USB tethering - Touch Pro2 CDMA

I have a tp2 on verizon. When i plug in the phone if i choose Internet Connection Sharing will i be charge the extra phone as modem fee by verizon, or is it like the wifi router in it being free?

I think they are going to charge you unless you run the silent teather thing. I think it was called ICSInstall.CAB. Ive been using the usb teather for a while since installing that and have not seen any charges.
Although thats one of the things Im concerned about with the new verizon mr2. Im hoping that still works without getting nailed by the big V.

The tethering in Energy Rom does not let verizon see you tethering. I have used his rom recently and have tethered with no additional charges on my bill. I have even used it to play games online. You can surf safely using your TP2.

I can't say with 100% certainly but I believe you can use WiFiRouter as well. It's pretty slick. You run it and connect to the internet then you can connect to it with any other wifi device. It does have encryption as well so you can create a secure (well, semi-secure) hotspot. Pretty quick too. I found this thread which has lots of user feedback if your interested:

Wouldn't just using the USB Tether product hide the tethering from Verizon without having to use the cab that you mentioned?

Wireless Tether Question

When I use this at home it seems to work great. When I try and use it in my office at work it will not work. What would cause this to work in one spot and not in another. I get a signal and can talk on the phone just cannot get wireless tether to connect. Any help would be appreciated. I am on the Fresh 1.1 rom
any suggestions ?
This is really odd.
Since your phone is broadcasting a signal, the physical location of the device should have absolutly no bearing on if or if it won't broadcast.
This is a complete shot in the dark. Do you have a program that uses GPS location to kick off events? Like Locale?
Maybe the location you are at Wi Fi signal maybe getting blocked/jammed.
Not sure how stricked corp policies for you may be, but I have seen places that block Cell and Wifi signals. Especially around hazardous materials.
Are you using the same laptop/pc to access it in both places, or are you using your work laptop at work, and home pc at home?
In my case, my work laptop won't connect as they've disallowed adhoc wireless connections.

I really wish it could Spoof a standard WiFi instead of Ad-Hoc. Nintindo Wii won't connect to Ad-Hoc either and my phone is my only form of Internet at the house. I have tried in the past using ICS on my laptop with a Wireless router but I can't ever seem to get it to work. Never can get a connection to the internet.
This is slightly off-topic, but still pertaining to the subject at hand. Do you have the "phone as modem" option enabled on your phone plan? Are you using Sprint?

WiFi Tether doesn't require either of these. Simply routes the phones data through an Ad-Hoc network broadcast by the on board Wi Fi Adapater.
EDIT: Well it does require Sprint...lol. Put doesn't require "phone as a Modem" or the Tether Package...I actually don't think Sprint even offered me a Tether package.

I think Sprint has disallowed the usage of phones as modems due to heavy data usage or some such? I forget exactly what I read or where I read it, but I read something along those lines at some point.
The reason I ask is because I wonder if there is a danger of Sprint investigating my data usage, should I use too much data during one billing cycle. I believe the cap limit was something like 5 gigs before Sprint disallowed it?
I don't know exactly how much can they prove you were actually tethering, but it has been know that Sprint (or a lot of cell phone companies for that matter), do cancel accounts for over usage of data. And yes, all the sprint "unlimited" data plans are subject to a 5 GB data cap.

I heavily use my tether, I generally pull no less than 3 gigs a month. They have yet to ask any thing about it to me. Just keep it under 5 and you'll be OK. technically I don't feel I am breaking any rules, the data is going through the phone either way. I am just displaying it on my PC Screen.

