Any nice iphone clone? - General Questions and Answers

Beside iphonetoday and iphoneui, is there any that includes nice effects which also uses the whole screen?
iphonetoday is great, but unfortunately it doesn't have a topbar or lockscreen.
iphoneui uses the whole screen, but it's in a very early stage...
so, is there anything between these two?

What phone are you using? What mods have you done to this point?

Have you considered installing CoOkie's home tab mod... and the CHT Editor? It's very good. You might also consider installing an HSPL and flashing a custom rom. Many of them have either CoOkie's home tab or now MaxSense ui built in. The ones I have been watching most closely are Energy Rom and Elegancia. I'm not too familiar with other iPhone clones... you can probably get one for SPB mobile shell but that's a paid app.
How long have you had the phone? Give it a little time to get used to it. Also, def at the very least install CoOkie's home tab... huge improvement over stock and no rom upgrade required.
Do you have a US HD2? You have to be very specific.

Moved as not software release.

I've read a bit about flashing rom but i don't dare, considering the fact that i still have warranty.
So i think i'll only use cabs. i've found one cab (TF_3D.cab) which is 33mb big. Should i install this?

Yeah, I understand your concern. I had the same concerns actually but you can restore the phone back to a stock rom. It seems that the real thing you have to be worried about is that you don't flash a non-us radio onto a us phone. Flashing onto a WM phone is way easy. Probably as easy as jailbreaking an iPhone and easier than rooting an Android device.
I'm not too familiar with TF_3D, is it a Sense replacement, or do you need SPB Mobile Shell or Throttle Launcher to run it?
You really should try the CoOkie mod. haha. Give it a shot.

But wait... there's more!
Oh, btw. CoOkie has announced that the latest and greatest version of his home tab mod, version 1.8, will be released today at 18:00 cest (around 12:00 EST in the US)!

Just crappy ugly "NEW" comm manager

Hi there,
can anyone tell me how to get rid of this UGLY "NEW" comm manager style? Anyone like it? Iam really scared of the graphics which can some people cook into their roms and new version of OCTAVOI has this version of commman too, so its the hell on earth for me! like someone steal my candy!
Is there a ROM based on new build which has not USELESS things cooked into? I just want new build with original Microsoft/HTC/Touch/Cube graphics!
I dont know if this comm man is originally styled by HTC if its true so its first styled component/application i dont really like and it sucks my blood...

i second that but then that would only mean that we would have to help the chefs on this site. they offer us cooked roms with many customization. im sure they dont have time for graphics so lets get sometalented members to help out make the future roms look sexy. perhaps we can have a graphics area for all the phones since there many that would be comon.
Look for the 9 button or 10 Button Kaiser CommManager. Thats what I use in XM6 and is what you are asking for. I agree, I don't care for the other commManager's looks (although, the "Nuclear Powerplant one" you point out isn't too bad but I still like the other).
I'll look to see if I have a cab, but I have the packages (and they've been posted here. I know theloon's kitchen for the 318 rom has the Kaiser CommManager package and that can be used on any rom you cook (its not 318 specific).
I am curious why you want it on a "newer" rom build? Personally I've found the 318 rom (even though its "older") much more stable than the "newer" (higher number) builds which are all ports from other devices. I'd be curious what is in the newer stuff that you think is better (not a trick question, just wondering what I'm missing or what I can look to improve in a 318 build).
Agree! I'm using already two weeks mfrazzz's (thank you!) XM6 R3 (OS 5.2.318 Build 15342.4.0.01). No issues! Everything looks good and works great and fast! Even screen calibration bug is gone. C'mon flash this ROM and be happy, there's actually nothing better in versions with higher numbers!

The thing that i really hate about it is this red/greed circles. It is absolutelly ugly in my eyes and this have not to be in such pretty graphics. All is in one style done with perfection and this is what breaking all. Also the ON/OFF text isnt great there.

Its nothing special with roms i think. Its something in me. Specific HIGHER NUMBER SYNDROM ;-) ... but you all are true. I missed reading what are the advantages and just flash, but what was the best rom ever? For me it was faria's AIRAF Stable, great, but missing OneNote (i though that PS's Office2007 can install it to WM device). So the answer is: The bug in me

GUYS THANKS FOR REPLIES
I actually quite like the look (the so called Nuclear Power Plant) and was wondering if anyone had a cab for it. To me it is simple and clean. I'd love to have it over the one I have now which is the 10 button.

