(Think Tank) Flash Player 10.1 on Android 2.1! - G1 Android Development

It's possible?
Maybe you can......Previously you did a lot of thinks!!!
Great xda!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank for All

it is possible , but only for devices with sense, they have a optional command in browser for handling plugins , whit that command application can inject flash instead of flash lite -> http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desire-desire-modaco-com/311496/flash-10-1-get-it-now/

is there a link to that zip file that doesnt require you to register at that website?

Seems kinda like a waste of effort. The 2.2 AOSP just came out and we've already got 2 roms that work, albeit very early and limited ones.
It's only a matter of time before a proper 2.2 rom comes out and developers with talent should focus on getting 2.2 out there rather than trying to optimize 2.1 to run flash

would a attempt for this on dount be possible? the speed on that with out old g1's with flash would be great

At this point, it's definitely easier to just port Froyo. And that's already in progress anyway.

Try the skyfire browser. It loads up flash videos and tranlates it to something our g1's can read. As far as I understand it, the flash player on the nexus has tons of hardware specific stuff that stop it from working on other builds (processor, screen size, etc). Besides, skyfire loads up futurama episodes perfectly=p

Where do you watch Futurama?

Yea skyfire plays 90% of videos =]

That's Great.

You're not going to make flash 10 work on an arm7 device because it's compiled for arm8.
What you could try is pulling the flashlite plugin from a hero build (made for msm7k) and try to get it plugged to the new browser, since it accepts plugins.
There's coding required, though, and I've no idea about browser plugins.

I don't think this is a good idea for a number of reasons. Processing power, lack of ram, lack of storage space, small screen, etc...

Yes, I completely agree. If you simply want flash so much just buy the damn phone, you have to take in consideration what our devices are capable of. You can only push it to some point, until it goes poof. Just please, enough with the whole flash topic it's giving me a headache.

I used the flash 10 port for the evo. On kings legend. .. worked...ish. got a Facebook game to load and videos
But it was horribly slow.

Sounds great for the possibility of porting flash 10 to g1 theoretically... thought this wasnt possible. Could you go to http://www.whatismyflash.com/ with the browser to check if its using the flash 10 and not the flash lite built in in kings legend2g1 rom? :> thanks in advance

I've always wondered, are half of you stuck in some black hole with no PCs with nothing to do but watch videos all day? If you want your phone to be a laptop... go buy a damn laptop! You can get a very nice one for the same price as a Nexus One. Sheesh.

Don't start a "think-tank" thread if you, the OP, aren't going to do any thinking to begin with.

I dont think it is possible with 2.1 .....but g1 can handle 2.2 and might be able to handle flash too

i am pretty sure that Cyanogen will find a way...just like he did for 2.1

HaHa,you neednt to worry about that, cause the system of this handset is much older than ones available for G1,the machine is a very very old man ^_^,using a very very old version of Android.
SO NO NEED TO TAKE THE RISK..
Im not that technical when it comes to this, but can the hardware even handle Android?
Forget upgrading them,DUMP THEM. I'd like to see how well the "proto-android" firmware would work on the g1.....once ported of course. And where did you find these? I'd like to try to get my hands on one.
I'm not sure if these can even handle full-blown android - they have 200mhz processors for crying out loud! That said, demos show they are blazing fast (even faster than ours around the ui!) but since these were never put into full production, I doubt you can update it easily...
Good to see you have found 2 gems there... thinking of selling them? =P
dam those are some great prototype android devices, you must keep one stock default, very rare, quite valuable i think. especially the white one.

MMM~~~I will post some pics later.
What I want isnt flashing G1's ROM in onto them but ROMs from themselves and moded to fix the wlan's problem, cause their wifi cannot work properly yet.
the problem is that there's no source, so we can't really backport a wifi driver for the older kernel (does it even have wifi radio?)
For those who want with old android builds (don't know why though) go here:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/older_releases.html
download the older sdks (betas and pre-betas), they all come with emulators, you should be able to (using their tools folder) dump the system from them (or unyaff's the system included). Again there's really not much there
i doubt that you will be able to flash anything from g1 on this phone, as its screen obviously is a different res

Not really. Stanford SUSE has a ton of these. Supposedly bought them in bulk on the cheap. I had a hold of one for a while a few months ago trying to see if it would be worth the time to get production Android (then 1.1) onto it. It was pretty much a lost cause without support from HTC.

