I have been reading several topics on the forthcoming HD and it seems that most of us are very excited and anxious about the HD. Was wondering how many of us would actually dump the TP for the new HD...!!!
I personally don't see the point. The HD is basically a bigger diamond with Pro specs.
I seem to be one of the few who still prefer phones that actually fit in a pocket.
Now a Diamond with Pro specs (RAM, card slot, video out, etc) only missing the keyboard but thinner would be something to think about.
I'm very tempted to go for the Touch HD when (if!) it eventually gets released on T-Mob UK.
Fed up of waiting for them to get the Pro out of the door, plus now I'm running TF2D on my Hermes with the Diamond keyboard I'm not so sure I need a hw keyboard, especially with the bigger screen of the HD typing should be a breeze.
It's not so big as to not fit in a pocket, same size as an iPhone pretty much and noone complains about the size of that (not even Apple haters like me!). It'll be like going back to my old Blueangel! I think the thickness of the Pro makes it less pocketable than a bigger but thinner phone like the HD.
the reason i didnt get a diamond or iphone is because theres no keyboard... so no, im still on the raphael ship
Please note that the HD has no directional button. This will make it useless for games. Even with Diamond and Touch Pro, the limitation of buttons available make it difficult running games. Further more, I'm missing the camera and record button. It is quite troublesome using the TouchFlo 3D to get to the camera.

directional buttons? make use of the accelerometer! i really wish WM has games like iphone
Hmm i'm thinking the same, i currently own a Pro but i'm thinking of selling it and get a HD later. But i'm not sure atm.
I don't know if i'm convinced about the iPhone/HD big, wide & flat format.
Plus the fact that I always have the impression that the larger the screen the more susceptible to damage that screen is. I would be scared witless to put something like a HD in my pocket!!
I really would have to play with one in a store and see how good the onscreen keyboard was before I could make an informed choice.
So far my TP is doing everything I need and is a big improvement over my old Artemis that served me well for 2 years. Would changing from a TP to a HD be an improvement??? Seeing the specs are similar what "improvement" would I be getting??? If the answer is only a "nice big screen" then why would I bother bearing in mind it would probably cost a couple of hundred pounds to 'upgrade'???
Never: it's way to big, it has no keyboard and no flash(light).
Well... talkin about the flash, I dont really think that the flash on touch pro is of any use either...
I just saw someone walking by that just might be prittier than my current girlfriend....
Because I'm spoiled (and Christmas is almost here), I'm going to get the HD and keep the TP. This way, I can alternate depending on which type of mood I'm in. Just like swapping my watches.
Geez...I love my wife!

That means the iPhone is useless for games? I've even seen NES emulators on iPhones... Come on now.

5MP camera, 3.5mm headphone jack for starters.
The 5mp camera is not really a major thing to be to be honest, cause mobile cameras could never come even close to the quality of the actual point & shoot cameras, hence ppl who takes snaps with their phones can very well get away wit the 3.2mp for random moments capturing. But yes the audio jack is definately a good improvement on the HD, I always prefer to have a conventional audio connector...

I totally agree the camera is just a gimmick really. If you want good quality pics to keep you'll take them with a conventional digital camera with an optical zoom. Phone cameras are only good for MMS messages and snapshots to be disposed of at a later date IMHO.
As for the audio connector... why spend 200 quid to update the phone when you can get a HTC mini USB to 3.5" audio adapter on-line for £5???? Doesn't make sense to me unless you have money to burn!
I thought about it too, but my main concern is battery life. Its not great on my TP, with that screen it will be terrible on the HD. I doubt you'll get through watching a full movie!
"That means the iPhone is useless for games? I've even seen NES emulators on iPhones... Come on now."
maybe he mean useless for all those current wm games where many require more hardware buttons then any htc phones got to control various functions like tombraider don't know of any htc phone which had enough buttons for that
I wouldn't replace my TP with HD because I think it's great having a keyboard on your phone for messaging, email, even writing blogs or modifying web pages when I'm not home.