All ROMS the same

I cant help but notice, after trying 4 or 5 different ROMs that are on here, they are all basically the same, just with a few different programs missing from some and included in others. Has no one made a ROM that is different or interesting - i'm sick of looking at the HTC Black theme with the HTC Home screen

So change the home screen and change the theme. Better yet, you could cook a rom yourself if you're unhappy instead of starting another pointless thread.

Then change your theme and home screen, my friend!
Well while the roms may seem similar, some are much faster and more stable than others.
As for your other point, the beauty of windows mobile is that you can do whatever you please with it by simply installing cabs. Don't like HTC Home? Remove it and replace it. Sick of the HTC black theme? Change it. By simply searching on google, you can find thousands of windows mobile themes.
If you want your phone to be really unique and interesting, you can't count on different roms. The rom chefs make a good base rom for you, it is up to you to personalize it.
You could always try any of these things to help sproose your phone up.

If all roms are the same, why have you bothered flashing new ones? Obviously your original shipped rom is as good as those offered here because "... they are all basically the same" - so why not flash back to the original and stop creating pointless threads.
The reason you (and we) flash new roms is because of the subtle differences - some faster, some more stable, some better looking without tweaks, maybe also because only ONE component is better etc etc.
As for no one making a rom that is "different or interesting" - I find them all different AND interesting. I'm also trying to learn how to cook my own by extracting or adding the components that I like best - if I come up with Rom Utopia I'll post it here - but I won't find this Utopia until I try all the other roms and extract the best bits.
In summary - flash if you want to or don't bother if they are all the same anyway, but stop posting useless junk, and stop criticising the work of others until you are in a position to be their peer.
This thread so doesn't belong in this forum.

Paulmezza, you have the beginnings of a valid point here, but you haven't finished it. What would you like to see in a ROM that would make it stand out from the crowd? There are some great programs and customisations out there, why not make a list of what you'd like to see in a ROM, and then post it. As other people have pointed out, we're only limited by the core Windows Mobile OS itself, everything else on the phone can be customized and tweaked. Post what you'd like to see and you might inspire a budding chef to build some of your ideas in - or you can take the plunge and cook it yourself!
There are some many applications out there that you can use to mod your phone to make it special. Go check out handango.com or somewhere else to find what your looking for. or Google UI's for your phone. The only things making your device generic is you.

i agree with u it would be good if cooks did have major changes between their roms, i wanted to try and cook my own a t-mobile themed wm 6.1 rom but too complicated and i have no time cose busy with school since its the final year. No need to attack this guy for this its just his and my opinion, some days im sitting here looking at the detail of the roms see if there is anything to attract me to a certain rom end up basicly throwing a dart of a board with their names pinned onto it.
Mods please close this pointless thread......

What he stated in his post was that quote:
"Has no one made a ROM that is different or interesting - i'm sick of looking at the HTC Black theme with the HTC Home screen"
So the problem for him is the fact that they all look the same, not that there are subtle differences between them. So like others have already said, if someone does not like the look of a Rom, go ahead & change the appearance! Take the time to learn how to use RLToday, Ultimate Launcher, WAD and the whole slew of other Today Plugins and Customization apps that are out there. Its not really the chefs job to supply the eye candy, thats where individual taste comes in. Their main goal is cooking up a fast stable rom.
Part of the problem lies with the end user...
Before selecting a Rom do you really know what you want out of your device?
I for one decided that as Applications are bound to change and what I want to do with my device is equally varied I would be better off the what's known as a "Clean" Rom.
So when I cook Roms that is what I make. I remove everything except the Core OS. then I add in registry settings that I prefer such as cache settings, at&t keyboard layout, etc.
Then I take all of the extracted applicatons and build cab files for them (unless I find someone else has already done a good job of this) and I collect those cab files into one place to share with everyone.
So with my XDA Live Rom what I've ended-up with is exactly the applications I choose to use with the max amount of free storage space. The effect is that I don't put any cache files/e-mail attachements on my storage card so I can safely use it when connected to my PC(s) via Card Export II.
Like anything in this universe, cooked roms are only what you make of them...

