Anyone getting tired of how dumb tech writers are? - General Topics

I just read a bunch of articles on the upcoming iPhone 4G and the Evo 4G. So I'm reading article 1 on the iphone and they are saying on yahoo tech news that its called iphone 4G because it runs on the new 4G network thats up to 10 times faster then 3G,,, I just said? huh? WTH is this guy talking about? Then I goto article 2 which was a nice write up on the HTC Evo 4G. Their reason it was called 4G was that it was the 4th generation of the Evo. Sorry for ranting a bit but how do these people have jobs like these and get to review gadgets ahead of time when they are technically retarted. .......and thats what grinds my gears!

Do you have links? I'd like to read this.

Agreed. Some of the mainstream "tech writers", even from major newspapers and Web sites, don't know anything about the underlying technology; this is why they think iPhone 4 supports 4G.

Links please

Add in political bias and having to keep sponsors paying - and you get a famous blooper like the one below:

Sprint 4G app Challenge

For now Sprint holds the keys to the nation’s only two 4G phones, and on top of that Android is the only OS running on either of them. So why not flaunt the fact a bit more by means of the Sprint 4G App Challenge, right? And this isn’t some measly contest either, winners in each of five categories will walk away with $50,000, a year of Sprint service (because you fifty grand couldn’t cover it), and a year’s membership to the Sprint Professional Developers Program. Oh and they will get to chill with 4G App Challenge partner Wired at their 2011 CES VIP party in Vegas.
Entertainment, gaming, productivity, social networking, and multimedia apps will be judged by a panel comprised of Sprint technology executives and a gaggle of others coming from Wired, Reddit, and Ars Technica. They will be judged on functionality, design, creativity, and intuitive navigation and should take advantage of the unique features of the HTC EVO 4G and HTC Epic 4G along with Sprint’s high-speed WiMAX network.
So are you a developer that thinks you have what it takes? Head over to the app challenge page to enter by November 5th, 2010 and check out the Sprint 4G developer guide at their Sprint ADP site.
http://phandroid.com/2010/09/15/sprint-launches-4g-app-challenge/
I think XDA should enter the XDA app!!!
haha, yeah I'm sure sprint wants to give money to the people who are telling everyone how to root phones and get free hotspot
Me thinks I should enter...
Thanks for the info!
Interesting, looks like they are looking for something which really takes advantage of all that 4G can offer, which to me translates to "write us an app that sucks as much bandwidth as possible", which you think would be counter-intuitive for a carrier. At any rate, your app would need to have video, preferably two-way to take advantage of the front-facing camera. Although I can't imagine what kind of "creative" things you can do there... I've basically just described Fring/Qik. I'll be interested to see what kinds of entries come out of this. Part of me wants to try it myself but I'm not brimming with awesome ideas.

Is a VERIZON IPHONE possible!?

I just spent a couple hours yesterday writing an in-depth article about the possibilities of a Verizon iPhone.
http://jonsuh.com/2010/09/verizon-iphone-more-proof-than-ever/
Now, AT&T and Verizon are both working to convert their networks to LTE (Long Term Evolution). Verizon is planning to begin rolling out LTE to 30 large cities by the end of 2010 while AT&T by mid 2011 (the first city for AT&T’s LTE is said to be Dallas).
The iPhone 4 uses a micro SIM card. LTE technology is said to require a micro SIM card as well. Pictures of a Verizon 4G LTE SIM was released by Engadget earlier in July.
If there was ever a time in the history of a possible Verizon iPhone, it’s now.

So what do you think? How possible do you think a Verizon iPhone is? Would you even want one?

I'm trolling? I was responding to a troll, but of course, in XDA fashion, anti-Apple trolls are not trolls at all.
But to add to the thread, I think that it's possible but there are certainly going to be some conflicts between Apple and Verizon. AT&T got on its knees for Apple but Verizon will not do the same. Like most of their other phones, they will want a ton of control of over the software; something that Apple will simply not allow. Overall though, they both definitely want in on each other and it's only a matter of time.
Would I want one? No. Verizon would probably price the iPhone even higher than AT&T currently does. In a perfect world I'd want a jail broken iPhone 4 w/ WiMax on Sprint's amazing $59.99 EPRP + $10 plan.
FWIW, I'm a current dual EVO 4G and iPhone 4 owner.

