Just a random thought I had. I own a Fuze and I love the 480 x 640 resolution of the screen. If someone gave me a phone with anything less than a VGA resolution I think I would go crazy. I saw my old Mogul laying around and decided to turn it on to compare both screens. What a difference! So, do you think you (VGA owners) could ever go back to QVGA?
i did, sold my touch pro and used my vogue. it was a hella big difference at first but when you get used to it, you will barely notice the difference
the biggest place where i miss my vga screen is when im web browsing

That sucks that you had to sell your TP. I can see how one would get used to the screen resolution again though, but for me it would be really hard.
I voted no, however I would have to agree with mike. For purely phone related tasks VGA is not necessary, however once you use the more "advanced" functionalities like web browsing, third party apps, VGA becomes quickly the minimum resolution, especially for web browsing.
VGA works great for me with my 3.5" 640 x 480 pixels, Just in 2008 devices started to make this screens and my Universal is from 2005!!
QVGA I really don´t like it
WVGA never used...

It's def a big factor in choosing a phone, but sometime a qVGA phone is better. Like Omnia vs Diamond. Either way, I prefer my Storm's screen

I had no idea the Omnia was only QVGA. I figured it was such a well-rounded device and expected the VGA screen, but I guess not.
The Storm does have a beautiful screen though. I'll give you that. I'm really starting to regret getting rid of the Storm...
I can't have less than my Fuze's VGA screen. WVGA or higher is next for me!
BTW, what is the name for screens with res 360 x 640, like the Omnia HD and Idou. I googled it but no go . . . it may be "qHD" though?

qHD sounds good, but I doubt that's the name for it. Actually (and I could be completely wrong) I think 360 x 640 is still considered VGA. I think that maybe once it gets to a certain amount of pixels it would change up to the next level. I don't think I know what I'm talking about.
I had my HD, and i thought that all WM devices look like this until my brother got an Omnia, and i thought something was wrong with the device. Thats until i found the difference was WQVGA and WVGA.
BIG difference in quality, so no it will be hard to go from VGA to QVGA, but you will get used to it.
I've got the Blackstone, and briefly had the Omnia in my hand.
Returning to QVGA is pretty much impossible after you've got used to >= VGA.
However, the difference is not the screen real estate, but the DPI. Once you get used to a higher definition screen, it's horrible to go back to the ill defined QVGA screens. However, a small VGA screen still looks great, but a physically large QVGA screen looks even more hideous! (I recently had reason to pull out my IPAQ, the original ancestor to modern Windows Mobile devices, and was surprised to see that the screen was bigger than the Blackstone, but no where as well defined).

MY Diamond screen cracked and my insurance company said they could not replace it, so offered me a £350 cheque. as I was due an upgrade in 3 months (1 month to go) I took their cash and banked it decideding to go back to my old artemis for a few months.
Whilst VGA is sooo much better, you can survive with QVGA. However I am happy with it because I know it is temporary till mid june (ish) when I get a TD2
Rumor is around that HTC are prepping for an upgrade to HD2 with WinMo 7 .. http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=12268
I like amoled screen after seeing the Nexus One vs the HD2's but I would prefer it being the size of the HD2's. The screen on a phone that size is a gigantic plus of the HD2. I also like the 4gb internal memory and micro sd card feature.
Good looking phone. My hope is the HD2 can be upgraded to WM7 so I can have a honest choice when my wallet catches up to my desires.
The phone mentioned in that story is reported to have a 3.7" screen.
Since the HD2's biggest statement is its screen size, I would not call anything an upgraded HD2 if it has anything less than a 4.3" screen.