Like I said, I pull 3 Gigs a month. Kind of outrageous for just a smart phone to use. I browse the web, email, and IM daily from my laptop all while tethered. 3 or 4 hours a day.
I will say that I do not download torrents/music/videos on it. That would eat up my 5 gb cap quick. Most of what I do download are smaller files I need for work from FTP sites and stuff. No file alone is more than 100 MB or so. I do not think there is a way for them to tell that you are tethered. Legally they are not allowed to capture and build your packets to see what exactly you are downloading. IE: Flash Videos and EXE files or Online Game data that the phone would have no buisness trying to use.
I don't mind the questions at all, I would hate to see your plan canceled as well. Keep in mind, what I say is only my own thoughts/oppionions/experiences and is by no means to be considered accurate.
I love discalimers.
I may put in a suggestion for WiFi Tether devs to put in a data counter that keeps track of multiple uses, not just the current one. This way you could see how much you have used over time. Currently it does show Up/Down for the current use.
Yeah, Sprint does offer a 40 dollar PAM addon, but this circumvents it by just sharing the existing connection over WiFi. Phone as modem actually initiates a different data connection entirely, and that can be detected by sprint. Since we aren't doing that though, that's how we can get away with it.
On a different note, KCarpenter, when you mentioned adhoc and your Wii, I'm wondering if you could take a DD-WRT or tomato based router and run it in wireless bridge or repeater mode with your phone. I have both at home, and one already running like that, So it should be simple to test it out tonight when I get home. Basically you just have to have the same ssid and wireless security key to do seamless handoff, and a DD-WRT or tomato based router (wrt54g by linksys or whr-hp-g54 by buffalo)

That would definitely be a nice addition to the WiFi Tether app. I believe I pulled around 200 MB the one time I tried gaming from the WiFi connection, though I can't recall for sure. If you do intend to suggest that, might you also suggest a setting to reset the counter, so that we could reset it monthly?

So I do have a wrt54g router. It is running the factory firmware, not tomatoe. Not sure how all that works. I will need to do a little more research on that. If you wouldn't mind testing it out for me, that would be freakin awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just need to get my son into the Wii Shop so that he can spend the gift card he got for it.
Also as far as flashing the tomatoe firmware. I have been unsuccessful at resetting the Admin password on that router. I haven't been able to change the settings on it for months and really just kind of gave up. can I flash it with out having the password? The reset doesn't seem to work on it, just flashes the power light repeatedly until I let off of the reset pin.

Well, there are several flavors of the WRT54G, and they vary a lot on what you can do with them. If you've got JUST the WRT54G and not the 'S' model, then depending on what version that your router is, you can put different versions of DD-WRT on it. Only the versions of it prior to v5 (you can see the version on the bottom) are compatible with tomato firmware.
I've got two of the WRT54G, one V5 and one V8. They both run DD-WRT micro, and I used both of them for a long time, but lately I was having some troubles with them (one had a lan port burn out) and a couple weeks ago, something else happened to the main one which I'm not sure of yet.
Anyway, the best WRT54G is the one with the 'L' after it (for Linux), which has tons of onboard RAM and is designed to run linux firmware like DD-WRT and Tomato.
For Tomato, the best router to run it on is the Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 (which I just purchased this week) It can be had from Newegg for less than 60 bucks, which isn't too bad. It's an awesome router, and I like Tomato much better.
In order to reset your password though, you'll need to do a long reset. This will consist of holding your reset button in for over 30 seconds. I think that should work. Try it, and if it doesn't work, let me know and I can pull out my trusty guide and explain
Either way, I'll try it tonight and let you know. I'm curious now anyway too. But just so you know, there is no possible way you can do it with stock Linksys firmware. one of the cool things of both Tomato and DD-WRT is their ability to set up wireless bridge/repeater modes to utilize multi routers on one SSID. It's handy to do wired ethernet downstairs on the Xbox 360 and other devices, when the main router is upstairs.

Well, when you think of it that way, it actually should be legal. Because you pretty much are just displaying it on your screen. Well, if you're torrenting then then that is a different story... but you shouldn't torrent with a tether either lol.
But back to the OP's question: It's a slight possibility, but the frequency that you're tethering at may be congested. This happened to my one day ago when I bought a new router. It was set to broadcast on Channel 6. I got perfect signal in my room, but could not connect. I changed the Channel to 10, and was then able to connect just fine. I don't think you can change the broadcast channel on Wireless Tether, so you may have to use something like PDANet that tethers using a USB cable. That way, you'll avoid the whole congestion problem.
EDIT:
Just read that you're having trouble resetting your router. I've been messing with firmware and such on my WRT54G recently. I've found a fool-proof way to reset it. Basically, leave all the cables plugged in. Then, hold the reset button for about one minute. After the minute, while still holding the reset button, pull out the power cord. Once the power cord is out, release the reset button. Plug the power cable back in, and it should be reset

