Unrevoked Root & Recovery Mode System Mount - EVO 4G Android Development

Unrevoked Root works great, I honestly thing it's the best actual usermode root available atm.
I'm looking to be able to mount the filesystem like the rooted roms allowed in recovery mode, can this be done?
Basically, I'm looking for a solution to make changes to NAND without using an entire custom ROM.

please search, and post in a relevant thread. i don't mean to sound like a jerk, but there are already several threads about these topics, and the more threads that end up getting made, the more cluttered this place is going to be.
and, if you are looking for help, post in q&a, not in the dev section

How is it better than toast's method that you don't have to re-do on every boot?

You can use the new OTA update, which fixes the SD card bug, with it.
You can still downgrade to the stock image and use toast's image, if need be.

There are many threads, but none about this specifically.
I doubt this is even available and felt the need to make a thread dedicated to something of such importance.

Unrevoked is actually quite well refined, and does not require being reapplied after each boot. I am much more satisfied considering I can do this after the update AND all of Market is available with 4G access.
Both rooted ROMs have one loss, either Market or 4G...this does not.

I stand corrected...there was a thread that was buried over all the ruckus.

I had a problem with the Camera. open task manager, kill any app you think might be using the camera (qik, camera, anything).
Open the camera again. it should work and i never had this problem again.

The latest software prevents unrevoked from running, you have to flash a ROM to get root.

there is an update.zip that will do what you need.
So what your saying is you just install the new update.zip as we did during the first install?. As stated that means we don't have to uninstall or go back to the stock rom. It pays for us noobs to be certain.

OK, now I'm confused. I almost did it. I'm scared now....
Designgears, you have done this to your phone and it works now. Flashman did you figure out what you did wrong?
The only thing I can figure is I updated through ROM manager. I imagine people that are using the update.zip should have no issues from what I read in the Superuser thread. I am not going to try again for a couple days to be sure, but people are able to make it work without issue. I figured with it showing up in ROM manager it would have been safe to load that way, as I upgraded to 2.2.2 when I first got ROM Manager.

Is this just the updated Su 2.3.1 ??
I see that you also have the http://www.multiupload.com/BCLH94FNVD file on the other thread that seems to include the new root file. Or does this update.zip file include everything?
Excuse me for being extra carefull. Better safe than sorry.

If I may.. Was there a changelog? I mean.. 2.2 grants needed privilege. Not trying to be sarcastic at all but I see so many people worried about this or that it left me wondering what was new.
I tried it and it said the update was aborted. Didn't give a reason. I took out the original update file and replaced it with the new one. Should I have left both files in?
Maybe I'm not asking the question right. The link to the update file you added to this thread. Is it for the EliteSuperRooter or is it just for the 2.3.1 root OR would we still have to add the file on the other thread that seems to include the new root file. Or does this update.zip file include everything?

In the General Android Dev forum there is a changelog and he changed a ton of stuff.
edit - It was in Apps and Games my bad.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=682828
for lazy ppl this is what different between 2.2 and 2.3.1
(New for 2.3)
- New layout of main app
- Full logging
- New request layout
- Fixed boot/widget bug
- Date/time format options
- Better notification system
- New icon
- Better allow system
- A whole mess of code cleanup
- Rearranged drawables so that only one apk needs to be built for any firmware
(New for 2.3.1)
- Big bugfixes
- Better support for landscape mode
- better support for ldpi devices
The question is, what does this offer that my current superuser doesn't?

[GUIDE] How to PermaRoot your Desire HD

I have just complied this Step-by-Step guide on how to root your Desire HD.
I by no means created the root, I simply used my own and others knowledge to put this guide together to help everyone.
Hopefully this is more of a beginners guide so we can ease new Android users into a bit of coding rather than relying on Apps to do the work

There was a lot of people asking how to do it since they couldn't figure it out from adwinp's post and any advice was getting lost in the thread.
I just put my own work into a new thread so it was easy for people to find
And this method avoids terminal or adb so is a bit more beginner friendly I was going to wait for the visionary update tomorrow but now thanks to evostance's guide I have permaroot on the day it was found/exploited/invented.

I don't know if VISIONary will just be able to root one Kernel Version, or if it will be able to modify the wpx.ko file depending on your Kernel Version.

