So, I'm really confused on how I would apply one of these to my evo.
Lets say for example, I wanted to apply something from this thread here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=685537
How would I do this?
Can someone walk me through it?
Most of that stuff is flashable through recovery. Just download the zip file and put it on your sd card. Then through recovery just flash it like you would a ROM

Yeah, I'm somewhat confused on how you would do that. Because when I tried doing that for one of the clocks in that thread i posted, when i rebooted it just removed the clock i had, and i couldnt find the one i wanted anywhere.
What am i supposed to do?
hmmm theres two links there my guess is you might've downloaded the wrong one or something idk. If you downloaded one of the clocks in the 4th post try the link at the very bottom of the post for the clock you want. I think those are the working ones although im not 100%
Ok, im going to tell you what i did just to make sure im doing this right here.
- Opened quick boot
- Click recovery
- Hit Flash zip from sdcard
- Chose the one i wanted, did all that.
- Hit reboot system now
- When the phone turned on, the usual clock on the main screen of my phone was gone.
- Am i supposed to do something else once i turned my phone on?
Naw you did it right. Thats fine my only guess is you downloaded the wrong zip. Which rom are you using?

This is where i get lost, how do i know which rom im using? And to be honest, i dont even know what the heck a rom is.
Sorry :/
edit - If i siad i was using this ROM, would that make sense?
BuglessPete's Bugless Beast ROM
http://bit.ly/az4cWq
you sure thats the right one because it doesn't have sense so you wouldn't have a clock to begin with. In order to check go to settings>about phone>software information. Your build number is the rom you're running
I'm pretty sure that was the one i had, because its the one that was included in the tutorial i used.
Under build number, the exact thing it says is..
1.17.651.1 CL160858 test-keys
Did i do something wrong?
If my memory serves me correctly thats the regular old stock debug rom you're running. Theres no way you could've been running bugless beast if you were able to use htc sense unless im missing something
Hmmm, well, I thought that was the one. Maybe not...
But any ideas on what i should do here now to be able to put my themes and all that good stuff on now?
idk if you can put themes on the debug rom since its not deodexed. I would pick a rom and flash it then try the clock. Don't forget to backup your stuff though. I would try either this one:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=700649Make sure you download the one in the second post. Or this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=700448
Alright thank you very much for your help, ill give that a shot when I get home later, but do I have to do anything with the previous rom I had, such as removing it or something? Thanks again though
Well other than backing up your apps and contacts etc. Just make sure you remember to wipe before you flash the rom its in the recovery menu
Alright, do you know if that nand backup backs everything up? (contacts)
Sorry if some of these questions I have are stupid, I'm just not very experienced with stuff like this
Thanks
Yea it'll back everything up but you won't be able to restore them to the new rom. For contacts you're best bet would be to put them all on your google account by using an app like vcardio and then improting the vcard on google
Airtight yeah I just downloaded that app now, looks like it'll do the job. Ill give this all a shot later tonight, thanks for all your help, for like the 8th time lol
lol no prob

You do realize it's the same thing I posted right?
All he did was put the .img in a zip file.
The instructions to flash it is to... well, if you're using his .zip which I don't recommend because a MD5 hash is missing. You can try downloading his file and verify it corresponding to that thread. You need to make sure the MD5 hash matches otherwise something could go wrong because you have a bad download.
1. Go to the page I linked, download a NS4G recovery with a color that you'd like on it.
2. Once its downloaded, put the img in your /sdk/tools/ folder.
3. Put your phone into bootloader mode.
4. Open command prompt
5. cd C:\wherever your sdk folder is
6. fastboot flash recovery ns4g-4002-color.img (replace color with the color you got)
E.G. if you downloaded the cyan one, it would be, fastboot flash recovery ns4g-4002-cyan.img
green? --- fastboot flash recovery ns4g-4002-green.img
and so forth.
7. reboot recovery
done.

Yeah but its not the original link. It's also put in a .zip file. Just wanted to explain to him that both of them are the same. So regardless it should work. Just OP should check its MD5hash before actually fastboot flashing it.
Ok let me clear things up. Hellcat was wanting it on his phone so he contacted me asking me how to install so i advidsed him to use the one click method by shabby penquin just replace the recovery in his file with this one and rename it to recovery
yes and it worked perfectly, didnt change anything at all except the version of CWM. do you think we should contact shabby penguin to maybe update his file?

Duh. What did you expect to be changed within Clockwork? That's why the latest is 3.0.2.4 for the NS. Recoveries don't get updated all of the time.
Most of the changes aren't even for the NS tbh.

No? I'm just saying that when you update your recovery you shouldn't be expecting much changes to be coming from it. Clockwork Recovery only gets updated to 4.0.0.0+ to support new devices. That's why the official Clockwork Recovery that is supported by ROM Manager & Koush's current version for the Nexus S is at 3.0.2.4 and not 4.0.0.2.
And I never said it doesn't exist. Yeah I didn't mention "official support" but you should know what I meant. Don't pretend like you don't know what I'm speaking about.

