Maximum of 32 Gb for SDXC card??? - Galaxy S I9000 Accessories

This means we can't use this SDXC card?
http://www.digitalcamerareview.com/default.asp?newsID=4363
http://hothardware.com/News/Transcend-Introduces-64GB-Class-10-SDXC-Memory-Card/
is limit made by Samsung?

SDXC is a new SD technology, so it isn't supported by most products atm.
Brief History of SD cards.
We went from SD (max 2GB) to SDHC (max 32GB which is what GS supports) to SDXC (Don't know the max).
Also, those cards are normal sized, not microSD (GS only takes MicroSD). I don't know if microSDXC cards exist yet (probably I guess).
Also, I don't know whether it's possible to support SDXC through firmware updates, or if it requires a hardware upgrade (to the microSD slot).
Hope that helps bud.

but i just wonder can Samsung Galaxy S support 64 gb SDXC?

Most smartphones don't use SD Cards, but rather use MicroSD cards so to answer your question no.

Currently the max size for a MicroSD card is 32GBs at a class 2 speed. You can get 16GB MicroSD cards in class 2, 4, or 6 speeds.
Hope this helps.

You can actually get a class 10 16 GB MicroSD now (quite expensive though..) . Can anyone confirm that it works on the Galaxy S?

You are talking of the Kingston card.
Even though it is a class 10 don't take it for granted that it will be faster than a class 6.
Not all cards conform to their class ratings.
As an example ~ I was going to purchase a 16GB class 6 (I have the same card in my HD2), however, I found that the Sandisk Ultra II 16GB which is a class 4 was actually much , much faster.
I purchased the Ultra II and am happy to say it does indeed perform much better than the class 6 which I temporary removed from the HD2 to test.
Tests were carried out on both PC file transfer Read/Write using a USB card reader and in the Galaxy S for record/playback of video content.

I was pretty certain that sandisk's 32gb class 2 microsd card was the only 32gb microsd card available, but i found this
http://www.buy.com/prod/topram-32gb...d/q/listingid/92293363/loc/101/216378751.html
But i can't find any information on it......

There are 64MB microSD cards hitting the market about now. Not sure if SGS will be able to use them.

not yet, the highest is 32GB microSDHC
after that barrier they becomes 64GB microSDXC
there are already standard 64GB SDXC cards, that means the micro version is just around the corner.
usually it's a 6 month lapse from the moment the normal size SD comes out, to when the micro version gets released
now all that aside, i've a 32MB microSD, but never seen one for 64MB
it came as a demo disk for one of my devices

Nah, they don't make them that small.

saw a post once cant remember where, but it had a sandisk 2TB yes that is correct 2TB micro sd, im pretty sure its not available, but i gave me hope that one day i mite be able to fit the entire contents of my laptop drive (500GB) and my external (1.5TB) drives on something smaller than my thumbnail.

of course it will be available, in the next 10 years
technology advances are steady.
most of the time the tech is already availble, just not for the public, as they have to develop cheap way to MASS produce those things.

Bought this for my SGS.....class 4 has arrived from Kingston.I will post some stats when i test it.

Anyone know the speed difference between Class 2 and 6. Someone posted that the writing speed doubled but the reading spead was just a little better.

This is the same card I've got Call of Duty 2 PPC Working on.
Just noticed the picture on your first post is different to that of SanDisk microSDHC™ 16GB Card
Note the 2 next to SanDisk on the image which my card has too - so be careful of fake cards
My Sandisk 16GB MicroSDHC card is working perfectly for a couple of weeks now (its Class 2, currently the only Class available in 16GB microSDHC cards - many are advertising Class 4 but this is incorrect).
Anyone know how fast Touch Pros writing/reading speed is on memorycards?
Im about to order the Sandisk 16gb class 2 now, but am a bit afraid that the speed is to low?? My second choice is the Sandisk Ultra 8gb class 6..
Is their a noticable difference between them, except the storage?
Will be used mainly for, tomtom music and video and some gaming.
I mean, can the TP really take advantage of the high speed of the Ultra card?
Thanks
Has anyone seen a 32Gb mico SD working on the FUZE?

Best 16gb or 32gb microSD?

Going to start using the Inspire as my main music player (thanks to Ubermusic, which is simply too good to resist).. looking for recommendations on a 16/32gb microSD.
Also, question: how come Sandisk only has class 4 microSD's? I'm all for getting myself one of these as the reviews are great.. but there might be something faster out there that's close in terms of reliability?
I have encountered zero issues with my PNY 32 gb class 10 card. New Egg has them pretty cheap when they are in stock.

I've always bought sandisk over the past couple years for my cameras and they been great, very reliable an fast. Right now I have a 32gb class 6 in my Inspire for the past couple months and it's been great for music and movies
I've had good luck with the Patriot 16gb class 10 I bought at newegg.

