Is there an APP that will search out a business, store, service, ect. that can accurrately save it to your contacts. I have tried White Pages, Yellow Pages, Tel Nav, Google, and others. I search for the contact, it gives me the correct result, and the option to save the information to my CONTACTS. But when I choose to save it, the information does not go into my contacts correctly, specifically the address. Live Search on my Vogue never gave me a problem.
You say you've tried "Google"--whatever that means. Have your tried the native Google Maps app. It supposed to be able to do this.
Search > Type business Name > Touch the one you want on the map > Add as a contact > Press Save
EDIT: I just tried this and it does exactly what you want. Any/all info aboiut a company gets saved to the correct field, properly formatted into your contacts. just click Save
NOPE .. Tried Google Maps, Google Maps Contacts also. Everytime I choose save as contact, the entire address including city, state, and zip goes into the first line of the address, leaving the city, state, and zip fields blank.

Got an email with an address in it. Want to copy / paste that address into a new appointment in the calendar. So after banging my head trying to get it to work, I give up. Here's what I tried:
Built in email client (not gmail)
1. long press on address....nothing
2. menu button...nothing
3. forwarded message (to put in edit mode)...long press on address...nothing
4. tap on address finds address in google maps (which by the way it doesn't do while reading the email...)
5. now we try all sorts of convulsive activities in maps...still no go
Moving on to K9
Same sequence of steps slightly different results...but still a BIG FAT FAIL.
One would think after all the flack that apple took for copy / paste that this incredibly simple task I want to accomplish wouldn't be so brain damaging hard.
Please someone save me from the pain and agony.
Peter
When I receive a mail in GMail, a long press on the address in read mode brings up a context menu with the choices (Map, Copy). I choose Copy. I then switch to calender, tap to create and in the Location I long press and it gives me a context menu with choices (Paste, Input method). I choose Paste and voila, the address is in the Location.
Your correct, after setting up an IMAP account using the other mail client, the long press does not work to copy. Only the "Complete action using: AT&T Maps, AT&T Navigator and Maps". Seems like long press is there, but it is not mapped to anything.

I should ahve stated that in my first message that it works in gmail client. However that's not so good if you have multiple other accounts that dont funnel through gmail.
I'm having the same problem. I think I'll start shopping around for an alternative email client soon.
has there been any headway on this?
I have the same problem with my new infuse. I never realized how much I used copy and paste on my tilt 2 until I couldn't do it anymore. But thanks for saving me the trouble of trying to download K9 to fix it!
Just tested. You can do two things:
1. Click on the address to add to your contacts, or
2. Open the email, then forward, then select existing recipient, then address will be in address field and then you can copy.

I've decided to go "All Google" after having had two different Android phones and getting Gmail, but finding it horribly fustrating trying to follow Googles way of doing things.
1. All my phone contacts are stored on the phone, not as Google Contacts.
- In the "People" view on my Legend I only show "Phone" contacts.
- There is no way to move phone contacts to Google Contacts
2. I exported all phone contacts to a file and imported these into Google/Gmail contacts
- Viewing both Phone contacts and Google Contacts doubles up a lot of my contacts.
- A solution is linking these, but this only helps with the view on the phone, not the whole Google contact eco-system
- All info stored on the Phone contact, doesn't get imported into Google Contacts.
- All contacts imported are stored in "My Contacts"
- I only sync "My Contacts" with my Android phone, as the others contain people I will never ever call (example: Ebay seller)
- Now choosing only to show Google Contacts on my Legend looses picture information I have stored on my Phone Contact
3. I also use Picasa (and this is where it gets tricky)
- I have created People in Picasa and tagged thousands of pictures.
- I now have "Person A" created in Picasa and I have "Person A" in Gmail Contacts and on my Adroid phone.
- When logged into Web Albums, I select "Sync with contacts....." on "Person A" in Picasa.
- I then get "Person A" in "My Contacts" and two "Person A" in my "All Contacts".
- When I merge these two contacts, it removes it from "My contacts" and keeps one in "All contacts".
- This means "Person A" is removed from my Android phone since this is the folder I sync with it.
I think this is a mess..............it's holy fustrating!
Basically, I'm inquiring how you people use or have set up your Contacts and whats the best way to get a unison Contacts information?
I ran to a similar problem when I switch to a Google phone. I had to export my phone contacts, upload them to Google contacts and then one by one sort and organized them. It took me a week but once done its nice I can switch from one Android to another and my contacts will be safe.