FYI, You can definitely change the channel within the wireless tether app.
Hey all,
Unfortunately, I just got done testing DD-WRT in repeater bridge mode, and it's not going to work with the Hero. For one, it will only join with a router that is in AP mode. Since Wireless Tether operates only in Adhoc mode, we're screwed.
There's an enhancement request on the Wireless Tether project page, and I updated it with my hopes of one day being able to run repeater bridge, but from what I was reading it looks like someone might have to rewrite the wifi driver to be able to do it anyway.
In any case, Adhoc mode only allows peer to peer connections, so it's not even capable of performing anything in infrastructure mode, which is what I was hoping it would do.
So, it's the wireless mode holding us back, not DD-WRT. Soon enough though, keep up the hope!

You shouldn't have a data cap on a phone. I thought that was on broadband cards only. They assume there is no way you can use over 5th on a phone browser, their mistake. I am on unlimited data plan, and it is just that, unlimited. Also, I used my bberry for internet tethering for a long time, and never saw an extra charge. If they could tell, they could control it. Some phone come locked out of Pam, if they are not, then they shouldn't be able to tell. I've have used smartphone. for mobile internet for a long time and have never been charged.

Wired Tether or Usb Internet Sharing

Is there any of these roms or apks that will allow Wired Tether or Usb internet sharing WITHOUT! having to purchase some other program. Everyone is so up in the air about wireless tethering, but I have noticed that is drains the battery so bad and the battery gets hot. Does anyone have the solution for error 67 on sprint cdma heros while tethering usb. And I have searched with to no avail.
mrfordwrench
My guess is you didnt do a search. With the "wired" tether you need the service enabled on your account. With the "wireless" tether it just works.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=656634&highlight=mns
Actually I did search, but you didnt fully read my post I guess.
I know it works with wireless tether, therefor it should work for wired.
But noone has taken the initiative with wired tether that they have with wireless tethering. Wireless would be great if it didnt drain your battery.
But you cant even have a charger hooked up with wireless tether and keep the phone going because the battery heats up. With wireless tether you have 2 radios working full speed an hence draining all the resources. With usb tethering you only have one radio working.

That is demonstrably not true.
I routinely use wireless tether, both on AC power and on battery power, and I've never noticed my phone getting unusually warm. Furthermore, I specifically use wireless tethering because it allows me to use the USB port for AC charging, which is much faster than having the phone plugged in to a USB port on a computer.
But, as far as your original question goes, all you need to do is spend some time on Google learning how to configure networking on Linux. The underlying Linux networking stack that the Android framework depends on is easily capable of acting as a router. All of the various tethering solutions, whether wired or wireless, are doing nothing that couldn't be accomplished with a few well chosen commands from a shell prompt. The apps are just putting a user friendly interface on it.
I'll admit, though, it would be nice to see a GUI app that offered ALL of the options to the user, instead of just focusing on tethering through one method...
FWIW, I have actually gone back to the 2.11_002 PRI, just to be able to use Internet Sharing. I have been in this mode for several days, and have run several different 2.1 ROMS with this PRI. Sprint TV and Sprint Navigation have been working (although I can't say that I actually use them much). Sprint Nascar and Football do not work (but I usually removed them anyways). Also Sprint does not show up on the lockscreen, but I can live without that as well, as I am already aware that Sprint is my carrier.
What I did to get this to work was to make a nandroid backup of my current setup, then wiped and flashed a ROM (DamageControlv1.1beta5 in my case) that changes the phone to the 2.11_002 PRI (had to boot twice before it showed up in settings > About phone > Software information). After this I just did a reboot into recovery, performed a wipe (data/dalvik/ext), then did a nandroid restore of my original setup.
This has been working well for me for a week or so, but YMMV. There may be some other issues associated with not having the sanctioned Product Release Instructions for my phone, but I have not come across anything yet. Perhaps developers or members with a better understanding of the difference may have some additional insight, but it is working quite well for me. I can't really offer any help or insight other that to say that it works.

