Whats the Best Performing Windows Phone With A Keyboard - General Questions and Answers

And when I mean best, I mean 2d hardware acceleration,3d hardware acceleration, decent specs and it can run TomTom 6 or 7 with a silky smooth framerate like the Nokio 6680 (dream right) and isnt too problem matic.. (hardware wise)...

HTC Touch Pro2 if you want the better keyboard and TouchFLO3D.
Else it's the Samsung B7610 OmniaPRO, which rocks a 800Mhz CPU with a dedicated graphics accelerator. The Omnia has TouchWiz by the way.

I agree, from the current HTC lineup there really isn't much with a hardware keyboard (unfortunately!) So the Touch Pro2 is definitely the best bet with that. It's likely that you'll consider a different manufacturer for that reason... I don't suppose you'd go for Android? There are some nice Snapdragon qwertys coming out soon on that platform.

Well, I was basically talking about the Droid X. Shouldn't be too long... Some sites say July on Verizon.

To kekkle - Good Answer...

HTC Rhodium
By far, the best hardware keyboard device out there

checking it out now.. but what about tomtom7 smooth performance like the nokia phone.. or close to it. My tilt2's tomtom7 performance is sucky.. would it run faster in 6.1 rather than 6.5?

If you already have the Touch Pro2 then you won't find much better with a qwerty keyboard running Windows Mobile.

Looking to get an HTC Touch Pro, touchflo question

I was wondering. I am an ex-Tytn II owner and I was aggrevated on how slow the phone was.
Is the HTC Touch Pro much faster now? Like Touch Flo is it similar to speed as the IPhone?
I am worried about getting the HTC Touch Pro to find out its slow/sluggish.

With the newer ROMs and tweaks, it's very fast. There's no huge lag like when it first came out, you'll be happy with it.
I would say the speed is much improved but not what it should be. I would say it is comparable to my Iphone 3G 90% of the time.
I have to ask myself... currently I use SPB Mobile Shell and I love the Dial Tab, which offers two-touch dialing of eleven most-used contacts. Is the contacts system in TouchFlo3D at all as convenient and quick?
Thanks.

Is it only in certain applications that this 10% lag occurs?
Actually is there a video showing the phone in action with the updated Rom? i saw the video by wired and it looks sluggish in that video. thats not with the newest rom is it?

Welcome to the forum!
My vote goes for HD
I agree with orb that it's HD for 2008!
bty, there are already many threads on this "best" subject...
all i see anywahere is alk about the HTC touch. never used one but i guess it has to be a great phone
I think it should be the HTC Touch Diamond, because it's internet memory of 4gb

why X1?
Fuze/raphael/HD does everything X1 does, minus the $1000 price tag and pkus better performance.

LMAO.... if it was "best overrated toy of 2008"
if best pda means best specs, features, and style... touch pro all the way
but i vote for the Titan for the sole reason that its over a year old and has gone through it all and still up to date with current models. from locked to unlocked gps, crappy internet speeds to evdo rev-a upgrade, wm6.0 to wm6.1, from standard wm today to htc home to manila2d etc. etc.
unlike the iphone who needed to release a 2nd gen model just to get 3g speeds
TOUCH PRO! ...with an extended battery.

Hmmm, you should have added a vote with the most common devices listed!
However, 'BEST PDA' is really a personal opinion - it all depends what you use it for! There are certain criterias, so, if you ask me about the keyboard, I most likely would say: Tytn II. If you ask me about the performance and features, I would say: OMnia. If you ask me about the design, well, I can't help it: X1!!!
Samsung i780...

I'm still using the A701 and I think it's a good allround device.

By that criteria it should be the Nokia N97 since it has 32 GB of ROM.

The X1 has more RAM than any of the phones you listed and a higher resolution screen than all but the HD.
..and xperia looks way better than others, also got keybord and xpanels which are more useful than touchflo3d also better battery, and camera(pictures are looking better on screen on x1 than on others, only hd got more MPX) and LED
Touch Diamond.
Small and sexy with sharp display, only negative about the device is the poor battery.
thats why there is an comm-menager to switch on/off the data and wifi and bluetooth on this device?
and thats why u get an charger in your box with it
AND THE WINNER IS......
SONY ERICSSON XPERIA X1 [SEX1] !!!
(IMHO)
Why ?? Well, matter of choices really, I won't argue; just speak out my oppinions:
Sony has done a cool blend of high tech and art here. A real "convergence device". HTC is GREAT, but HTC+SONY=SYNERGY !!!
I've had the tytn, diamond, blackstone... none of them gathered what Sony put in here:
1- beutiful WVGA screen
2- handsome and sexy metal case
3- cool LEDs
4- "bunny-forever" big battery
5- biggest RAM in the market
6- hardware keyboard
7- Sony's "panels" interface with the neat Sony media panel
8- etc etc etc
LOL, I just don't see that this thread is going anywhere ... evry1 has a different opinion anyway, so, what is the point ???
Agree
Perhaps if all can vote here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=446362 (Only devices made by HTC and supported on this site)
We could get concrete results
I seen this topic before but i made this one because some people may put here pda's like Asus or something... i didnt meant only HTC devices and only made in 2008

