Has anyone managed to extract the Asus book app (my book, I believe) from the rom? I'm looking for a good epub/PDF reader that will finally free me from the shackles of iBooks and I'd like to give the Asus reader a try on my xoom.
I use the Nook app for epubs and it works great. I know, not what you asked for but just throwing it out there as an option.

I might give that a try - thx for the tip! I used iBooks because I would purchase books via Amazon, de-drm them, convert them to epub, then load them on my iPad for reading via iBooks.

why not just use the kindle app?
will either of those (Nook and Kindle) allow you to load a book that wasn't purchased?

I don't know the situation of Nook, but in the kindle app, you can't do that.
In the nook app you can load local books, just put them in the /sdcard/Nook/MyDocuments folder and then in the nook app select My Files from the drop-down.
Nook is the best imo.
Hey there i must say the asus mylibrary is pretty amazing i'll try and get it for you.
Have you tried Moon+? That is my favorite so far. I like it better than the Asus one.
Moon and aldiko are the best. Moon better on the tablet. Repligo for pdfs.

I prefer my books DRM free. I also prefer ebooks formatted in epub, and the Kindle doesn't support epubs.
Here's the MyLibrary apk I pulled from PRIMORDIAL! 3.1.

Does it work? No idea.
EDIT: You probably want to push it into system/app and not simply install it.
What's wrong with the MyLibrary app that comes with the TF?

Looking for the apk. I'm hoping it'll install on a Galaxy S phone as well as the email app did. Looking at a video, the ebook app that Samsung put together is rock solid on the reading front, and you can import books too? Pretty much every other ebook app I've seen fails at one or the other.
Its on the market, called ebooks by kobo. Also, its not exactly spectacular.

No I don't think he means the Kobo one.Kobo is the reader included in the reader hub, which should be different to the other one ebooks app that actually looks like the iPad version and that is great.Let me check if I can find in the filesystem and I'll post it

I was anxiously waiting that too, but was sorely disappointed. Ok, it looks cool and the page transition effects are nice.. but BOY is it slow!! It takes ABOUT 3-4 times longer to load the same book in the "eBook" app than it does in Aldiko. The eBook app also hangs and FCs once in awhile, which Aldiko has never done to me.
I heartily recommend you'd try Aldiko rather than get pissed off at that eBook app. Aldiko handles importing really well (except the stupid notifications, but what ever) and is a treat to use. No fancy effects, just sliding pages, but when I'm reading I'd rather read than watch lagging page-transition effects. That may just be me, though.

So you are saying that wait 5 sec is too much? I never had a FC with ebook app but I had with Aldiko jumping between chapters (depending on how the chapters structure was made).

No. I am saying that waiting for 40-60 sec to open a book is frustrating when you want to read. Aldiko opens the same book in roughly 10-15 secs. Also the Tab's eBook app seems to someone lag entirely too much when drawing the transition animations.

Hmm.that might be it.. I'm opening a book with about 700 pages with smaller font size...
Anyways, I like to use Aldiko more because that's faster and the animations lag on the eBook app.

Well, so far no go. Won't install, either with a package manager, or dumping the apk/odex into /system/app. Anyone know how I might try and deodex this? My current rom is deodexed. Maybe that will help?
Also, I use aldiko right now, but I'm a sucker for the fancy effects, at least if done right. The nook app did them excellently, but cannot import well to save it's life.
Hi All,
I just bought Galaxy tab and I am loving tab eBook app, not just because of animations but because of few important features like dictionary which is not available in Readers Hub Kobo.
One quick question- How can I purchase and import books in Tab ebook App. There is no download/buy button.
I have downloaded few books in kobo but I would like to open them in Tab's eBook app. Please help how can I do that.
Hi guys i see some of you like samsung ebook reader, i love it to and im looking for solution to install this apk on SGS II.

Im looking for the e reader app that was on the demo vid Samsung put out about a month back. Im not talking about the mag, newspaper, book one. there was also an app that only said "ebook" or something like that under the icon. It had a bookshelf and good looking animations when a book was opened (page turn etc. . .). I d/l Kobo but that does not look like the one Samsung was demoing, and kobo does not have any type of lage turn anamations. I have the US T Mobile version and it seems like it was removed for some reason. does anyone know what im talking about and does amyone have the apk for this?