Exactly what I mean.
I use easytether myself, it was a lot cheaper than pdanet. But pdanet does have the cool sms passthrough to the computer... anyways, you can use both of these for a free trial, after that it is still useable just can't access https websites (so no checking your bank, etc.) But I still use wireless tether quite often as well since I have a lot less trouble with file downloads, etc. Also, if you plug your phone usb cable into the actual phone charger that came with it instead of the computer or an aftermarket usb charger, it will charge while wireless tethering. Stock USB is only listed for 500 mA, where the one that came with the phone is 1000mA (both 5V)

Is there a way to change PRI outside of flashing a full ROM? If it requires a full ROM, how can you tell which ROM has PRI 1.68_003 (or possibly 2.10_003)? I have had 1.70_003 since I bought the phone and that one always gives me error code 67 when trying to use internet sharing. I think the other two official PRIs don't have this error. I am currently running Damage v2.05. I've read this post but I'm not sure that applies to my situation...
Ok I was using damagecontrol 2.05 before but thanks to the guidance of the responses I switched to darchlegend and now mns works with sharing.
Thanks for the all the positive and negative responses....
So I guess it has to do with what pri is installed per the Rom update.

Ok so I had Damagecontrol2.05...works great!...just cant use internet sharing.

Voicemail wouldnt work properly. So went back to Damagecontrol2.05 for now and trying to figure out how to get internet sharing working.

[Q] skyrocket tethering without root

Just got the "skyrocket" with AT&T absolutely impressed with the download speed in northern jersey more than7mbs. is that because the LTE is up here without an official announcement. I use to get nothing more than 1-2 mbs.
Now my main question is (are):
Can I tether for free without rooting?
Can I do that wirelessly?
Also would want to just using usb cable for one pc and pdaNet software so wifi signal would not show on my pc, is that possible?
Thank you.
You can share your phone's internet connection with your PC or laptop, yes. But to properly do so, you have to root it. You can use Super One Click to do that. Once rooted, you can download tethering apps from the Market...
Thank you BKALAAS
My main concern was HOW would I go about to do the tethering without rooting?
If I have to root, shouldn't be a specific program for the skyrocket or just use Superclick as you suggested.
Thanks again
What kind of phone do you have? HTC phones support this by default with the WIFI router tool and there is an tethering option by default to. This option is, as mentioned by bklaas2, available through the standard internet sharing option in android when you connect your usb cable. I will wait till someone could figure out a way for tethering without rooting the phone, thank you, The thank you btton on your profile not working.
Also for the person asking abot the LTE, it only shows 4g, no LTE, getting a speed from 3 to 8 mega bit per second which is something I was not getting on the other phones.
Go ahead and root it, you can always go back. Ultimately all your doing is unlocking phone to have it do what you want. You'll have access to more apps and utilities on the market.
The only way I know to do what you're asking is with PDAnet. They charge a 1 time fee, and it works pretty well.