Are you still running the stock ROM? Wouldnt hurt to explore a cooked flavour before you abandon it
The interactive Puff! iPhone app which lets you “blow” up cute Japanese girls’ skirts by blowing on the mic of your phone. The harder you blow, the higher the skirt goes and the girl’s squeal. Now the app has been ported to Windows Mobile. The app is in Chinese or Japanese ( I have no clue ) the menu is on the top of the screen and there are some predefined models that the app comes with. The harder you blow in the mic the high the skirt goes ..
Here is a video: http://www.viddler.com/explore/wmArcade/videos/25/
This is still the 0.1 version.
Link to Download http://rapidshare.com/files/388776096/etpChui.zip
very funny!
funny .... but you have to blow pretty hard !!!
nice
applicable looks great, but watch out during the blow in the microphone of your HTC the chance that you've fought in your phone because of your blows, i blow to much in to my phone for a split second it freeze it.
but still a nice app loll
One of those useless iPhone apps to add to the thousands they already have lol.
I noticed that a lot who people who see the Transformer for the first time are curious about what it's capable of. Now I just randomly click some apps and hope for their approval.
Therefore I would like to make some sort of list with apps that are graphically nice and show one or more of the strengths of the Transformer. With that list we can show our magic device to the world in under 5 minutes and encourage other people to get one as well or at least favor Honeycomb over iPad ;-)
If you know some apps or features that are really nice, let me know so I can add them to the list! I'll update it on regular basis.
Youtube HC-version
The wall looks really nice and uses the full width of the screen.
Gun Bros
Fun game that shows visual power and easy to play and understand
Stock browser
Going to (for example) Engadget shows that browsing is just like a computer with tabs and Flash etc. but with tablet-additions of thumbnavigation and pinch-to-zoom.
Gmail
It demos how easy it is to use the TF in landscape and you can go over your mail with your left and right hand combined.
Google Docs app
The TF (with docking even extra) is also very usable for school and office purposes. Docs also emphasizes the use of clouds and gives an opportunity to show the on-screen/docked keyboard.
10 finger multi-touch drawing app?
I checked most of the drawing apps, but they all don't seem to support 10 point multitouch. Anybody knows a hidden gem of that kind? Sketcher does not support multi-touch, but is really fun with resulting in acceptable drawings.
Movieplayer
Since Youtube can get laggy on fullscreen HD, a movie with the right profile (Handbrake settings) lets you demo the high quality of the screen but also the nice viewing angels on the IPS-panel.
Google Skymap
App shows you a map of the sky (duh!) but uses the compass and gyro to do sort of augmented reality.
Pulse News
Nice customizable news reader that uses the full size of the screen with the navigation left and the article right. Portrait also has a slick interface.
If you have some suggestions for the list, don't hesitate to post!
Reddita!!!!!!! Best bathroom reading experience ever. Plus it's developed by one of our own here
Google Skymap
Dungeon Defenders HD
Qbism HD
n64oid with wiimote control
Mylibrary
Mycloud (esp. splashtop remote desktop)
Sketcher (awesome drawing app, not multitouch though)
Google Earth
Google Books
Camera
Video Chat with Google Talk
Tank Hero
PewPew
Angry Birds
Feedly
Fruit Ninja THD
Taptu
Pulse News
Plex
IMDB
Dungeon Defenders: FW Deluxe
PewPew 2
Zenonia 2
ScummVM
Splashtop
Thanks for the suggestions.
I've added Google Skymaps, it shows a great use of the compass and gyro. Also added Pulse News since it has some nice effects to it. Plus it's easy to keep up with the news!
(Google Books is disabled in NL but would be a nice addition to show e-reading use. Also Google Talk video would be nice but not available for most handset devices)
Art of Glow is a great drawing app that looks awesome. It does have multi touch input (I've only used up to 5 fingers at one time though)
Just on some of the games in this thread like gun broad, which version works best with the TF,seen that some download orbs tablets version or even some mobile phones versions?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean, but just always take the tablet version. Gun Bro for example downloads additional resources for the setup and I guess there already the tablet is differentiated from mobile phones.
Art of Glow seems like a fun app, but I get fc's when I try to use more then three fingers...
I agree with the above.
Add Google Body in there too if you're into the allied health or medical field. Though there's the occasional force close when you have too many apps open, it works flawlessly when it's the only app open.
samurai 2 vengance, monster madness and HD solitare look outsounding on the e PAD just download them and they run great, and sketcher is brilliant fun and good to show it off
I tried Phone My PC and it's a lot better than splashtop. I know splashtop is free but this other app is pretty cool if you can afford the luxury. So forget my suggestion beforehand.
I brought my transformer over to my parents house to "show off" to my brother who is a huge Apple fan who is into gaming.
I've never been so embarassed!!! There just aren't any real quality games on Android.. the ones that I thought were great (reckless racing, dungeon defenders, gun bros) are all on ipad, but he was showing me awesome game, after awesome game on his Ipad 2 - maybe two dozen!!! And don't even get me started on ipad apps... they just blow away anything on android.
I'm glad my wife has an ipad, so I can use that for games at least... marble mixer, jenga, dark space and a few other fantastic casual games are all on there - until Android steps up it's game.. the moral of the story is : don't try to show off in front of an ipad user! LOL