Anything less than 4.3 would be a downgrade!
I think a 3.7" display would be fine..I love my HD2, but if it was a touch smaller, I wouldn't grumble either!!
Yeah, not just because screen it´s not bigger you can´t call it an upgrade.
Personally I prefer a screen of 3.7"
They're releasing an HTC HD2 with a smaler screen but AMOLED and better drivers.
Wow.
Amazing like a broken PC... lol.
IMHO this isn't a better device only because it has got 512MB RAM.. the HTC HD2's 4.3" screen is simply the better thing never seen. If only it would be AMOLED.........
Anyway, I think that I'll stay with my HTC HD2 for more than a year if they're releasing devices like this as a successor.
The only good thing to have is WM7 on the HD2.

I read somewhere that the screen of HD2 is capable of displaying 16 million colors but is limited to 65K because of WM 6.5. If this is true, we should be able to get 'near Amoled' experience with HD2 running WinMo 7.

Hardly. You won't even get close to OLED black levels on the HD2 screen, nor will you get the kind of smoothness of motion and lack of blur/judder that an OLED display gives you, nor will you get the major battery-life-extending benefits of OLED.
Even if the HD2's display is theoretically capable of >65k colours, it quite possibly still can't do 24-bit colour - most phone LCD displays are only 18-bit.
On the other hand, thus far most OLED screens seem to deliberately over-saturate the colours. My HD2's white point is a bit pushed to blue, but otherwise the colours are quite accurate. OLED sunlight readability is also often poor (although it has to be said the HD2's is pretty bad because the screen is so glossy).
Heh, well, the AMOLED display saturation is somehow superior in some images and it's not good while exposet at sunlight, but the battery life of an AMOLED screen device is really, REALLY SUPERIOR, because AMOLED simply powers down the pixel if it is pure black and it consumes less power because it plays on the voltage/amperage of an AMOLED pixel for "colouring" it.
Anyway, I'm just happy with my HTC HD2 and with his pretty BIG screen.... we can only wait and see if WM7 will use 24bit colors with the HD2's screen!
...I think the battery (1230 mAh) is not enough for this specs.
the obsession is just another device from htc coming after hd2 doesnot mean it is an upgrade to hd2 if it was we would consider td2 as an upgrade to blackstone
and upgrade means huge different in specifications (like between hd1 and hd2 so the 64 mb more ram is not a really upgrade as they have the same processor running at 1gz )
cause its size i think its more diamond3 than hd3... looks like my next phone
this would be my next phone too....but..who knows when we will ever see it....at best it's still 9 months away!!!

Whatever devices come out next, I`m hoping they will have a TV out (or even HDMI).
It would be great, to have a mobile film player wherever we go ( for the kids of course), but also would not have to remote desktop using a tiny screen.

