I was working on Hero 2.1 for MAGIC-> Latest Firmware
thought instead of me testing i should give it to user to test report probs:
so that i can give out update fixing major faced issues
About rom:
its gonna be released in 4 types:
1. simple without a2sd
2. with a2sd but simple
3. using sense apps but barebone (without sense)
4. barebone with a2sd
For now i have uploaded 1st type:-
Its simple port of hero 2.1 latest rom using sanpei kernel .32
camera n camcorder r working fine but -> they take time to load let it load completely
network speaker everything was okay
bluetooth n others too
but still there will be many issues that we hav to iron out slowly

Looking cool, i’ll be following this topic for sure....
this rom feels great so far
i managed to remove sense and all the other htc crap and i've set it to my own needs
the one and only thing i miss, is my bluetooth headset due to a reason i mentioned before
i highly recommend this rom to everyone

i know that new feature but it is not that as i've already tried it
This rom is really fast...
Camera/camcorder ok
Gallery 3D works (taken from cyanogen rom)
The music application switches fast from pause to play (I've tried Capy's or Sanpei roms and phone sometimes freezes)
Sometimes the phone freezes when i install an app, but i can wait.
But when i'm on the home screen, when i try to switch profile pressin the volume down button to switch to vibrate, the phone says Media Volume.
Music isn't playing so why it happens?

Everything seems to be working quite well!
It is a bit slow at time and not as fluid but this is only a test version and it's coming out this great! so I am very excited for the next builds, I will keep trying them out, I hope we will only have to flash and not wipe.
I think if we could overclock it to 710 mhz it would be great!! just like Cursordroid's 1.5 sense, when overclocked it is very very fast and fluid. is that possible??
Tested Camera, very fast! same as 1.5 the bootup, and it's great to use. One bug though, I will mention it below.
I am so happy to finally be able to use brightness widgets lol the power control works great, but sometimes slow to react, but now it's faster.
Bugs & inconveniences found:
- in the camera, when you set up the "contrast" option, it goes down -1 -2 correctly but when you go to +1 and +2 it discolors the whole pictures with strange colors, it does not work well.
- can be slow at times coming from Cursordroid (which is very fast) but stable ! (after using Taskiller it's faster now but still while we browse the setting and market, it can be a bit slow to load but i'm grateful for the stability ) The slowest setting seems to be "Sound & Display". and hmm it seems the graphic acceleration is what is making it slow (that's just what I perceive, but I do not know if that is true, because I notice the phone can be quite fast in many areas but as soon as there's something graphically intensive (like the weather or many icons) it becomes sluggish)
- Media Volume being used instead of normal volume when using the side buttons. Sometimes volume doesn't even work so we have to go in settings and move any slider then Sound will work.
- bootup a bit slow but doesn't matter that much. can easily be optimized.
- when it syncs with google, it is much slower to use the phone.
- led lights not working I think. (edit: I think only green Led is working)
- bad memory management so it becomes sluggish and memory goes down to 30 and less sometimes even after ending many tasks it would only go up to ~40.. though it does start with 100 free memory, but eventually goes down and becomes sluggish after a few hours. Hope you could look into that, it should balance out to around 60 after a day.. but this goes to below 40 after a few hours.
- received sms times are false (I downloaded "Sms time fix" to fix this problem, hope it works, but I hope you can find a permanent solution without the need for a program)

HTC Widgets are mostly all available in version 1. (weather, calendar, music player, bookmarks..)

Hello, first of all I want to thanks cyanogen, dwang and DBeCe, and all who those guys thanked to.
So, long story short I combined some of Cy's 4.2.4 improvements with dwang's 1.11 SPEEDY ROM, and DBeCe's blanco gray/silver theme with 5 screens instead of 3, with transparent statusbar and some personal touch to it (I am going to create a new theme as soon as possible, time is of the essence). So far everything is Working!

Nope, it doesn't have it, I could add it, but that is for another day, my eyes are really heavey now, just sendind some mails and it's bed time, it's 4 am in the morning here

Just flashed this...so far so good. Spiffing it up a little bit with some transitions, custom images, and various tweaks. I will be running test to see if I can break it. Dwang's roms have always ran well with my phone I expect this to be no different. Will edit this post when done.

Actualy I added separately into my ROM the new contacts, it looks better.
Screenshots updated, tomorrow I am going to add the nav and the new contacts, I will test and if everything ok upload, I really want it to remain a fast ROM, so anything unnecesarry will go .
Is it just me or does the Bluetooth app from Cyan's rom force close? I ran fix_permissions and rm -r and added it back still no go.

