Write Protection Removed! (YAY) - Verizon HTC One (M8)

With The Release of Firewater S-Off now the fun begins
http://firewater-soff.com/
The Kernel Module @flar2 created does work with our now S-Off M8
His OP
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701816
With this module you can now have full RW on the /system while Booted into the OS

Thank you for the heads up man!!

Thanks! Worked great! Was able to uninstall all the bloat without having it come back on reboot.

I was able to remove the bloat without doing this. I have s-off and am rooted. Doesn't having s-off grant us this anyway?

I didn't try it after S-OFF, but after doing this mod. Did the bloat return on reboot? If not, looks like this may not be necessary.

Bloat has not come back after several reboots.

Oh snap! Ok sending donation as soon as I get on my laptop!
Has anyone yet provided a step by step video by chance? I know nothing about adb stuff as I've never had to use it so reading the firewater instructions I'm a little lost :/. Haven't tried installing weak sauce root either yet, is this easy or a video? I believe i need weak sauce root installed first? Then S-Off, then I install twrp? How would I install twrp and after I do install does it then install full root then can delete weak sauce?
I'm sorry I know this literally was release an hour ago but just hate to brick my device out of ignorance and not knowing. Appreciate any help for someone like me that doesn't use adb or sure of the methods and steps here.

I believe a few people are working on videos as we speak. Should be done soon.

This community and it's members/devs are freaking amazing! Thank you!

cant get it to work how did some one do it

has anyone tried to flash the kernel yet?

It looks like we have R/W access without doing this after firewater. I've added/removed stuff from /system without any issues(apps, priv-apps, stuff from the media resources, etc)
edit: I've done probably 20 reboots with no issues along the way of modding stuff and still everything is fine.

really did it stick after boot?

nevermind you answer is in your edit

You do not need this kernel mod after you have S-off'ed and perm rooted.
I have personally tested this. All system changes survived hard reboot (via adb reboot)

[Q] Verizon m8 java card s-off and root question

I just purchased a Java card s-off from the HTC modzone, and I'm wondering if the weaksauce root that is out will work as a permanent root once my phone is s-off? Or will I have a s-off device and have to wait for a new permanent root method?
Thanks

+1 Can we use the recovery for the other variants or we just now have S-Off? Thanks
I guess this should be moved to Q&A
You might be able to use a recovery from the sprint variant, but I'm not sure.
What about root? Is it permanent?

If you do it from recovery, yes.
Once you are s-off, you don't need weaksauce anymore.
Just flash su through a custom recovery like you would normally do when rooting an android device.

Not that there's a custom recovery for the VZW M8 yet...
What if I don't want custom recovery? I come from a long line of Motorola devices, I'm use to just rooting and I'm done. I don't need/want custom roms, just want full root.

this thread should answer most of your general java card questions. ill bring it over here as well in the next couple days since sonic has a new card
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2441299
Is HTC ModSource Sonic? I would assume so given the CO address. Might have to send my phone to him
My question is, how much support for custom ROM's and kernel's are going to be around with such a limited number of people being able to do this?
support thread is live
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2704126
i cant speak for sonic, but in the past he has been willing to do a couple dev phones for free. i wouldnt worry too much about support... either a software exploit will be found,or more folks will get tired of waiting and use his service. either way, there will eventually be support.
i have used his service as well. there is no disasembly of your shiny new phone, and he is trustworthy individual. as long as you also pay for enuff insurance youve nothing to lose but a few days away from your new baby
I already miss mine as I sent it out today... lol

how to unlock bootloader and s off after u took sense 5 update(5.18)

Is there any risk in running the weaksauce app in between reboots while the rum runner process is working? Could anything potentially go seriously wrong with the phone if weaksauce returns the "root failure" message while rum runner is trying to work?

It worked! Thank you! FYI, I was completely stock/unrooted on the at&t One X and had taken the latest (5.18) OTA.
The only thing I would add is that I had to run weaksauce over and over on each reboot until it gave me the "root activated" message.
Wow glad to know someone else did this too !

Yes , i did the exact same thing and it works . I used weaksauce to get temporary access to root while i was running rumrunner , and it finally gave in . Good stuff by the developers. Sending my contribution and thanks to them soon !
Just breaking it down in case a newbie (like i was 3 days ago) can make his/her life simpler.
1. rumrunner works in most cases for HTC ONE X (AT&T , USA) version for getting S-OFF. But it needs root access. One way to try and do this is to get WeakSauce installed on your phone (i also installed SuperSU from the app store) .
2. Now once u start executing rumrunner , make sure you use weaksauce to get super user access . Rumrunner will reboot ur machine ,and sometimes weaksauce did not work on my phone after a reboot , and in such cases i manually ran the app on the phone (though rum-runner says no). This lets rumrunner continue and get your phone to S-OFF successfully.
3. Once rumrunner reports that its done (pouring..followed by something that suggests its done, cant remember what , right now), you will get S-OFF on your device ( reboot into bootloader by pressing vol down +power) and check the status.
4. After this you can do anything you want ! like install cyanogenmod (cyanogenmod evita , i run cm11 snapshot 10)
And these developers are awesome ! Also @grigoriisii , sorry if this looks like im hijacking the thread , just trying to give a bit more details for the lazy one/newbie checking the last post