Flash 10.1 only works on Default browser(Not Dolphin)

I had a hard time figuring this one out. But now that I did I want to share. I know, I know, most of you knew this already. Anyways, for the ones who didnt, it only works with default browser. It does not work with Dophin Browser (or probably any other browser.

Does anyone know the reason why all third party browsers are not able to display Flash content? (using either Lite or 10.1)
Is it some licensing issue that the developers of the other apps don't want to get into with Adobe?
Flash works now.
Just installed flash 10.2 and now it is played in Dolphin HD 4.5.

Any Roms w/ Full Scaling Overclock, EXT4, Camera, and Camcorder?

I don't care about 2.1 anymore, I just want a fast phone now. I'm starting to regret my Hero purchase and probably won't go to the EVO(*gasp*) and will instead go for a black berry or palm something. Its plain stupid to have your own phone mess up what your typing or doing because it can't process it fast enough. I can't use my phone for web browsing(too laggy) and anything that requires typing(too laggy, mistypes abc as acb, etc)

You have to wait till the official 2.1 is released from HTC for all those features.
nope not yet
Not released, but it is possible to cook one yourself, but you would be stuck using 1.5 since the source for the kernel is required and that has only been released for the .27 kernel and the camera is only supported under 1.5 with that kernel.

I do agree that it is irritating to have slow features, But if you are running a custom 2.1 rom such as fresh or DC, I reccomend uninstalling the HTC Mms.apk, and just install the standard android 2.1 Mms.apk
Its alot smoother, in fact no lag at all.
Also the web browser on this phone absolutely sucks, it is worse than opera mobile on wm, it is unbearably slow.
Use opera mini, it loads up everything in 2-3 seconds, its very fast.
I agree totally with mjz147 about the Vanilla MMS.apk being MUCH faster then the HTC one..
Also using one of the replacement keyboards will work very well IMO. I'm currently using Swype, and loving it.
Dolphin Browser is also a great alternative to the stock one..
There are plenty of options and configurations available to make the phone much faster then stock even WITHOUT overclock.. My phone feels twice as fast as it did at stock running whatever custom rom I've run....
With all these options here.. I cant see why you'd go to a Palm or BB.. Its Android all day in this *****.

1. You need a 1.5 Rom. Those Roms come with the 2.6.27 kernel (which the source was released). Toast fixed the EXT4 and did the overclock. If you wish, I can build you a kernel with the Rom that you choose for these functions.
2. The HTC keyboard does suck in its lag. I personally like the stock Android keyboard. There's a few developers that incorporate those into their Roms and I know some have them as themes. I'll look for you.

If he stays with 2.1. But from the first message, it sounds like he's fed up with 2.1.
He can get all those features with 1.5...the kernel will have to be compiled (I have the EXT4 code, I need to add Toast's overclock patch, which is no big deal).
As for the keyboard, anything is better than the HTC one. I used to think that was the greatest keyboard until I played with stock Android. The stock Android is fast. I heard the Skype keyboard is good...haven't used it yet.
There's a gumbo 1.5c rom and an overclock here: http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc-hero-roms-hacks/10138-gumbo-1-5c-overclock.html
I'm using it, it's fast as hell and camera works great.
Not sure that you can use ext4 though, but I figure that's the least of my sacrifices.
Lets be serious, if your phone has lag at all you obviously havent done enough reading on this forum. With all the options available on this site alone you either dont know how to mod your phone correctly, or are NEVER going to be satisfied with it.
With that said, i could use a spare, i'll give $25 for it...
EDIT: Not trying to hurt anyones feelings or be big an bad over the keyboard, just stating the obvious.

