Hi,
Does anyone know how to make this work on EVO 4G?
coolbits.homeip.net/2010/03/how-to-root/#respond
Looks pretty good that you don't have to install custom ROM to get root.
Anyother way to get root without flashing rom? By keeping existing rom?
regards,
asimo
depends what the "m7" binary is but i highly doubt it will work to exploit our EVO.
also, if by some miracle, the m7 binary did exploit root on our EVO, it wouldn't be sticky based on their method because NAND protection prevents our system from being writable.
hope that helps your curiosity although if it doesn't, put stock system back on your phone and try. steps are pretty simple. let us know how it goes!

We have now released our tool that will flash koush's recovery to your device without a engineering hboot etc. All you need is root, please see:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=706270
And I'm sure this works with your rooting method right?
yep... sure does.

will the source code be released for this method?
it is great to have multiple methods! thanks!!!
No, this method we hope will remain underwraps for many more htc devices. But rest assured we will happily explore and implement it on as many devices as we can.

No plans at this time, sorry. We've planned on blogging about the first root method we found for some time (and still use for older phones), just never got around to it.
mmastrac (unrevoked)
is this *full* nand unlock. The part 2 of the Evo Rooting process
Will this erase everything I have on my phone? Are there instructions anywhere for how to do this?

Get the original Unrevoked and then get titanium backup, then backup. Then do this unrevoked recovery flash.
worked flawlessly on my mac first time. ran nandroid. installed custom rom. love it.
ive noticed a custom rom or two requires full nand unlock.. even after boot. would this method allow for use of that kind of rom.. or would we need to do the original full root method(part 1 + 2)? ex...forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=700448
if original root mthod is indeed required for customs roms such as the above mentioned.. could we just pick up at original root method part two? or would we have to still start form the beginning? i personally dont care about being able to have full R/W access while in android.. but if im going to miss out on some roms i might consider doing the "full root" method.
id prefer not to tho.. as i LOVE everything unrevoked is doing. thanks for all the hard work.
worked like a charm
stock evo + unrevoked root + unrevoked recovery + custom rom of your choice .... hell yeah doesn't get any easier
Works amazing! Great work guys!
does this give you FULL root or just the ability to load custom roms?

appears just the ability to load custom ROMs. don't think this gives write access to /system.
in order to manipulate files for /system, requires their root method with their special shadow directory and mount bind command method.
If its not full root then what's the point? It seems to me that it just makes things more confusing because users think they are rooted when in fact they are not..

depends how you define full root.
the user has full root (superuser access) to the whole phone, but does not have write access to /system due to NAND protection.
the release in this thread, they've used some kind of exploit/method to bypass NAND protection temporarily to allow write access to the /recovery partition.
Funny though, about three weeks ago, i used the unrevoked to kick off rooting the wifes phone while i was driving down the road, I used it to get what i needed to flash to finish up with toasts method. LOL...
I'm running the Fresh v0.3 which says you need nand unlocked.
I'm new to Android but if I can flash these custom roms I think that's good enough
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
this is pretty cool, gonna have to look into this!
i didnt think the two toast root steps were hard to begin with. Especially for all the benefits. But good job unrevoked team for the contribution, for those that cannot or choose not to r00t the other way. Choices are what this place is all about
i have the original 2.1 leak on my eris.. the one from hell, and i want to get A) root access, B) a recovery image to flash ROMs, and C) a stable and somewhat clear way to do that. I have tried everything and all sorts of bugs appear.. im getting very frustrated. If anyone could give me any sort of help, wonderful. and if anything, help me get root access.. i have 2.1 but have no idea how to allow root access. i do not have User Permissions either.
Think i may have fixed it.. I used the RUU unroot method, and it worked. im hoping now i can root, then flash roms on top of that.
I've just recently registered but have been lurking for a while and doing a lot of reading. I've seen there are a bunch of different options for rooting a evo. Also seems like there's a lot of out dated ways to root as well. I'm still new to this and have some questions. Looking to have full root access. As far as I understand it, I will need to run a rom after rooting the device? Will I still be able to receive sprint updates as need once I root? My main reasons for rooting is for the wifi teether, maybe overclocking to speed it up a little bit and to remove the factory sprint apps. I did have a friend tell me that once his buddy rooted his evo he noticed his battery life was a lot better. Anyone experience that? What other info do I need to provide you? Thanks
Update: Was running 2.2 froyo till my phone just did the 2.3 gingerbread update and now my internet doesn't work. Is there any way to root now or am I screwed and have to deal with sprint?
You don't need to flash a rom after rooting but you definitely can. As far as updating, I'm not 100% sure about sprint, but I think you need to be stock to receive an OTA update. For rooting your device, use unrevoked, its an incredibly simple one click root program.
Unrevoked is the quick and easy way to root. Once rooted you WILL NOT get Sprint updates. If you get your 2.3 Sprint update and apply it you WON'T be able to root.
You can run stock 2.2 Android with Sense rooted and not load any ROMs. I do not know if you'll be able to wifi tether by only being rooted. I do know that there are several ROMs that have Android 2.3 Gingerbread and have wifi tether working so if you do root your 2.2 install Amon_Ra recovery then flash Cyanogen Mod 7. Instructions are on his Wiki which I can't post a link to since I'm new forum user here.