[Q] Total Noob, trying to brick my phone

Hi everyone,
I am new to android mods. I just bought a used vzw M8 running 4.4.4. I unlocked and got S off using sunshine. Rooted with WS2, and verified. Installed SuperSU. Stock otherwise. I have installed the SDK on my laptop. I can't get any devices to show up when i use the adb devices command.
I am trying to figure out how to disable the OTA for Lollipop. Does anyone know if the OTA will re-lock or bypass my root? Can you help me disable if it is an issue?
Eventually, I'd like to go to a different (cleaned up) ROM and 5.X, but i need to make sure the evil red monster doesn't mess up my work first. I have spent several hours searching the forums, and have made some progress. If there are any detailed posts to point me to, I'd appreciate any and all help.
Thank you,
Dustin
Did you install the HTC drivers? If not install HTC sync manager (I think that's the name) and it'll install them for u then u can uninstall HTC sync manager and you should get adb to recognize your device. Ota will not relock your device. It will take off root tho. But you can just flash custom recovery and flash su in there. I'd suggest since your s off to flash dottats s off 5.0.1 ruu over in the development section once you get adb working. It is also pre rooted and will get up and running on lollipop.

Check this thread out for blocking the OTA http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-htc-one-m8/help/block-ota-updates-t2871520 It is also my understanding that just being rooted will cause the OTA to fail. I may be wrong about that, however.

I did install the drivers exactly the way you suggest. My computer recognizes the phone as a drive. I just can't get it to show up on ADB. Thank you for the suggestion on the ruu. I may just let the OTA come though today to get rid of the message. Then, run the ruu when I figure this out more.

Somethings just can't be explained. Check this out. I have to use my 6 year old laptop with AMD Phenom II x4 because my desktop Intel i5-3570 cant send sh1t to my phone. It's always something. Thank you, dottat. I have installed and re-installed the driver. My computer can see my phone, and pull it up as a disk drive. I can open the SDK and ADB. In the CMD window, when I type "adb devices", it starts the daemon successfully. Then, under list of devices, it is blank. Any ideas? Could i have downloaded the wrong SDK/ADB package and need to get yours? I'm really green with this software and Linux in general, so I may be missing something. I'm hoping I can get comms worked out and load your RUU file soon. Can I go ahead and take the 5.0 OTA without worry? I have root, s off, and BL unlock. SuperSU fails to update.

On 4.4.3 and over sunshine will s off and unlock bootloader together, but its a 50/50 chance. I personally used firewater and weaksauce but I was on 4.4.2 when I did it but VZW closed that exploit in 4.4.3.

Now I think I do have a clear idea o the issue: I followed all the steps this time
however, SuperSu would pop out at the end and when I check: root access denied: I think the previous root that I did not perform right, is the issue somehow. Is there any way to get rid of it or go around it?

Hi,
I am following this link to root my new note 5 using the following link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo.../t-mobile-sm-n920t-root-methods-info-t3183805
Everything is fine until from step 5, I realized that the kernel, and the rest of the files, when trying to browse them from the phone on recovery mode and flash them, the extension will not even be read by my phone. Therefore I dont know what to do. the post said the extension is supposed to be zip but there are in in only two img files, which when connected to the phone, won't even be recognize. so how can i flash the phone?
please help,
Yann

Did you flash a kernel? If you did then download super su from the market and try TiBu again. The error means that TiBu was not given super user permissions. So either you dont have a rooted kernel or you dont have SU installed to grant the requested permissions. OR you have both and just didnt grant SU permissions when asked.

I did flash a kernel , and any other softwares provided under this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo...easy-steps-n920t-aoge-odin-twrp-root-t3187422
Next, what do you mean by Supersu from the market? What is TiBu also?
Thanks for your contribution.

The market has a super user app for managing SU permission requests, you may already have it. It will look like a pound sign "#" and say super user or SU. If you dont have that app you need to download it. The developer is named chainfire.
TiBu is short hand for Titanium Backup
Waouh I am learning a lot from you guys. O, I will be looking for that SU with the # sign. It is definitely not what I currently have.
by this sentence: "OR you have both and just didnt grant SU permissions when asked." : do you mean that the phone may have already been rooted? without SU telling me? because honestly, I dont know whats wrong.