[Think Tank]Flash Lite on Froyo

Hey guys,
since we know that full flash 10.1 won't work on our devices (or its an disproportionate act to port it, because its not open source and due to the fact that flash 10.1 is not meant g1's processor).
But what about flash lite (which we know is working on g1 from the sense ROMs)? I read that the froyo browser does accept plugins (well he accepts the flash 10.1 on capable phones).
So did someone tried to port it? I know this is not the major thing on froyo, its hard enough to get the rest working properly (and i really thank those devs for spending so much time on it!!!). Many people would love to see at least flash lite on our devices. And in my humble opinion little flash animations worked fine for me on the sense roms with flash lite.
I tried to install the flash lite apk on the froyo roms availlable ... but it returned only fc's for me in browser. By now i am not running froyo but i will put some rom on and try to get a logcat on it.
Greetings
Crazy Idea: Why not make a port of an open source flashplayer (like lightspark) to ARM hardware?
[Yes, I know thats probably somewhere between inconveniant and impossible, but hey, it's a think tank ]

MUCH MUCH BETTER idea. Certainly not impossible. In fact VERY POSSIBLE.
There are a few issues to work through in it though, certain dependencies on things like PULSEAUDIO, which we don't have on android (but would be nice if we did...)
There are actually THREE open source flash projects to work from.... gnash, swfdec, and lightspark. The first two are based on reverse engineering and tend to work. lightspark is from SPEC, is much NEWER, and really doesn't work yet. Lightspark is the best FOUNDATION, but is behind in FUNCTION.
Note: flash is a bad idea no matter how you look at it. You don't need it, it doesn't do anything USEFUL, I suggest just ignoring it. PURIFY! Let flash DIE!

Yeah, HTML5 FTW!
Now that iCrap officially banned flash many sites will at least alternatively offer html5 support, because otherwise the iPhonies cry.
Most of the flash content is unwanted commercials anyway. I would hate going on some site and swoop away 5MB of my data plan (which gets downgraded to gprs speed if I get above 200MB/month) with some nagging commercial video... (€: OK, this could also happen with html5... would hate it anyway)
well i know that if flash lite could be rid of its dependency on sense it would work. it has the correct settings to work . it has 2 different ways to enable flash while the flash 10.1 has only one of those. you would have to check the 2.1 port of 10.1 to understand what im talking bout. it might also need to be built on 2.1 or 2.2.

youre right ^^ the dependency of sense is the point which prevents flash for working on froyo out of the box in my opinion. I was thinking the problem of the non-sense (not nonsense lol) browser was, that it wasnt capable to use plugins. But it looks like that the whole sense framework has something to do with flash working on sense roms. Maybe some dev could take hand on that flash lite and compare it to how the flash 10.1 plugin interacts with froyo and the browser.
I aggree with all of you that flash might die and that there are better possiblities to create an active web ... but its a fact that its heavily used in the web (so with a dataplan youre not forced to use flash ... its just that i hear many ppl wanting it). I dont wanna start a discussion about usability of flash -this is just about how to port it to froyo on g1 for ppl who like to see it
Well from the port thread over in the ego forum they found that both versions of flash have a similar plugin method for the browser. I will have to find it later.

Sounds interesting! I searched the thread but didn find it. If the method of linking the plugin to the froyo browser was similiar there might be a possibility to use the flash lite without the sense framework i am curious to read that
Has anybody tried to use not just only the flash.apk but also the libs that come in sense 2.1 roms?
because missing libs can well be the cause of force closes...
alternatively we can wait until froyo comes out for sense phones like the hero...
There was another [THINK TANK] for this.... it died. Hopefully this will, too.
I tried modifying an APK to do this. I put the flash lite plugin in the flash APK and flashed on CM6.... Didn't work, their was no force closes, it did not even show up as a plugin.

Definitely. Flash is very much the standard for now, and I don't see that changing for some time. HTML5 is great for very basic video playing, but it gets hard to do things dynamically with it. Personally, I've been wishing I could watch the Daily Show on my phone.

OpenGL ES 2.0 was publicly released in March 2007[1], eliminates most of the fixed-function rendering pipeline in favor of a programmable one. Almost all rendering features of the transform and lighting pipelines, such as the specification of materials and light parameters formerly specified by the fixed-function API, are replaced by shaders written by the graphics programmer. As a result, OpenGL ES 2.0 is not backwards compatible with OpenGL ES 1.1.
aka 3d and hd games play Opengl ES

It works! This is fun, currently playing with this ROM paired with P3Droids lv250 1200mhz kernel. Runs extremely well all things considered.
Aside from the the bugs mentioned the only other issues I've found are
- Two seemingly identical stock gallery and email programs installed. Neither of which can be uninstalled via app manager.
- My computer does not see the phone when plugged in via USB and phone does not ask to connect to computer. I have not done anything with ADB yet.
- The phone will auto rotate horizontal when the keyboard is opened but will not rotate back when closed in some applications.
Ill post/edit if something new comes up