It's being released awfully late if it's an upgrade to the TD2; the TD2 launched last April, but the Obsession isn't out till October - HTC doesn't usually leave that long between refreshes. And from a 3.2" screen to 3.7" is quite a jump, especially bearing in mind that the TD2 was positioned specifically as a smaller and lighter equivalent of the Touch HD and TP2.
Still, I agree that the consensus does seem to be that it's a Diamond 2 replacement (possibly originally intended to ship earlier but delayed by the late arrival of WM7).
Any news up on this? Waiting for snapdragon WM6.5 phone with no giant screen to replace my Diamond1.
looking at the thread i was just wondering is there anyone who loves small and sharp displays
I’m going to be buying a new phone soon. I’ve been eyeing up the Galaxy S II but I thought I might as well wait and see what is announced this month. One thing that all top end rumoured phones have in common is a 720p display. I have to admit this alone has tempted me to wait. But then I got to thinking, aside from the ‘cool’ factor. What benefit in the real world will a 720p display bring us?
The two main advantages that I can see are improved PPI and the obvious advantage when playing 720p videos. But a higher PPI means more processing power, which in turn means lower battery life. Also from an admittedly purely lazy point of view it means having to zoom in further to be able to read text.
A 720p display will now mean that 480p videos on youtube and the like will be upscaled and won’t look as good. ‘Just choose the 720p option’ you say. Fine, so long as you’re on wifi. Until 4G hits and is widespread (which in the UK is going to take a while) it will mean longer waits and buffer issues.
Yes I’m nit picking but I’d genuinely like to hear your thoughts on the pros and cons of a 720p display. I know there will be many more I’ve missed.
i see it from 2 sides....
720p = really nice picture quality
720p bad for some apps/games, which might no longer run properly, unless fixed, or some how the hardware can auto adjust the resolution to stretch it to fit.
720p can be a bit of a pain, if some Apps/Games developer decide to use too small of a touch area, due the larger dot-pix available in the 720p area
that also means DVD quality or lower quality videos played on the 720p will look like blurry or smeared, that can be fixed with software/hardware correction, like games.
^^ All that.
Plus, I don't really see the need for a 720 screen that's around the 4" size. Do you really need pixels that small? They'll be smaller than photons if we carry on like this and then it'll be reality that'll have to catch up with our tech
Personally, I wouldn't hold back for purely that one feature, but who knows what else is round the corner. Get a phone and let it be the best for a few months and then slowly drop down the list. As everyone always says, there's always something better coming, and if you waited then you'd never get anything.
Incidentally, I do have the SGS2, and it is REALLY nice
well definitely 1080p will be around the corner as we already stepped into the 720p kingdom
so 1080p on a 4" display would not be a long wait, but it will really make you think, what's the point of cramming so much in such a little screen
i can see 1080p to be a normal thin on a 10" tablet, but on a phone... that's a bit much
i do hope they don't go beyond 720p on any screen smaller than 5"
imagine running Windows Vista/7 on 15" wide LCD at 1080 (there are many laptops that are actually like that) it's soooooo eye strain-ful, it literally kills the eyes
i always down set the resolution back to something more readable to not strain my eyes

Do you need your reading glasses as well, so you can find your pipe and slippers?
i don't wear glasses, and i intent to keep it that way, reason why i prefer an easy reading, on 480 vs 720
on 720 i'll have to probably the the font size twice as big, to make it easily legible when you are in the car, bus/subway, or walking
no i don't get dizzy reading while doing any of the above
many people can't read if they are in a moving vehicle
probably due the same relevant issue about having to scan the text in a small device and straining your vision, while trying to keep an eye on the road and not crashing

I agree with you, therebisbreally no reason to go above 720p resolution on small smartphone devices. I myself notice my eyes begin to hurt after more than thirty minutes or so of heavy reading on my Sensation. Now I know my Sensation does not have 720p but I am just saying the size of the screen and the text on that screen is no doubt a strain on the human eye after extended reading done on the device. 1080p is definitely so,ethimg that should just make it to the larger tablets and not smartphones.
Oh and yes actually paying attention to the road while you are driving is a highly recommended activity lol.

Maybe i miss-understood your question, but i am using the Galaxy SII
I never had any screen / resolution issues
Well, first off, let's not forget that Android supports changing the DPI in build.prop(I think-haven't bothered in a while).I don't think manufacturers will leave 220-240 dpi of the current devices on 720p devices, but they would rather pump it up,so that everything stays the same size, but is just crisper. That's just my thought though.
On another note, lower resolution videos won't look worse at all.Resolution in that aspect is irrelevant. The same way that you can play a 720p video on a 480p screen without problems, you can do the opposite just as well.Unless some manufacturer decides to f*ck it up with upscaling tricks and stuff that will defo make the image blurry and ugly.
The only really valid argument on the topic,in my opinion,is the possible lack of processing power, especially when it comes to GPUs.We even saw the Mali MP-400,the most powerful GPU on a PHONE (DON'T SAY ABOUT THE A5 IN THE iPAD!!!!) to date, struggle to keep up in the case of the Galaxy Note's resolution. If the next gen of SoCs doesn't improve quite a lot in that aspect,we'll see some performance drops for sure. Not to mention the worst thing, the losses of battery life in case that extra power is met.Not that I mind about battery life as long as it makes it through the day,but many many people do.
Do any of you guys know the p in 720p stands for?
It has nothing to do with resolution, which is what you are all trying to talk about.

