sorry for the format...new user cannot post outside links...
cheers
Just downloaded, and bought a book to test it out!
Good fee classic freebies available, brilliant!
It works great....but my Kindle ebook displays text in some asian text instead of English?! No, I didn't download any Chinese books and I have set my location as English(United States).

Is there a way to highlight text?
"Search For "Kindle" in the Android Market on your phone."
Love the Kindle Software!
I already have some ".modi" book titles (which is Kindle Reader format). When I move these files over to the "Kindle" folder on my SD card... I get constant FC's when I go to start the software. The native format seems to be ".prc" when you download a book via the Kindle Software.
I have have no luck finding a .mobi --> .prc converter. I would like to see if this Android version of Kindle will even acknowledge the .prc files if I moved them over.
Anyone else have any luck getting this to work?

Not yet. If you go into the Menu in the Kindle App... there is a section on upcoming features... on of them is highlighting text... built in dictionary... searching for books from within the app.... etc.
Any kindle.apt download link please?
I live in Malta and am using stock ROM and stock recovery. Phone is not yet rooted. Kindle does not show in the market place.
Any suggestions on how can I get this app please?

couldn't find it, Captured the QR Code with my phone's barcode scanner and says not found...
there's any stand alone install?
Any chance of a mod to use a different font? I was never a fan of serif fonts. Would be nice to change the margins to, but I could live with that.

We've always been able to download .swf flash game files, but with Flash 10.1 I was hoping we could put them on the sdcard and play offline.
Anyone know how to do this? (For cataloging / playing Flash games when there's no connection.)
HAH! Idea: what about storing an html page that just launches a SWF? What's the least amount of code in a page that would do that?

Hahaha funny you say this, I tried it earlier after reading your message and no go.
For starters, no way to access local file from native browser (others may support it but native doesn't).
Closest I could come was by selecting the html file with astro, then choosing to open it with "HTML Viewer" (built into astro I think?) but it didn't show the embedded flash object.
I think best way to achieve this would be an app that can read a directory on sdcard and generate the html to load into a webview. I was thinking about throwing something together real quick but haven't had time to look and see if something like it already exists.
Damn, that's too bad.
Yeah, I find it very odd that you can't browse local html files.
A long time ago (G1 days) I tried all sorts of //file:/// weird stuff (like Firefox does) and couldn't get anything to work. I can't believe there's no way to browse locally.
Try file explorer in market for local browser.... let me know if it works lol

Yeah, I found this in another forum after posting this. Still, would be nicer to have a little interface that scans and builds a little menu out of flash files

V True, if I had anything approaching free time at the moment I'd be tempted to give it a go.
Im looking for the e reader app that was on the demo vid Samsung put out about a month back. Im not talking about the mag, newspaper, book one. there was also an app that only said "ebook" or something like that under the icon. It had a bookshelf and good looking animations when a book was opened (page turn etc. . .). I d/l Kobo but that does not look like the one Samsung was demoing, and kobo does not have any type of lage turn anamations. I have the US T Mobile version and it seems like it was removed for some reason. does anyone know what im talking about and does amyone have the apk for this?

Well, looking at it, it's certainly not Amazon Kindle or Aldiko. Possibly Kobo?

I d/l Laputa and it looks and acts almost the exact way the demo was showing..save for a few things..but that may be just Samsung customizing the app for its own use. Anyone here with the EU version that has this installed?
I'll have to look at the Nook reader and see how that one works..
The Laputa reader work very well and has very smooth page turning effects..so far I'm liking this one.
Here you go:
Maybe in exchange I could get my hands on the media hub from the US version. That, or maybe the demo versions of NOVA or Asphalt5 (not the market version) that came pre-installed on your device.

how do you install this? i unzipped it and its a ebook folder.
I think I know what your problem is: if I remember correctly, the .apk format is itself just a renamed .zip, so your unzipping tool is probably working a bit overzealously, and extracting both. Make sure you only unzip one level, and you'll be fine.
I found that the instructions in the last post here work.
androidtablets.net/forum/samsung-galaxy-tab/2279-no-signs-reader-hub-us-galaxy-tab.html
Download the files and do what he says.
Worked in my Tmo Galaxy Tab.
News and Kobo reader worked in ReadersHub and the magazines app worked in the Readin app.

Anyone been able to get the Ebook app to run on a US tab?
Tried to install it on every possible way, them I installed the nook reader (eu user have to use market enabler and fake themself as american to download it) from the market.
Page turn animation and double page in landscape, and that is what I wanted from the samsung app. And it's even implemented better!

Yep, full epub support, you have to put your books in /sdcard/Nook/MyDocuments amd you may have to open "my files" a pair of time for the books to appear.

Zinio, PressDisplay, and Readershub extracted from most recent version of Galaxy Tab ROM (JMA). (Actually the readershub was extracted from JK5). Zinio is not beta anymore.
works fine in Nexus One. Now the zinio preview shows the entire page, and allows work in landscape (but crashes often in landscape, works perfectly in portait).
Zinio Does not seem to work on Droid X, any suggestions?
It installs "succesfully" but doesnt add to app drawer, go to app manager and click launch, it returns error message "Activity not found - com.zinio.samsung.android"
EDIT: Figured it out, have to install readers hub, and luanch it, then click magazines to launch zinio!
-Thanks!