ATT charges extra for both unltd. data and tethering for general retail. (I have a corp. discounted account, and somehow still have unltd data, but I had that since before the change - I threatened to leave with the other 2 lines if they didnt I couldnt keep it - I dont have tethering since that was a feature that came later.)
At first tethering was free if you could do it. That was true even in the time of flip phones. With the right cable, and understanding of how the devices worked with each other, could do anything from upload media to (with the right drivers) set up a dial up connection in XP using the phone as the modem. GPRS was not fast, it was only practical in limited applications. 3G in general changed that. Once the average user was able to do their variety of average things, which really does use a lot of bandwidth, not like heavy torrent user, but still, enough if they use it often, carriers started making the software to support charging for the ability. The problem is that each phone has to do it differently since they dont have easy ways to delineate; carriers arent allowed to look at the data to truly know what it came from, even based on protocol alone, you cant tell anymore. So now they are slowly working out ways to lock down their devices, which come from too many manufacturers. Some of whom just dont get it. Really. (*cough* HTC)
I have been using the Samsung Captivate for a little over a year, which in itself is a small miracle, I mean, a YEAR, actually 14 months!
The reason why is that the hardware is great. This is the unbrickable phone! And I don't mean through handy gadgets, or ripping the phone apart and doing microsurgery, I mean no matter what stupid thing you do playing with roms, including pulling the USB cable out mid-process, the core BIOS is still fine 99% of the time. Whats more, is that when the phone first came out the tethering was totally open, and ANY user could just use KIES to get online. Soon after that a firmware update for the phone included the pieces necessary to charge to tether. Then I started trying the different ROMS, or was it before? I use Serendipity 6.3 because it seems to be the only thing that works reliably, and doesnt look like crap. Which is really a shame! But it is the lightweight ROM with root access, and innate tethering, and honestly, I never wanted anything else but some angry birds. Ok so the google platform, and my exchange account had to all work too. Serendipity it was, and no, could never seem to get 7 working well.
The thing is, I dont like having even to use another app to tether, which is a bit ideological. I basically refuse to pay more to use the phone when its connected to my computer. I dont want to compromise in any way on this, and using an application that is not the phone's OS uses other resources when it otherwise would not (RAM + CPU = battery use = ). And because ehh, Samsung/Att bloatware isnt that cool, custom boot ROMS are. Although no gf ever thought it was that cool waiting for me to get one of them on... Well I would be annoyed if that was a compromise, but who would want to go look at leaves anyway? #Winning!
Seriously though, to me it comes down to its has to be simple, and I dont want to charge my phone 8 times a day for simple! Have you guys seen the size of this screen! Thats not even practical. Id hate to walk around with that in my pants. But since I am due for an upgrade, Im just going to wait until the thanksgiving sales to see if anything else comes out (which I doubt). Looking at the Skyrocket, it's a beast. For one thing this phone has "4G speeds delivered by HSPA+ (with enhanced backhaul)" which means it can go REALLY REALLY fast like 1-2mb/s not mbps, Mb down. Thats like little fios in my pocket! and theres a 1850 mAh battery stock (better if your going to make me carry around a small table top!) which there really is no way around with a 1.5ghz dual core, 1gb or RAM and a WVGA screen.
Personally I really liked the concept of smaller handset with a tablet/netbook to dock in, but apparently I was alone there. And HTC just doesnt make nice devices, sorry, but Samsung is just a much larger company, and it seems the better motorola phones are still coming out for V so for Att, Samsung it is.. At least they're easy to root.

[Q] Enable Tethering on AT&T HTC One X

Anyone with the AT&T HTC One X been able to find a way to enable tethering?
I know that Roger users get tethering enabled for free, unfortunately AT&T doesn't give us the same courtesy in the US.
I found this trick listed for enabling Tethering on the Galaxy Nexus that works on non-rooted devices.
"Elixer 2
Pros: Free
Cons: Confusing to setup at first
1. Install Elixer2
2. Install Elixer2 Widgets
The way I think this works is, you need to install Elixer2 to give you tons of tools and information about your device, so that the widgets work correctly.
Elixer2 Widgets gives you widget tools to create widgets for your device.
You can create a "Wi-Fi AP (Hotspot) toggle" widget that turns on Portable Wifi Hotspot. Doing this bypasses the wireless carrier check, and allows you to modify your AP settings to create a Hotspot."
I was curious if anyone knows if the Elixer 2 trick works on the AT&T HTC One X too?
Or perhaps someone else has been able to figure out another way since there isn't a root method available yet for the HTC One X.
Tasker widget might be able to do this as well.

Ah, has anyone tried using Elixer 2 or Tasker to enable tethering on an AT&T HOX?
You can tether on any device. Just install the right app or root. However, within a few hours to a few months, att will see and give you a warnign to stop tethring. If you continue, they auto-upgrade you to a tethering line. There is no way to go around it.

That is not true that they will eventually detect. I have been using tethering for a while on my iPhone and it hasn't been detected. It all has to do with that you need to make sure to use the right APN.

That's what custom ROM's are for. I don't abuse tethering, I do it occasionally and have never received any type of warning from ATT. Proper custom ROM's remove all kinds of traceable software back to the carriers. (e.g. CM9)

I am very aware that with a custom ROM or even a root app like Wifi Tether that you can easily enable tethering. However, I am trying to find out if there is a solution to get it working if you are not rooted.
Right now there is no custom ROMs or even a root for the AT&T HTC One X so the custom ROMs or even Wifi Tether are not an option. So back to my original question does anyone know if Elixer 2 or Tasker work for enabling tethering on the HTC One X?

