Can someone turn this into a decent icon? - EVO 4G Themes and Apps

I suck at photoshop and this is the best I can do. I'd like to have decent icon for the EVO I can find icons for the nexus and droid but nothing for the evo.

Whatever you feel like to be honest. I would like to see an icon for the EVO. When I search Nexus/Droids/iPhones

you can easily make an icon from this PSD. just resize to whatever size you want

looks better then what I did but still stretched and un-natural looking

Does it stretch when you set it as the icon?

It's all a mock-up.

Good idea, I think you wanted to make an icon for when you see the EVO in file explorer? If not that's the idea I got out of this and did it.
So when you open file explorer (Windows only) you will see the icon and name of the phone like in the attached picture.
I put the files here for anyone else that might want it.
Unzip the attached zip file to the root (main part of the SD card not in a folder).
There's only two files, one is the .ico file mikevillarroel made (thanks)
the other is a .inf that tells Windows what to show, you can open this in notepad to make sure its safe.

Cheer up. Macs are faster and reliable. Unfortunately they're (the devs who make the apps) aren't.
Also might i suggest, download an app like "SyncMate" kinda like HTC sync for windows. And to get a custom icon, I used "Candy Bar" on my mac.

Look at all these phone icons! Not one for the EVO

I resized the canvas and the icon isn't warped anymore

Htc Binary Clock

I saw the other day on the main page of the forums a Binary Clock for WinMo phones. I wanted it really bad but I have the Hero. So I did the obvious thing... I made one myself. Nothing too fancy just a few tweaks of the standard HtcClockWidget.apk
Huge thanks to Regaw for some troubleshooting tips and to antaed for the great idea.
This one is in black and green but I can change the color to match whatever people want.
Rename the file to HtcClockWidget.apk (caps sensitive) and push to your /system/app folder on phone.
please note this is my first time editing an apk file.

all finished. the original .apk i posted now includes both 2x4 with weather and 1x2 smaller widget.

it replaces but only the flip with the weather and the 1x2 digital not quite sure how to make it an add on yet. maybe someday in the future. also i can make it to one or the other so it doesn't have to be both. (ie Binary flip w/ normal digital or normal flip with Binary digital) so if you don't want it to cover both just let me know and i can make one specifically for you.

if you have android SDK open cmd prompt and go to the tools folder where you have it installed (most likely cd\android-sdk-windows\tools)
plug in your phone and set as charge only
then type adb remount
then adb devices
then ddms
that will open a program
click on your phones serial number and up in the toolbar under device will be screen capture. just make sure your phone screen is on and on the page you want to capture. then save it wherever and post.
pretty simple

[REQ] Small mod to Droid-x KB

The keyboard on the Droid X has been released and modded to work on an EVO, and some other 2.1 devices.
I think it is a great KB, and will use it over the HTC KB, I like the space between each keys, the speed, and the multi-touch.
The KB looks simple and is very easy to type on, in fact it finally has the biggest feature I want on an android KB, it corrects commonly misspelled words, but does not display them, or suggest them. This feature is cool but IMO, adds clutter to typing. For example, when typing "heklo" on the the keyboard, it auto corrects it to "hello" without displaying words or suggesting them like on the HTC and Stock Android KB.
Now, the purpose of the post. The only thing that Would make this KB perfect for me is to change the background color behind the keys to a grey color, I provided an image with something that I would like using Paint.
I have never developed for android and have no idea how to do it, but if someone who knows how to do it, could simply open up the code of the app, and just change the background from white to a grey, that would be awesome.
Many people would prefer it IMO, and it is a better typing experience because the colors are different and the keys are more noticeable, making it easier to type more accurately.
I provided a screen shot to show what I was talking about, and the original .APK of the Droid X KB.
Any help is appreciated.
If someone could point me in the right direction in finding it, I would be more than happy too. I'm looking through it now, if i figure it out......... I will make a black one
Like I said I have no idea how to develop, but tried something out, maybe it can help you.
I use Astro (file explorer) and when I open it I click browse file.
click 5th option=res>drawable-land-hdpi>then down to keyboard_background.9
I copied that to my computer, edited the pic which was originally white, and then changed it to the grey I wanted, I then deleted the original file to the .APK and then copied the version I edited on their and tried to install it.
But when I went to install it, it says application can not be installed.
If someone could explain it to me, I know because I edited a key file in the app, It probobly won't work or install properly, but does the whole .apk have to be refinalized and ready to install with the change I made to install right?