I was wondering why they made Android smartphones so big? For me the display size above 4.5 inches are useless. Who wants so big dimensions in his pocket? I had Note for a week. It was so uncomfortable. I even prefer 4.3 inch display instead 4.5 one. But these with small dimensions doesn't have good hardware.
Now according to my criteria there are only three phones with MONSTER hardware - Xiaomi MI-2 . MI-2S and Meizu MX-4
So I don't know what to buy.
What do you think? With this temp the displays will be 6 inches, which is ridiculous and ..... If I want tablet I will buy tablet.
It's a matter of opinion.
I went from a HD2 (4.3) to a SGS3 (4.8), and more and more I find even the size of my SGS3's screen to be too small. I watch a lot of films, play a lot of games and use my phone as an Ereader. Below 5" is too small for my taste. I'm actually happily anticipating the Note 3's potential 6" screen.
If all you do is the occasional casual game, post on a forum, read some webpages and do other, non-big things (More commonly referred to as 'the activities of the average iSheep'), a 4.5+" screen will probably feel bulky, yes.
Why would a small screen need heavy hardware? It's not as if it has to push a lot of pixels... . In fact, the hardware will be completely wasted as there is nothing one does that requires the processing power.

The three options according to GSMarena.com phone finder searching tool were Xiaomi Mi-2 , Xiaomi Mi-2S and Meizu MX-4.
I am really looking for Xiaomi. It is something great , but in this forum here people don't like it. And I know the reason.
The other variants are HTC One S , HTC First or Galaxy 4. (The last is big , but not enough to be compared to S4 , One and Xperia Z).
I guess it depends on what you do with your phone. What do you do that requires "monster" hardware and if it really does, how are you able to deal with the tiny screen size ?
I have the Galaxy S3 and the screen size is too "small" for the tasks that actually use the hardware to any great extent. Temple Run is okay, but many games are hard to play on such a small screen. I've watched Netflix on it quite a few times but it's never a really pleasant experience - my 10" tablet allows for video to be immersive, but the 4.8" screen is to small to really focus in on. It's too small to navigate most web-sites on without annoyance.
Is there a special program you use that needs high-end hardware ? Are you just not bothered by the tiny screen when it comes to the above tasks ?
I don't consider the S3 to be particularly "big" or "bulky" as I can fit it in my pocket and now that I'm using only bumpers for protection (along with screen protector and phone skin) it's really quite thin - so hardly bulky at all. If it can comfortably fit in my pocket I guess I don't find it that big. I can use it one handed, too.
Yes , the usage is the most important thing.
About the games - I don't play games often. I don't like FPS or somthing like that , cause now I am too old for this kind of games. And the experience is not as good as the one on the PCs. I have played only racing games. Especially Need for Speed Series and Asphalt.
Now on my phone (Galaxy W) I have only Temple Run 2 , Scrabble , Simple Chess. Temple Run 2 lags sometimes.
For films. I don't watch films on my phone. Even if I would have 5 inch phonblet. I watch sometimes only Youtube.
So maybe it isn't necessary to buy quad core phone. Dual is enough.
But for the RAM. Maybe it should be 2 GB.

I agree that the usage is what's important. Some companies do release some small phones, like Sony and Samsung. I'm actually a really big fan of the small android phones like the Xperia Ray, S3 mini, Xperia U... okay maybe they aren't that small compared to the Xperia Minis. but their size fits right in the palm of my hand and they're pretty slim and the hardware is pretty decent for their size (the Ray is amazing, still can't get over it).
The screen size, well it is user dependent, by that i mean it depends on what you do with your phone. Some games actually feel more comfy to play on a small screen (like Cytus, easy to reach the notes but sometimes hit notes by accident.) some are also comfy to play on a bigger screen because the UI might be too small (like Plague Inc. really small map. but you can zoom in if needed. its a hassle though). For me though i prefer watching movies on my Ray because the image looks clearer on smaller screens. which i enjoy.
One comment on screen size. its equally hard to use a full keyboard on a small screen as it would be on a big screen. still press the wrong keys by accident. but that's just me
If you don't want a big phone, don't get one. Pretty simple.

