I was just about to try updating from NScollab 1.0.39 to 1.0.40 and for some reason my nexus s refuses to boot into recovery. It doesn't seem to exist anymore. Im not sure if it is related or not but my phone became very laggy after my first failed attempt to boot into recovery. I tried fixing user permissions and rebooting many many times but it doesn't seem to help.
What does it do when u try to boot into recovery?
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
It doesnt do anything. It just reboots into the bootloader.
Thank you for the quick reply
edit:
i tried flashing recovery again through rom manager and now whenever i try to boot into recovery it just hangs at the google logo with the unlocked padlock.
Hmmm
Do me a quick favor.
go here:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Ne...de#Installing_the_ClockworkMod_Recovery_Image
and download the 4.0.0.2 recovery image and save it to some directory on ur computer
then follow these steps:
1. Open up command prompt/terminal and plug in phone to computer
2. Type "adb reboot bootloader"
3. It will take you to fastboot mode. Now type "fastboot erase recovery"
4. Then type fastboot "flash recovery ____.img"
( ____ is the name of the recovery img file)
5. Now it will flash and once it says "OKAY" then scroll down using volume down into recovery and see what happens
plz get back to me bout this!
IT WORKS! It went into recovery! Thank you so so much! Is there anything else I should do or am i set to go?

Thank you so much for the quick help! btw i updated recovery from rom manager and i ran into the same problem with it not booting into recovery so i am guessing there is a problem with the latest version of recovery? I'll just reflash through the instructions you gave me.
Yeah prolly a ROM manager issue

the recovery generally doesnt stick if flashing it through rom manager. flash it through fastboot and itll stick.
Hmm thanks for the advice! ill keep that in mind
I already try to reflash for almost 10 times and each and every time was unsuccessful to make the twrp working on my device...
anybody has any idea what went wrong?
i flash the ics port from xbsall currently using V21A baseband and root succesfuly using the guide from the development thread.
however once i install the p940 recovery and granted superuser it could never boot to recovery.
i did make the twrp successfully boot to recover and make a backup 2 days ago. but because i flash the wrong baseband and messed up with my imei i decided to reflash all over again.
and tough luck it never reboot to recovery ever since.
please help... i'm dying to try xbsall newest room with acid sound....
I am in the same situatiom.
If someone can provide alternative or manual way it will be great.

Forget flashing Recovery partition if using ICS.
Specific TWRP/CWM recovery uses the 2nd init method and has nothing to do with recovery partition.
I have the same problem!
the installation of the .zip-file takes 2 sec.
it isn't normal for a size of 429 mb.
what's the problem
you can use the app that you used to install recovery to go in recovery mode,
3d+vol down+power doesnt work on me.

ok so ive had my tf101 rooted since i got the thing over a year and a half ago, i was running the megatron rom which was cm9 based and everything was good. today i tried to flash Eos4 and i got F%$ked out the a$$. so i did my standard procedure which was put the rom and gapps package on my device and then i wiped everything (after making a nandroid) and flash the rom along with its gapps. then i went to reboot it then i got shot back into recovery...so i was like wtf. i then found a way where if i hold the power and volume down for about 10 seconds i could cold boot android and once booted fix this problem with my recovery. unfortunately when i go to boot into android my device just bootloops on the boot animation ( ive left for about ten mins just to make sure) then i was like oh well ill just restore my nandroid, but for some reason clockwork mod touch wont let me use my microsd card, and its also not letting me restore from the backup i made earlier, it says files not found. i tried to connect it to my pc so i could just factory reflash it but unfortunately it will not be picked up by my pc through adb or apx.
so here is my main issue,
i just need to boot into android one time successfully so i can change the location of some ROM files and fix this stupid recovery bull****.
or if i could some how factory reset the tablet completely then that would be fine too
or or i could flash a different recovery that actually worked (currently on CWM 5.8.3.4 installed from rom manager which i realize now to be a huge mistake)
and i've tried ever tool on this forum as well and nothing works because it cannot pick up my device.
*** one other side note i am running windows 8 pro 32bit through Vmware (if this can be problematic)
thanks for any help in advance
To fix this, you will need to get your tablet recognized by your computer via ADB (in recovery) or APX mode.
You could have a bad cable, or it could be the VM causing the detection issues.
Is there a way you can connect it to a computer running Windows natively?
Does your computer make the new hardware sound when connecting?
Once you get it detected via one method or the other, here are my suggestions:
APX - Use the Naked Driver 0.72 and replace whatever driver is being used. Then use EasyFlasher to install TWRP 2.2.1.4 (it blows CWM away, and can read internal AND external memory)
ADB - use the Naked Driver 0.72 and replace whatever driver is being used. Then download the TWRP 2.3.2.3 blob from the TWRP project: http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/tf101
Call the downloaded file TWRP.blob.
Then run the following from your computer via ADB:
Code:
adb push TWRP.blob /sdcard/
adb shell
su
dd if=/sdcard/TWRP.blob of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p4
reboot
Make sure it is a normal reboot to complete the recovery. Then reboot to recovery and you should be able to see the external card (so long as it is formatted for FAT32).
Thanks for the quick response and it probably is because I am using vmware... Unfortunately I don't have access to a windows machine right now. But I will definitely try to find one