I d/l Laputa and it looks and acts almost the exact way the demo was showing..save for a few things..but that may be just Samsung customizing the app for its own use. Anyone here with the EU version that has this installed?
I'll have to look at the Nook reader and see how that one works..
The Laputa reader work very well and has very smooth page turning effects..so far I'm liking this one.
Here you go:
Maybe in exchange I could get my hands on the media hub from the US version. That, or maybe the demo versions of NOVA or Asphalt5 (not the market version) that came pre-installed on your device.

how do you install this? i unzipped it and its a ebook folder.
I think I know what your problem is: if I remember correctly, the .apk format is itself just a renamed .zip, so your unzipping tool is probably working a bit overzealously, and extracting both. Make sure you only unzip one level, and you'll be fine.
I found that the instructions in the last post here work.
androidtablets.net/forum/samsung-galaxy-tab/2279-no-signs-reader-hub-us-galaxy-tab.html
Download the files and do what he says.
Worked in my Tmo Galaxy Tab.
News and Kobo reader worked in ReadersHub and the magazines app worked in the Readin app.

Page turn animation and double page in landscape, and that is what I wanted from the samsung app. And it's even implemented better!

Just use Calibre for your ebook needs... It can't get them for you, but it can organize it for you and convert from almost any format to almost any format.... Also it can download cover and meta data...
You just have to download a book, import it, ( edit meta data), convert it, send it to the device, and read.

Sorry, Could you guide me bit more. When I click download Epub from website, i got URLLink.acsm file which I can open in Adobe digital edition. I am not able to convert in to tab supported epub using Calibre.
If I remember it well (I currently haven't the ebook reader installed - looking for a deodexed version) you can import ebooks very easy by creating a folder on your sdcard called Digital Editions and place your epub books in there. Maybe you have to reboot before they show up.
(Could be that you first have to sign up for the online store)

I always remove the drm protection from the eBooks I buy. Just to prevent this kind of problems. I use this method: http://www.dvdvideosoftware.org/guide/remove-drm-from-adobe-epub.html

Which format are ebooks that have animation when flipping pages?
Sent from my GT-P1000M using XDA App
To get it back you have to change the product code back to something like CPW. This worked for me.
The code was something like *#232*IMEI#. Check the forum if thats not the one.
After that factory reset (you will loose everything!), youll be good to go
Sent from my GT-P1000 using Tapatalk
The flipping pages animation isn't part of the ebook format (although most ebooks are ePub format) that's just something the ebook reader does or doesn't do. Laputa does it but when you flip backwards it's the same animation. The Nook software is the best for the US for accurate animation.

It appears to be a proprietary book format, but I don't know enough about it for sure.
Each book is split up into many different files. I've transfered it to my computer to investigate it further, but I've had no luck.
I went looking when I first got the Xoom because I wanted to put my book collection in there.
Someone smarter than me will have to figure out how to do that!
The only alternative I've found so far is using Aldiko (ebook reader from the Market). You store the eBooks on the XOOM and import them into the app. I would prefer to use Google Books however.
That's incredibly frustrating. Even iBooks allows you to add your own epub. If Google Book a can't that's a huge setback for me. I read a couple hours a day on my tablet.

Nook is only available to US users (and maybe certain other countries, but I'm not sure). People outside of US can't download nook. You have to find a way to sideload it to your Xoom if you are not in the US.
And Nook has problems displaying book covers from my own epubs. So I'm sticking to Kindle but converting to mobi format may be a hassle to some.
How did you manage to successfully import your mobi files to Kindle?
I have tried copying the files to the SD card location which makes them appear in the app but the app crashes when I try to open them. I have also tried opening them with the Kindle app from my file manager. Again, this was unsuccessful.
Thanks for your help in advance!

have u guys tried iReader?
awesomely free!
I know its been awhile since this was last commented honest and maybe Google has updated Play Books since the last comments, regardless im pretty sure that it now doesnt matter where you get your digital content. Play Books will permit you to upload them and read across multiple devices. I have a fairly decent collection and i go back and forth between my Note III & Note VIII. If the book that you want to read isnt on the particular device that your using, Play Books downloads it. I have been unsuccessful in finding the default directory for the appand it was that very question that brought me to this post. :good:
Is there any good ereaders for WP7 like the one on the iPhone? All the ones I've downloaded are lame. I at least one that you can add your own epubs to and that actually works. The best one so fare is Freda but it freezes or doesn't work at all when I try to read a book from my Skydrive. Please help.
I solved it, it seems that you have to specify that the file be made available public before the Freda can download and read it correctly.
I use Freda also and highly recommended it. They also just pushed an update to it this month. I use dropbox account to get the books to it.

Works okay. Still lame how Windows Phone won't just let you plug in and copy and paste like WM use to.
I haven't seen any hat let you add your own epubs, but I think the Kindle app is excellent if you already arr invested in that platform.