Strange Device running Windows Mobile 6.5

Check this out - it's called the Exeda??? (Never heard of them - apparently they specialise in embedded systems.
Also 6.5 looks very very very nice... Stunning even... and very different...
Very different to the builds I've seen floating around - (cough... blueangel... cough...)
http://www.exedamobile.com/web/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=3&Itemid=7
sigh, I had really wanted them to put the task bar at the bottom or completely away with it and leave a 75% opaque small strip up there.
sure hope they improve email rendering.
but to heck with all the pictures I want to see it running. I want to have a good sense of what to expect.
but it looks ok so far.
I have seen these earlyer and the build they use with honeycomb interface and with the new CHome (Codename Titanium) is a lot newer than the leaked ones
"ugly device running on Windows Mobile 6.5" would've been a better title.
My question is how will 6.5 work with Touchflo 3D?
Finally, some better shots of WM 6.5. I hope they do more than just change the today screen though.

YUP = that one's got me confused too...
HTC'll probably have to disable it - therefore negating all their initial efforts to aesthetically update the wm gui...
hmmmm - guess time will tell on this one...
Am looking forward to the HTC's Rhodium and Tungsten running this WM 6.5 though - although I'd love those 2 phones to run Android too...
yeh, they can dump that device!
but, I'm itching to flash a 6.5 beta anyday now!

YUP - Me too!
Anything other than base 6.1 whatever build on my TPro sounds good to me!
6.1 feels like it's been out for eons!
True & very boring, WM6.1 has been out now for almost 18 months!
Goes to show how slow MS really is!
6.5 is just a minor ugrade to 6.1 hardly worth the extra 0.4 from what I've heard.
Tomal already has it working on a Universal http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=473096&page=3

Touch HD or Omnia2

Hay guys,
I am getting a new PDA, I have tytn now and it has served me good.
Could you give me your look on this two models, I am thinking about Samsung, since it has much better specs and display, but I got used to touchflo 3D interface a lot...
Is it possible to put it on Omnia?
Your answer will be appreciated and will help me decide what to buy.
Thanks!
There is one added value for choosing HD
The sup`port of this fantastic site!!
Just because of that I´ll choose HD even if omnia has better specs...
Yes, that is bothering me too...
Well if you're not gonna flash your device or use Touch Flo 3D or any other ported software, than get Omnia 2.
You will still be able to get support in this forum. Most of the issues of non-HTC devices can be supported/solved without the need to correspond to an HTC device.
You could use TouchFlo 3D on your Omnia 2 if its WVGA. However as mentioned above the support provided by this site significantly exceeds that of any site that supports the Omnia. To be completely honest, if you havent bought your device yet you should consider the Touch Diamond II. The reasoning behind this is i read an article somewhere mentioning that devices without a windows button will not get an official WM6.5 ROM or something stupid like that (Correct me if im wrong).
Ill be upgrading from my Tytn to an Omnia2
I agree that HTC gets great support here but Hardware and capability wise there is nothing to compare with the omnia2 on the horizon.
AMOLED screen, headphone jack,tv-out,5mpx cam with dual flash....what more could anyone possibly want?