** edit I'm assuming it got stuck boot the apps because now a my directories seem F&#cked up too... It now goes sdcard/0/0/0/(everthing else)
That's because your recovery is not compatible with 4.2.1. TWRP recovery 2.3.2.3 or 2.3.3.x should be fine as federuco said, to fix the sdcard/0/0/... issue.
For the stuck at apps thing, usually it's because you didn't wipe everything when changing rom. Make sure to do a full reset, wipe cache dalvik and system.

What happens if you reboot it after it is at the starting apps screen?
If you can get into the OS, install GooManager and install TWRP.

Use the Naked Drivers.
Let me find the link to the thread....
Here you go: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514942
Grab the driver pack in the first thread, update the device using the APX driver when in APX mode.
Then you should be good to go. I have used EasyFlasher via APX with great success.

Put your device in APX mode. To do so, make sure it's completely powered off (hold the power button 10 seconds), then hold down volume up + power for about 5 seconds. Do that while it's connected through USB. The screen will remain black so you won't see anything on the device, but you will hear a new device found in windows. Go in your device manager and look for either "unkown device" or "NVIDIA boot-recovery driver for mobile devices". If you see the nvidia one, right click and delete it; it should be come unknown. Right click the unknown device, install driver... navigate to where you extracted the naked drivers, and install.
Then use easyflasher.

Hey there, I have a P509 with this version of CWM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2564767. I tried to flash this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2589303, but obviously, something went wrong. Now, everytime I boot up my phone, it puts me into fastboot mode. I have a CWM backup and I have Android SDK installed and fastboot commands are working fine, but I can't actually reach CWM. The three button combo while it's off isn't working and the "fastboot reboot-bootloader" just reboots it into fastboot again. ADB doesn't recognize the device when I try to do "adb reboot recovery". Is there a way to recover my backup via fastboot or reach CWM in my current point? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
Does anybody have any suggestions? I would really like to avoid having to reset everything.

It seems like there is no way around having to reset everything. I suggest flashing a new rom and recovery through an Adb on a computer.
I just did a full reset of the phone through KDZ and searched the ROM thread to find out that my issue was not installing a music player. I'm now up and running with 4.4.2

Wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction. I was trying to go back to stock to flash new twrp but when i wiped through advanced it wiped my phone completely. I wasnt able to get back on the Rom and now I can only get back to twrp by doing the hard factory reset. what is the best way to get my phone back? it was twrp 2.3.2 if it helps

Since your phone can not boot you must use that mode to go back to your original firmware, that I can not help you with because I have a sprint variant

if you have custom recovery then use adb sideload and push rom of choice and that's it but if u want to go back to stock then search for threads in xda which clearly describe them.

Use this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2663369 is very easy. Or you can push the rom by RECOVERY
adb push D800_Stock_KK.zip/data/
adb push UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.93.zip/data/
Good Luck
thank you my pc is not recognizing my g2 so I am going to backtrack reinstall the drivers to see if it makes a difference

Dude, it looks like you have soft-bricked your phone. Do you have any custom recoveries installed? Are you running CM or any stock ROMS (non-AT&T)?
I ran into a boot loop earlier. Luckily I had custom recovery installed. Try these steps to get into custom recovery:
Code:
Turn your phone off.
Press volume down and power button until the LG logo comes on screen
Let go of both buttons
Hold the volume down and power buttons again until you see the "hard reset screen"
Press power once and then power again to confirm. The screen says it will reset your device but it will not as long as you have a custom recovery installed.
Your custom recovery should appear on screen.
I was able to fix it thankfully. Just had to reinstall adb from a previous file. I followed this thread
