Hello everyone. Sorta new to this whole WM phone...but getting use to it and enjoying all the mods ive found on this website. The only problem i have is that im slowly learning how to install all these cabs and apps, and ive managed to brick my phone several times and had to do a hard reset...its gets really annoying when im somewhat satisfied with all my visual mods, registry mods, etc...and when i try to install something new, i brick it then have to reinstall everything all over again.
So whats the best app that would back up all my mods up to date, cabs and manual registry tweaks so that when and if i do brick it with the installation of a new app or "wrong" cab...it would restore my phone settings back to exactly prior to the bricking...l
thanks in advance for the help guys!

Hi PlacTrac
I use the above.

I would suggest SPB Backup. Its not free but worth the money! U can do a full system backup which once u run it, it will restore your phone with the saved configuration including your installed apps.....
Every week at least one thread about the "best backup solution"... this is so lame...
spb hands down, one click, count to 20, full backup.
total magic.

SPB Backup and Sk Tools!! SK tools has more to offer feature rich, and cost a lot less!! both do the same. A complete backup right where you last updated your phone, everything setup and installed, All contacts and email saved!!!

I have a HUGE problem.
3 days ago I've got a message SMSlauncher.exe is missing some components... after some research I found that I have to reinstall CF.35 but I couldn't. I get the error that cf 3.5 is already installed...
cgautil.exe is showing that cf3.5 is still installed but there is no value for 3.5 in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\.NETCompactFramew...
also netcfcfg.cab is showing that 3.5 in NOT installed.
I've already spent 4 days installing and uninstalling and I would prefer not to have to do hard reset if possible ....
Can you please help?
Thank you!
did you install anything prior to that message appearing?
RE:Installing/Uninstalling cf3.5 on Tytn 2
I've installed remote tracker... and later on wanted to delete(uninstall it) I also installed VipRingTone81.CAB the same day. One of those 2 I think is "guilty" for all this mess, but I'm not sure which one ...
Well, there are a few options. as i don't have any experience with either of them, i can't exactly tell you what caused the problem. I suggest that you uninstall one of them (if you didn't already).. and check if it helps.. then uninstall the other if it didn't.
if both uninstalled and you're still having this problem, I suggest you install netcf 3.5 again.. and see if that helps. if it doesn't, you can use PIMBackup 2.8 to back your data up and hard reset.

It seems to me that when you uninstalled remote Tracker, the uninstallation took a CF3.5 file or two with it, but left everything else behind. You might have to clean up (uninstall) the CF3.5 installation by hand since it doesn't seem to be able to fully uninstall it (due to missing components).
Personally, I would follow nir36's suggestion. Just back up your stuff and HR.
Good luck!
RE:Installing/Uninstalling cf3.5 on Tytn 2
I already all tried that and the problem is that I can't install cf3.5 again...
And when I install other applications which are using 3.5 I get the message that cf3.5 is broken.

Did you clean all the registry entries as well?
Honestly, I think you are better off doing a HR. As an added benefit, your device will behave a lot smoother if you haven't done that in a while
Good luck and don't forget to back up your stuff...
OK, it seems that HR is the only solution.
From the information I saw on dotfred's site PIMBackup 2.8 is "only" backing up: appointments
- backup/restore call logs
- backup/restore contacts
- backup/restore messages (SMS, Mails, ...) NEW !!!
- backup/restore speed dials
- backup/restore tasks
- backup/restore custom files
Is there any application
available which would be able to save my settings .... like WiFi network(s) information ??
Thanks a lot guys!
don't know of anything that saves wifi network information... sorry.
I would also like to remind you to use a backup program to back your system up so that you don't have to go thru a hard reset everytime this happens.
something like SPB Backup can help you.. but for now, hard reset your phone.. that's my suggestion.
I just wanted to let everybody know I've did a HR and found out that cf 3.5 was cooked, what means included in the ROM I've installed still have to find who was guilty for all this mess. My main suspect is "remote tracker". BEWARE !!
Thanks again to everybody!
Hi,
does anyone have any suggestion about a good, reliable (and possibly, but not necessarily, free) Full Backup Application working on Topaz? I've tried several of them (SPB,Sprite,SKtools..) and my hands shake each time I have to restore because it's not always working
Thanks to everyone helping