Took my TF to work to show to coworkers. Many were not impressed with it since they had iPads for work (including myself). I popped out the docking station, docked it, showed off by typing in polaris office, and closed the dock/keyboard to show how much it looks like a netbook. Their jaws literally fell on the floor. I said "Try that on an iPad".

You got it right. I have this vision that the first Transformer availability problems will be dwarfed by the second round of shortages due to folks who actually get to see the TF in action, and realize this is a revolutionary product, which has no parallel in the marketplace, at least for now. Glad to hear that you managed to generate a little TF lust among your coworkers. Good work.
I think somebody ought to do a How-To video on demonstrating the TF to its best advantage.

That just made my day!
iPads are great for games, it's undisputed.
for me the best way to impress is just to take it out of the box, and get all your contacts and apps on your transformer without plugging it to a computer - for free.
but there are a lot of things that you can't do on an iPad too: emulating a web server, DLNA, pulse, google docs - documents syncing across phone, computer and tablet in real time, hell even the CNN app is awesome.
but what really shines is probably the robustness of the OS, customization of homescreens, and true multi-tasking!
Added the drawing-app Sketcher which creates actually pretty nice drawings. I did find SuperPaint (lite) that supports multi-touch but isn't really slick looking or fun to use. Isn't there a developer that wants to make some money or a much wanted app?
Also: Caustic Demo - it's a seriously impressive music-making app
Most of us her root our phones to suck every last bit of potential out of them.
I'm curious if most of us 'root' the rest of our lives fro the same reason as well.
For example, I pulled the stock intake out of my car and put in a high flow intake system. I don't race or even drive like a maniac, just like I don't use my rooted phone to do too much more than make phone calls and browse the web. I just like that I can make my car a little more fuel efficient and get a little more power for acceleration when I need it.
Back to phone, I did the silicone mod to the Sensation to keep the dust out because waiting for it to get bad and need a replacement seemed like a dumb plan.
My computer....Linux OS. (I'm sure a good number of us do that one, but damn you Dell and you proprietary wifi drivers that take hours to hack to get working!)
I put a double blade on my mulching lawnmower so it mulches twice as well in half the time.
I couldn't survive without my Logitech Harmony remote for my entertainment system, the one that lets you flash custom button mapping and macros to the remote so single button presses turn on the TV, DVD player, and switch the stereo from Cable to DVD while turning off the DVD player. (Seriously....I could not live without this.)
I have a custom designed Windows 2000 based computer in my car running better GPS software on a 7 inch monitor than you can get in the newest Garmin device. Also runs my music and car diagnosis with an OBII interface into the car's main engine management computer. All with easy and safe to use touchscreen design in front of the shifter. (Emphasis on safe to use) And it looks like it came out of the factory with this computer installed, thank you very much.
You know...this kind of stuff.
So do other people hack everything in their lives? Or just the phone?
Oh yeah, with cars I do it so much more. Aftermarket parts is what I spend a lot of money on, for example this week, I've brought a whole new receiver and headunit for my Ford Explorer, changed all four speakers, bypassed the factory amp and now I have much better sound with more quality bass.
I also had a manual transmission VW Jetta, there was something called the swiss cheese mod, where you cut holes into the intake box so the air filter/intake sucks in more air and gives it an more louder/meaner sound while accelerating.
I've had my fair share of mods, can't remember all, but mostly with cars though. Getting them out of manufacturer specs and taking it to an whole another level.

