HTC RAM question - General Questions and Answers

How come all HTC phones (at least the ones ive had)
for example they state 192MB of RAM yet the memory manager states 111MB so where is the rest of the RAM? seems all these phones just use high amounts of RAM while nothing is running...

(Q)RAM being eaten up but slower responsiveness

Hi,
I recently got the Sensation XE and have had it for a week or two now. in the last couple of days, my RAM usage suddenly shot up (going from averaging 200mb free to less than 100mb free). I haven't installed anything recently so there isn't a new application eating it up.
I've read that task killers aren't neccessary and also less free ram reported should mean better performance. firstly, task killers haven't done crap and i have less ram yet its running far slower than when i first got it.
Any advice?
I have the same issue on my SXL. I have also posted a question (here is the link in case I get anything back you may be able to use) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1488516
So even dual cores have this issue. How annoying, I was thinking of getting rid and getting an SE What's a good phone these days? They all seem to be going backwards...

Memory leak

Hi,
My HTC one S phone came with 1024MB RAM. I understand that the system OS needs RAM memory so there is actually only 684MB available for running apps.
However, I am using only a total of about 100MB apps for the moment (adding up the MB's used by the apps as shown under 'activated apps') but still there seems to be no more than 280MB free RAM available (while I expect about 580 MB available).
This does not make sense to me. Or does it? Could there be a memory leak?
Anyone with the same problem?
Many thanks.
Now that you mentioned it, I also notice something similar with my phone... I did a bit of searching, and I found something that is a little old (as far as phone time goes), but perhaps useful:

In summary, so long as your phone isn't eating up all of the RAM, you should be fine (is it impacting your experience? As for me, it doesn't seem to be). I wish I knew better what is going on, though. I would wager, though, that if one were to run an AOSP ROM on this phone, one would see an improvement in RAM usage, esp. since Sense wouldn't be hogging resources (not that it seems to matter much to me right now, though). Also, the reduction of bloatware from using another ROM would further reduce the amount of things running in general.

usable ram??

hi
what is usable ram out of 2GB?
1.78gb is useable of the Note 10.1's RAM.
out of which around 450MB is locked at boot up... so in effect the "usable" ram is really about 1.3 GB. personally, i have never reached that limit and i never bother to close apps through task manager...

RAM/Memory Manager

Hi,
Just wondering how much RAM does the Android OS use up on everyone's HTC One A9.
On my device Android OS is consistently using around 700MB on average, which added to other apps equates to a total of 1.5GB in total of average memory use (I've got the UK version 2GB RAM, of which according to the RAM manager it only sees 1.8GB). So therefore I'm always using around 88% of my total RAM.
The next highest RAM user is Android System on 100MB.
I'm wondering is this normal? Are others seeing similar figures?

Android OS using 1.8 GB Ram?

My ram usage seems to be 4.8 GB. Why is it so much?
How do I reduce this?
Why do you want to reduce RAM usage? How is it affecting the phone? Which app isn't working properly?
Linux (Android uses the Linux kernel) uses free RAM as cache to improve performance. On devices with more RAM, it will use more RAM. When something else needs more RAM, the system deletes part of this cache and memory usage goes down. More info: https://www.linuxatemyram.com/
All this management happens behind the scenes and there's no need for users to worry about it. Plus, this phone comes with at least 6GB of RAM... I doubt you'll ever run out of memory.
