Assuming its reasonable and not $30 like some other apps i could mention, I will be more then happy to pay for something like this.

Ive been impressed with FLV playback.
Have you guys had any bad experiences thus far ?

they seemed to have fixed the out of sync issue when making the video fullscreen, other then that the liitle "R" in the upper right corner is a bit annoying but nothing too bad.

Works nicely, although you can't see the FPS anymore..

This is the first time I've ran into this app and I love it. I put an episode of Dexter on my phone last night to try it out and Bam works flawlessly. I agree that the R is a dumb move but I'm sure that it will go away when they release to the market. I just hope the app isn't extremely expensive because Samsung Galaxy S plays divx out of the box.

coincidence that it expires the same day as the Droid X is released? hmm

I want to follow this because I want to have my blog updated

Installed & play more video with avi, flv, wmv, rmvb format... it's work very very smooth
if it can play video with subtitles .srt format, it's perfect
Many thanks!

Thanks. The quality is amazing. I hope they get rid of the R in the top-left corner in the next version.

a player for HD2 that can play mkv files (WITH subtitles)

I tried CorePlayer, newest version, it plays em perfectly, but NO subtitles.
Was on website, as of 7/02/10 they have NO support for subtitles in mkv files.
Any programs out there that has?
did you try with the TCPMP build which works on the Leo? MKV is just a wrapper, so if the codec is a supported one it could be possible to read it correctly
Found and tried it.
It doesnt run the mkv's smoothly like CorePlayer, lags a whole lot.
And no subtitles here either. (yes I tried both)

I am looking for a player that does this too, I have Sompy to try, I'll let you know if it works.
Well Sompy was an abject failure
i guess the search continues.
same problem..
No solution, and both players together are inconsistent
tcpmp
tcpmp works flawlessly if you run it from the memory card for the record, still no subs
any news on this? I would like to play mkv files directly, too. I don't want to mess with conversion..
BTW, I couldn't get TCPMP work for MKV files. It just crashes..
We need to get the guys at videolan to create us a vlc windows mobile player. I always use this on a PC and have no problems with codecs etc seems to play anything.

Will it support the internal subtitles of matroska files? And will it also support ASS which is used most of the time?
I'll give the TCPMP with subtitle support another go with my HD2. On my Blackstone it wasn't usable because of lags...

That is simply untrue. I have a couple of movies on my HD2 that are 720p and play in core player just fine. There was infact an entire topic dedicated to seeing what video would work on the HD2, was months ago but I'll see if I can hunt it down.
That turned out to be a whole lot easier to find than I thought it would be, here, great thread to learn what your HD2 can do video-wise.

Sadly, you did not even bother to read through that thread. Coreplayer itself is hardcoded not to play 720p video files. What you have are only files that used to be 720p, but down encoded to fit HD2. Take a good look at the resolution of those test videos. None of them even go near 1280x720, which is what 720p is defined as.
Not to be putting you down, but I've done a ton of video testing and encoding....and it's just not possible for now on the HD2.

My mistake, I had read that thread through, but as I mentioned I was recalling it from memory and posted it as soon as I found it. I guess the frequent references to "hd" in the thread are what stuck in my memory.
Still 720x480 looks just stunning on the phone, so go download all the vids anyway

That sounds very contrary to your previous statement, I guess those 720p files suddenly disappeared from your phone?
No worries, it's a very common newbie mistake.
I don't know if I can really consider myself a "newbe" considering I'm a video editor and regularly have to pick and choose the resolutions I want to export to. As far as my HD video my knowledge is pretty extensive.
I think I was just too trusting of the movies I downloaded in "HD" actually being what they said they were. Your previous post was the first time I questioned it and looked at the movie stats.
I honestly believed the movies on my phone were 720p, I was wrong, atleast no-one died this time.

That's why it's never good to assume. It's a very good example where having more knowledge makes one overlook very basic stuff.
At least it makes you more open to checking the specs before shooting off replies again.....I'm glad I've contributed in some way.

rockplayer,awsome app,can play rmvb\avi Fluently!

today ,i have seen a great app in a forum www.hiapk.com app's name is rockplayer. i have received a beta vision. i test it in my nexusone and found it is so powerful than any mediaplayer in android.
1\it can play rmvb very good
2\it can play avi very good
have fun, all this own to the author!
sorry for remove the app. a gay said that I should seek the consent of the Author. I do not know of the Author so I think i should remove the app.
It actually plays avi files at a respectable rate! The quality is pretty bad though. In other words, I can play an MP4 file and it looks much worse than if I play it in a standard media player. At least it plays avi files though!
Wow, MUCH better than wuzhenhua player, works pretty flawlessly. Tested it with a .wmv, .mp4, and .avi on my evo. Also tried to make it run a mkv, there's video and sound but its a bit more choppy. Please keep us posted as this great app is developed, thanks op!
screenshots? and does it play mkv's
Forshao, don't you think that you should inform the software developer in advance before you post the TEST VERSION here?

