Hey quick question.

I am new to the world of PPC, I have used Nokias for the past few years. I bought the O2 XDA Zinc last weekend and have somehow managed to fudge up the OS. For some reason the contacts and calendar have disappeared and the phone boots maybe 1/4 attempts.
I am looking to upgrade to WM6 (or get my initial install back) and am wondering if anybody can point me in the right direction since there isn't a dedicated forum.

Welcome to the forum.
Fortunately you can't permanently "fudge up" the OS on these devices unless you start messing around with ROMs. All you have to do is check the manual for how to preform "hard reset" and you will be fine.
In fact, chances are that if you go to Settings->System you will find a "Clean reset" or similarly named icon. Just click it and follow the instructions.
I am fairly sure there is no WM 6 for your device. Windows Mobile is not a generic OS. You need a specific ROM image for your device so unless the manufacturer makes one or someone "cooks" one you are out of luck (not that WM 6 is that great).
Trouble is though this site is called "XDA-developers" it mainly deals with devices made by HTC (used to be all of XDA brand) and unfortunately the Zinc is not.

Thanks a lot for the quick response. Unfortunately there is no information about doing a hard reset in the manual. By playing around I held the reset button and power button and it brought me to a "clear" screen which I ran. It defaulted back to normal but my contacts and calendar were still no where to be found.

Do you mean the contacts and calendar apps have disappeared or just the buttons on the screen?
Or do you mean you have lost your actual contacts details and your appointment details?

I mean the actual applications are gone. The icons are still in the start menu but nothing happens when you click on them. The today screen will crash if I use the calendar or tasks plugin.

Same here no luck of getting an upgrade rom for zinc since mine is a prototype, and the new rom is restricted to download.
any body can help?

XDA Trion and Co-Pilot

I've just got our company a couple of XDA Trions, complete with CoPilot Live 6.
Now for some reason, one of them placed a link to Co-Pilot on the Today screen, but another one (which happens to be mine) won't. I've reset the device a couple of times, reinstalled Co-Pilot, but nothing seems to work.
Anyone got any ideas on how to put it on there please?

I haven't used Co-Pilot before, but have you tried the Today Items checklist in the settings? Not sure if it gives you an option in there, but most programs that have a today plugin are in there to tick whether you want them on or off

Just looked at it, and there isn't nothing showing up under the Today settings. But the one that is working, does have the setting under Today

Would it be possible for me to copy the plugin from the one that is working onto mine? I'm guessing it's just stored as a file somewhere

Hello, i bought the Cruise yesterday, it`s the UK version with the following rom: 1.25.405.1 WWE, 12/11/07, protocol version 25.65.30.04H.
i have a problem with the today screen, i don`t see the tabs and the weather, neither the big clock as usually one has on the htc today screen. i tried to change it from setting my "today" but nothing change i still have this quite empty screen . Could you please help me, this is my first smartphone and i am a newbie.

Go to Settings/Today/Items and see HTC home is checked or not...

I had the same problem right out of the box. I did a hard reset and that fixed it.

i also solved the problem. I just did an hard reset and now it works properly. Thanks anyway for your help

No letters anymore, only digits...

Hello people,
I suppose this problem isn't directly concerning only my Topaz, that's why i place this threat in general forum.
Since about two hours my device hasn't got any letters! Sent a mms to a friend, everything was fine. Later tried to write my girl, but only numbers/digits show up in the editor... I don't know what I have done... Maybe some more informations would be helpful. I flashed a different ROM to my device, but I think that isn't the problem. I haven't had used Tweak HD before, then the problem showed up and everything a found was because of this program. So I installed it, activated T9, then disabled it, but the problem is still there. I get this problem, when I use the normal phone keypad.
Could anybody help please?

Can be closed!!! After the fourth or fifth softreset, it works again. Didn't change anything. But for whatever reason it works now.

[Q] Proper reset

Hi all, so this has taken some fiddling and I still am not even close to it doing what I want.
UK model, L09. I've got it onto build MT7-L09V100R001C00B127.
Trying and failing (and now falling asleep on my keyboard) to get it back to the 'standard' UK box-fresh state, but it's not playing ball.
Questions -
1) is this the latest one?
2) When I try and do a factory reset, it seems to reset but I see a 'cust fail' and then it 'fails'. It comes up with the welcoming dialogue etc with a reboot, BUT all the apps are just on the pages - it's not as if it's brand new out of the box (with widgets then only a few apps on first page, etc.). It also doesnt have the 'default' theme applied, and I thought the default keyboard should be set to the white one, not the google one. Please help?
3) Apps- after flashing the above firmware (which I think(?) is right, it seems to have a few apps wrong compared to unboxings that I've seen on youtube. I thought it was meant to come with polaris office, for example.
4) It seems to have a very odd app called 'Payment UICC' which I'm sure shouldnt be there....
Please please help, I've been desperately battling with this for a day solidly now and don't seem to have managed to do much otehr than make it go Chineze and then have to restart everything again (my mistake, flashed the wrong firmware in a moment of tiredness).
If you can help, and are ever visiting London UK, I'll buy you a few pints!
