Root Miphone - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hi everyone!
Got this Miphone A3 yesterday, and I been searching like a fool after information about this damn phone but it ain't a easy thing to find.
But hey, what do you expect from a cloned iphone
So here's my question:
Anyone sitting on a Miphone and have you done anything with it, most imporant for everything, ROOTED?
Phone info on the phone:
Model number:
A8
Where I bought it, it said A3 on the site (mobino1), same on the battery.
But instead of the iPhone Ui it has the Android Ui pretty sweet that it didnt have the iPhone Ui.
Firmware:
1.5
Don't have Android Market app, but everything looks like Android, also works to install . apk apps tried to install apps from 1.6+ but doesn't work.
Kernel:
2.6.25
Build number:
Linkworld Project .0002_A.1_01r_100129
Been looking for that build number for a while now, don't have any info at all on that one.
Hope some1 here has some info, would be a blessing for me!
EDIT:
I found my way into what i think is the recovery mode, came up a where is said enter flash mode put in usb cable, with red background. Then when i did that, the screen turn blue saying "Enter Flash mode, Begin to flash image..."
Been reading a lot, and i never came up with that kind of "bootloader" just saying that
hope some1 could give me some tips

hi, one of the stores provided firmware from A3, I do not know how fresh. ussd queries are unsuccessful, after ussd calls to hang up. In flash mode turns pressing the upper side volume buttons and switch.
depositfilescom/files/0po3pwcu6 - miphone A3 rom

thanks for that one!
flashed my phone, worked! but it wasnt the same version. this one was with the iphone ui (using ahome)
Model number:
A3
Build number: A3 Project.0001_18r_100411
Seems like my 3G connection does not work with this version. ussd, unsuccessful on this version too, same with previous version.
I was wondering, tried to open the one.bin (flash image) but cannot extract it. Any way to extract the image and try to reconfigure the build?

the phone using "tavor platform" flashing software, anyone know anything about tavor platform?
still trying 2 modify the rom I have, no luck so far.

I do also have this phone from mobino1...
how do you try to modify the firmware you have?
Regards,
xift

I too am with the same problem I have software for Tavor flashing but without success for updated the firmware is in a single bin file without being able to extract and modify

tried to get the firmware from mobino1 but they just ignore mig those bastards.

Do you want to flash your phone with the .bin file you already have or do you want to know how to update the phone to android 1.6+?
To flash your phone with tavor flashing software, you need to run the flash program in XP and press "volume up" and "power" on the phone to get to flash mode, then plug in the usb with the flash program open, and it automatically flash the phone.
About updating the phone to a newer version of android I have not a solution.
I been trying to, get info on the hardware so I could try to cook a own rom with at least android 2.0
Cheers

sorry i don't have the firmware as a rom file either...
and these mobino1 bastards ignore me too ^^
although they admitted they could contact the developers...
new firmware would be nice... or at least the current firmware.
I did not downgrade it yet and I think I won't do that.
Another problem could be that the bootloader only runs signed firmware image (just guessing).

I know how to flash I want is a newer room the problem these Chinese are not then updated dependent on us for a updated
(question) has a possibility to use, one firmware and change to a bin file to MiPhone a3

If they just told me straight up, we just sell the phone, we don't have any contact what so ever with the manufacture or developers I would accept it. But this just pissed me off.
I've been asking around on other sites that sells the phone, waiting on answers from them. Hopefully they are more friendly.
Don't downgrade, that was a mistake for me (the rom file azat182 nicely posted).
I tried something yesterday, made a own .bin file with android 2.1 but the flash program wouldn't start with it (parse ini error) so I tricked the flash program that it would flash the one.bin (azat182) rom file.
After it opened I replaced the .bin file with mine. Everything seems to work fine, did every step it should like, root system etc finished 100% when I tried to turn the phone on I couldn't, maybe it didn't know were the power "button" source came from.
The android source was made for an other phone, so I wasn't surprised.
Plugged the usb back in, and luckily the phone connected somehow with the computer so I flash it with the (azat182) rom and I'm back at square -1
but now I think, if I could find out the hardware/drivers on this damn phone it would work to cook a own rom using that method.
Cheers