I understood that, sorry for side stepping on the topic. I got caught up answering that there is a way around the carrier knowing about your tethering.
I don't know how much similarity between HTC's tethering code and Samsung's tethering code, I tried your apps mentioned above on my Samsung GS2 running latest AT&T ICS leak and it didn't work. It does bypass the account checking but there is no internet connection from the tethered devices what so ever. The new tethering code for these Samsung devices in ICS leaks are much difficult to bypass now than the ones in GB.
We will know it once we have AT&T HOX in hand.
This is the easiest solution that works on all android devices.

Proxy server and adb port forwarding ftw

I guess its luck of the draw then lol, i tetherd like 300 mb 2 monthes ago and got an att text warning 3 days later.
Just as an update, the Rogers RUU is online now, you can find it in the DEV section. Those who wanna attempt to flash its boot.img and system.img to an AT&T phone, knock yourselves out!
Not saying it's gonna work necessarily...
Easy Tether always worked for me. It uses the Android debugging mode. You need to use USB but whatever. Totally worthwhile (costs about $10 one time fee) and I'm not sure how they would detect this. IF they gave you a hard time you could simply explain that you develop Android apps and that you're not tethering. They may buy that.
When tethering is enabled through the device via normal means, then I think they would know about it...But if you're going through the debugger, I just can't see how they would know.
If they ever did or worse yet, IF any carrier is collecting data about user agents, etc. to see if you're using a desktop browser...Then I think that's a severe privacy concern.
I would hope anyone getting a warning from a carrier would because they have a rooted phone and they have the actual tethering system feature enabled for which the operating system likely sends up some sort of flag to notify the carrier (hence why people are saying it depends on what ROM you're using). OR because of their usage patterns, ie. heavy usage in short periods of time. A phone can only have so many browser tabs open and use so much data in a short period of time. They have this stuff down to a science.
However...If you're tethering to check your e-mail, browse a little, do work, and like me...build web sites and what not from Starbucks (because their free WiFi doesn't allow you to use SSH) then I really can't imagine you'd get an angry letter.
Again, this is all speculation...I use Sprint and never had an issue. However, come Sunday I will be switching to AT&T for the better looking HTC One X...Oh right and for the working 4G. Despite half the storage space.
Elixir 2/Widgets does not work on my ATT HOX for the mobile AP. I still get the "call 611 to enable tethering" popup.
Has anyone tried Foxfi from the market?
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
FoxFi does not support wifi for any HTC phones, only Bluetooth (as stated in-app).
Foxfi keeps giving me some cryptic error message "fail to open bluetooth". Being unable to root / tether and downgrade from 32gb to 16gb (and in actuality 9.96 gb) is really pissing me off...
Edit: Easy Tether works. Just using the free version so far, no issues yet. Will know more extensively in the next few days.
Clockworkmod
I use tether from clockworkmod. cost $4.99 USB only though

Verizon has finally killed FoxFi tethering for people still on unlimited data plan

Verizon has finally killed FoxFi tethering for people still on unlimited data plan
As of right now(8pm EST, 11/20), I have personally verified this with at least 11 family members and co-workers/friends from different parts of the country. All have the paid version of FoxFi and Verizon Note 5 on unlimited data plan. Hotspotting just stopped working within the last 48 hours.
Guess the party had to end sooner or later.....
I wonder how I can contact FoxFi developer to verify that the problem isn't on his/her end? I know my Note 5 has not received any updates in the last 10 days, so not sure how Verizon is doing this.
Foxfi's Developer contact email should be on there Google play listing. And yeah I can second your verification of it not working, not sure how though being that there was no system nor app update.
It's not working for me either, thanks for posting this as it saves me a device wipe!
Not working for me as well my friends. I've emailed the developer so hopefully they will have a fix !