WOW!!!!! The fastest rom I've ever used on my G1 to date. this thing is flying by and never stopping to load a thing!!! Not to mention I haven't even begun to tweak it. No swapper, no over clocking, just reliable fast and stable, Big ups to you my friend you've delivered a true gem here with this one.
Will def keep an eye out for your other roms to come. I do wish that there were more themes available. But I'm sure they're in the works.

This thing is flying like no other. Everything is flawless. Ran into some force closes but not because of the rom just fix_permisson needed, although Bluetooth.apk is still force closing on me. No worries though no complaints here on my end.
On a side note. Why does it say Droid 2.0? Even when my computer finds my phone via bluetooth it no longer says G1 it says Droid...not complaining just wondering.

It is using Dwang's version of Cyanogen's kernel so I believe it is universal.

Hmm well this is odd. I flashed Slacker's theme and lost all data connection. It wouldn't even find networks for wifi. I flashed Blanco for Dwang and added the res folder from Slacker's theme into the framework-res.apk and still no data connection. But flashed the regular Blanco with anim folder from blur and data worked.....suggestions?

Since dwang's rom is a blantant rip of cy's work and you say you merged the two together and then themed it, it is now a rom. I think I am just gonna put my cm4.2.4 on here with my custom remix of other people work and call it a rom and say how fast it is
Hey guys, I'm been trying to port Aosp 2.1 onto our heroes too. I've got most the stuff to work, except camera. If someone wants to tag along and help, that'd be great. And now that i finished porting aosp 2.1 mostly i can now officially give it a name
I have to give credit to jnwhiteh over at the modaco board for giving me a platform on which to work on, gbhil for the kernel. maejrep toast flipz quietcblongs and gang who work on the 2.1 sense build and aosp for getting a lot of the functions such as data and radio and sensors to work. Without all these devs, this would have never been possible

v5 - fixed SU whitelist, lights under hard buttons work, a bit more polished of rom with less holes in it. Last to be of gsm hero source
v4 - Based on Cyanogen Framework, OpenGL ES Lite is added for improved 3d gfx, no more live wallpapers due to it depending on openGL ES 1.1

v2 - radio, BT, gps, and sms now work

Chuggy and Slow? You gotta be kidding me? its going pretty smooth and fast for me. And I think thats how the Nexus wallpaper should work, it does random shizz at touch. idk though becuz i've never seen it really at work. hmm, ahh well. Thanks for showing interest.

Not so great looking, like Laszlo ROM, but the best speed i've seen without ramhack by now, believe me. Worth the try.

I'll give this one a try as well. Been using Donut by Laszlo the last two days and I like the looks except for a few icons(don't like square boxes on my icons) and the speed is real good.
the not so great looking part is perfect, The ROMs posted here should focus on the internal technical aspects, like speed n stability. you wanna worry bout looks goto theme section. Themes are something personal

this thing is super fast, minor lag when coming to the first boot and i agree, i prefer a boot loading screen than a white screen...otherwise A+

Guy, you are crazy. I'm grateful, but it shoulden't be on XDA, between great developer ROM's. Maybe I'm wrong, but it's mine opinion. BonsaI it's mine modification/distribution of some great ROM.
If you install it, you wont disappointed, like author said.

Well, I always keep saying about ROMs that the AOSP outpasses al the rest of the ROMs in this forum, Now that I have used this ROM for a coupl of hours - I kind of having a feeling to keep it running on my G1.
1. According to speed my experience on G1:
CSDI/BLUE MAGIC> BONSAI> AOSP> SupD/Fasttest> Laszlo> and rests
2. The Look is not bad, stability and speed sustainibility wil be reported as sson as I have used this for another couple of days
3. Built in apps choice is really great! - it has ROOT explorer, BT FTP, Quick boot, SetCPU, SU, Taptalker, Sound Recorder by default
4. Built in HTC IME
5. I am liking it

Maybe distributing paid apps is not so good for a rom...
missing some apps from the market. is there newer version of the market out there that is installed on this rom?
I'm impressed. This rom is crazy smooth.

could you explain a little bit more? do you use a2sd? and after installing this rom your old apps were missing under downloads? I want to help you but I need more info... oh, also thanks for donating so much

hey bro excellent review. this is how people should review stuff. comparing them to the other roms theyve used, and also providing feedback was to what this rom is good at and bad at (aka a pro's con's list). some people were saying they had reboot issues? i'm guessing yours is running perfect. lazlo's rom was ok but he doesn't respond on feedback and i disliked it because i couldnt install the latin_ime.apk without a force close.
@sino8r- is their latin_ime.apk running in this rom or will it fc as well? if this rom runs well, i am going to theme it to CYANOCH (if you guys remember that is what i put together using CYANOID and ENOCH themes for two roms that had no good themes at that time. currently i am running Pay's rom with advanced launcher because i didnt like home++;i themed it as well to CYANOCH and made it JIT enabled- so far its very smooth.