Oh hey, someone else with one of these phones. I've been messing with mine for a while, started out with the A8 rom (from fastcardtech), and have flashed the A3 rom to the device. I've noticed that the gps works a lot better in the A3 rom than the A8, so it's not much of a downgrade, imo. Recently I've made some headway with an android 2.1 port to the device.
Anyway, this device isn't hard to root. If you adb into it, you can get root from the device by remounting /system as RW and pushing a fixed su binary to /system/bin, or wherever it goes, it's been a while
The MTD partitioning in the Miphone's rom is a big giant mess. The rom is split into 25 partitions, the kernel isn't in boot.img like it's supposed to be, neither are the kernel parameters.
The bootloader is dumb, it doesn't check for signed images. The A3 image and A8 image are both engineering builds.

wow you seem to know a lot about it...
does 3g work for you in the a3 rom? also gps doesn't work for me in a8... so a3 could be a possibility if 3g worked.
how did you adb your phone? I could not connect... the driver just didn't show a phone. although I changed the vendor ids etc...
could you write a short tutorial of some sort? would be nice!
if you are root, couldn't you make a backup of your firmware?
is there a downloadable a8 rom at fastcardtech?
regards, xift

I haven't been able to get 3g working, just edge. I don't think the 3g will work in the US, as none of the carriers will work with just wcdma2100, but I'm no expert on the subject. I've had reasonably good luck with the gps with an app called Maverick, but I don't have a data plan currently, so no agps. With gps alone, it takes about a minute or so in an open area to acquire a lock.
For ADB, there's a driver in the android sdk, but don't bother with it. Instead, the phone's going to show up as a rndis/ethernet gadget. For windows, drivers for this can be found at webos-internals.org/wiki/USBnet_networking_setup, just the .inf is all you'll need; MacOS and Linux will just see the ethernet gadget. Once that's installed, the phone will show up on the PC side as a network interface that will need an IP address; I've been using 169.254.231.10 and subnet 255.255.255.0. Once your network interface is configured, you should be able to run adb connect 169.254.231.168:5555, assuming you've got your android sdk tool set up already. From there, you can adb shell in and poke around. Once you get an adb shell, you'll have a root prompt, but to get 'rooted' so that other android apps can make use of it, you'll want to run adb remount to remount /system as RW, then copy a working version of su over to the phone. I think superuser whitelist comes with one.
I don't usually go to that much trouble, as I end up cycling between the A3 firmware and my Eclair build a lot, and the A3 rom is jacked up to where it's a pain to get a terminal emulator running on it. Adb from my desktop seems to get the most mileage.
Fastcardtech didn't have any useful information about recovery firmware that they had, a release date for an android 2.1 rom, information on the manufacturer, anything.

Wow thanks a lot... I tried with the sdk driver.
port 5555 seemed blocked there although it was obviously responding (took much longer than other ports). Thanks for your help - I'll try that one.
Could you upload your eclaire build?
I don't have much time at the moment because of my bachelor's thesis. But I'd like to see that and maybe I could help a bit. Although I do not have any experience with mobile devices etc.

You may need to mess with the usb debugging option. After flashing to the a3 rom, it's enabled. I remember it being the same between the a8 and a3 roms.
At some point, yeah, I'll my eclair build up. I'd like to at least get bluetooth, gsm and wifi going again before I do. I don't have a rom that you'd be able to flash currently; more like a big pile of build scripts, and install scripts for the android system and ramdisk.

yeah I understand that. You could open a google code project or something.
nice to know that there is somebody working on this.
usb debugging is enabled by default. I'll just have to try again.
thanks for your help so far.

file inf
I not have disk only cd and dvd when I will install the drive without the disk says no drive found I save the file as usbnet-pre.inf
if anyone can help me pls

well I also had problems installing the driver in windows ...
It always said something like "No driver found at that location".
You could try on linux though... It worked like a charm for me.
I'm root now
@nsigma is there anything I could provide you from the a8 image?

[Q] An image (dump) of the ROM from a running WP7 device? Possible?

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, I've done a search and can't find anything.
I know there's a few dumps of WP7 roms on the forum. But my understanding is that these have been from the rom files rather than from a phone. My question is is there a way to get a copy of EVERYTHING in the rom/nand from a working WP7 phone onto a computer/drive? I know there's tools on this forum for editing WP7 roms, but again, my understanding is that those roms weren't ripped from a working phone, rather from the rom file.
I know someone has used a HTC TyTn and has terminaled into the bootloader to send commands to dump the rom. Is this possible with a WP7 deivce? Say the HD7?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
yes i believe ppl flash new roms to unbrand their devices, you should check the devices forum, bet ull find roms there..

the rom's here on the forum(except the one's for the hd2) are original stock rom's for wp7 phones that can be flashed on real wp7 phones (with the same vendor ID)
you can't dump the actual rom from your phone right now (maybe later, but it will def take some time)

What phone(s) can you actually do a dump of the actual rom from the phone right now?
I understand some phones have things like clockwork recovery or magldr installed and use that to write new roms to the phone. Can the same programs not read (or backup) the current rom?