Many people misunderstand me when I tell them I want an iPhone. They automatically assume it's because an an Apple fanboy or I want to be another one to jump on the bandwagon.
Truthfully, I'm rather disappointed with some of the app development with Android; maybe I need to be patient.
Some simple truths are (at least in my opinion)
The todo and productivity apps on Android suck. The only apps that would come close would be Astrid, but even then, it doesn't even touch Appigo's ToDo or Cultured Code's Things.
I'm on Facebook a lot and the Facebook app sucks. I don't think many would disagree with me on that one.
I do not like the Android Market setup. I realize one of the hate topics for Apple is the "control" over their apps. Yes, Apple does seemingly have a tight grip on their app store; however, when I try and browse for apps on the Android Market, I have to scroll through 75% garbage, trash, worthless crap. I waste more time shuffling through crap! Unless I know the actual name of the app, it's a huge time waster to come across new apps.
With all these new Android phones out, sometimes it's like pulling tooth and nails to get the latest OS update. One thing Apple does right is push the latest OS to practically all the devices, with the exception of some of the 1st and 2nd generation ones (which they have served their time). Unlike, for example, the Eris, which didn't even last ONE YEAR on the market, didn't get 1.6 and now is not going to get 2.2.
Do I love the fact that I have control over my phone? I guess? I mean I know enough to customize the image files on apps to customize the look, root and flash custom ROMs, run adb cmds on my phone, what more control do I need? Does it help me be more productive and is my phone more of a smartphone because I do? Not really. It's cooler, faster, and customized, but other than that, it does what every other smart phone does. Get e-mail, surf the web.
I had an iPod Touch with the productivity apps, but it became cumbersome to carry both my Touch and my phone and not having a constant internet access on my Touch became more of a nuisance.
I guess it's because I have a specific workflow, and the iPhone tends to be friendlier with it with the kind of apps and functionality it provides.
I'm not slamming Android; I'm not praising the iPhone. It's just my personal preference.
What would piss me off is VZW releasing the iphone before giving WP7 a chance.
good day.

I was asking an honest question, there is nothing an Iphone does that is usable that my Nexus One does not, not for myself anyway and I do not have to deal with the BS that comes with owning an apple product.

edit: nm not worth it.
Honestly I kind of hope they do get the iPhone on Verizon. I'm sick of hearing people trash At&t and their "****ty" service. I for one have not had any problems, and have noticed that it's the people with the iPhones that are complaining about At&t's service. You wanna know why the service/reception is so bad? It's cause there's MILLIONS of people using the same damn phone and it causes network traffic. The iPhone is At&t's number 1 phone and priority so, of course, they get dibs. So when there's millions of people trying to do FaceTime or YouTube or whatever, of course it's not gonnna be SUPER fast. I just wanna see Verizon try to handle what the iPhone will do to their network and see how they handle the traffic, etc. etc. Then people will realize it's really all the phones causing traffic and not the network.
verizon will get the iPhone with LTE, and when their new network launches they will launch the LTE iPhone along with it. No sooner, no later.
Verizon iPhone
Well i don't know if the Verizon iPhone is possible or not, a lot of blogs and analysts are saying they are in production.

is this video true :(

im a girl that wanted a android phone so bad especially nexus s but this guy review have changed my mind : what u guys think about this ? is there alot of farts apps on market?
here is the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CZGX5dzcR4
please share if its true what he said cause i need a phone real bad.
being a girl means nothing. this video looks blah, 7 minutes; wont even bother watching this video.
https://market.android.com/ look for yourself. anybody can put a youtube video of their opinions.
if YOU like the nexus s, just get it.. you don't need any of our approvals to get the phone.
i personally like it and so do many of the users here with the exception of the j0hnz troll and some other guys.
if you end up NOT liking the phone, just return it.... its not that complicated.
Just go with your gut feeling. Don't second guess yourself. If you've shown this much interest into the nexus s, then give it a try. Like zephik said, you could always return it. Everyone has their own opinion. Let us know yours.

The guy in the video is ingrained/invested in iOS. He's used to it. If you've got $$$ invested in iOS apps like I bet he does, I'd probably stick with it too...just like I'm much more likely to stick with Android.
Nexus s is way better than iphone period.
My friends are really jealous about my Nexus s and call it "super iphone" lol.
no additional charge for tethering is a huge plus as well.
Get Nexus S. or wait for galaxy s 2
ya thanks guys ill do that. i have played with nexus s and love the speed and i already have the 3 cases for nexus s but not the phone yet as soon its released april 28th to rogers ill get it
uh this guy is complaining about updates with the nexus s and the iOS app store has SOOOO may crap apps it is crazy. Just go test them both out.