Well, I guess most people will consider spb Backup as reliable and essential. And probably Sprite Backup next. You should try to solve your problems with spb or Sprite Software. If these programs don't help with your device then others won't either.
I used Sprite backup about two weeks ago after hard reset and it worked well. I've got back everything what I want, included installed software, contacts, settings etc.
Sprite Backup 6.5.4 rocks, thank you all
My experience is that SPB backup and Sprite are the best of a bad job - neither is rock solid reliable with restoring, but more often than not SPB will get me up and running again.
Resco backup is another possibility - it is a superb utility in PalmOS, but the WM implementation was extremly unreliable and buggy for me.
If you want one free search PPCPimBackup
Ok, I was wondering if anyone out there possibly knows (without flashing to custom rom) how to uninstall verizon's junk off the omnia i920. I tried bunch of custom roms and while they were good, each one of them had bugs. I tried to build my own last night without any luck whatsoever.
I know there has to be some work around where I can take the verizon stuff off. Or could someone tell me what I did wrong when I built my own rom...
I used Wozzers i920 kitchen. I hit buildos and then pressed the play button and it put files into OEM, SYS, and all those other folders. I went through and deleted some stuff in the OEM, SYS folders and made sure initfiles was clear of them as well as the rgu, but when I flashed my phone it wouldn't go past the verizon wireless screen.
Am I totally missing something? I tried taking out the following: All VZW bloat (games, nav, cityid, vvm, songid, Vcast and I'm sure a couple others), Bing, Office One Note, Excel, PowerPoint, Samsung Widgets, Windows Live and Opera.
Is there an exact step by step thread or threads to help me out, because I checked out modaco...was I supposed to drop the .nbo file back into buildos? I am so lost and I would love to get the VZ junk off.
Thanks in advance..I know this is alot to ask for...but I'm just wanting to remove a couple things and this phone would be perfect then.
In my opinion, the 'bugs' in most of the custom ROMs are less objectionable than the bugs in the stock ROM.
Have you tried Ninja4Hire's ROM? He uses builds that are inherantly more stable, 6.5 as opposed to 6.5.x.
I prefer his XDA version 7, so far. My phone is now the fastest I have ever had, and trouble free except for occasional added software conflicts.
You will need to read up a lot (at Modaco) and start practicing to figure out cooking your own ROMs, but there is quite a bit of help over there.
Yeah I have ninja's v7 rom on my phone now and something is going on with the sound when i get a text message. I'm going to try Amdzeros lite rom here shortly...i didn't have issues with text sounds until today so I don't know what I possibly done to get the sound not working.
I try to read up at modaco, and I joined that forum but I cannot post anything there or click links. I tried contacting the admins there but noone ever got back to me.
It seems like every time I set up a new ROM, it takes me forever to get everything set back up and I always miss something, contacts are missing, apps go all wonky... I used to backup all my apps and data, but a lot of the time the new ROM will download many of the apps I had, so when I restore the backup of my Apps, it screws everything all up.
So I guess my questions is... Whats the most sufficient, easiest, most thorough way of restoring all apps and whatnot on a new ROM?
For the basics use the market app to backup your sms to google cant remember what its called, backup your contacts to google (highly recommend) that way you will never loose them.
For apps i would only ever backup downloaded apps with titanium backup pro. System apps can be a pain in the ass to restore.
Other than that everything else is fairly easy...

Hmm... Ive never gone about backing up SYSTEM apps, but like paid apps, that Ive bought and backed up, seem to get all jacked when I restore or reinstall them. Ive tried a few different methods of restoring my system and never get it to go smoothly. Didnt know if there was an easier way. Thanks for the info!
You might want to upon first boot of the new ROM, bypass initial setup with the tap corners trick, restore apps with Titanium, then resume the setup process. Market will see your apps as already having been installed and not bugger everything up.
Good idea! Hadnt thought of that. Will try with my next rom. Thanks! Anymore tips out there?
First thing I thought of was nandroid backup using clockworkmod on a rooted device. I have restored my phone countless times and everything restores exactly how it was.
sometime i got errors while restoring with CWM..
Titanium is still the recommended.
When I first started out, I actually had to make a list and check it off. Eventually, I found some apps that would cover those items (Titanium, etc), but still even with that I have to manually go in and do a few settings. MIUI ROMS have a backup program (I used MIUI on my HD2) and it seemed to do a decent job.
I usually keep a current back up of all apps from market(not system apps) made from my backup pro. Everything else gets a fresh start.
When I switch android versions ei, from gingerbread to ics, nothing gets restored, everything is a fresh install from market.