I can only talk for wm/wp and only from wm (6.*) you can dump the rom using a tool that is installed on the phone .
if you had a jtag or something like that you could dump (read the ROM/NAND and copy it) almost any phone.
but a jtag is hardware and it cost money (lots of it) and you need to know exactly how to work with it and you would need to open your phone (till the last screw)
I don't know clockwork .
magldr is something like a second bios (not right , but for you to understand) that help to start the os (normally the spl/hspl will do that )
magldr is used only for playing tetris and to load android/wp7 to a phone that isn't build to run that kind of os
it can only load something , it can't dump a rom.

What tools can you use in WM6.* to dump the rom? I've read an article where someone used terminal commands and did a dump through the bootloader. Is there another way to do it?
I know about JTags, and am not touching them!
My point with clockwork and magldr is that if you can write (load) android/wp7 to the rom/nand, surely you should be able to get it to read from it?
It seems like either there's no way to do it with wp7 yet, or at least I've not found a way. But I was thinking if you can't do it with a real wp7 device since there's no clockwork/magldr, then can you take a dump of an HD2 with wp7 loaded into the rom/nand?
I have searched for a samsung focus stock rom in the past but I couldn't find it anywhere? have you seen any one?

Excuse me newbieness but if I'm getting you correctly, you're saying that it is possible for my to extract the ROM from a working Samsung Focus and then write it to my bricked Samsung Focus using a JTag?
Totally possible, theoretically.
The WM/WP OS image is only a piece of data saved in a flash partition, bootloader can read the content from the flash partition out and transfer bytes to PC (no need to care about the file system, just perform flash chip level read), but the question is you must know how to communicate with the bootloader and send proper command to it. And as I know in the shipped device, the ability usually will be removed from bootloader for security reasons (e.g. eboot is useful in development phase, but it must be removed from shipped device).
Yes, you also could use JTAG to read content out but due to the same reason, the debug port on the SoC usually also be disabled in shipped device (like Tegra, it has internal fuses to enable/permanently disable the JTAG).

I think reading the OS partition when OS is running is impossible (frankly, I never verified it). Two reasons, first the OS partition should be locked by last phase bootloader or some early bootup codes in OS (just set the NAND controller in SOC), and since OS is running, many system files are in memory so the corresponding files should also be locked by OS.
It is safe to dump whole OS image in bootloader, or so-called recovery mode.
So someone basically has to install a custom bootloader on the device. Then again, if the NAND is locked, that wont be possible.
QPST and Memory Debug allow to download raw NAND and radio copy. i've succesfully one it (even found private info like passwords and contacts), but i don't know how to split it into partitions. Mb anyone will help?
Maybe starting a new topic about it here would help. Might attract the attention of some other devs.

[ROM]DocHoppyRom NEXTBOOK 7 Premium*updated DocHoppyRom Full On Rootv2.0*2/14/2012

I was working on a ICS based hoppy rom. Unfortunately I just had a catastrophic screen failure, apparently when my laptop bag fell last night, it landed with enough force to shatter the screen on my nextbook! Oh well. it may be a while before I can work on anything to further the version I was working on.
FYI- Due to work, my time is very limited for working on the next version of Hoppy Rom. I apologize in advance. The company I work for is
setting up new engine test cells in China, and my self and 2 other people are main points of support! again Sorry for anything new taking so long!
DOCHOPPY HAS BEEN SIGHTED (Other than on a DAYZ server...Stay tuned.
Ok I have decided to pass along what I have been working on.