I paid 20 for a Patriot Class 4 16GB. Worked great. Was pretty fast and large enough for me. But I like to be the guy with all the overkill stuff. So I'm getting a 32GB next.
I just ordered the PNY 32gb class 10. Upgrading from a 16gb class 4 that my wife fried when she took a picture and somehow turned the phone off at the exact same time... Tried everything to get it back to life - but maybe it was divine intervention.
I have a Patriot 16gb class 10 card from Newegg, results have been mixed. Speeds are awesome, but reliability has been an issue. Twice I have had the card become corrupt and had to fix with Chkdsk in Windows, and I have had several individual apps become corrupt and require a reinstall. Not major issues, just minor annoyances for me.

PNY 32GB microSDHC card
Ditto on the PNY 32gb microSD card. Works flawlessly on my Inspire. Seems a lot speedier than the 16gb one that came with the phone. Be ready to shed 2gb from formatting though, since it will only have a total capacity of 29.9gb on the card before tossing anything in it.
Get it from newegg. It was relatively inexpensive for it being a class 10 card, and shipping was fast.

Yes, this is the way memory works, you always get less than the advertised capacity. Bits vs bytes.

You're right about the allocation sizes.
I used 32kilobytes for my allocation size when I formatted the card. Using anything below that caused my previous card to have a somewhat jittery experience on my phone when watching downloaded movies. Then again this new card is a class 10 as opposed to the class 2 16gb microsd card that came included with the phone.
I don't mind losing the 2gb since I have more than adequate space for my music and media on the go for the price paid. =D

Thanks for the link. Seems to be a more straight-forward tester with less eyecandy. Accurate results for testing whether some peeps buying cheap rebranded cards from places like eBay got good deals or duds.
truly there are sandisk class 6
Based on past reviews in the Inspire/DesireHD threads: Sandisk and PNY are pretty safe. Patriot is hit&miss with quality control. Transcend has been downright problematic (surprising, I use to like that brand). Lower "Class" cards tend to be more reliable, but slower (obviously). It seems to be due that the higher-class cards may have higher power requirements while writing, but I can't find any way to confirm that (rumor, really).
I got a Sandisk Class-4 16GB card for my Inspire. It's been rock-solid. Now that 32GB cards are common, the 16GB cards are dirt cheap these days.

I have the same card also. My readings are very strange with SD Tools. I can run it and get as low as 4MB/s read and 18MB/s write. When I run the test again immediately it can go as high as 9.7MB/s read and 36MB/s write. I can keep doing it over and over and every time is a different reading. I've tried to do this after rebooting, I've tried it on different roms (AOSP and Sense) and still the same thing. I've tried SD Booster and it didn't help much either.
so it seems that the results of this app maybe not reliable, or there is another something that affect on the results.
Anyway it does not appear to benefit from this test.
thnx very much
Can't you people see that it does not matter which class you have. Because Dhd can't write faster than 5–9 mbs even if you have class 10.
So put whichever you like to use you will get the same speed. I have both a class 2 and a class 10 and I get theI same result.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Premium App
I'm really suspicious, I wonder if it's reliable, cause I got results that was better the first time.
I don't know if it's reliable or not, but I did 3 tests on my DHD, AR 6.3.1 mod, quite a few apps installed, half-full SD card a KINGMAX 16GB Class 6 which i bought 2 days ago. My previous card was a SAMSUNG 8GB Class 2 (the one that came with the phone).
What's interesting to note is that, after doing the first test I thought to myself "hey, why not overclock the cpu from 1.1GHz to 1.6GHz?" and so the second test went better than expected. Then I went from 1.6GHz to 1.2GHz and I got slightly better results than the 1.1GHz. See for yourself:
1.1:
1.6:
1.2:
Coincidence much? Or working as intended?
Notes: Both cards are SDHC. OC has been done with Daemon Controller. 1.1=1152000. 1.2=122880. 1.6=1612800.
Even without over clocking you will get a different result every time u run the test, even if u do it back to back. I think the test is full of **** and shouldn't be relied on.

Sd tools?
I'm extremely dubious about the results obtained from SD tools. I recently bought a 16GB, class 10 Samsung card and got to testing it. I got almost identical results for the 16GB card as I did for the 8GB, class 2 card that came with phone, but I did notice a difference in the time each card took to complete the test so I timed them.
8GB Class class 2: write 87 seconds, read 27seconds.
16GB Class 10: write 51 seconds, read 7 seconds.
So going by time took the class 10 is a lot faster but not according to the figures from SD tool results. Maybe someone else could try and post their results. I know this is off topic but if SDtools doesn't give accurate results none of these posts are any good.

Yes. I always go with the statement "the class is about the speed of the card". So you want the highest class possible. I suggest, in a mobile phone, so you don't really experience any lag when playing music stored on the card, you'll want to have a class 6 or higher. I always go for a class 10, if I can.

I've had 2 cheap sd cards die on me...
Exact same symptoms both times... First notice that some of my installed (on SD) apps are showing up with a shadow icon after a re-boot, fixable with a dismount and remount of the card, then it happens to more of the apps, then within a week or 2 the sd card reports itself as "blank or unformatted" Once it got to that point they couldn't be formatted by any device I have...
From first symptom to dead card was about 3 weeks or so total both times.
I'll cough up the extra for a decent card this time.