Should I even worry about the OTA updates then?
Hey everyone. I was wondering if some here with a HTC One can point me in the right direction. I am looking to finally take the plunge and permanently root, flash a custom recovery, backup my stock, and install a new custom rom on my Verizon M8.
This is my first HTC device playing with, I have always had Motorola stuff and am pretty familiar with the process on those, but this HTC stuff is still a little blurry. S-on/off, CID, MID, RUUs????
I have been reading these forums for quite a bit and still a little unsure about what the steps would have to be. I am currently on the latest stock VZW temp rooted with the new weeksauce basically just to have tethering via a 3rd party app (Wifi tether router). I actually really, really like the stock Sense 6.0 UI and this phone is pretty much perfect all around.
What I want to do is, permanently root, install TWRP as that's what i've used on Moto and my Sammy Tab, backup my stock system so I can go back, and then install a custom ROM. Can TWRP on this do more than one ROM slot and run dual roms? What if everything gets jacked up and I have to go back to complete out of the box stock? How is that done with HTC? I think with Moto it was like an .FXZ file or something like that and you boot the phone into download mode and just flash that file from the computer and you're back to 100% stock. Same with Samsung using ODIN.
I'm also not sure what ROM I want to try, so I am open to suggestions there too. I would like to maybe try a pretty clean Lollipop ROM with good battery life and very stable. Would that be the GPE?
Thanks for reading and for any help.

First you need s-off/unlocked boot loader to perma root..also there is multi ROM support for this device. An if you want to return to pure stock cause something got messed up then you download the ruu an use fast boot via pc to flash your ruu.zip it will wipe your whole phone an return you to out of the box. if your looking for a sense Lollipop from. Santod has a nice ROM an you can also check out the ROM by andybones is also runs very nice an has themes an mod support. If you like GPE then there is one of those also for our device.
Thanks for the info. So in my reading up on doing this, is the "firewater" method of achieving S-off and root no longer working on this phone with 4.4.4? And also, as I understand it, the Sunshine method of achieving the two may or may not work on 4.4.4 either, kind of a 50/50 shot??? So I guess at this time it might just be worth it to wait until either the new sunshine is released or Verizon pushed the 5.0 update out and see what that is like.

Firewater is dead....sunshine might work you can download the app for free an run it to see if it will work with your device is free too. Then if you want to run sunshine that's when you pay the 25...so I would advice against taking anymore ota till you r able to s-off.
Hey everyone, I don't have this model but I have several other Alcatel models and just got another Alcatel MT6753 model rooted. I have a possible rooting solution that grants temp root in a shell that would allow you to gain perm root =) I need some testers, so if anyone is interested in trying to root their idol 5, please PM me and we can give it a go. If it works, I'll release it on here in a new thread.
PM sent
I apply for testing

I have the dual sim vesion (3GB/16GB/Mt6753)
this is the link to the exploit with instructions.

I have the stock rom from what i think is an older update. Maybe it has fastboot enable little kernel file, i'm not sure as i don't have this phone and can't test it. If somebody wants to test by flashing stock software with this older little kernel file swapped to try, let me know.
https://t.me/PizzaG
That's how i was able to get my bootloader unlocked on my other Alcatel phone, by downgrading little kernel. The Idol 3 was the same way. Also, if anybody happens to have the initial release software on their phone, please let me know.
With this temp root exploit we may be able to pull the stock rom into a image file so i can check it out. If this phone is running android 7, which I believe it is, somebody needs to use the xploit and then try pushing SuperSU to the phone using the instructions posted on the bottom of the first page of the xploit thread.
With temp root I'm pretty sure you guys can at the very least debloat a bit with adb shell commands. Don't worry about botching your phone, I do have the stock rom and a legit way to flash it. I also know how to downgrade the little kernel file

I have the dual $im ver$ion ($imba6l or 6058d) DOe$ it work?
I actually have a prerelease version of the phone. I got it from betabound.com. This was a beta test phone so I'm assuming it's the earliest version of the software. Let me know what to do and you can have an image of my system.