What i think its contact is messy is it shows only one big group- Google contact
I sort them well in the Google contact but i can't see any groups in my phone
I have so many groups of people it is so hard to find them...
I deleted all contacts from my phone. Imported them in Google and manage them in Google.
For extra keepsake, every once in a while, I backup all my contacts to a vCard file that I keep on my PC and in my email.
So, this is my dilemma.
1. I have a SIM Card. It has contacts on it. Android automatically recognizes them.
2. I have my contacts saved to Google. Android also automatically recognizes them.
If I go to enter in a name to send a text, it brings a pull-down menu, with duplicates of everyone. One is for SIM, and one is for Google Contacts.
The Contact list IS slow with Google instead of it being saved directly to my phone. I want to save them directly to my phone. If I do so, the "send a text to" list triples, so each name appears three times.
The contact list, I can exclude everything but phone contacts. Is this something I can do in Messaging? Should I give up on Messaging and its many issues and move to Handcent and deal with its own issues?
I check before I go to bed and it is bumped off the main page?? Where are the people who can help at XDA anymore? It seems every topic I post gets pushed away
So... anyone?

Why don't you just go to your contacts page from Gmail on your PC, sort them all out how you want them and then let them automatically sync to your phone?

this is the easiest method!
Go into your contacts, for every contact that has a duplicate, do this:
1. Press Menu Button and select "Edit Contact"
2. When in the edit contact area, press the menu button again
3. Select "Join" and pick the associated duplicate contact.
This worked great for me with all my duplicate Facebook and Google contacts.
Hope that helps.
Various Google apps, such as maps, places, and so on have the option to save something found in a search as a contact. That would be great if only it worked.
For example, search for a local restaurant in Places. The result shows all sorts of properly-formatted data, such as name, address, phone number, and web page. When one selects Save as Contact, it does save it after a fashion. The name is all crammed into the First Name field and the address is all in the Street address field (with nothing for City, State, or postal code). The web URL isn't saved to the contact at all.
This makes no sense to me. This is a Google app passing data to another Google app. The data starts out properly-formatted. My Windows phone certainly has no trouble saving a fully-detailed, properly-formatted contact from Google Maps. The same thing, incidentally, happens with other Android apps that offer to save something as a contact, such as Bing (which also saved contacts perfectly on Windows Phone).
Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?
Hi
On my Android phone I am trying to delete all of my google search history.
- I've done it in chrome and deleted everything possible
- I've gone into settings, then chrome and deleted everything from there.
Then when i open chrome everything is gone as i want it.
However when i sign into my account some of my search history returns so when i start typing in the address bar, old history is shown.
To confuse matter further i've gone into my google account using a PC and viewed the 'my activity' section, when i search for the entries showing up on the phone none are shown. Also within my account i have tried deleting all search data
Does anyone know how on earth i can delete the search/browsing history properly from my account??
You've deleted your browsing history not your autofill suggestions. So if you type "Planes Trains and Automobiles" into your search bar you'll get a result, then you click on the link that takes you to facts about the movie. When you delete your search history the page with facts about the movie is gone but where you entered PT&A into the search bar remains. So if you begin to type PL... it will still have that suggestion in there as something you searched once before. You have to delete your Autofill history. Click the Chrome toolbar and select Settings>Show Advanced settings>Passwords and forms>Manage Autofill. Here you'll be able to selectively delete entries or all entries.
