anyone been successful installing the new google voice search program from the market on their dinc with froyo installed?
i can download it fine, but it keeps telling me that installation was unsuccessful.
i'm running one of the leaked froyo roms so i though it should work. perhaps not?
Hmm does unmounting the SD card then installing work?

Works fine for me. I have the the 8/1/10 leaked Froyo Rom installed on my Inc. See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=742242
Just like the post above says, you may need to unmount your sd card storage, in settings, to get it to install.

ahhhh... this must be my problem. okay. hopefully someone will post an apk that can be installed. i'm not on CM, but the ROM i'm running obviously must have the same issue.
I got it to install and can get most commands to work. however, emailing force closes on me.
It works perfect for me 7/27 leak
Dangit, running 2.15 radio, 8/1 Froyo, and the new voice search still FC's on me for mail, and now note to self.
You have the 8/1 rom installed right?
Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk
I also can't get it too install on the 8/1 leak
Works fine on my DI running Skyraider 2.2.
I got this to install just fine on the 8/1 leak.
However, it does not seem to interact with the applications I have installed. For example: "Listen to Deftones", "Set an alarm for 8am", etc. Each time I use these commands, it tells me that the applications required are not found.
I certainly do have plenty of music apps, as well as vanilla clock, etc...
Any ideas? Anyone get this to work properly on sense?
Installed it from Market- works fine- don't overhype it though... it's good.. but it still doesn't do what i want it to do 100%
I got it to install fine. I am using Aiccucs latest rom. I also deodexed the files before mounting system and then pushing them to my phone. I was getting errors when i tried to download and install through the market.

Can you post your deodexed files? I'm running the same rom.
Running good on adrynalyne's b2 franken rom installed it right from the market it is also working well with swype with the mic!

These files were ripped and deodexed from the droid 2. You must mount system before pushing to /system/app.
yea, mine installed just fine, and works great too!
I deleted official google maps 5.0 by RE, modified instead. Unfortunately that when I update the system to 2.3.2 by hand, there was error " /system/app/maps.apk ... E: ERROR /tmp/sideload/package.zip", installation was failed.
What shall I do?
Somebody told me that the reason is "rooted", nothing about my maps. But my phone has stock recovery & rom, only rooted by superboot......

Put back a copy of the original Google Maps apk for 2.3.1.
Or you can edit out the patch and instructions to patch in the update zip; then use CWM to flash the update so you don't get a signature failure on the flash..
In one of the 2.3.2 update threads on here there was a guy who had the same issue you are, only his was with the gmail apk. Search through those 2.3.2 update threads for more details if you need them.
Thanks, buddy!
Firstly I want to try your suggestion 1st, put back the google map official version. But I can't find it in google market!
Ok, I uninstalled the modified version map and put the official map back from market. But it seems the same problem.
1) install clockwork recovery
2)restore nandroid backup posted here

He'll also lose all his customizations and app data...unless he remembers to use Titanium to back it all up first.
What version does the app from the market show as? It needs to be 5.0.0.

If someone had the original apk, couldn't he just use that?
Just went into root explorer and found this so hopefully it helps. Let me know if I should pull it from some where else.

Yes, that should work if your phone is on the same Gingerbread build as his (assuming he's 2.3.1), if you've upgraded to 2.3.2 it will be a problem. What's happening is the patch is failing for some reason, I'm assuming it's because some check on the file shows it's not the right one to patch. I'd need to re-read the update script for sure. I posted it one of the two update threads if someone has time to go through it. (I don't right now.)

Question: What benefit do you get from your custom version of maps?

you would need to flash through clockwork cause you would need to toggle signature verification off. let me know if it works
I was having the same problem except with the market. I tried flashing it through clockwork but it didn't work. I then removed both parts of the script that checked vending.apk and it still didn't work. Next I just removed vending.apk from system/app then flashed the .zip in clockwork and it worked! The market still works fine and I still have root.
I took the ED2 ROM, deodexed and zip aligned it, then debloated it and added in a few useful things. This has most of the stuff removed that came with the Stock ROM, including TWLauncher, which has been replaced with AOSP Launcher. The ROM is rooted and also includes busybox for some useful linux tools. I've also included the Gingerbread keyboard from here as another keyboard alternative. This is not fully tested yet, so there may be a few issues. As people use it, I can add things people would like (such as mods as they become available), or remove stuff people don't want/use.

You can use the three button method "VolUp-VolDown + Power" Release power when the Samsung logo appears.
Or
Use Quick Boot from the Market, works for me.
Quick questions, can this be flashed over voodoo?
Do I have to do a wipe first?
Thanks bud.