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU PAULMEZZA. This is BS and I'm sick of it too.
Now please excuse me as I watch 700 channels of HD TV with my mind scanning remote control and automatic potatoe chip feeder...
a lot of cooks want to accomodate for the majority out there. Some cooks made a couple themes for theres and they put in a lot of hard work changing every bit of icon on the rom. If you are looking for something totally different, try some third party software to change up your desktop. There is this you can look at.

i found so much software (and dont even have a ppc yet) to get the best

to get the latest and the best
HTC takes so much of time releasing the official updates
so if you want the latest you have to depend on custom ROMs
and you can even get stuff which is not meant for your phone
like touch flo,manila interface etc

manila is just like a "codename" for touchflo!?
anyway... so if there is a bug or something like that and htc takes month
to release updates, the xda-devs come and create their own roms.. or if
someone would find out that the hd actually has everything hardware-
related whats needed for tv-out, he could make a rom that supports that?
and a rom is always specific to one model of a device?!? you cant use a

Well for example by removing things from a rom you don't use, you can make your phone faster or have more memory.
Sometimes program such as manilla run better or faster when they are built into a rom.
Flashing a new rom means that if you hard reset, you will reset back to the rom you flash.
You can put new program and or drivers stripped from another phone (omnia, opal, ect) (this would be useful beacuse they may be newer and more improved)
Its all a matter of opinion on what you want to do with your phone, if you need help with something you are trying to get you need to giver us an example so that we can give you an example of pluses and draw backs. (there are alot of things it does and its hard to just list them)
well, thank u very much. i think i get it now. somehow like n-lite for desktop windows. but still it would be nice to have a list in the wiki with all roms, their compatibilites and main features...

Hi,
All your questions & mod tips are here, but you'll need to do some catch-up reading: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=479
Enjoy your new PPC!
First read the Wiki and then just spend a couple of weeks with it and exploring the TP II forum. We don't know how you will use your phone or what you expect from it so we can't recommend anything at this point. Only you know what you want the phone to do.
So educate yourself, determine what you want and then everyone here will be happy to help you get there
No probs, will do.
Expect loads of questions from me in the next few weeks.
It arrived today! I wasn't expecting it until maybe Thursday but what an awesome phone! Been playing around with it for most of the day.
Sorry guy's, I have to ask, what would you recommend I install as upgrades? What do you think I should mod it with?
I'm also going to do a bit of reading, but would love your thoughts.
Cheers.
I would first recommend upgrading to WM 6.5. Then install TouchFLO as a UI and install the Microsoft Marketplace. There are tons of apps there to customize your phone how you like! Also check out the programs here on XDA. Just look around and you will find things that fit your interests. For example, you may come across a tool that enables your phone to schedule text messages (handy if you want your girl to think you're so sweet by sending her a good morning message first thing in the morning lol works like a charm). Also, Google Maps is an excellent GPS program, but Windows Live Local has better turn by turn directions. I would recommend one or both of those.
^Very good recommendations above...WM6.5 is a must then you can customize from there...
Excellent, cheers guys.
More stuff like this please.
Also, I'm going to be using the phone for business. Is there a software program to read email better than the standard email view on the phone?
What business apps would you recommed?
I've also been advised to flash it with the latest HTC radio and NRG Photon Rom? Someone also said to use SPB 3.5?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=553506
If you don´t like Manila 2.1 de select it and then you can install spb, personally I prefer touch flo than spb but that is matter of tastes.
Good luck,
Cheers for that.
Also, Is there another updated version of manilla and how do I tell which version I have? I've seen people have been talking about manila 2.5? What are your thoughts?

[POLL] Cookie Home Tab 2.0 or MaxSense 1.05?