What about the ebook reader included in the readershub can`t u rip it as well?
Works great on Desire Cyanogen mod 6.1.0 so far.
Thanks for posting - can you get magazines full screen on your device? I can not on my Tab (as others have posted elsewhere) I have to zoom in slightly to get the image. Not really usable this way, as you then need to zoom out to change pages.
What do this apps do?
Only annoying thing is that Zinio doesn't multitask. If u leave the app and try to return to it, you gotta reload the magazine you were reading.

thanks for posting the apks here. worked flawlessly on HTC DZ
Hi, i have a big question: will this work on one of those crappy chinese tablets for like 100/200 bucks? I really want this app to read my skateboarding and surf subscriptions. but i dont need an expensive tablet..
soooo.... would this work on a 10 inch tablet that has 2.2?
Please say yes!
Works on Dell Streak.
PressDisplay doesnt work too well in portrait mode as the page overlapping each other. but in landscape it work fine... anyway to solve this issue?
Thanks for posting this. I have been using Zinio on my Viewsonic G Tablet for a few weeks now and am loving it. It works fine in landscape or portrait mode for me. It shows all of my subscriptions except for one which is an "interactive" magazine.
I have sent Zinio support an email about it as all of their FAQs are telling me to uninstall and install the latest version of the reader. Hopefully they will turn me on to a newer apk.
Zinio/The Reader's Hub was one of the primary reasons that I bought my Galaxy Tab, and finally it's here and working as expected.
The press reader portion of the apps don't work. I can't create an account and the online store simply returns a "Can not connect to server"
Thank you lots!!!!
Finally I can read my zinio magazines in my SGS... not perfect but it works... remember to install the three files. Access to Zinio is through Reader's Hub under magazine...
Enjoy
Samsung Galaxy S
Works great on the Adam
This is exactly what I have been looking for. I have installed it on the Notion Ink Adam and it works without any issues.
Any idea if we can change the Zinio download folder (to say a SD card or a USB drive)?
Thanks,
Richard

Hi
I had it partially working on my Archos 101 - worked fully in portrait but only text mode in landscape.
A couple of days ago I got the same non supported pop up with no way to upgrade.
Contacted support and a few hours later it was working again.

Does anyone know the location of an eBook once you tell it to make it available offline?
Or
I've got some eBooks that I would like to make available to the Books app on the XOOM, where do I put them?

It appears to be a proprietary book format, but I don't know enough about it for sure.
Each book is split up into many different files. I've transfered it to my computer to investigate it further, but I've had no luck.
I went looking when I first got the Xoom because I wanted to put my book collection in there.
Someone smarter than me will have to figure out how to do that!
The only alternative I've found so far is using Aldiko (ebook reader from the Market). You store the eBooks on the XOOM and import them into the app. I would prefer to use Google Books however.
That's incredibly frustrating. Even iBooks allows you to add your own epub. If Google Book a can't that's a huge setback for me. I read a couple hours a day on my tablet.

*BUMP* Anything new discovered? It sucks that we need another application and can't use the built in for reading ebooks. I love how books lets you turn pages.

Nook is only available to US users (and maybe certain other countries, but I'm not sure). People outside of US can't download nook. You have to find a way to sideload it to your Xoom if you are not in the US.
And Nook has problems displaying book covers from my own epubs. So I'm sticking to Kindle but converting to mobi format may be a hassle to some.
How did you manage to successfully import your mobi files to Kindle?
I have tried copying the files to the SD card location which makes them appear in the app but the app crashes when I try to open them. I have also tried opening them with the Kindle app from my file manager. Again, this was unsuccessful.
Thanks for your help in advance!
iReader?

have u guys tried iReader?
awesomely free!
I know its been awhile since this was last commented honest and maybe Google has updated Play Books since the last comments, regardless im pretty sure that it now doesnt matter where you get your digital content. Play Books will permit you to upload them and read across multiple devices. I have a fairly decent collection and i go back and forth between my Note III & Note VIII. If the book that you want to read isnt on the particular device that your using, Play Books downloads it. I have been unsuccessful in finding the default directory for the appand it was that very question that brought me to this post. :good:
Has anyone managed to extract the Asus book app (my book, I believe) from the rom? I'm looking for a good epub/PDF reader that will finally free me from the shackles of iBooks and I'd like to give the Asus reader a try on my xoom.
I use the Nook app for epubs and it works great. I know, not what you asked for but just throwing it out there as an option.

I don't know the situation of Nook, but in the kindle app, you can't do that.
In the nook app you can load local books, just put them in the /sdcard/Nook/MyDocuments folder and then in the nook app select My Files from the drop-down.
Nook is the best imo.
Hey there i must say the asus mylibrary is pretty amazing i'll try and get it for you.
Have you tried Moon+? That is my favorite so far. I like it better than the Asus one.
Moon and aldiko are the best. Moon better on the tablet. Repligo for pdfs.