Unfortunately, as anyone who likes to flash ROM's knows....if you can make it better, tomorrow you can make it even ore better, and even better still the next day....and so on and so forth.
There does come a time when I feel like I spend more time tweaking / building / modifying things than I ever spend actually using them.

Yeah, one-handed calling is a definite no-no. I tried my ASUS TF700T phone in a full train compartment, but all my fellow passengers were looking at me in a funny way. That might have been me almost screaming to get any reception in the microphone of the 700, though. Also, they could probably hear the conversation better than I did, the speaker being at the back of the phone and all.

I've actually seen people do it. I always smirk when they try and take an artsy photograph with it -- last summer, I was witness to a group of Japanese tourists snapping pictures of the animals in a large zoo in Amsterdam (Artis, for the Dutch). Hilarious.
For the sake of information and blowing off some quirkyness: before my eye surgery, I had great eyesight and lugged around a D90 with glass in abundance on trips like that. No way I'm taking pictures with a tablet -- that would feel like being recruited into a police riot squad and getting your equipment, then noticing the rather disconcerting likeness of your baton to a large German sausage and your riot shield's resemblance to an American pizza... until you realize that they are, actually, a German sausage and a big-wheel pizza.

Thanks, regard that as a compliment.
I was surprised to learn that in some countries it is actually against the law to have your digital camera not make a fake shutter sound when photographing. That seemed jaw-droppingly stupid -- as I've always hated people with digital shutter soudns, as well as people having keypad sounds on their phones (makes dialing go "beep-beepbeeeeeepbop-booop-beepbeepbeep-baab). The latter class also talks so loud when in phone conversation that there's no place to hide on the commute. I can still hear them on the other end the train -- until it was put forward that, seemingly, a high percentage of silent cameras was used to make up-skirt photos and such. Seems I missed the point entirely in having a silent camera, since I've been making pretty "decent" pictures of flowers and animals and such. There's no eroticism in that, unless you have some specific kind of sexual deviation.
I've actually used the TF700 as a phone on several occaisions with GrooveIP. It's actually pretty nice with a bluetooth headset, but I'd never put it up to my face because a) can you imagine the nasty cheek grease? and b) no proximity sensor to turn the screen off.

That might actually be an advantage: currently it's freezing over here in Holland. If I'd put the screen brightness on high and just pretend to be on the phone with somebody, I'd at least have half of my face warmed up comfortably. I wouldn't worry that much about people looking, because they probably think I'm retarded anyway.
Well, I suppose you could do VOIP through your tab. Skype and such would be a way, but that doesn't count as a telephone.

Seems I missed the point entirely in having a silent camera, since I've been making pretty "decent" pictures of flowers and animals and such. There's no eroticism in that, unless you have some specific kind of sexual deviation.

Seriously? That's ridiculous. If you have such a problem with people taking picture up your skirt, pay some bloody attention to your surroundings, it's not hard, or simply don't wear a frikkin skirt. I never saw the point of them.
Yes, let's put the sound back on our shutters. Because it's such a good plan to use a shutter sound when photographing a herd of, say, deer. Scares the bloody sh*t out of them, forget about making a second shot. Not to mention butterflies, cats... And don't get me started on people. Taking urban snaps is pretty much pointless if everyone goes either looking straight at you to see what you're doing, or runs away because they're camera shy. Evidently laws are made by morons.
That's why I'm always in the silent coupé. No idiots on phones

So, If I see a retard on the station using his tablet as a fake phone, I'll know it's you

Yup. Find out before I spot you, because otherwise you'll have no time to run. </creepy retard mode> You might think I was a cretin -- although I *think* I do not look like one -- but at leats I'd be a suspected cretin with a warm ear.
Shame of the one that froze up.

Simple solution: use a real phone on your other ear - or even better: buy another TF700 and use that.
1 TF700 .... $ 700
Another TF 700 .... $ 500
Seeing the faces of the people around you: priceless