Was it through CWM rom manager or manual recovery mode? I mean did you install a kernel that installed cwm or did you install rom manager? After a couple weeks walking around blind I figured out that flashing the right kernel gets cwm to work without problems.
Restoring system settings is a big no no. It is just asking for trouble as with each update the source code is changed and then you are restoring outdated settings that may or may not be there.
TIBU is still the main app restore program. As for restoring settings that is never advices. Well unless you like troubleshooting random errors lol
Thanks for ALL the replies! Some stuff I hadnt thought of in here, and some stuff to try. If anyone else has any more info, please feel free to share. I have heard that restoring settings is asking for trouble, so luckily Im not too picky about those. I really only change the haptic feedback and stuff off the bat, anyway. It also sucks losing all my WiFi networks and having to have all my friends dig up their network passwords.
Anyway, gonna try out some of this stuff today as Im sick of the ROM I just flashed. Still waiting on MIUI getting that MMS workin

I concur, system restores after updates, different roms etc are a nightmare lol. It might be a pain in the a$$ but i ALWAYS start afresh after each flash and never use the same data image lol
Hi guys, my girlfriend bought a lumia 710, and one day after she bought it, I flashed a custom rom
But, we can't remember making any call before the new ROM, and with the new ROM the call quality is TERRIBLE, when I try to talk to her, I always hear a very loud echo, and her voice is always very low...
Has anyone got a similar bug? can this be caused by the ROM? or is it a problem with the phone and we need to send it to the technical assistance??
I was thinking on trying to put a custom ROM based com 7.8 to see if this fixes the call problem, but we don't want to lose every progress we made on our games :crying: is there anyway to make a backup of the savegames so I can put it back on the new ROM?
You're quite likely to get flamed (and rightly so) for the last part of your first sentence. I'll certainly tell you that I have no particular interest in helping you. I might even engage in a bit of it myself...
With that said, I don't know whether there are call problems with Lumia 710 custom ROMs, but normally that certainly isn't a problem they have. As for backup, there are ways both to back up the whole phone, or individual app storage. I'll leave the issue of finding them up to you; you seem perfectly capable of searching XDA-Devs when your goal is to abuse the hard work of the forum's actual contributors and be a greedy cheapskate with a sense of entitlement; so you have a pretty good chance of finding the backup tools too.
Oh look, I guess I did...

If that Lumia is unlocked you can do backup with data bases your games (and other apps) via Windows Phone Device Manager from Julien Schapman. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=965788

whoa easy there, don't need to come with 20 rocks on your hands...
Let's go by parts... You mean to tell me that I'm getting flamed just because we don't want to lose our progress on games? Isn't it normal? Don't you play games on your phone and computer? You wouldn't mind to lose all your progress?
I really don't know why to be so hater, i mean, if I was asking this stuff in other sub-forum I would understand, but this is the part for questions, aren't we suposed to ask stuff in here?
The last thing I want is to abuse or anything, I'm just asking here because I made a search on the internet and I didn't find anything helpful, and I thought that it was possible that someone here could had the same problem and know how to fix it...
My english is not perfect, dunno if I sounded rude on the first post up there, if so, sorry, don't need to be rude back... That wasn't my objective...
Now, about the backups, you said that it's possible to backup the whole phone, what do you mean about "whole"? It include the OS? So if I put the 7.8 I couldn't restore the savegames? If I try to restore it'll downgrade?

GoodDayToDie is refering to this comment... Here at XDA we DO NOT condone, encourage, support or assist in Piracy!
well damn, is it too late to just forget this little part?
In fairness, the loss of app progress is a huge problem however those apps got on your phone (yes, I do a ton of gaming on my phone, and at one point lost a lot of progress when I had to roll back the phone without being able to back up app data). That's why we do now, in fact, have tools for backing up the file in individual apps.
As for the "whole phone" thing, that's everything - the OS, the firmware, and the data - all in one opaque and encrypted blob. It's very handy for something to do before you mess with your phone's ROM or try experimental hacks. However, when it's restored, it overwrites everything on the phone back to that state. There's no way to do it piecemeal.

Is it documented someplace on what to backup with this before installing a custom rom ? Under a quick look and search, I could not find the exact info on how to do this correctly

I did seach, sorry if I missed it someplace....
Thanks in advance !
well, looks like i'm a bit out of luck...
I tried doing backup of the savegames with Windows Phone Device Manager, and installed the new ROM to see if it would fix the call quality...
well, it didn't, then I had an idea, and took off the case, and discovered that the case was causing this problem, it was in front of the microphone, that's why it was making echo, it was capturing sound from inside the phone, and I could hear her voice very low...
basically I "formated" the phone for nothing... and I tried to restore the backups I made on the WPDM, and it said that it restored successfully, but I tried the games... and it was with 0% progress !!!
I trully should have tried to learn more about making that full backup, it would be useful now!!!
edit: well, just kinectimals worked the backup

Did you have to redownload the games before restoring ?
well, I installed them, then tries to restore the backup but nothing happened, didnt had to redownload and it's still 0%...
But don't worry, at least I discovered what was causing the call problem... Now we just need to make a little cut on the case!
