Is a Rooted phone the same as an UNLOCKED Phone? - Android Apps and Games

Guys, I just got an unlocked Nexus One with Froyo on it that is unlocked but I can't install this program because it tells me my phone has to be rooted but I thought it was the same thing..?
http://www.androlib.com/android.application.org-pbxes-fontsize-BiEA.aspx
Can anyone help me?
Also, is there anyone in my area (Charlotte, NC) that has a nexus one that can show me how to use it and show me a few shortcuts?
Thanks
George

unlocked means it can be used on different carriers, its not the same as rooted. root access means you can adjust and change system properties on your phone.

Thanks.
So, how do I root a phone and is this something I can do myself?
George

Yes, see the nexus development section.

Thanks guys

[Q] Rogers One X rooting

Hi there,
I am new to rooting devices and have a question.
I had a look in the One X rooting forum but wasn't able to find an answer to my question. I was wondering if I root my Rogers One XL device, will it show a tampered tag similar to that on the AT&T version? Also if it is rooted does this completely void my warranty or is there a way to revert back to unrooted methods if I need to make a warranty claim?
Thanks in advance for any responses.
Can anybody answer this?

I do believe that someone reported wiping/flashing/updating to a new version and losing the tampered = returning back to locked. Although [myself included] have returned the device for a replacement or fix and they never even looked. Just checked to see if it turned on // why its being replaced lol. So I wouldn't be worried about them catching you. Saying you take it into store though; Unsure about mail in.
Good morning,
The tempered that you will see on the bootloader only shows when you have unlocked your bootloader using HTCdev.com . Rooting your phone will not result in that message. Mind you Rogers will not cover your under their warranty plan if you've rooted your phone. If you were to return to stock without root I'm sure they wouldn't be able to see the difference at the store.
Cheers.
Thanks guys. Appreciate the response.

Unlock and Root SM-G920F ?!

Hey guys,
I have a branded phone from Germany (Telekom). I asked in the t-mobile section but they said that they're only for SM-G920T (the USA branded samsungs) and that this
section would be the right one for my phone. Anyways I want to unlock my phone, root it, install recovery and remove the branding and install a new rom.
Can anyone help me through this ? Since I couldn't find anything helpful. (My last phone was a Xperia Z3 and I only used flashtool and we had other methods to root our phones)
I would really appreciate any help.

Restore Verizon HTC One m8 to Normal

So basically I purchased an Verizon HTC One m8, I don't like all the bloatware and branding on the phone so I want to "restore" it to what would normally come installed on a "non carrier branded" m8.
My phone is NOT ROOTED is currently S-ON and has a LOCKED BOOTLOADER and I am running at Android 6.0. I haven't tried doing anything in case it bricks it but I have been researching ALOT! and haven't found a way to do it properly.
Can somebody please help me in finding a way to install the "normal HTC 6.0 ROM (without bloatware)". I tried a temp root and uninstalled the bloatware but they installed themselves back.
And I have this phone working on a NON VERIZON SIM had to edit access point names to do so though.
So will removing this verizon stuff make it Locked or unlocked or whatever?

Locked and s-on you can't do squat. There is no "restore" option you speak of either. Not to convert a phone.

Best you can do is go into app manager and one by one disable what you can.

Samsung Galaxy s7 Locked Bootloader help

I need to know if there are any solutions on how to crack this sgs7 to gain root access. If not now, then does anyone (like the top notch coders that are totally in depth with hacking phones etc) know if it'll be made possible to root. I'd absolutely love to gain root access on this phone. Im sure a lot of people are fuming right now.. As am. I. Any help will he greatly appreciated on this subject
You can learn all you need to know in the AT&T AND T-mobile S7 and S7 Edge forums. They have active discussions going about the state of the bootloader.
Hi
I have the US version with a locked bootloader
yes go to that threat

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that someone did try kingoroot and it did not work.
Supposedly someone has got root, but I guess we're still waiting for confirmation from a reputable dev.
Any word about hellsgod91? About root?
dude chill out. when and if the root comes out you'll know about it. trust me.
I apologize in advance for my ignorance on the subject matter at hand, however, I lost many pictures on my S7 (stored to the internal memory of the phone) and have been diligently attempting to recover them since Friday. Is it possible to recover them without the root? I have tried a number of software (rooting and recovery) and nothing has worked.... I started researching a few things and found the locked bootlander to be the reason it will not root and recover? Is this correct and if so, is there any possible way around this? I am truly shocked that I haven't bricked my phone yet with all I have tried. My email is [email protected] should anyone have any suggestions or valuable help. I am desperate!
I wish someone would just create an app that can unlock bootloader and such models such as the SM-G930P SGS7. Patience.. Yes I know.

Coming from iPhone...some root assistance needed

What is the best way to get this phone rooted on the T-Mobile variant? Also, if the phone is unlocked and I want to use it on MetroPCS do I simply just add the sim card and change APN settings?

All indications are that this is really the only way to root the phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...-to-notes-root-install-xposed-unroot-t3411039
However, IDK if this will work on the more recent firmware that has been released. They have some BS security patches and I'm unsure if this will F up the root process.
I have to say that I hate the direction rooting phones has been heading. It used to be so easy to find the root method and recovery for whatever phone you had on whatever carrier. Now for the most popular Android phone we have to run through all these hoops.
The PIA build can still be rooted using the method you linked. Just make sure you have the right files for your carrier.
I have heard/read that this method will work on every build except the nougat beta.