I just looked up the reviews section for FoxFi in Play Store. Hundreds of people are now crying bloody murder because Verizon has killed/blocked FoxFi.
I guess there's no point in emailing the developer about this. Don't want to take up their time... hopefully they'll find a cure soon? (not hopeful this time... I have a feeling that Verizon is blocking this forever)

Yeah I think that by now they already know of this issue by now. And also sadly yes, I have the same feeling this is permanent.
Well , let's go ahead and root .

someone has figured out how to root the Verizon Note5 already!!!??? :fingers-crossed:
Honestly I hope that they find a fix.....and yes it's been great for years now.......since my HTC THUNDERBOLT. LOL
Verified as of 6:43pm 11/20/15 i lost foxfi wifi mode im using the usb tethering now which is ok since my comp has bluetooth so it can give off wifi signal to my ipad ...70gb a month for me...guess verizon got pissed off lol...hope foxfi can be op and fix this :/
I have Verizon unlimited plan. Using Galaxy S5. Pdanet/Foxfi stopped working today 11/20/15. This happened on 8/27/15 and my mobile hotspot was up and running again the next day.
Mine stopped working as well. Verizon note 5. So sad. Are there any alternatives? USB tether is so impractical. Any other app work?

I haven't done USB tethering in ages... can you give me a rough idea on
how to accomplish this between my Verizon Note 5 and my laptop?
Thanks!

It started acting up for me on my GS5 late yesterday, but after several attempts it reconnected and was online until early this afternoon when I shut it down to go shopping. Saw someone post on the Play Store listing that they may just be having problems with the subscription-service right now. It's taking more than the 30 seconds FoxFi allows before giving up, which is what prompts the popup to appear. I sure hope this is just a glitch. Can't imagine Verizon wants the headache of a massive FCC/FTC complaint, but with the record of thumbing their nose at regulators (broken FIOS promises) maybe it is over.
Worst case, I'll setup a low-power PC just to share the network connection out through LAN into a wireless-router and voila!
I too am grandfathered in the Verizon unlimited plan and foxfi stopped working between yesterday and today. .....it's likely the subscription service. ...I say this because we had no OTA update in over a month. I don't see how Verizon or any other providers could accomplish this feat without an update ? We will hopefully be back to norm in a day or so....fingers crossed!

Haven't used the USB teher in a long time. Basicly you install FoxFi/pdanet on your Note 5. Connect the Note 5 charging cable to the USB your laptop. You then have a wired internet connection on your laptop.
You know it seems more of a foxfi vpn issue.
How?
"Worst case, I'll setup a low-power PC just to share the network connection out through LAN into a wireless-router and voila!"
Not so much about the low power PC, but the simple act of sharing the connection over a wireless network so other devices can use it, such as tablets and consoles.
I have been trying to do this for nearly 4 hours. I'm tech literate enough to usually be able to figure things like this out, but I'm just not finding success. Do you have a walkthrough or could you point us toward a good one?
Relatively easy, this should get you started
It is pretty easy. I started with USB using Easytether and then moved to Foxfi and wireless. But I had to return to USB this evening in order to watch TV. It is NOT as handy. I was running my home wireless network off my phone. Now, I'm carting the phone around to devices (not optimal) because the USB speed, at least it seems, >> Bluetooth, at least in my setup. For both Foxfi and Easytether it meant
(1) installing software on the phone (Foxfi/PDAnet), which should already be in place(2) installing client software on your laptop/computer/... from PDAnetpdanet. co/a(3) Connect two devices with a standard USB cable, but use a high quality one not a cheap one it matters.
There were some changes but they were relatively easy and understandable, probably 2/10 on the amateur tech difficulty scale (e.g. unchecking "Activate WiFi hotspot" in Foxfi and checking "activate USB tether" instead, and jumping back/forth from phone and computer software). Still haven't figured out how to get good HD video from the Internet to my TV, but I think is because currently I am limited by the video on my laptop. But it is a problem and so can be solved, ETA 1am. This might get you by until you have a plan B. Good luck to you.
I AM VERY GRATEFUL FOR THIS SITE I was starting to pull out a few hairs and this thread was a great reality check. I am not alone.

Basically, it's sharing or bridging the PDAnet adapter to Ethernet, then piping it into a wireless-router. Might need to manually set IP, Gateway, and DNS on the PC.
http://www.howtogeek.com/213638/how...et-internet-connection-with-all-your-devices/
It can get exotic and mind-boggling, but I've done it before. Might also want to consider Connectify or the built-in WLAN hotspot feature in Windows 7, 8, and I think 10 has it now too, or the PDAnet hotspot beta. What have you tried, and what's your hardware and OS config?
Just found and tried this, and it's working great!