Same question as above, I just installed voodoo's kernel. Do I just boot into CWM and then install as a .zip?
This can be flashed regardless of what kernel you're on, as long as you have CWM available. You can choose to wipe cache/dalvik if you want, but it isn't necessary from my experience.
If you were on stock and had an update for My Verizon, you may need to use Titanium Backup to finish removing it as I found out. The same likely goes for any other apps that were in stock but were updated from the Market.
I'll start removing more things then as I figure out what it is they do and if they are necessary for normal use of the phone. There are some apks left that I'm not sure what they do yet, so I'm leaving them in for now.
If you keep the media hub, you should probably revert it to ED1 so the can't play on 3G "feature" is gone.

Try deleting the original file in /system/app first, then moving over the themed one.
nevermind..i extracted the original dialertabactivity.apk from ICBINB into system/app and it fixed my dialer..but does anyone have any idea how to install the blue one from Extreme mods..or have a link to a working one? thx.

I believe it's only for Froyo. GDofWR420 also said the same. I've tried that initially, but that screwed up my whole calling. I couldn't receive calls after that, but I was able to call out.
Then again, I could narrow that down to either (1) my Froyo data restore or (2) replacing the dialer.
Let me know how that works for you.
I did that still could not requested the launched activity..i must be pointing it to the wrong short cut or something..this is really wierd it should work..any other ideas.
ok i did rw/r/r..on the original dialertabactivity.apk for icbinbkh2 and it is still not working...says the same thing..
the main issue is.i dont even see phone in my applications..when i tried to replace that dialertabactivity.apk..that messed it up to where ic ant even get the originial icbinb dialertabactivity.apk to work and atleast get a stock dialer for now..any ideas devs?

Froyo and GB mods aren't compatible. Even mods between different revisions of Froyo and GB aren't compatible. Find the original dialer file somewhere so you can get your dialer back. Extract it from ICBINB KH2 if you have to. Should be under /system/app in the zip file.

Unfortunately, that doesn't even help it. You have to reflash KH2 again. Make sure you don't do an advanced data restore either. That'll restore the messed up phone.apk and dialertabactivity.apk. Use Titanium. FBis251 and I have tested that out and it works perfectly fine for user apps.

It should be fine to do an advance restore if he didn't make a backup after he messed up the dialer. But I would first try to push a gb dialer then fix permissions.

Ah, right, I forgot about him possibly making a previous backup. As long as it's not a Froyo backup, it'll be fine.
However, pushing the GB dialer and fixing permissions won't fix the problem. I've practically tried all of the simple methods to fix it.
Unfortunately I did not make a backup...using titanium backup....is reflashing the only way...I tried the Paul Diddy dial, with replace and fix permissions still did not work and thats for gingerbread...the stock gingrrbread dialer fromkh2 also did not work
I had the same issue yesterday and spent all last night trying the same thing you did. I had to odin back to T959VUVKG4 and started over. Do not install [THEME] [CWM] KG6, KH1, KH2 FEELING BLUE - Overscroll Glow-CRT on-off. UPDATED 8/17 on GB it will mess up the dialer.

Sorry to hear that man. Your best bet is just to reflash and restore backups with Titanium instead. Start with a KC1 clean slate, just to be safe. Then flash ICBINB KH2 again from there.
Is there any version of AROMA file manager that works properly on the Explorer? I have discovered that I have some how lost the busybox binary from /system/xbin and now I need to replace it, which I think would probably be easiest by copying from /system/bin with AROMA FM. (If there's a better way, please let me know and I'll do it instead).
(At the moment, my phone won't boot, so it's kinda urgent...)
Isn't easyer to just flash the rom that you already have, with wiping only cache?

No, seeing as that wouldn't fix anything...I'm on stock ROM which does not include busybox, so flashing it would achieve nothing. (To clarify, busybox is required by some script(s) I have installed)
EDIT: Turns out that the latest version of AROMA FM works fine. Booting is certainly getting further now than it did before

No thank you. I have fixed the issue now, without needing to flash a new ROM or anything silly like that (my current setup is exactly what I want, there is no point in me changing it and having to go through the hassle of restoring all my apps, setting up all my accounts again etc.).
All I needed to do was use the latest AROMA FM to copy busybox from /system/bin to /system/xbin. Took all of about 20 seconds once I got a card reader and the latest version of AROMA. Compared to the time required to download and flash a new ROM, and all the app restoring that would be required following doing so (and I don't even have completely updated backups, so I'd be missing some apps/data), I think my solution was better.