Hi there. I'm the guy that put this little thing together. I did not build this myself/from source. I just happened to take a few things that were working on various builds and glue them together. It does play 3D games and what not, but since the accelerometer does not work, it doesn't really do a whole lot of good. I'm not sure exactly what OPENGL version it has, or how to check it, but if you point me in the right direction, I'm sure I can figure it out for you. (Found this in the Build.prop: # The OpenGL ES API level that is natively supported by this device.
# This is a 16.16 fixed point number
ro.opengles.version = 131072)
As far as the issues, they have been well documented in the original thread on DroidForums. Just to break them down for you though...
Broken:
1)GPS (which also causes browser and any other location finder service associated apps to close when attempting to locate.) You can use a different browser, or set home page to something other than Google.
2)Accelerometer. I'm assuming it is because there are some new sensors included in Gingerbread. I thought it might have something to do with the akmd file, but I've tried a few different ones with no luck...
3)USB Storage. This is an easy fix with an app in the Market place called Multi Mount SD. They have a free and paid version. Dual Mount also works. These are widgets and must be used as such.
As far as the "duplicate" apps, they are different versions of the same app and are easily removed with Titanium Backup.
Most likely, this is not your every day rom. I have been using it, because it's fun to run something you had a hand in making, but it's not considered stable. With that being said, it's the easiest to use rom that we have available and no other Motorola phones really have anything else better, so enjoy what we have.
Happy Holidays / Merry Christmas / Insert whatever gives you warm and fuzzy feelings here.
PS. I am not a dev, so really can't trouble shoot anything too effectively. I've been trying different things to fix the issues, but have not had much luck. I was hoping some devs on DF would pick up on the interest in this project and be able to figure it out, but not much luck so far.
PSS. Definitely suggest flashing another kernel once you set the original rom up and do a nandroid. A lot of the 2.2 kernels work. I've had the most luck with Slayher interactive ones. Try a 1200 one. It's pretty quick...
Can you port it to Milestone please?
The Oldy Europe needs help because of Motorola's #&#$%!*^ support...
Software is a Dark Side of Motorola.

No can do, sorry. I'm not a dev, so I wouldn't even have the slightest idea how to do such a thing. Plus I dunno anyone with a Milestone to play with. From what I understand, it is quite a pain in the neck due to the differences between the GSM and CDMA.
Bro i used this it work but the camcorder isnt working and it kick me out of the browser.
Camera works
but it feel like 2.2 os with some add on with 2.3 os.
When will the hacker get a stable 2.3 os with full feature from 2.3 os???

It's fun to see whats up and coming and as long as it works well enough to show off I would call this a success! My roommate with his Fascinate still on 2.1 is peeved haha.
Thanks for your work!

Not sure about the camcorder. Mine works for me. The browser thing has been discussed many times on all Gingerbread threads. You can't go through the browser's regular home page because location services is not working. Internet works if you:
A) Change the home page to something other than Google.com
B) Get a different browser.
C) Go through the Google Search Box.
It feels like it is 2.2 with some add-ons, because that is exactly what 2.3 is. It's not a major OS revision. Most of the work is behind the scenes dealing with memory management, speed, and such. If it's not faster for you than 2.2, that's odd (if you have not flashed a new kernel with this, highly recommended). There won't be a fully functioning rom till someone is able to figure out how to get some of the proprietary drivers rewritten to work with this boot.img. Not exactly a task for a beginner. Motorola certainly is giving any handouts, so be happy with what ya have.
There are people working on it though, you just have to be patient. It's not something as simple as, "Oh, I'll just add this or that file and everything magically works."
I'm glad some of you are enjoying it though. Blackdroid's team is working on an Alpha. Still broken accelerometer with half working GPS. Hopefully in the next week or 2, he'll push some more stable builds out. Until then, just use this to show off and have a back up of your favorite stable rom. Take care...

There is a Brazilian dev trying to port the Ginger to the Milestone.
The name of the MOD is "ShadowMODBR" but it's not complete.
The Froyo version is great btw. I'm very exciting to try the Ginger version.
