by double tapping the home button, you can bring up a custom 5x4 screen that lets you place shortcuts/widgets on it that opens over top whatever app you're running
seems like a really great idea

Re: QuickDesk Beta
Great idea, very useful. Must have app

This is...sexy. I am enjoying it. It took me a few seconds to figure out how it worked, but once I got it, It's sexy. hehehe.

Oh man. Genius. Thanks dude.
EDIT: landscape mode would be nice.

Hrm, just tried on 2.2 and it doesn't seem to work unless I set it up wrong. When I tap the home button twice it just takes me home lol.

you need to set it as your default launcher, then in quickdesk, you can set up your launcher as whatever you want

So, basically, clear defaults, and when you press home, and it says what launcher do you want to use, instead of launcher2, adw, or launcherpro (whatever you're using) you press "QuickDesk" then you double tap the home button, bring up quickdesk (you have to tap pretty quickly) and then press options - preferences. Then click 'default home' and set it back to your launcher. There, you can also change the delay for the double tap. Default is 300 miliseconds.

It's a cool app! Now I m thinking of moving the apps from my ADW apps dock to the QuickDesk, so I hv access to those apps anytime, anywhere!
Thanks for the great app!

I got it set as: long press search button

Me2, and Home key assign back to ADW Launcher itself, with dock disabled.

Is it like Power Strip?
Edit // market didnt work some minutes ago.. now it does. Its not like power strip

I'm loving this app. Thanks for the notification!

I can't make a decision between this and power strip.

I love this app! Very useful!

Sexy as hell

Very nice, two suggestions, add the option for a notification bar, and have it close on widget selection.

When you are in the (Home++) homescreen, hit the menu button (left button on the Xperia with four small squares on it) then you'll see a menu popping up with 'preferences' in the lower left corner.
Home++ is the best and nicest looking i came across.
Helix for Donut

Visual Task Switcher

It feels like a WebOS multi-tasking.solution for android. What do you guys think if it (in the market)?
Im using it with CM6, it launches from longpress of the homekey for me and I really like it a lot
Update: helpful for non CM6 users, longpress for search can now launch VTS.

Regardless of the feeling that this is an astroturfed post, I'll try it since there are three things about WebOS that I wanted to make love to after leaving my Palm device. This covers one such concern.
After approximately fourteen seconds with this app, I can say that if it holds up on resource usage, it will never, ever leave my phone.
Single click brings up my "open" apps.
Double click takes me back to home.
Triple click replicates a unicorn out of my camera lens that burps rainbows and farts lasers.
Its as close to app cards as we will get on Android. Kudos to whoever is behind this.
Checked it out, all is good... only if we can map this to home button LONG press action, to replace the current task switcher.
Good look with finding this app and telling us!!! I think its pretty sweet and works well, the only gripe I have with it, is that on my EVO is kills leap when I hit the home button
Desperately needs the option to set launch button.
-edit
If you use cm6 you can change visual task switcher to replace the default home long press in the settings
Settings > cyanogen mod settings > input settings
Amazing now...
I'm using this with power stripper..amazing
I'm using cm6.
Liking this. Thanks for the tip. Id like a free memory read out on the screen since that is about the only reason I use a task killer. But is pretty sweet for switching between tasks.

How do you switch the home screen it forwards to? It seems to default to sense and I can't get it to go to ADW.

You can't use it with a custom launcher, try deleting any other launcher then it might forward correctly. Or if your on a sense rom just ban/remove sense
~edit~ I just did that and it works fine. You have to have only VTS and the launcher you want to use active.

Hitting the home button twice reverts home to ADW, I use LP.. I think the information is correct.
I really like the app but needs to mature a little more before I could use it to replace long-press-home, which I use all the time
Did you even try what I suggested?

I tried that before you suggested it. VTS needs more development, it just doesn't integrate with a custom setup very well yet.

if you set as a launcher then it will have it's own app drawer

I noticed that when trying it out. It was quite disheartening since I REALLY love the app and enjoy being able to modify which items are where on the screen layout, but without an app drawer, it's kinda.... useless.
Update: Looks like Beta 2 has been released, and app drawer functionality has made it's way back in.
Horray for the updated features as well as being able to use it as my launcher replacement!
I'm not sure if this is a bug, so I might file it as a feature request on the bug reporting page - Pressing the "Home" button on an HTC EVO doesn't bring you back to the main launcher page, instead leaves you either in an app drawer view, or in a settings menu. To get back to the launcher, you need to press the "Back" button several times.

I also find this frustrating, but overall the launcher is excellent.
I do suffer with FC's at times which just seem to not stop, but I'm overlooking these while in beta stage.

I've posted a bug report about the home button and got a response. Hopefully they end up getting a fix out for it relatively soon.
I think some of the FC's you might be getting are from the Android version you're running. You have a Sony X10? Aren't you running 1.6? I'll have to look further, but I think that the app is compatible with Eclair or above currently.
Great home replacement app! I do have some pet peeves though:
- As others have said, you cannot return to your old homescreen even when pressing the Home key several times. It would be nice for it to revert to a previous home launcher (e.g. ADW, Launcherpro) unless prompted again.
- Is it possible to make use of K9 Mail instead of GMail for the email client? A plugin of some sort would be mighty fine.
Other than that, this might be my next favorite app for Android.

If you enter the App Drawer and press Menu -> Home Settings -> Home Switching -> Toggle "Switch Homes"
I think this is what you are referring to? This should allow you to use the Home button to toggle between SS and your main launcher.
EDIT: Beta 3 was released. http://gsfn.us/t/1yjjb
Fixes "Home" button while using SS as primary launcher. I <3 the devs of this app, they REALLY listen!

Crap I gotta ask:

In stock launcher...how do you change the apps in the dock?
Thanks
I dont think you can, which is why im now trialing launcher pro and adw. Think im preferring launcher pro ATM, as the scrolling is buttery smooth
Launcher pro runs fastest of all I think once adjusting....the speeds in.preferences.
The Note Widgets are sweet tho!

I made a small home button launcher replacement, mainly for myself to overcome my new note 2 'bulkiness' when it comes to switch tasks quickly. Give it a try and let me know if you found it useful.

very useful app. thanks for sharing.
an idea from me: add a swipe option for opening the app. for ex. horizontal swipe open up the HomeFlip.

It depend on the ROM you are running, most stock Android will popup the task manager when pressing Home for few seconds, HomeFlip should preserve this behavior by default.
I'll check CM9 (this is what you are running right ?) internals to see if there is a way to hijack this, but keep in mind that I try to keep HomeFlip as non-invasive as possible, so any features that require additional permissions or dirty tricks is a no go for me, Respect peoples phone is my policy
Thanks.

I know the long-press home action, and of course, I don't like it . I have a cheap and weak phone (HTC explorer), so your animation seem a bit laggy . I have a dedicated button for recent apps, but it take about 1-1.5 second to load . So go to home and tap app icon is even faster than using the recent apps menu .
Looking for the update . By the way, the apk size is tiny, but cached process need 10MB, is that normal ?

You can disable the animation from settings (context menu).
HomeFlip to not not cache anything by itself, but it is possible that the OS itself cache information (i.e. icons), I'll have a look.
Anyway, Android is getting good at managing memory itself, the times where you had to manually kill tasks are hopefully over.
Thanks.

HomeFlip Version 1.01 available now:
changes:
- Settings / Added support for multiple launchers.
- Settings / Added background dimming customization.
Full theme customization coming up next, stay tuned.