CRAMFS STYLE 3.0
AND
FULL ON ROOT v2.0
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for Bricked Tablets. This is known to work on tablet with SN starting with YF1011, and some YF1211.
First you will need to decide which version of the Rom you are going to load. The CRAMFS Style version has SU but you CANNOT write to the /system directory. This is a good all around Rom for those who may need SU but do not need to write to /system.
Full On Root is just that, you have full read write to the /system and can customize the Rom to your hreats content.
HOW TO INSTALL:
TO FLASH CRAMFS STYLE 3.0 Put the UPDATE.IMG file from the Cramfstyle Folder onto your SD card, while tablet is on and follow the on screen instructions.
After running the self extracting Zip file you will have a directory containing the following folders and files.
Drivers (folder)
CramfsStyle(folder)
FullonRoot(folder)
Log(folder)
Language(folder)
Readmefirst.txt
Rkusb.log
RkusbComm.dll
Setting.ini
RK29update.exe
TO FLASH CRAMFS STYLE 3.0 Put the UPDATE.IMG file from the Cramfstyle Folder onto your SD card, while tablet is on and follow the on screen instructions.
To flash Full On ROOT, Plug your nextbook into your PC via usb cable. Turn your nextbook over and with a safety pin or something of similar size, press and hold the reset button for 2 to 3 seconds.
Run the RK29update.exe
Select your Rom files via the boxes containing the .... And navigate to the correct directory for the rom you want to install.
Insert eache file in order according to the update tool.
Clear IDB. (this is like a lowlevel format for the Rom tool:
After the Tool says OK. Select Run. This will begin to load the Rom onto your tablet. It will go through loading and then checking the Rom install.
After the Rom loads and the tool comes back with an OK, patiently wait for the tablet to reboot, and load the new ROM. If the tablet is still connected to the pc via USB when the rom boots it will show the screen allowing you to select weather or not to turn on USB storage. Press the home key and you will be given a choice of Golauncher or Rklauncher. (go lock is a screen lock program.)
Enjoy the Rom!

Features for both Roms:
Complete and correctly working market. It now correctly associates the tablet to your gmail account allowing purchases from market.
Launcher 3.0 as well as Go launcher ex. Launcher 3.0 was pulled from an rk2918 firmware3.0 update and put into this rom.
Google Calendar is now back and working correctly.
Original Email is back and working correctly.
Included Kindle App
Included Estrongs file explorer.
Both have SU though the Cramfs version cannot write to SW.
Removed Apps Added in last release and return to more of a original rom state.
Rom is pretty clean. And seems speedy.
Cramfs Style 3.0 Rom has 200mb internal Ram +/-
Full On Root 2.0 has 894MB of Free Internal Ram.

So freaking sweet, great work on RW!
I used Wendal's tool to decompress the cramfs file system.
As for the /system, Because the device uses cramfs, and based on everything I have read, using Wendal's tool to decompress the file system, make the changes, and compress is the only way I can see to be able to
customize the rom for the device. The image is rooted, but after the update.img is compressed, the /system file remains read only. I tested this using root explorer, but anything requiring su works fine. But all hope may not be lost, I was reading on a chumby forum someone suggested using mkfs.jffs to make it writable, but further down it notes that you would need to change the kernel (easy enough to recompile I think), to utilize a different file system. The boot loader would also need to be modified, something I am not ready to try and tackle just yet, I think I would be bricking my nextbook pretty quickly.
It is a start and I am actually learning a lot as I go.
Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome.
I am definitely a long time user / cyanogenmod / aosp fan, but as far as ripping open .img files its definitely new territory, I tried to find an internal SD card like the nook has, to maybe dump it, but I cannot find such a beast. Any progress you make is awesome. So do things like root explorer work, just not on /system due to cramfs?
Correct, root explorer does work, but due to cramfs, it does not allow you to toggle to rw from ro on the /system.
Working on taking apart apk's and customizing and rebuilding and resigning next.
just flashed this rom and it works great!
How would I go about doing a custom boot animation or image?
... even if it means flashing a new rom from clean?
This is great. Thanks. The only question I have is why do I see so few items in Market? Does it have anyhting to do with compatability?
Calendar & Sync Access
First, thank you for your work.
Before I update by Next7P, have you included Google Calendar and Sync access in this update?
I use MyPhoneExplorer and will need calendar sync to work so I can fully use for business.
Thanks.
There is another method to get Google Market on the Next7P, I am a new user so I can not post the link, but google , forums Whirlpool net au archive 1756859
, very easy and works great, but cannot get sync to work.
Dan,
Thanks for the responses!
sgtfoo : You can use Wendal's rk29xx tool to take a copy of my rom image, or the original update downloadable from nextbookusa.com, and
unpack it. You then have access to the system directory in an editable format. you can go into the system folder /system/media and replace the bootanimation.zip file with another one. Just be sure the image format is 480x 800 and that the zip file has 0% compression ratio. After you make the changes, just repack .img file via Wendal's tool and reflash.
dodoclub : Not sure why. I have a full market. You might try clearing the data and cache for the market. My market shows pretty full, I.E. I got 31050 entries when I searched for facebook in the market.
Danno65: Actually that is something I have been working on. I can get my google calendar to sync, currently I am using a calendar from the market called Jorte, which works great, how ever, googles actual calendar.apk closes unexpectedly, I am thinking it is just a version problem with the calendar, but haven't had a lot of time to follow up on it.
FYI here is the link to Wendal's tool, which makes it much easier to work on the update.img file.
https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B8hUXYDeoy_hNTc1YTVkYTMtNTNjZS00YjI2LTgyNDYtYjRjZjFmODdiZTQ1&pli=1