Are we supposed to have run VISIONary before we run the scripts? The guide PDF doesn't say to run it until after, but the original forum topic says run it before... because I'm getting that blue screen that does nothing.
Edit: Okay I got it, maybe prefix the part about running the Gscrips with "Open VISIONary, tick "Run on Boot" and then click "Root Now!" before you continue to running the GScript actions.
You need sudo access before running GScripts.

Factory Restore

i want to root my phone but Sprint seems to have patch the root exploit, so i am thinking of doing a factory restore.
does anyone know what software version it will resort back to, currently i am on 2.3.4.
You will still be on 2.3.4 you need to search for the method then reds until your head hurts

This root method works wonders nothing is more better then to learn to manually root your device. Of course you can use the tool provided in the, the development forums, but I personally enjoy learning to do things without the use of developed tools.
If you need help feel free to ask we are here to help ^_^
Good luck don't turn your device into a brick READ READ AND READ FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS EXACTLY HOW THEY ARE YOU WILL BE A OK.

Use the manual method by Indirect if you want to have more control over what you're doing (also does not void your warranty) and definitely read read read
I would recommend at least going through the whole "user" section of xda-university before even touching your phone, it has tons of useful information

Best advice I can give you is to Read, Read, Read, and Read some more. Use the search function a ton, as it will help you to get used to resolving issues in the future. Because sometimes even when people are willing to help, answers are hard to come by. Also there are a few links you can check out in my Signature. Na i was using you shift rootility tutorial, but i screwed up and put the wrong PG06IMG.zip in the $path. there was 2 versions a 12.7MB and a 227MB one. i didn't realize that i needed to do the 227MB to downgrade first then after it's downgraded then use the 12.7MB one.
so i stopped mid way through and tried to boot normally, which sent me into a boot loop. doing a factory restore fixed the boot-loop and now i am starting over again.

You do not need this kernel mod after you have S-off'ed and perm rooted.
I have personally tested this. All system changes survived hard reboot (via adb reboot)

Marshall London root?

Hey guys,
I really don't know where to ask this since this phone doesn't have a forum or anything - at least that I know of. If there is one I am glad if you can point me to it.
So, is there any way to root this device? I only bought it as a second phone for listening to music but I'd really like to root it, so, do you know anyhting?

This was essential for me. I have given up on purchasing this device. Based on monitoring the support page, it also seems the manufacturer is slow to develop updates. If I were you, I'd try to flash root binaries via the recovery menu. Keep in mind, that I don't have that phone. If that fails, you can wait for the custom recovery and you can try to install binaries from there. Keep me updated.

Yes it is extremely slow development on this phone, since i did get it at the release there have been like 4-5 updates and none major update just some bugfixes that actually made the phone worse.
The support at MP is good fast answers but their not that good at helping you, they basically just copy&paste a standard Q&A.
My phone does stop vibrate occasionally, notification led is only functional sometimes, random reboots, Led flash is unusable on taking photos it does blend the lens so photos get almost black and some minor bugs, did contact support about this and they was not able to do anything due to that this is a gift from them. I had to pay for a shipping and repair myself.
I was hoping for root and custom rom, but as it seems that it will never happen i have an nice looking paperweight.

A custom rom might be a stretch due to the unique nature of the device, closed source code for the DAC, among other things. I have had trouble finding source code for this device, using code from similar devices tend to run into kernel panic issues.
I am working on a way to have flashable system images and a custom recovery on this device... and also a way to return the device completely to stock. The good news is that once you have binaries, you can use Fastboot to restore partitions. I have been able to re-flash experimental recovery builds with the original without any issue. No need to unlock or root.
And yes, root is possible. Kingoroot worked for me and I was able to successfully remove Kingo for SuperSU using the built in root swap tool in SuperSU.
I plan on starting a new thread for everything that I have for the Marshall London when I have everything working. Root, recovery, flashable ZIPs and stock images.
It may not be a device that is widely used but it definitely has a niche. I use it exclusively as an MP3 player because of its amazing sound. I also will be using it as a travel phone when I go to Europe. Shame the phone didn't find a larger market or even make it to North America because it's a very unique phone.

You now have root and a working recovery for the Marshall London.