Yeah, but choppy. I tried to play a 720p clip on my Dell Streak and it was barely 3 frames per second.
Plays avi files pretty great on my evo, a few audio syncing issues tho. Also tried a wmv file thats just below the res of the screen, averaged around 10fps.
works good on motorola milestone
Works pretty well on X10 (rmvb) ... XD
I tried a random scene release xvid file, played it fine w/o any sync issues in the first 5 min. Will froyo help with the framerate issues for mkv at all? Not really sure how the "speed boost" really comes in to play here.

It works really well, .mkv files play choppy, but any of the .mkv files I converted to mp4 play great. Divx rips play really well, they often look clearer on the small screen than on my monitor!
Been using it for weeks. Plays the most formats I've ever seen of any android player. Best part... Its free!!! Wish I could find a stand alone player for .swf format movies.
Now they want 10 bucks for it!!! Not worth it. But you can still use it. NAGWARE
ROCKPLAYER plays all avi files....
Its all I need )
doesnt work with hdmi out
If its not in the market I won't buy it.
never tried it yet, might in a bit though...

beta version gave me a bad humming buzzing sound when it got quiet in all my .avi files hopefully they fixed it..
that's weird.. i haven't heard any humming sound, although avi audio and video lags. i don't know why.
oh and i tried an mp4 720p video on it, such lag... i'm not sure how i feel about it. it's an otherwise good player.
Yeah, I downloaded the new release today, they changed it to ad/support or pay if you don't want to see ads.
Videos I had encoded into mp4 that played pretty well before, and flawlessly through the phone's video player, now are laggy, especially when you skip through the video.
mkv's still lag, avi/divx still plays well.
I hope they fix all this soon.
I've been using it since it was leaked awhile back, love it.

I don't have any except for when seeking through the files or playing after pause. For a few short seconds audio is choppy or there is none. Also so far I can't get subs to work. Oh and I forgot about HD, well you can fahget about it. 720p vids of bleach, in mpg format, that also seem to have low bitrates since its only 300 plus mbs didn't work. That was with the beta though for the latter.
It only supports .srt UTF-8 subtitles currently.
The application definitely needs some polish. It can't play most HD files yet, and needs more support for other subtitle formats and audio types, but it's the most capable player on Android. One of the only ones that'll play divx files flawlessly.
I love it used the beta for ever but yes it is out of beta and on the market get it while you can
One thing I like about rockplayer that I haven't seen posted anywhere is that it plays flv's. I have ton of those(I had a love affair with youtubedownloader for a while!)
How do I associate it with video files to make it the default video player?
Should I be able to open a file on my LAN via the wireless network in ESTRong explorer and play it?

[APP] VPlayer divx player , divx , xvid , mkv , rmvb, flv

VPlayer NEED testers for DROID X and DROID 2
Version: 0.7.7a7
1. Basic streaming support. When you click a video link (http, rtsp) in somewhere, you may choose VPlayer to open it.
2. Fix audio bugs in 3gp, wmv, etc.
3. More responsible when openning a video.
4. Fix the bug in subtitle sync.
---------------------------------------------------------
I've developed a media player which can play divx/xvid, rmvb, flv,
you can find it from market by search vplayer
At this time, VPlayer is just an alpha version and only support device with neon support and Android 2.x
VPlayer using FFmpeg, can play almost all video formats, Divx/Xvid, real media, flv, mkv.
VPlayer is almost the best video player in performance.
According to feedback of users, VPlayer acts better than other similar media players in divx, flv, rmvb playback.
Now VPlayer is in alpha version, only basic video playback capabilities. But it made perfect, it takes into account
the use of the various situations encountered, for example, while you are watching video, a call is coming.
VPlayer will continue to improve in the future, some basic characteristics of video player (such as subtitles support)
will be added on asap, and some special features are in roadmap.
The functionality and performance are most important feature of VPlayer. I plan to add hardware decoding and streaming
I try to make it clear, but my English is so poor...
hmmm, I also have to improve my English performance
Moderator edit: This app has changed into an expiring trial version, which is not allowed on XDA. Therefore this thread has been closed.
Hmmm, i get no results...
Sent from my rooted X10i using tapatalk
oh, i see.
perhaps your rom dosen't support neon.
I'm using it now and i'ts working great. You have the trackball to pause the video. But is there a way to make the trackball fastforward or rewind the video? I know that I can do that with the scroll bar, but it would be nice to use the trackball too?
I find it .
I'll try it today.

No. However the Andoird version must >= 2.1 and the phone must support NEON.
Downloaded it earlier; so far so good. It plays my flvs smoothly, and the app is much smaller than rockplayer. I'll test it out with some different file types tonight.

What's the benefit of using this over RockPlayer which plays even more formats and is probably also using ffmpeg? http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/0...e-host-of-video-files-on-your-android-device/
It can play my .avi files alright but sometimes the colours from one frame fade into the next.

Video Formats
What format and settings are you using for the videos? I've used a couple of players so far, and both mobo and mvideoplayer have done well for me so far, but specific video formatting can be sketchy. I've found that its best to remaster any vids I grab to a universal format that does a reasonable job of compression vs quality. I don't recall the settings I've been using off the top, but I can check once I get home from work and let you know what works best for me.

stock is best
i think the stock player is best ... but it would be nice if someone would compile VLC to work on android... just a thought.
I use Vplayer and it plays everything i need to, trial is free and says it only will work for 30 days or something like that but i have used it past that with no problems