From what I understand, the phone hardware and/or rom may limit how high a class can be used. On my old HTC Aria running CM7 there was no point buying anything higher than class 6 (I used a 4 with no problems). I don't know if the skyrocket or ICS have the same issue. Still, you're not likely to notice much of a difference at class 6 or higher (depending on how you use it).

I've had a Class 2, 4, and 6 (w/UMS-1) micro SDXC cards. They were all retail packaged Sandisk. On 4 different Galaxy phones (Galaxy U, S, SII, SII Skyrocket) and one external usb reader, the transfer speed was 3.8MB-4.5MB when transferring large files. Classes didn't seem to matter on the Galaxy phones or the usb reader I had. Looking at the results of my test, I'm glad I didn't buy a 64GB micro sdxc Class 10 for double the price as it is telling me that I probably won't be seeing any speed improvements with it. I think part of the reason why it is so slow is that I'm transferring from a USB external to my USB plugged in device. But that is almost always going to be the case with me.
It would be nice to see UMS-1 compatible Galaxy phones in the future.
Tempted to get a 32gb one. I keep having to delete image backups when testing out 5 different ROMs at the same time :silly:
I had an issue with my Skyrocket and SD Cards a month or so back. The phone would take 4-5 seconds to wake up when I pressed the power key. I had a class 4 16GB Wintec MicroSD in there. When I took the MicroSD out, the phone jumped right back to normal.
Has anyone else had this problem, and more importantly, has anyone else using a Class 6+ MicroSD noticed lag time between waking the device and the display coming on? I might have to go get myself a Class 6 (if not Class 10) MicroSD if everyone's had good luck thus far.
20 Read // 11 Write via USB Adapter
23 Read // 14 Write via Samsung S3 @300mb
Format to exFAT and you get +1-2mb~ Write.

You need to re-run that SD card test app and change the path from sdcard to external sd card. That test ran on the internal sd card memory for the phone and not the external card. (another hint is it shows total memory size is 11GB)
Should look like this

YEah I was wondering how you got much higher spees than I did hahaha.
Max write is 13/mbs and I was hitting 10 consistantly. Max read is 24 and I couldn't get higher than 20-20.5

Yeah the USB Adapter benchmark was giving 20/11 so I was surprised when my bro sent me his benchmarks and it was higher (I was thinking it was the benchmark itself) but I guess I overlooked the internal SD.

Accessories What are the best 256GB MicroSD cards for Poco X3 Pro?

I am confused, whether to get (prices in INR):
Samsung Evo Plus 256GB -/2899
SanDisk Extreme 256GB -/3105
SanDisk Ultra 256GB -/2337
Also, does the Poco X3 Pro support or benefit from A2 sd cards?
Go for Sandisk Extreme, I guess is a good choice. And yes, all android phones with API level 28 (android 9) supposed to support it. I have this one in my phone, is not A2 but I love it.

Sandisk has a long guarantee, with the extreme micro sds i guess 10 years. And yes, i had a defect micro sd from sandisk (could not be written on it nor delete files. I had to send them an individual card number (very small with laser written?? and a piccture of the destroyed card (murdered it with sissors) and i got a new one. Very good service. i think the extreme variant ist the fastest. If you consider the long guarantee, i think the higher price will result in higher profit

The SanDisk Ultra offers 10years and Extreme has got lifetime warranty!
You are pefectly right... What could be better than a lifelong guarantee??
Jup. SanDisk do have some pretty nice warrant. I've also replaced 2 broken cards. 128gb and 64gb back in the days.
They actually shipped back 2 different packages... They were huge for such a small card ^^
But Samsung isn't bad either.
Speed mostly isn't limited by the Card but by the reader of the smartphone or the software.
A1 SD card bench. Read 41 Write 17
SD card Test:
Write: 17
Read 66

Man I greatly appreciate your detailed approach to various topics! Thanks for your benchmarks!
--Extension to my previous reply-- My SanDisk Extreme 256GB arrived yesterday and I'm gonna test today! The best thing is that they have Lifetime Warranty!

Thanks for the info. Did also test the speed in crDroid 7.12 (A11) on Poco X3 Pro 8/256 GB with the same App.
Internal Memory:
487 MB/S Write 1348 MB/s Read
Removable SD (in my case SanDisk Ultra 256 GB Class10 U1) exfat:
30 MB/S Write 74 MB/s Read
I measured the speed on the version with a 732 processor (the card readers in the devices are the same). I could not get more than 90/50 megabytes for reading / writing from a sandisk extreme card. I came to the conclusion that installing cards on this platform better than the mass Ultra Sandisk or Samsung Evo is a waste of money.

Indeed happy with the speed of Internal Memory and with the 8/256 GB version there is a lot.
I think UFS 3.1 256 GB in this price class is top value (paired with good CPU).
SD should be used as backup drive and for storage of files not opened often, like Music, Movies, etc.
@AIIIOT what app is that?
Looks pretty useful.

You're telling the truth. But, I answered the question about the memory card. There is no point in wasting money on the expensive one. The device is not the fastest card reader.

Okay.... Here we go...
200gb SanDisk Ultra which is 50% full.
400gb SanDisk ultra freshly Formated.
Will update in 3 hours when I've copied the 250gb Back to it -.-