Okay now I have no idea what you're talking about because you're talking irrelevance now. But anyway, the OP has what he looked for in this thread. Congrats. I only responded to give him his answer on that he was surprised that there wasn't much changes within the recovery.
Nothing is really ever changed in a recovery as it is 100% functional. The Clockwork Recovery version only really increases because of additional support of Clockwork recovery for other Android phones, tablets.

What does it say on your phone
If the phone boots to anything, your not bricked.
Sounds like your trying to flash it the wrong way or something? Download the ROM you want, put it on your SD, you can mount from CWM if you cant boot past recovery.
Wipe/factory data reset
Then install from zip
Select your ROM and your on your way
Well first the S/W updating screen, then unplug the phone put the battery and reboot to CWM and when im going to do a restore/backup it always says wrong image or no image file or no file or m5 something as for now i cant do nothing to restore my phone.
I have seen where that happens at times, where you cant restore someone else's backup. If you have access to a pc, just download a new ROM. BTW, Gingerbread is far more stable on my phone then any FROYO was

not a problem. the brother above is right, it sounds like you are trying to flash the nandroid restore instead of flashing a rom. I apologize for not making more clear when I sent you the post. You can actually restore that but you dont flash from zip you go to backup/restore and choose restore for that file in that post.
1. You must have ROM Manager installed and or ClockworkMod Recovery flashed and an external sdcard installed. Then have the directory and file contents of the "LG-P999-V10f.rar" file extracted to your external SDCard in the _ExternalSD/clockworkmod/backup/ directory.
2. Run ROM Manager and choose Reboot into Recovery or boot phone into clockworkmod recovery.
3. In recovery go down to backup and restore, choose restore.
4. Select LG-P999-V10f and choose Yes - Restore.
5. When the restore finishes do not reboot yet. Do a "wipe data/factory reset" from the recovery menu.
6. When it completes choose Reboot.

Glad you got it worked out. The x-boarders stock tweaked is really nice and very stable. Its probably the best IMO. I also like the AOSP by Faux combined with his OC kernel is really nice also. There is also another I have been hearing alot about that seems to be really nice with alot of custom options and tweaks and thats called Weapon. Happy Flashing
Thanks a lot im going to check them out!!!
One more question??
When i go to the sounds menu on the ringtones they appear three times all the sounds, why is that??
Sounds like you have an older SD you may have used in another device? You most likely have them on your SD a few times under Audio or something IIRC
Maybe who knows jeje, but i just flash a froyo rom and it fixed so no worries.
I just installed CWM via odin and all seemed well then I tried installing two different ICS based roms and both resulted in being stuck in a reboot loop. Could I have done something wrong? I have tried some fixes I saw posted around but nothing fixed the issue.
make sure u use darksidr before every flash. Also make sure u wipe dalvik cache. Did u install the uclca4 radio before u tried those roms?

1. What's darksidr? I backed it up so I can go back... I just want ICS
2. I did dalvik twice
3. No, one ICS rom said you needed to install radio but the other didn't and on the first step of installing the rom it looked like the radio may have been packaged with the rom. Where can I find the radio download?
Got the radio and no luck =/
flash superlite 5.1, it does all the work for u
I flashed superlite 5.0, where is 5.1?
but 5.0 did it all for me too and didn't work =/
loom for darkside wipe and flash it. Superlite 5.1 just got posted, try it. If that doesn't work, odin back stock, reflash cwm, and flash superlite again.

After Odin, did u boot into the phone and let it cycle and then install Odin cwm? Give that a try. Also, most of the updated ROMs already have the proper radio, no need to flash. Let us know how it goes.
Run the: ics odin one click. Then odin cwm recovery. Then flash ics rom. Or just flash this rom and you'll be good to go

In cwm its also very important to format /system before you flash the new rom. You didn't really mention if you did that or not, so I'm just saying, just in case

I don't know what you've done to your phone. Perhaps if you make a very detailed list of what your setup is and what you've done so far we can help get you going. Be specific
Afternoon iLiberate,
What carrier are you with?
~PsyCl0ne
EDIT: Actually you know what come over to [RoM] ~[4.0.3.]~TEAM PERFECTION~REVAMPING
Now a couple of things before you start.
I am using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1472954 for my recovery. I have had issues with a newer version but this one has helped me through a ton of issues I have had.
(Flash this with ODIN first)
I also recommend getting a wiping script DARKSIDE Super wipe. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1487706
(Give props to the guy that put this script together. Keep the zip file some where easy to access, you will be moving it to your phones external SD card along with the rom zip and kernel files.)
When you go into the TeamPerfection thread it is gonna be kind of confusing looking at all the links. Basically you will see 3 Themes (AOSP ICE, KOBALT, Phone Candy) then a link to a rom that is already themed, and finally the stock rom which you will need if you want to flash any of the three themes I listed earlier. For now I would just go for the Sense release we can always change what it looks like later.
Also you will need a kernel.
If you're with AT&T I would suggest getting Mohan's kernel. If you're with a Canadian carrier I would suggest Romracer's kernel.
From here you can basically follow the guide in post number 3. It is really simple just need a little patience and it will go through. Also if you have any titanium backups from Gingerbread, please don't restore those apps when your phone comes back up. Just scribble down a list of apps you currently are running, make backups of SMS/MMS if you wish and then manually download them one by one from the market. Then you can make a Tibu of the apps so if you want to change what your phone looks like you can just restore all the apps in one go.
If you need any more help please feel free to PM me, I honestly don't mind or even post back here. Gonna be doing some work around the house but I'll check back periodically.

