fine with plenty of new posts and hacks to choose from. Take MIUI for example.
As for mainstream I agree with eiabea - most people who get a Nexus device aren't mainstream to start with - it obviously will always be a niche device.
don't get me wrong .. I really like the nexus s ( from what i have seen adn read) .. Just need a few extra pushes to ditch my galaxy s and buy the nexus s and was curious about the opion of the people here

That's fine - but the answer to simply whether it will be popular/mainstream doesn't say whether it is the right device for you - there are many factors in answering this. I chose the NS after much deliberation instead of going for much more mainstream devices (including the new dual cores) which are inherently harder to develop for. There will always be wide dev support for the nexus line and so far this has proven to be more than the case for me.
Okay . The reason why I think want the nexus s is : aosp and the fact that it will get os updates early instead of waiting month for the manufacturer to develop the update with some skin I do not want I like to fiddle a lot with my device eg tweaking, finetuning ect etc so that's why I think I should jump on the nexus train

All great and valid reasons - and not related to it being mainstream - go for it you won't regret it
All I gotta say is, "Quality over Quantity." The Nexus phones won't be as popular as regular Android phones because its aimed towards individuals who root their phone and stuff. But Nexus S from the beginning wasn't that popular because people disagreed with the lack of a external SD card.
It is a great phone when you start to use it. Every day you love something more and more about it, I came from a Vibrant to a Nexus S and I don't regret it. Only thing I miss is 720p video decoding. At the moment, I get it with CM7 but no sound is being outputted but it renders smooth.
Once the Nexus S comes out on Sprint I think you will see much more action in the forum.
Hey guys,
I'm looking up for a new phone to buy and after a while digging into I got caught undecided between a Nexus S and an Omnia W. One is Android, other Windows Phone. I had a Galaxy 5 before, using unofficial Cyanogemod 7, and got a little disappointed with Android Gingerbread. Don't know now with ICS. Is it really better? But what I like about Android is the ability to install ROM's and being able to have the newest updates. On the other hand, there's the WP, which I had an oportunity to try for a few minutes, and liked at first, the system is really smooth, fast... Also, the Omnia W has a great battery life. But I just don't know about future updates for the Omnia... Also, I'd like to know about the battery life of Nexus S, someone who has one, could you tell me?
I'd apreciate a lot if someone could help me. Sorry about my english, ha.
Thank's in advanced.
what is the dissappoint things about GB?
I don't understand why people even like winmo7, android is fast moving and more user flexible
I would suggest grabbing either
-Galaxy S (international I9000), Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus
ICS is pretty good but if you don't like GB it is most likely the launcher that is the problem, try using a different launcher until you are happy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Android_Launchers
I personally like ICS & ADW

Honestly, WP 7 seems to be a great platform. Also is Android. And the comment about the Launch, it wasn't it (at least I guess), I used to change between them. The thing was, I used to get a lot force close and this stuff.
Thanks for the reply.
considering WP7 is quite a new contender compared to droid, sooner or later both have their own adv and disadv. As murmur95 stated, Android tends to move faster because of its open source licensing (but not saying other than open source, the rests are bad things, they are good also, but i don't know their advs and disadvs).
If launcher forces close, I think have some issues with compatibility with the ROM, so you can either reflash the ROM and see if it works. ICS is essentially a new version of GB with some modification here and there, and yes. gives more feature, more stability, more speed, more battery saving etc2..so ICS is a very nice addition. That aside, you can simply watch videos, or read people's feedback of both WP or Android, but if you ask me, I favor Android better ^^V
I have tried W7 android and IOS believe me android is the best.

Go ahead and buy one of Google's golden cages...
If you're such a lover of Android why not the latest MOTOROLA DROID which
at least is reasonably independent from Google gimmicks.
With any other device you'll have to ask for permission to, subscribe a compulsory
gmail account, allow google interfering with sundry notifications --
interrupting whatever activitties you may be on the edge of performing, etc.
Samsung machines while undeniably well designed and produced are little
more than advertising enforcers for Google -- see if you can easily get rid of
applications that fulfil your restricting space of internal memory, such as research,
google talk, etc. etc -- unless you're a fan of the said.
I'm inviting you to take notice of a two-posts query and shout for help concerning
one of those marvellous pieces-of-work:«Guidance to Samsung Galaxy Gio (S5660)??»,
and provide me your feed-back abou my issues therein...
Good grief! And i thought that the major manipulative OS was Windows -- I
even changed to linux (ZORIN 5,2 if you care to know) -- and then i went and
spoiled my own move and bought a Galaxy Gio...
I'm sorry if i sound too boring to you (and all).
Greetings and better luck than i had.
N'Rique
Why would you not consider the Galaxy Nexus, the successor to the Nexus S?
I think if that if you like the idea of installing custom roms then going for the nexus s would be a good shout. I believe that Google have been a bit slow rolling out ICS to it officially but this would give you the perfect opportunity to flash the latest versions of it yourself
First, thanks to all for replying.
About the force closes it wasn't only about the Launcher, was about lot of apps. The Galaxy Nexus is twice the price of Nexus S here, so...
What about Nexus S battery life? Has anyone tried this phone?
Thanks.
This is just what I think the future of Nexus Devices should be like.
There's rumors floating there's 5 so the Companies i think are worth building Nexus products are Motorola, Samsung, Htc, Asus, and Google.
The 5 devices should be like:
Motorola
I think that Motorola should make the "The DROID" Phone(yes said just like ringtone)because their hardware and radios are awesome. This should be the Developer's phone. No encrypted bootloader and built completely vanilla. OG Droid enough said.
Samsung
Samsung should continue to make the Galaxy Nexus but gear it more towards everyday "iPhone" people. All they would need to do is bring some Galaxy SIII apps and ideas to a very clean user friendly Ui.
Htc
For Htc, I think they should make the media tablet in a 7" and a 10" variety. They should get some ideas from Motorola and take some Webtop functionality to a Google TV kind of devices. Built for the Netflix lovin, Music playin, Google Q using person lol.
Asus
Asus has the right idea. Imagine using a device made like the Transformer for developing directly with the hardware. Now I don't know if this could be done by making some sort of Dual-Boot Ubuntu/Android tablet. Boot up Ubuntu. Write a Rom or Application and then flash it the the Android side. Load Android and go to town. Plus have that Transformer like ability to dock to a real keyboard with more battery and USB 3.0 ports. So you can really develop anywhere. Even during real time, real world experiences.
Dear Google,
I just wanted to say something to from the bottom of my heart.
Make a Phone please.
I mean like "you" make a phone. Build some hardware. You made a Q, a glowing Ball of media streaming goodness (wish I could afford one lol). You should definitely make a Phone. I even know exactly what it would look like, CR-48 style and all. With the addition of the LED ring from your Q. Let me know if you would like me to draw it for you lol. A Phone manufactured by Google would be Amazing. Thanks and keep up the good work

Samsung and all the others have no say on the software. It is pure AOSP and will never be anything more or less. Alot of us are glad not to have all the crap from the OEM in the roms.