Normally I'd complain about someone bringing up a year-old thread with such an inane and unhelpful comment, but things have actually changed since this thread was active.
Firstly, I'll address your comment. Small Androids are plentiful, but good small Androids aren't. And small Androids with "flagship" specs are few and far between.
In fact, there's only ONE, the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact. Apart from the 4.3" 720p screen and smaller battery, it's every bit the beast of a phone as its bigger brother. Same processor, same 2GB RAM, same 20.7MP camera, same build quality, same software features, etc. In fact, since it only has a 720p screen instead of a 1080p, the Z1 Compact absolutely screams.
Even better, Sony is about to come out with the Z3 Compact (they skipped the Z2 Compact). Despite being exactly the same height and width, they're cramming a 4.6" screen (some rumors say 720p, some say 1080p) in there, and making it a hair thinner too. Dual front facing speakers, SD801 processor 2 or 3gb RAM (depending on the rumor), and the same software suite and 20.7MP camera as before.
Both are only slightly larger than an iPhone 5s or 5C, and much smaller than the current 5.0-5.5" flagship phones.
Oh, and they're waterproof.
These "Compact" Sonys are a departure from the "Mini" phones the other main manufacturers, like the Galaxy S4 Mini, LG G2 Mini, HTC One Mini(s), etc. which all are neutered spec-wise in many ways. Lower MP cameras, slower processors, less RAM, sub-HD screens, etc. And some are only "mini" in that they're not as huge as their bigger brothers, but could hardly be considered small.
The Droid Mini is a pretty good phone actually - all the specs of the Droid Ultra or Droid Maxx, but only available with Verizon in the US.
The Moto X is small for its largish screen size, and fits the hand (and pocket) nicely. It's substantially smaller than other 4.7" phones like the Nexus 4 or HTC One (M7).
I changed from my HTC Desire S to a Jiayu G3C, and it was a really big change for me. The Desire S was really good for one hand and fits perfectly in the pocket.. But the Jiayu it's really big. I think more than 4" is too much big to be called a "phone", is like I already see those phone as a "phablets"
I agree, many modern phones feel big and bulky. The range of 4-4.5'' is ideal for me.
Yes they're on the bigger side as of late as that trend continues to be in vogue, but holy moly are they lighter than any iPhone I've ever owned and used. I know the 5s is super light, but never owned one. I was used to the iPhone for awhile and never thought twice about its weight but after playing with some friends droid devices, the iPhone has always felt like a brick since then.
Nexus5 fits like a glove!
Personally, I thought the iPhone 4 was the perfect size because I could use everything on the screen comfortably with one hand. Now with my GS4 there are areas in the screen I just cant reach one handed the way I used to.
I think that They designed it for the user who often to play game and watch HD movie on their smartphone. Maybe that's why Samsung have "mini" version like Samsung S3 Mini.
But of course the can't make Galaxy Note smaller. It wouldn't be good.
It seems that soon enough we will have the Galaxy Alpha, which should be a good contender for the Z1 Compact (and it's straight successor, the Z3 Compact).
But I do agree with the OP, phones are getting a little too big for my tastes. Do notice I said "tastes", because it really is a matter of taste.
There are plenty of users willing to carry a larger device and take advantage of the added "screen real-estate".
For me are phones the best around 5-5,5 inch.
But maybe you can try out the HTC one mini or the LG G2 mini or the new Galaxy Alpha

So when i use the Youtube app the screen is about an inch short on both sides of being full screen.
There is an option to expand the screen its called "crop to fit" but it literally crops the video so you cant see descriptions captions or things at the bottom or the top of the video....missing content like this
Anyone else notice this.
Any suggestions. This is kind of disappointing.
Whats the point of such of big screen if you cant go full screen mode without it cutting out some of the content???????
When i use the stock Samsung browser to go to Youtube in desktop mode. Same thing its not True full screen.
But if I switch the stock samsung browser to mobile view it gives you 3 options. One of the options lets you go true full screen and doesnt crop as much out. But the thing is you cant select or change the video quality/resolution when its in mobile view. That kind of sucks if you want to watch a 720p or 1080p hd vid
This seems kind of like a big deal. I cant be the only one bothered by this.