If you have any request or questions please feel free to ask, I will help anyway I can.
Thanks Dochoppy
Got one of these tablets for Christmass to replace an old broken tablet I use for work.
Google hosts our work email, so I still need to get Contacts and Appointments going, but I maybe able to side load them.
Noticed build.prop still has ro.secure=1. This prevents adb from having root access??
Calendar & Sync Access
DocHoppy,
I came across a post where the "Calendar.apk" and "CalendarProvider.apk" files must be in the "system/app" directory to work properly, I tried to copy these files to the above directory but found it to be read/only, will wendalls tool have to be used to get access to the directory?
Also, did you get your google calendars on your desktop to sync with Jorte on the Next7P, I tried but no luck.
Thanks
Dan
The updated image file worked great, thanks again
Thank you so much for your work in building a new rom for this thing. I am anxiously awaiting a new filesystem so we can have true root. How do we manage to recompile the kernel for ext4 support and change the /system fs?
Hello, first of all, thanks for your work!

I would say the serial number would have something to do with it, check on the site for nextbook and see if your serial is in the same *batch* as ours, if the original serial is in a different group, im assuming the hardware may be slightly different? If so, you can always use his method to repack the original with root.
First off I would like to say that I was very pleased when I came across this thread from another one. I haven't flashed this ROM yet, but plan to. Thank you for your work on this as I have been searching the whole internet since I got this thing [4 weeks now] for some sort of custom ROM. It is hard to use this tablet when I have ICS on my Captivate and Vibrant. GB just isn't as cool.
One thing I hope we can work on is root access, so we then can use Titanium Backup. Then we won't have to manually reload everything when new releases come out.
With all that being said, if there is anything I can do to help, I would love to. Like I said, I plan on flashing this probably tomorrow or Tuesday. Thanks again.
For the record, I got titanium backup working fine on this rooted rom. it is capable. You just need to reboot after it restores a backup.
i'm new to android. glad to see rooted rom finally, keep it up!!!
i have a clarification, any improvement in the booting time? my device took 1min30sec (power ON to ready to use, for me, 90sec seem like not fast enough).
Good luck on improving boot time. And besides a tablet is best used when on all the time... try using the suspend state to quickly wake it. We're just starting with the early versions of this rom... give it time to grow.

Build.prop editing
Okay so observation:
Our tablet is not recognized as a "tablet" by the Android market, only and android device.
What prop would I have to edit in order to have us recognized as I tablet. I noticed this when:
I finally managed (through some internet tutorial before this rom) get the market working (the first version, not 3.1+). And when I downloaded apps (I'll use Minecraft Pro as an example) I noticed that the way mine looked and the way the tablet version looked via android market photos and Youtube, ours looks like an enlarged phone version rather than a tablet optimized version. What can I edit to fix this?
Flashed this today... so for it works great. Love the new boot animation. Great work and can not wait for future releases!

One thing that would be great on a future release [not sure if it is possible yet with out r/w], would be a bigger data partition for apps. Moving everything large to the SD is ok, just takes longer to boot those apps. A kernel that would allow voltage control app [like CPU Master] to work also. Just a thought!