I'm a CHT user and I love it. But just now, I've seen screenshots in another thread using MaxSense and they look awesome too. Going over it, it looks like it's only cooked in some ROMS for now. To tell you the truth, I haven't flashed to a custom ROM.
So, I'm opening this thread to ask your preference: CHT or MaxSense. What do you think are the strengths and weaknesses of one over the other? Is it worthwhile to take the plunge and flash a ROM with MaxSense?
I am attaching a link with MaxSense video: http://pocketnow.com/tweaks-hacks/video-maxsense-ui-has-arrived-and-its-awesome
Any feedback is appreciated.
Well i go for Cht.
For 1 simple reason.
I have flashed my omnia so many times i lost track
Since a got my first Htc Tp2 i first want it to check it out.
But very fast i got the HD2 and never flashed my Tp2.
With the HD2 i found out i had a powerfull phone in my hand.
It is fast just the way i like it, so i never flashed it.
And i think i will never flash it.
Once i start flashing my phone i will get lost in it for sure again.
Maxsense sure looks great but Cht is just amazing.
Maby if i give Maxsense a chance it will be to.
But Cht....................I really have to say its fantastic.
@ all developers ... RESPECT and thx for all you do for us
Its a hard job and takes a hell of a lot of time.

Thanks for the feedback!
Got a question though. After flashing to a custom ROM, you can still apply some mods to it, right?
Both
Try the both...I have. Then you'll see for yourself which one you'll like better.

I always played with mods.
The great thing about custom rom is its made for speed
and eyecandy.
All the crap ( thats wat every one thinks for them selfs wat crap is) has taking out of the rom.
When i had my omnia i got seperate cabs for all apps and mods.
So when i flashed i decided wat was going on my phone and wat not.
Thats the great thing about custom roms.
Its made for speed ,memory and eyecandy.
Short answer ..... yes i always did put new mods after custom rom to
Greetz.
Thanks again for that reply!
One thing I like to add about CHT is that it has an excellent support for bugs and problems. For this reason, kudos to Cookie and his team! The thread has really gotten humongous but one way or another, they reply to your concerns once you post in their thread and give you some feedback or advice.
Will this be an issue with MaxSense if ever you encounter some bugs/issues in it?
For now, I too vote for the CHT.
But, you gotta have in mind that MaxSense is only 2 weeks old, and that it will improve more for sure.
They are also completely different in what they do. One is a homescreen modifier will the other is a full on new UI. I have stuck to Max's work since MaxManila and have had MaxSense since it was released.

Yup, MaxSense just came out but I get the impression that widget-wise, it offers more than CHT. One thing that amazes me is the favorite contact widget that you can scroll. Moreover, their widgets seem to offer easier customizations.
But certainly, CHT is still developing and will likewise make more improvements and introduce more features.
CHT is available for everybody, MaxSense with WWE ROMs only (as of now).
Furthermore, CHT in the latest version has received a major upgrade in functions, they are both on par in my opinion.
When you love customizing your home tab, I think CHT is stronger - there are many more choices available.
Personally, as I prefer ROMs in my language, and as a Manila "modder" (love all my clocks...), I will stick to CHT definitely.

I'm not familiar with Max at all as I just got my HD2 recently and had an HTC Polaris before with SPB Mobile Shell.
But I think I get you on this, I think. Am I right in saying that CHT is a Sense mod while MaxSense is not? So, it boils down to if I'm willing to stick with Sense or not? If yes, then CHT, if not, MaxSense?

Which is the motorcycle, which is the Ferrari?
I'm going to say CHT as well. Personally, I'm using CHT 1.8 and Max Ultimate together, and I must say it's treating me well.
As far as I know CHT does not modify the tab structure of manila or really how you get from tab to tab. MaxSense no long has a tab structure so to say. You still have the pages but how you get to them is through widgets or a tabs selection page. There is no longer a slider in MaxSense.
I've been amazingly impressed with every iteration of CHT - it's amazing on every level and the mod of the year (imo).
MaxSense is an incredible adaption, and I enjoyed it for three days. However because of how new it is there were too many bugs for me to use as a business phone just yet, and I also had issues with the alarm clock not going off, which is not handy during a busy week at work!
But give MaxSense another few months and it has the potential to blow us away! I particularly liked: The scrolling wallpaper (which CHT 1.8 has also introduced), the widget potential, and the Android-y look.
My strategy is to love the pants off CHT for the time being, but try MaxSense every 6 weeks or so to see if/when it steals my heart
One question. If you flash to a ROM with MaxSense, can you still run CHT? I know that it's not the case the other way around, i.e. CHT is not compatible with MaxSense. Am I right?
no either way.