There's no good way to scale or crop it. That's what we get because Samsung decided to go with a weird screen aspect ratio instead of making this phone a little wider. I wish it was wide enough to keep the ratio correct.

Wow. If i knew that I would of waited on the Note 8. People always get so hype over these new phones that they dont even question basic stuff anymore.
Dont get me wrong its a great phone but this could be a deal breaker.
But come on you cant watch true full screen HD YouTube vids. WTF.
No point in bragging about the sceen size in all the reviews.
Seems like my old Notes actually had a bigger viewing area if you dont like stuff cropped out. What a bummer.
>But come on you cant watch true full screen HD YouTube vids. WTF
What are you talking about??? If the youtube video is 16:9 you can still watch it on a 18.5:9 screen. Same idea as watching a 4:3 video on a 16:9 screen. You aren't missing anything just because there are black bars on the side. Do you want your phone to show video in the sides that never even hit the camera sensor that filmed whatever video you are watching? You want something literally impossible.
>If i knew that I would of waited on the Note 8.
Guess what... the Note 8 will have the same problem. Every screen on planet earth has this problem. It's not even a problem, its just how reality works. If the note 8 is a 16:9 screen it wont completely fill up with 4:3 videos. on nooo!!! If you get a 2.4:1 home theater projector screen and try to watch a 16:9 video OMG all that money down the drain!!!! You can't fill your screen!!!
Come on. If you absolutely must watch 16:9 videos on your phone with no black bars then don't buy a phone that is clearly not 16:9.

You might as well stop buying Samsung flagships then, Samsung will keep using the taller screen ratio in the future too. And it's literally impossible to fill the entire 18.5:9 screen with a 16:9 video without either cropping the video or stretching it. Video is information, and new information cannot be generated like you are asking (how are you going to return back in time, to have the camera capture more image from the sides to fill the screen with? The camera did not capture more from the sides, meaning it's not possible to know what was there, the information is missing, thus making it impossible to fill the screen without stretching or cropping)
It's a none issue. The picture quality is so exceptional I don't care enough to worry about black bars
Moreover, if watching a common 2.4:1 movie (i.e. 21.6:9) on the 2.05:1 S8/+ display (i.e. 18.5:9), one can enjoy an almost full screen image using only a small cropping, without the upper and lower black bars...:good:

The cropping is cutting out informative info at the bottom of the vids I like to watch.

it is but it was also great on all my old phones. HD youtube can only look so good on screens this size anyways. It does seem better on the 8+ though. I wanted a larger viewing area. Legit question...If size disnt matter why did you go with the 8+ instead of normal 8?
I wish i could get over the black bars like you.

I dont mind the Stretch. I prefer the stretch. However stretch view is not an option with the Youtube app. Youtube app is the only way to change the resolution to HD in full screen mode. Thats the whole point to screens like this is to watch HD stuff.
Thanks for the technical info but that is a bit over my head. I still dont really understand that. Its not absurd to buy a $900 device and expect it to play youtube vids full screen in HD.
The cropping is an issue because it literally cuts out some of the info listed at the bottom on the screen that is important to the vids I watch.
Also kind of defeats the whole purpose of an edgeless display and how the phone was advertised.
You think the Note 8 will have the same issue????? You dont think they will make it a tad wider to compensate and make it different from the s8+?