LY-F1 ICS 4.0 update instructions and download links

This is a way to update to ICS 4.0 with a majority of the program working on your tablet, this is not the manufactures firmware so I am not responsible if you brick your tablet. I do not take credit for any of these downloads, this is just a compilation of all the best ones I could find to make this process easy and work as best as possible.
This process is very simple especially if you have already run the factory firmware update on your tablet.
Known not working:
The physic buttons at the bottom of the tablet (home, menu, and back) will not work with this firmware but can be worked around with an app download called Button Savior.
Netflix for me has been a black screen with sound working, haven't really worked on a fix for this one yet.
Auto rotate does not seem to work either so I would recommend just turning it off and letting the programs you run decide which way the screen should be.
Here is a list of the things you will need in order to do the firmware update to 4.0 including links:
Link for Production Software to push new firmware to device.
http://www.lyxfsz.com/cn/downs_view.htm?id=30
momo9 ICS 4.0 Update
http://narod.ru/disk/37649199001/MOMO9C-4-Kevin.rar.html
Scritps for working market place.
http://api.viglink.com/api/click?fo...ownload link&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13268322030251
Link for downloading pdanet for the usb drivers to work with ADB
http://junefabrics.com/android/download.php
You will also need android sdk downloaded in order to run the scrips to have a working market through ADB shell.
To make this process run smoothly you will need to rename the .img file and .key from the momo9 update file to the following.
a710-v0.5.1.img
proxypid1_solution_net_141516D2-8AC7-4a7a-8D0A-1E49BE70842E.key
Once you have the the necessary downloads complete, the process is very simple.
1.Turn your tablet off and run the firmware update software on your computer. You will re-name the .img and .key files as stated earlier and load them into the software.
2. You will now press start on the program and on your tablet you will now put a small pin in the bottom of the tablet in the hole to the right of the mini hdmi port (this will prompt the tablet to receive the update) and now connect the usb cable and release the pin once usb cable is connected.
3.Once the update is finished you will need to disconnect the usb cable and restart your tablet.
4.Once tablet is restarted you will need to run the PDAnet download and install the software on to your computer and tablet. This will let your computer recognize your table so that ADB shell can now program your tablet.
5.Once PDAnet software is installed you may now run the scripts to have working market. This process is very simple and quick, all you have to do is double click on the .bat file and it will do the rest for you.
6.After the scripts run your tablet will automatically restart and you are almost done. There is only one more app you will need to download from the market in order to make this fully functional. The physic buttons at the bottom of the tablet will no longer work so you need to download an app from the market called Button Savior and set that up on your tablet. This app will take the place of those buttons.
If you have any questions or if I have left something out please let me know and I will get back to you asap.
thanks
Thanks for the useful info and step-by-step instructions.
What i'm wondering is if you feel there are any performance improvements from the upgrade. For instance, do you feel like the UI is any quicker compared to 2.3? I'm fairly happy with the stock setup, but faster is always better.
Yes I do feel the UI is much faster the 2.3 and also less performance draining due to minimal visual effects on transitions. Also it is more direct then 2.3 with the menus so it is easier to get around with.
and there are no other issues with this besides the capacitive buttons?
camera?
usb?
sd card?
wifi?
it's just odd that firmware for a different device would work so well with this one. The novo 7 elf has myriad issues, and that's with stock firmware designed for it! I guess it pays to have such similar hardware.
Yes everything worked fine with it other then the few things stated above. Yeah it is weird to have a firmware from a totally different device work so well. I figured that maybe the display or the touch screen would't work for starters, but bam right after install, almost everything worked great, and after work arounds there wasn't anything I couldn't do with it. I cant wait for the factory ICS to come out so we can start modding it to port over a new rom.
isnt there a way to remap the HW buttons?
Yeah that's definitely a possibility. If only I could open up the firmware image from the factory firmware or even better make a back up of it, then it would be easily edited.
What about this :
1. Fire up adb
2. Edit the key mapping file /system/usr/keylayout/sun4i-keyboard.kl

[Q] Can't flash A20 TV box!