A forum specialized like this for that device!!!
Hmm, the Touch HD vs Omnia II i8000.
Well, lets face it, this is a question of 'XDA support' or 'No XDA support'. Specs-wise, the i8000 has the Touch HD crushed completely (as have been the case with all new Samsung models; HTC hasn't updated their specs in forever).
Personally, if you ask me for a choice between those two models, I would go with the i8000. The main reason I love XDA support is that it makes the interface looks better and it makes the software faster, but from what I see, the i8000 is already plenty fast and it looks very, very good. Furthermore, the i8000 has support forums too (though not on the level of XDA), so any deficiency may be corrected by its own forums anyway.
The idea of choosing a WM device based on software seems very silly to me. One can find a CAB for just about any Windows Mobile software (including, yes, TouchFlo 3D), so transition between WM devices based on software is very simple. If anything, the i8000 should be more appealing software-wise as Samsung put a lot of amazing software on it that has not been ported to other devices yet.
Always buy for the better specs and design. Never buy for the software support. Buy for the software that is already provided.
Any extras can be found on other fan sites and other non-htc developers. Therefore the Omnia 2 is a much better choice.
Besides there are plenty of software that are created that supports non-htc devices, and there are also software that are created specifically for non-htc devices.
Furthermore alot of the technical problems are Windows Mobile based and not always HTC based.
The only 2 reasons to get HTC devices is 1) if you prefer the design and the specs of HTC and 2) if you want to flash your ROM.
HTC devices are easily flashed to a different ROM, but hey man not everyone uses ROMs... I don't ever use ROM's...
Therefore Omnia 2 is a perfect choice if you don't flash your ROM...and point number 1 shows that HTC Touch HD is outdated....so therefore get Omnia 2 if you don't flash your ROM....
Think about it mate.

a zooming ability on the video camera (while filming)
also, can it play divx/xvid movies like the HD can with coreplayer?
i download movies and dont have to re-encode them, just drag, drop, play. (...generally, unless there was some esoteric encoding used)
mark
I have the same dilemma. I am about to replace my Sony Ericsson W960i with a proper PDA and I am taking into account both, Touch HD and Omnia II.
Similarly I would like to have a Touch Flo 3d interface on my device and therefore I was keener on HTC Touch HD at first. However since it is possible to get a Touch Flo 3d onto all WinMo devices (as I deduced from 8525Smart's post)

I rather buy Omnia.

1. Are my assumptions concerning getting Touch Flo 3d onto Omnia correct?
2. Could anyone explain to me this ->

What does it mean to"flash your ROM" and how is it useful? Isn't it simply upgrading/updating the ROM?
I'd be grateful if you could help
well livegod guess what ! omnia2 has zooming while taking videos with its awesom camera
and the touch player can support almost 99% of all my downloaded and converted movies
as for the TF3D .. i love the new one and i cant seem to find it anywhere to be installed on my omnia2
i hate the widgets... makes the phone looks like a toy so i am using spbmobile shell + pointui
i'am from germany and I have the same problem.....
But here I can buy the Omnia in a few month....:-(
But what is whith the HTC LEO????????
Touchwiz 2.0 quite simply covers up WM 6.1 SO thoroughly on the Omnia II, it's almost like you're not using a Windows phone. The Omnia II is definitely the better pick unless you REALLY want ROMs to flash. Then wait for the Whitestone or Firestone or whatever HTC have next.
omnia camera is far better than the HD2
especially the video recording
the HD2 dont have a chance
but i dont care about the video recording so i will get the HD2
HD2, wins every time. You can flash what ever you want (when hspl comes out!), why would you ever want an omnia?
Hands down the HD2 (Leo). PPC of the year so far!
Samsung Omnia 2 place...
I'm a Forum XDA user for a long time.
It helped me a lot with my old HTC Wizard.
I was quite worried about buying an Omnia2 and losing the Forum support. But HTC HD cannot win O2 in SPECS.
About support... boys I have to admit.
For Omnia2 (that is not a HTC device) the best software and tweaks and amazing ROMs can be found on MODACO (sorry boys, but I have to say).
If you own an HTC device don't even consider getting there. The best place is here!!!
Concerning the TouchFlo3D, there are many versions available on MODACO. There's even a HTC HD2 like ROM with Sense 2.5
Thanks!

next phone ?

hero - magic - tattoo ?
They all are on android ? Which one to choose ?
I'm opting for magic - with one exception, no real qwerty keyboard.
Tia,
m32
I've had a Tattoo. I sent it back. I'm gonna get a Nokia of all phones next. Decided I'll get a n97 mini. I like them, they look solid.
The Tattoo was very good. But I was disappointed by the processer. I don't think it would last a 24 month contract before I smashed it up. For example, they bundled 2 games on the phone, and neither were smooth. They were both jerky and nasty.
Android does look the way forward though.
Well they all don't have a hardware keyboard
Go for Hero or Magic, they have the same hardware, the Tattoo has a worse screen.
You can easily get Sense on the Magic, so that's not a reason for the Hero (unless you don't want to flash )