Heylo Guys,
First post (obviously) and I'm kinda stumped.
So, I rooted my phone (Skyrocket on AT&T) with Odin and got CWR on it as well. Then I successfully flashed the Sky ICS rom and was doing all my joyful downloading and stuff of apps. I got ROM Manager and updated my CWR to Touch Recovery. Everyting was fine and dandy. I then wanted to back up everything after everything was set up and my ROM Manager froze. Sooo, I did the recovery via button holding and tried to backup; however, Touch won't backup, it just freezes. So, I started to do other things in touch... but they freeze too! In fact, it even freezes when i just try to go back to a previous menu. My phone still works... I just can't flash anything... or do anything in CWR. Anyone know what's up?

I used chromium on my pc to download the zip then transfer it to the phone, are you and SkookDroid talking about downloading the zip directly to the 1X? That would be weird if that was why it didn't work.
I tried the CM10 8/9 alpha today and had to change back to cleanrom 4.5 because the call quality was messed up. First I wiped cache and davlik cache with TWRP then restored my 1.85 backup. It said everything was ok but on restart it hung on the white 1X screen until 5min later I restarted and the restore finally took.
Good Luck with it.

sinco54 did you :
Copy ROM to storage
Reboot to Recovery
Recommend wiping data / Factory Reset in Recovery!
Install ROM and Aroma installer will start.
Choose Standard or Lite Edition
Let install complete
Reboot to System
Profit!
I copied that from the first post of : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1655011

The install instantly fails due to a bad download, thats why I said to use a different browser to download the ROM from the pc then move it to the phone and flash it lol
yuup, back up done, wiped dalvik and cache, fatory reset blahblahblahblah.. instantly fails.. Im downloading via mozilla right now but, gonna give that a while once that finishes up and see what happens.. and thats why im confused, it should work JUST FINE cause ive done this 8 million times but ive gotta be missing something obviously cause it should work.. the funy part is that the phone wont even let the OTA 2.2 from att install, it just goes directly to twrp and thats it.. thats where i get lost, i cant flash from twrp and the OTA will just boot directly into twrp so its like ive missed something somewhere.. Ill update here in a few minutes once i try again with a new download via mozilla.. thanks guys and sit tight..

Does anyone check md5 sums before flashing something anymore?

No. Instead, people blame browsers for not completing downloads. It takes 15 seconds at the most to check MD5 sum and it can save hours of headache.

I was giving my opinion because chrome has given me problems before. Sorry we cant all be super devs like you, oh wait...
I wasn't trying to be sarcastic It's just that coming from the aria forum it was almost like written in stone (attn1) always check md5 before flashing anything. It's just a really easy way to make sure your not about to flash something that could potentially Bork your phone.

And your opinion is wrong. Browser has nothing to do incomplete downloads.

Depends on the devs. Some forums make things very noob friendly (like the HOX). Very convenient and nice of the devs, but when people don't even know what fastboot and ADB is, it causes a lot of grief for the devs. Just look at what happened with the scandal that almost deterred Scott from producing HOX roms. It's fine being new to the scene, but there are too many people who don't even care enough to read instructions.
Even some of the ROM developers themselves said the same thing about chrome, but since your the smartest guy around and no ones opinion matters but yours they're wrong too right? I've been here for a month, youve been here for two years. Im new to the scene and still learning, its people like you that deter newcomers from asking questions and participating in this site. Im not here to argue with you, im here to try to help out fellow users(WHICH I DID) so have a good day, sir.
yeah my bad entirely, i had assumed that because i was downloading from scott directly and not like media share or some mirror download that the md5 needed to be checked. but that still doesnt explain why 2 downloads via chrome were not good and 1 download via firefox is ok.. i dont know, but its interesting to me.. I didnt claim to be mr know it all, nor do i think i am at this stuff but your shamless sarcastic stab wether to be taken like that or not sounds like it..
I do understand this site has grown exponentially and many of the original guys are just disgusted with newbs like myself but ill tell you i do appreciate all the help ive been able to search for over the last 3-4 years as a lurker and finally registered a few months back.. I hate internet forums for this exact reason.. wether skookie was correct or incorrect he helped me and he deserves an 8 ball of the finest coke and 2 hookers for it. cheers!!
I want you to know that I try to help everyone I can and even have taken **** from some other members for not letting some members with redundant questions figure somethings on there own. As far as the downloads go I'm nit going to take sides because I've seen people report the same thing that one browser works while another doesn't. But my point still is what ever your using to download or where its being downloaded from there is always a chance that it can get corrupted or be incomplete so a quick md5 check just ensures a safe flash.