Hello everyone,
I have bought various Android TV boxes in the past, and haven't had problems getting them up and running.
I recently ordered 2 chinese models from eBay however, which are giving me nothing but grief. I apologize in advance for such a loooong post, but I am at my wits end and I am really hoping someone can help me out.
The action was for this model here:
www.ebay.com.au/itm/231275032090
It appeared to be a pretty standard model, like a Justop 4.0, but with a hard switch where the optical should be, and a cut down remote.
Firstly, the Specifications according to the auction:
1GB ddr3
4GB nand flash
Allwinner A20 dual core 1GHz CPU
On closer inspection after receiving the unit, an additional physical difference is that the reset button appears to be between the USB ports, instead of behind the AV out - not a big deal.
After powering it up, I am having huge problems with them.
Firstly though, what the software says about the hardware:
Advanced Settings/About Tablet:
Model Number : BBA22
Android Version : 4.2.2
Firmware Version : V2.0
Kernel Version : 3.4.39 [email protected] #10 Wed May 14 22:36:36 CST 2014
Build Number : BBA22-UI4-V2.0.1
And what Droid Info says about the (relevant)hardware:
Model : BBA22 (sdk-normal)
Manufacturer : unknown
Chipset : sun7i
RIL version : sw-dataonly-ril-0.5
Build Number : BBA22-UI4-V2.0.1
Build Bingerprint : softwinners/ninss/ninss4.2.2/NinssSoftware/20140521:eng/test-keys
OS Version : Jelly Bean MR1 (4.2.2)
SDK : 17
CPU Architecture : ARMv7 Processor rev 4 (v71)
Now, the BIGGEST issue these things have, is that at random points of use, it comes up with a message "Warning - System configuration is inconsistent with the production configuration, please contact your supplier, thank you!". This message will flash over and over again for anything from 30 seconds to half an hour. I half suspect it has tablet code SOMEwhere in it also, as it keeps coming up with 'touch the circle' walkthroughs for applications like avia. This might be unrelated though, I have no idea.
So anyway, I have tried doing the Justop 4.0 flash method with a SD card, however it will not turn on if there is a card in the slot. Also, when you hold the reset button down and power it up, it does not seem to go into the diagnostic mode so I can't flash it that way either. I am guessing the ONLY way I can update short of soldering in a serial port, is to use the backup/restore function.
I read through this whole thread here, but cound not fine anything to help me:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2398632
If anyone has any ideas, please let me know, I seriously can't get anything to work. I thought maybe the 'hotspot' being enabled was causing the incinsistency problem, but I used a process killer to stop that at startup, still no luck. Doing a system reset through advanced config didn't help either, I got the error almost as soon as turning the unit back on.
I've attached pictures of the error I am getting, the top of the board, and the back if the board.
Cheers,
Smak
PS - I am yet to hear back from the seller, but if I ever do, I will post the result here...

I seem to be in a very similar situation. My device also reports as being "BBA22" but it's a different form factor and the identification on the board is "TXCZ_A20_v1.0". I tried contacting the people that made the board (Shenzhen Tianxing Chuangzhan Electronic Co.) but they refused to help. I also tried contacting the company that made the firmware images (Shenzhen NINSS Technology Ltd.) and they also refused. The supplier I bought the device from says they have the image file but they can't seem to figure out how to get it to me (they tried emailing the +200mb file then they gave up and stopped responding). The build number on my device is "BBA22-UI4-V2.0.4" so apparently there's an update available that may work on your device.
I'm pretty sure you need to flash the image using the Phoenixsuit program to make a special sdcard that you place in the device and boot from to reflash the device.
Please post your image file if you ever get it!

That is good to know, I might email them again now. Will let you know the outcome!
OK, so I got a reply from the seller.
I've attached the patch file and the instructions to this message, but theres a few things to note.
- Its only like 20 meg big, so it isnt a full firmware update
- The instructions talk about pressing the reset button at the start.., I don;t think this is neccesary if its rooted already
- The instructions are VERY engrish-y, basically just dump the update.zip onto a sd card, and apply the patch through the settings menu
- The default language is changed to some form of Chinese after applying, theres plenty pictorials on how to change the android language though.
- The version has been updated from BBA22-UI4-V2.0.1, to BBA22-UI4-V2.0.3 - This is still lower than the one you mentioned @ BBA22-UI4-V2.0.4
So far though, I have re-installed all my apps, and haven't seen the error.. yet. I was a little concerned it is still giving me touchpad tutorials, but mouse mode on the remote is making short work of those.
I'll just have to wait and see, I guess.

That seems very promising for you! Unfortunately it probably won't help me at all... It sounds like it's a sort of update patch instead of a whole image. Starting the device with the reset button causes it to load the recovery partition instead of the regular partition (I'm guessing you saw a green android with a text menu with options for recovery). I full flashing would/could involve an SDcard, but I think you would have to create it with Phoenixsuit and not just copy the file contents over (it would then just boot directly from the SDcard and you wouldn't need to press the reset button).
In my case, both the regular boot partition and the recover partition are wrecked so I couldn't even try this patch if I wanted to.
Thanks for posting, though... Hopefully it helps someone else out.