I'll just post the apk. It's weird how the space button is having the shadow stretching thing going on...... maybe someone can lend a hand.
If you already have the multi touch keyboard installed- uninstall-then install this one-go to settings-then uncheck then recheck multi touch keyboard- change input method in text field
Thanks so much, its people like you that make this website what it is.
It's nothing. I realized, while texting someone, that the weird shadow is on the orginal keyboard too

Thanks very much, I used iconverticons.com to change it to a .png to use it on my dock!
I thought I'd share this with you guys.. First off, tnx for the pics (making OR finding and posting here), even though as some said they might be available elsewhere, it's nice to have stuff categorized and placed under a thread somewhere that is applicable to an actual use. And that's why I'm here.. I've a nugget of wisdom to share with ya, inspired to post by reading a recent post about making an icon on his desktop for when the evo is connected.
There's no need for that! The Evo can act just as any Flash/USB device! I was going to post an image, but because I'm new, it won't let me. I'll post the link and maybe a moderator will edit my post and enable/set it to be viewed instead of just clicked on...
h tee tee pea christiankeysmashers.com/_img/evo_in_use.png
To do this, you need to do a couple simple steps.
Fist, use "The Gimp" of your graphic editing tool of choice and open any of the png files in this post, and save as an icon (in Gimp it's as simple as 'save as', and replace png with ico, it'll detect what format you want to use..).
Once you have the .ico file, connect your evo and set it to drive mode. Copy over the icon file to the "root"/main folder (not a rooted phone, just mean the top directory the one all folders are in, nothing fancy/hacked/custom necessary).
Once you've done that, create a new file and call it "autorun.inf". In there, paste the following:
Code:
[autorun]
label=EVO 4G
icon=evo2.ico
Label will of course label the device whatever you want.. icon is the name of the icon you want to have displayed. Autorun.inf file goes to the main folder of the phone as well.
Disconnect (or cycle the mode to charge only, wait for the sd to reinitialize) and then reconnect as a drive once again. You should see your icon and device name/label neatly in place (Note as you can see from my image, this works on all media... I've an icon of my camera on my camera memory, and just about a matching image of every one of my flash drives (just missing one, which is miscolored). Makes it easy and professional to use, and adds a little bling factor to your evo.. If you're all that, you could even take a new pic of your phone so the icon matches whatever wallpaper you use
DO NOTE. There are rules.. Depending on what OS you use.. Sizes must be the same, IE 128x128, or 48x48, NOT 32x48 as one of the png's is.. If that's the case, you'll need to make adjustments to either change the canvas size or cut/paste the actual phone into a newer properly sized image.. The one I used in the example worked flawlessly with simply a png-2-ico "convert" (again, save as .ico)
Hope this help and inspires ya'll out there!

Hi, thanks for the detailed instructions. I've got the phone loading an icns icon on my mac but in trying to get it to work on a PC I followed your directions, however, when I eject the phone and then reconnect it to the PC, the 'autorun.inf' file that I created is gone, the .ico file is there, but not the .inf file, so basically the icon won't show up, it just looks like a regular removable drive icon. Any ideas on why that might be? Thanks.

I had this same problem and fixed it. I had to hook up usb and mount my sd card to the computer. After that, for some weird reason, those other picture files showed up in Gallery.
Give it a try. Should not matter where the files are located on the sd card.

[Q] Where is Wallpapper Gallery app?

Does anyone know the name of the Gallery Wallpaper app that is standard on the X10?
If so can I unpack it and modify it with my own wallpapers, and how?
Any info on this is much appreciated.
The wallpapers are in Launcher.apk
You can overwrite the current wallpaper images but I haven't figured out which file we need to modify to add to new wallpapers.

Well, if it's just for a wallpaper, it's not that bad...
Besides changing the Launcher.apk is much more of a pita.
You have to extract it with ie: WinZip, then find the pictures (in the folder res/drawable), replace them with pictures of the exact same size and type then put the contents back in the apk, then, push it using adb on your mobile. That's kind of a hassle, huh?
Anyway, there is also the Flikie Wallpapers app, which once installed it pops up as an option when you want to change wallpaper, but I don't think it lets you use local files.
Maybe JustPictures! lets you use your local files, but haven't tried it.
(It always impresses me how much people hate Mediascape!
I am not a fan either, but it does not bother me that much!! )

It doesn't actually bother me that much either , but I just like to be able to change my wallpaper in a couple of clicks and I don't want to install an app just for that (I'm a bit picky about what I install both on my PC and my phone).
Also all my wallpaper images are the correct size.
But, you are right, it would be a bit of a hassle to do all of that just to change the default wallpaper images But at the moment I'm updating the apk files all the time, so one more change doesn't make much of a difference

Yeah, I was referring to the other apps mentioned
You also don't have to resize if you use the wallpaper gallery.
Thanks for the fast response. Seems like the xml is encrypted in the launcher.apk. Anyway to decrypt that?

Thanks for this. Worked like a charm!
Gonna have a look in all that xml. Hopefully I'll be able to find out where it is.

I am not a fan either, but it does not bother me that much!! )

Any idea if the two suggested apps worked to change wallpapers ALL OVER Xperia X10?

So far I have found only 2 applications on the market to do this.
1. Wallpaper Plus- $1.99
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
2. Wallr- Free
Wallpaper plus is more customizable. And Wallr is only allowed to pick any wallpaper in a specific folder randomly. try it out.