We know that you never said that you're special. Humans can imply things without saying them. We at XDA don't condone any prejudice towards any cultures, ethnicities or genders.
I don't see why being a girl would affect a person's ability to use a device. If anything, it should relate towards your personality (a person who isn't tech savvy vs. a person who is)
I just recently got the Nexus S here in Vancouver as well(when it released on April 7th. with the other carriers, and it has only been an awesome experience thus far. I watched the video you posted up until the guy said how he used androids in the past and stuff about how software is not updated. This guy is blowing crap out of his ass, cause he ain't got a clue. Nexus S is pure android and gets updates straight from google, and doesn't go through any manufacturers or carriers. If this guy doesn't even know that then you can pretty much take the rest of his video as a joke cause he clearly hasn't done his research.
As for the girl comment, I agree with Zephik, it really depends on whether or not you're tech savy. And even if you're not that tech savy I'd say Android is user friendly enough out of the box that you'll be fine.

ummmmmmm....don't mean to be rude but nexus s is not a sports where there will be difference between boy and girl. you just discriminated yourself for being a girl by asking if it's easy for girls. is there such thing that is easy for guys but not for girls?
p.s. i'm a dude btw =)
This guy is an idiot. Go to best buy: Try a Nexus S; Try an iPhone 4. If you don't like the Nexus S, buy an iPhone 4. If you don't like the iPhone 4, buy a Nexus S. These decisions are not that hard, regardless if you're a girl or not.
IMO, the Nexus S is a great device, although I am starting to grow weary of it, and have been more curiously looking into the G2x and the Galaxy S II. So, now I would say, if you have ruled out the iPhone 4 as a contender, then decide between the Nexus S, G2x, and the Galaxy S II, and at this point, if it were my decision, I would go with a G2x. If you can wait a few months, go with the Galaxy S II, or wait; I'm sure there will be something new unveiled soon enough. Google apps are amazing, market apps are starting to improve, and once again, this guy is an idiot.
I'll sell you my Nexus S if you want. For a super price. Hahah
sofia-captivate, iPhone is limited gadget. Apple placed users in a certain scope. Android not limited, everything is in your hands.
Android - this's a freedom everywhere & everytime.
iPhone - many problems for your freedom)

The only accurate thing he said was that the Samsung Vibrant didn't get updates, which is a fault of Samsung and/or the carrier modified firmware. The Nexus S is a pure Google device and does not rely on manufacturers or carriers to play with the firmware - all updates to Android are released and made available to all Nexus users.
This guy is a bit weird too...he's almost whispering, moves his eyes/head and hands about as though he's had a few drinks, and goes on too much about how great iOS is over Android. A comparison is fair, his video is heavily biased toward Apple.
Also the Nexus S is a lot better than the Vibrant with better hardware and clean software, so comparing it to a Nexus S is like comparing a Chevy to a BMW. I'm very happy with the Nexus S.
when she mention being a girl, may be she's not a tech savy or she thinks she has small hand for the actual phone, either way the NS is a great phone, used the galaxy S i9000 before, even after rooting it, it slows down very often, all the manufacture crap inside is a bad thing, NS is pure google, NS is fast, theres no competition.

A friend who's a big fan of Apple products told me the iPhone 5 was supposed to be Steve Jobs' vision of the "perfect phone". Of course, I told him that's ridiculous because they were continuing development after his untimely passing. Maybe future development really will make it the phone of phones.

The only time I will ever buy an iPhone, is when it is actually better!
haha
THE IPHONE 5, like the 4 but taller. that's it. hahahahah!
The only time I will buy an iPhone is when it can download food.
I will only buy the iphone if I need to test my designs for app development purposes.
Apple did claim that samsung is a copy of apple,
except the part that it is bigger, faster, better, has NFC, MHL, HD resolution, etc.
Spoke with a Verizon Rep the other day whose family member works in Tech support, and fields the calls coming in from iPhone 5 customers.
I was told that he has over 2 pages of known issues regarding the iPhone 5. I don't know how many issues are on each Page, but it must be a lot.
He mentioned that customers would be well advised to wait until some of these issues are resolved.
That most likely will never happen;
Customers waiting, unless it's on a line, in the rain, during a Hurricane, to purchase one or two, and Apple resolving all the issues.
I did a little research afterward, and see that there are some issues, to say the least.
I have a friend who talks so much crap about iPhone, yet got an iPod Touch a few weeks back and raves about how much he LOVES it.
Just shows how ignorant some people are.

I am seriously underwhelmed by the Iphone 5
Eh, Apple this Samsung that. When Apple clears up most of the 5's issues, Apple fans and Android fans will still complain about each other. So long as there is competition we still keep on getting newer tech. The arguments on the different forums is funny as hell. Reminds me of the verbal battles ppl would have at the speed shop or the bar; Chevy vs Ford vs Dodge vs Foreign cars. Pissing contests are always good for a laugh when you sit on the side and watch the BS fly.