I wouldn't even really call this a port, maybe a bastardization is appropriate ... but, with a little help from the kitchen, I was able to put together a workable version of CR's MyTouch Slide BETA rom.
This port does have working Browser and Gmail which was missing from Binary's version.
- Give it some time (10-15mins) to load
Full wipe ... then flash this port ... that's it
I'm not held liable if you don't know what you're doing and muck up your phone

- Flash 10.1 for G1 is something im looking to patch for G1 users, try the included Skyfire Beta browser as it has its own flash...
- Removed Stock and News apks as they were causing some sort of lag issues on G1... remember, the market is ur friend

hmm weird, I did that and it didnt work. maybe I didn't wait long enough? or I just had to flash again. Thanks. And sorry for the stupid question. A lot of people post things that you need to flash something else first and never make it clear of what it is that needs to be flashed.
Does that include the sd wipe?
If you're already partitioned then yes, do a SD wipe
It's like a 76' Ford Fairmont ... You have to give it a while to load.
Run logcat while loading and you'll see that everything is working just fine

I really enjoyed what T-Mobile put together here, but the rom was not good on battery and my phone was running way too hot . Going to patiently wait for some updates then flash back. Can't wait!!

I've been running it a couple days now and haven't really noticed any major battery drains.
It also comes stocked with SetCPU, you can set your profiles and throttle down the processor once your battery surpasses a certain temperature.
Sweet looking build, but It keeps freezing on me while syncing. I also got the reboot issue when selecting theme.

I've noticed the frequent freezes especially after installing apps and the reboot issue reoccurring is also prevalent in the original build. CR should address it in the next update.
What I did was went ahead and partitioned with ext4 & swap and it seems to run a lot more smoother than before.
Yea I wiped and flashed again. This time I selected the advertised theme and just went slower than before. No random reboots and everything is now working fine. It is a little too slow for me right now but I love how it looks. I also like to remove contact photos in my address book view and cannot in this build.
On a side note, does anyone have issues with Nandroid restores? I can perform a backup and restore but when I boot up after a restore it never gets past the splash screen... kind of annoying and defeats the purpose of the backup.

Ahh i problem i seem to have found is that the GPS doesnt work.. well at least for me.
Problems that i have found:
LED notification doesnt work
GPS doesnt work
Again, awesome work.
So far everything seems fine, except screen brightness.
I hope the LED patch will fix the brightness issue
What exact problem you get with brightness?
I'll second that GPS doesn't seem to be working, GPS test finds no satellites whatsoever.
Screen brightness just doesn't change as it should automatically.

I have another weird glitch thanks to Gapps, it comes up with a screen after booting sayin "touch the android to begin", nothing happens when I touch it. And I can't back/home out of the app either... so basically can't do anything lol, anyone know what app that is?
Had the exact issue with the apk, because of that i dont recommend flashing it right now.
It works if you flash it after you loggued into the rom at least once

There no need of benchmarking. It's how they feel on everyday use. I really hope all the bugs will be wiped out so we can have a everyday use CM7.

I was only doing because it's a good comparison. Also I have too much spare time. It is very usable as a daily rom and so much less laggy than with all the sense stuff. I'd stay tuned, at the rate the bugs are being fixed I'd say we'll have a stable rom very soon!
I think this version i really stable, i am using it atm, because i never use bluetooth it doesnt mattter to me.
But still i will continue fixing the rest.. i have a version that is a lot more optimized too

I'm using it atm, the only thing that I'm missing is GPS as I like to do geocaching, but I have faith you'll get it fixed. Optimization is good! I have noticed some slight graphical lag in menus but optimization should make it perfect! Thanks again for all your hard work! Also it's clearly the video driver as the youtube app doesn't work either, it squeaks when trying to play a video! if you need help with anything let me know