Nope, if they make it wider with the same tiny bezels, it's going to end up looking short and odd. Samsung isn't going back to the 16:9 aspect ratio, it's going to look old-fashioned to people that are used to the taller screen, now that Samsung has branded it as futuristic and great (Infinity display). And it's not an "issue", because it's just a way that screens work, different ratio screens have things cropped out or stretched out if you want to fill the whole screen.

Dont be a jerk... Calm down. Dont take it personally. Its a legit concern and question I have about enjoying my device. FOR MY NEEDS THAT I PAID MY MONEY FOR.
The bottom and top of the content of the vids I watch daily is cut off in crop to fit mode. Youtube app isnt offering stretch mode for some reason.
There is important info that i need to see for the vids i watch ussualy at the bottom or top of the screen.
It is not ridiculous to expect to watch HD vids full screen and not miss content. Are you kidding me??? You sound like a fan boy. Its a valid point.
I really like the phone other wise. But this very well could be a deal breaker for some. If Its not fof you great. You have no idea what I use my phone for or why I spent money on it.
Again you pay for a big HD screen to be able to use it fully.
If im having these issues swith just using youtube im sure all the other sites and online media are going to suffer from this.
I bought the phone for screen size and hd capabilities. Had no idea I would have to choose between the 2 on one device.

Things come and go every device. I try not to get caught up in the branding or marketing.
Also I would guess the Note needs to be different size than the S8. Otherwise its just going to be a S8 with a pen and moved fingerprint scanner.
Guess we will see.

Note 8 changes will be a 4K screen, fingerprint scanner embedded inside the screen, dual cameras, 6 gigs of RAM and of course an S-Pen. It's a half-year renovation, the general design will barely change, most likely a bit more square than the S8, but generally the same. The screen size will be the same or a tiny bit bigger than the S8+, this time changes are focusing more on specs than the screen size, that is already at the very edges of what is useful in the S8+. The Note 7 screen size increase over the S7 was minimal too. The Note 8 will also get a major software renovation like the Note 7 did, but thanks to XDA we will see that software in our devices most likely even before official release date of the phone, because the processor is the exact same
The annoying thing for me is when the next video plays I have to crop the screen again I don't know if there's a way to keep it full screen until you exit the YouTube app and when you go full screen straight away the ads go full screen but then the video seems to go black bars and you crop it again.
I never understood why people don't like the aspect ratio. The video would be the same size on another phone but there would just be bezels there instead. At least when I'm in other apps I get more real-estate instead of having just big black bars constantly there in the form of bezels

The Note 8 be about the same price as the S8+ right now, just like last year the Note 7 was about the price of the S7 Edge. And as software is a big selling point of the Note line, I don't feel bad at all getting an S-line device, thanks to XDA
To the average customer, a software refresh may be a big reason to buy a new device, but thanks to XDA, we will get complete software ports of the Note 8 over to the S8 quickly. These ports will also have very few bugs, because the specs are so similar, good example is how a bugless Note 7 ported ROM came to the S7 before the Note 7 actually went on sale
And take in mind that the Note 8 release date will most probably be later in the yearly cycle than last year so that the S8 can get a good run, because the S8 this year came later than S-line phones usually do. I don't find it worth waiting +5 months for those upgrades, when the price will be the same

I dont know if thats true. Especially if you're coming from a note. I wish I could get my old phone to power on to test this.
I do find the black bars or the white menu bar to be way more distracting than a bezel.

None.
All I knew was the hype and that blue whale commercial.
Didnt know it was a thing to make sure the phone was manufactured with certain porportions.
Thought being able to use the screen in HD and full screen would be a given.
I have no problem with stretching the screen from the aspect ratio. However that doesnt seem to be an option on most HD content.

Not trying to be a **** but dude they advertised the hell out of the new aspect ratio to the point it got annoying.i dont know how you wouldn't have known lol
Sounds like in the future you may want to research your purchases a little more carefully.
I do agree Id much rather have the traditional 16:9 ratio in a 6.2" size...would be much better for sure