If you already have SU then you would have been prompted to grant super user permission by a pop up dialog. If you mistakenly select deny or wasn't paying attention (it has a time out that will select deny but only temporarily if no user input is selected). If you mistaken selected deny then you would need to open the SU app and remove the TiBu entry, restart TiBu and select allow.. That is only IF you have the Super User (SU) app installed..
OMG! YOU ARE GENIUS! THAT WAS THE ISSUE.no it says that I do have root access! finally. Hyper shell (FAST): YES. However Fast/Auto App Install: No. THANK YOU THANK YOU

Hi, I just realized that I am not done yet. More new issue with the phone. It looks I did not do something right or one of the softwares is not correct: after we rooted the phone yesterday, IO had it unlocked with the help of stilfilz. However, ever since , when I make phone calls, the phone would go off by itself after a while.
Have you heard of previous similar mistakes? If yes, any ideas about how to fix it?

You need a different kernel. You should give me the model number of your phone and I will point you to the most recent arter kernel. I am assuming you are rooted with noble which was known for kernel panic during phone calls which caused reboots

Does This CF-Auto Root Trully Works ON G930T

guys i want to root my phone on the fast and very simple way possible.
found this root method on https://autoroot.chainfire.eu
this is the link for the root method https://download.chainfire.eu/982/C...Auto-Root-heroqltetmo-heroqltetmo-smg930t.zip
i did not tryed it my self yet. but if theres a user that rooted their phone that way, let me know.
bump
I don't think this will work unless we get our Bootloader unlocked (which hasn't been done yet as far as i know)
UNLOCK BOOTLOADERS
If you have locked bootloaders, flashing one of these will probably brick your device - with the exception of Nexus devices, which will usually automatically "OEM unlock" and wipe your data !
this is kind of lame.... why chainfire release a auto root if the thevice have bootloader locked down? and onlockable?
Confused myself
I want to say root is possible, there are tons of sites with instructions: https://www.google.com/search?q=SM-...i57j0j69i60.9343j0j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
Of course, XDA doesn't seem to have a specific G930T thread for rooting with instructions, then see threads like this today. I was all set to give it a try, but unsure if should proceed...
Did find this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s7/help/sm-g930t-root-doesnt-void-warranty-t3415936
EDIT: so the one linked in original comment was the bleeding edge root process and seems like had a really high failure rate. Most current I've seen is: http://lifeatsamsung.com/root-t-mobile-galaxy-s7-sm-g930t-2/
Seems a little more clean cut and easy. I'll edit again if I find a newer solution or at least commentary on success/fail
In comments OP posts:
Yes I am planning to make a video tutorial.
Also I used the method provided here (this is Max Lee's website)

So the solution and all the fixes, etc is right here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...-to-notes-root-install-xposed-unroot-t3411039
Worked for me, no problem. Even installed the debloated, deox'd ROM. Unfortunately after root you will need to follow rest of guide, otherwise you will see some lag issues.
On the other side of it, phone is great, fast, if not faster than before, and got root. Let me know if you would like some screenshots proving a TMO phone is rootable or if can answer any questions

I would like to see some screens that show it is rooted, yes. I am about to purchase tomorrow and would like everything in place before I do.
Thanks

There is root but the bootloaders on USA snapdragon is still locked so it's not as smooth and simple as flashing cf root

So what does this mean in layman's terms. Can I root the device safely with full functionality or not? Are there plans to get a rooted bootloader? And what does this mean because I thought the TMO version had a qualcom processor...

This means that the only rooting method right now isn't as stable as it would be if it had a unlocked bootloader the root right now will cause some issues but they can easily be fix from some of the steps after rooting guides that are in the xda forums and yes it using a Qualcomm processor Witch is pretty much the snapdragon and there hasn't been any luck this past year of getting the bootloader unlocked for full and smooth rooting I'm really ****ty at explaining sorry if your still lost
The Chainfire method he released does NOT work. I'm not sure why he released it...maybe he knows of a future bootloader unlock that we don't know about.
@troby86 I see you have yours rooted. How did you accomplish this?

I used the engineering boot image to do it. There is a post in this forum that has a link to a guide to do it.
Thank you. Lots to look through.

@troby86 OK, bought my S7 today. Trying Max Lee's root method. I can't get SU to inject using adb command. I have retried numerous times to include reflashing and system reset. Any thoughts?

@KillerClaw321 I am at the machine now and have tried running CMD in admin mode. Still no joy. What are the beat adb drivers to use for AMD machine? Maybe the drivers are the problem? What else can I try? I am on PK1 as the phone is new from the store yesterday and a fresh shipment to them the day before.
I also see a DM verification verify failed dialogue at the bottom when i try the factory reset. No DRK