Hmm, is clockworkmod still a thing? I could try taking a backup of my ROM and see if that's something you can use.., only problem is I will need a bit of time. If I get a chance, I'll do it over the weekend. I will need a place to dump the image though, it will be too big to attach here, can sort that out later though.

I'd appreciate that... Your board seems to have a completely different layout, but all the same components. I'm not familiar with clockworkmod, though, so I'm not sure how that backup would work. I guess I'd need to get clockworkmod flashed on to the recovery partition first and then I could flash the backup to the NAND from there?

I'm not actually too sure. The last timed I used clockworkmod was for flashing a galaxy s2 phone, so I'm not even too sure if its still around or compatible with tv boxes. There will definately be SOME sort of tool though, that can take a full backup suitable for restoring. I'm about at the limit of my knowledge, so I am sort of playing by ear and going into a google-learn-try sort of cycle as I try different things. Maybe someone with more experience will stumble in here and let us know what we need to do
This is interesting... I found another device with an identical PCB board: YBKJ_A20 (I can't post links yet, but a Google search will find it) Several chips are different so the firmware would differ. It's so hard to work with these devices when no one claims credit for making a lot of these things!
What is J4?
http://dl-1.va.us.xda-developers.com/2/9/3/6/8/3/3/DSC_0207s.jpg
I was wondering what the upper left 2 pin connector is for? (the little white 2 pin plug next to the USB)
Is it SPDIF? Power input? output? Something else? I see in this picture a cable connected so i'm hoping you can tell.

So... For everyone looking for a full firmware for this box, and stumbled upon this thread from google like I did: DESPAIR NO MORE.
I found a compatible firmware for this device (exacly as described and same board as the one OP has) It will work even if your box came preinstalled with another software version, but its the same hardware
Found it in another thread, posted by @daaviles30 Its not EXACLY the same as the one I had originally loaded but appears to work without any issue whatsoever (even the remote works), if a little bit better.

Wow.
The Phoenixsuite makes an sdcard that flashes the internal memory. After it's finished flashing, you take the card out and it runs off of the internal NAND. That's it. It never runs the Android from the sdcard.
My device can boot from sd-card!!! I need to flash this to install your android!

Help/Stock ROM needed for MT6582 China tablet (B960)

Hi,
I recently bought a cheap tablet over Wish.com and succesfully installed CWM and rooted it with Mtk_Droid_Tool and SP_Flash_Tool (plus Super SU zip)
Unfortunately I must confess to my shame, that I kinda rushed it and didn't bother to make a full backup.
The tablet had a ad-malware preinstalled and in my attempt to delete it... well I deleted as it seems some needed apks from /system/apps.
Now the tablet does start, but doesn't react on most input ("... com.android.keyguard has stopped.").
Normal recovery and flashing with SP_Flash_Tool didn't help, as I only have saved boot.img and recovery.img.
To make things worse it doesn't connect over adb (and logically Mtk_Droid_Tool for that matter) anymore, so I'm unable to access the whole filesystem (internal storage shows in win explorer), so even if I had the needed files I couldn't get them on the device.
With my still limited knowledge I think I need a stock rom to save my device. Or a custom rom for this device (I have one from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/rom-cm-14-1-mtk6582-7-1-1-t3603462, but well no stock to port it...)
Now after telling my sob story, heres the data I have:
(from a screenshot of Mtk_Droid_Tool taken when I rooted it)
Hardware: MT6582
Model: B960
Build number: B960_KT107H_20160828
Build date UTC: 20171012-041455
Android v: 6.0
Of course I would be very grateful if someone can help me with a stock rom, or hint me at a better solution
I, too, have the B960. I wanted to get rid of the infuriating AdChoice nonsense that keeps popping up. Now, I do not know how to pull the stock ROM from the device (yet), but I can provide you with this before I root it.
If you want to link me how to do that, I would be grateful
i have the same tablet and ive made a backup of the rom, i can send you if you want.

Hi,
I recently bought a cheap tablet over Wish.com and succesfully installed CWM and rooted it with Mtk_Droid_Tool and SP_Flash_Tool (plus Super SU zip)
