The Motorola i1 is the newest android fone out for SouthernLinc and soon Boosst Mobile........yes thats right Boost Mobile. Now has anyone got there hands on one yet and if so have you rooted it? Cuz I would love to know how to root it cuz I will soon have one when it comes to Boost Mobile. Well thanx for reading.
i got mine to and would love to root it and have a new rom any roms in development ? for the moto i1 ?
i was wondering the same thing im getting one today but my friend has one and there is no debbugging mode in settings i dont know if this will be a issue or if im loking in the wrong place iv have several android phones and rooted them all, so i didint think it would be so tricky to find debugging
UPDATE
i found debugging mode its in the usb menu....i guess im just curious about root...
I just got mine today. The USB drivers from motorola work, so we can play around in ADB. I hope for an easy root, but I have a feeling the i1 shares alot of hardware with the backflip and or the cliq XT. I don't think either of those have root yet, so I don't know what our chances will be.

i was thinking the same thing...
Has anyone figured out how to get into recovery or fastboot yet? I have tried every button combination i think and have not yet found it.
I did some how get into a diagnostic type app on boot (tested screen colors and touch calibratsion) but I have been unable to replicate that.
I am pretty sure we are SOL when it comes to root. I tried to run flash_image recovery from adb shell to push a new recovery img to the phone and it dies saying can't find recovery partition.
Unless it is possible to mount the system and writable with a custom boot.img I don't see how this could be done.
I 2 just bought the i1 and can't wait to push a new flash. I hope we are not SOL and that some1 more experienced then I will show us the light and find a way.
I am confident I could get us a root, I just need to find a way into recovery. Or fastboot for that matter. In your free time guys, reboot while mashing different button configs to see if you can find it.
I tried to push a custom recovery but adb said recovery partition not found. So either there isn't one (I hope this is untrue) or it has a different name.
Rooting !!!
Hold the green send key and the center key on boot up you get a screen that looks like it would be fastboot but the device doest show in fastboot devices from the SDK.
Is the Moto i1 going to get its own forums on xda? Who decides/creates the forums?
Is there anyone with experience making android apps?
I have found that /data/local is read/writable so I put the su bin in that DIR and installed superuser whitelist. If in ADB shell I run /data/local/su the superuser app asks for permission but fails because it is looking for su in /system/bin.
I am trying to compile the superuser app from source to have it look in /root/local, but the build is failing. If we can get that then we should be able to remount mtdblock7 to /system as read/writable and put su where it belongs.

Thank you for copy/pasting my post from another thread.... With that possible fastboot though, I know fastboot has had some issues with drivers in window7 64. So can someone try that on a XP machine and see if it shows in fastboot devices?
I am running x64 windows 7 also so I guess my button mashing has been in vein... looks like we are on the right track though...

I am guessing we won't get a forum for the Moto i1 Until it get's rooted, as I don't see people being to interested/developing/hacking for it until then.
hope u guys get ur forum . i luv boost!
I don't know how helpful this is but messing around I found IDEN phonebook manager from Motorola. Installed it and changed USB communication to Modem and was able to see the phone reboot and read sim data. Check it out and let me know what you think.
here is the link to their site to get and test it out.
http://servicemyphone.motorola.com/iden/support/software/organizer_upd.jsp
Ok, so as the previous post states I was able to access my sim card from the program which had me wondering if all IDEN phones from motorola had a special way of flashing so I looked around and found this link:
http://servicemyphone.motorola.com/iden/support/software/html/firmware_utility.html
I found a firmware update for my old boost mobile i776 and downloaded upon running the program I noticed it launched a program called Iden upgrade utility. I am now thinking that is going to be our ticket into the phone.
Again let me know what you think.
how to do the hard reset this phone i1 (with password)?
thanks
This was all I could find. If you get the external figured out let us know...

To reset your phone to factory settings and erase all the data on your phone,
1. Touch the app tab, in the home screen to open the app menu.
2. Touch Settings
3. Touch SD card & phone storage
4. Touch Master Clear
Warning: All data on your phone will be deleted.
Contact your Service provider/Carrier or Motorola Customer Service Agent for help with external Hard Reset / Master Clear button sequence for i1.

not yet. the latest version 1.3.18 which includes the new radio, as you know, has not been rooted as of yet, and im pretty sure the xt comes with this version as well. unfortunately i found out the hard way as i bricked my phone in the process of flashing a rooted rom with the latest radio img. we have to wait a little bit longer
Just picked one up as well. I really like the phone its fast and everything works but root would be nice. We need more devs on this.
I hope this phone gets rooted soon... I just got one and all these preinstalled apps are annoying me.
Well I have learned a few things messing with my Cliq XT
1. Bootloader USB - Hold MENU (blue screen)
2. USB FASTBOOT MODE, Recovery Mode - Hold Power + Camera

That's for the regular Cliq but thanks for the thread it was a good read.
I'd love to see root as well missing it after the upgrade from my G1. I've been trying to find some kind of thinktank on this topic but all I can find is people asking about it. Are any devs working together on this? I'd like to help out.
omg for real i want root ugh..has any1 heard anything ????????
umm possible root access for cliq xt??
ok im not sure im very good with technology and electronics but new to the rooting thing. i downloaded astro file manager and i can see all the files within the phone memory not the sd card. now maybe this has already been figured out just no one has done any hacking yet or maybe a new discovery but if so im assuming this would make rooting all android phones easier.
please give some responses on this and i hope im on to something because i cannot wait for 2.1 anymore!
Quench rooted in Brazil
Here in Brazil we already have root for Quench/Cliq XT.

Hi everyone,
Unfortunately, our root method only works for Quench users. Cliq XT users won't be able to do it same way.
We obtained some progress in last days. We got a Custom Recovery for Quench and also offer a retail firmware to be installed through this recovery.
The link to our custom recovery is: 4shared.com/file/IqwapK4-/Custom_Recovery_Quench.html
What you, Cliq XT users, can do is try to install this custom recovery and then you can install any firmware for both CliqXT or Quench.
We also offer a brazilian firmware where it is possible to root, since you can install it on your phones.
This is the link: https : / / rsddownload.motorola.com/download/ZEPLA_U1_0.12.196-P4-v1.0-svn16-USAZEP01TIMBRLA012-GAS_LA_GSXZPLNTIMBRLA_P020-CPv0.3.2-TIMBR-upgrade-customer-secure-UPGRADE.sbf.gz
If you can install the custom recovery, pay attention to some observations:
1) When performing the restore, the button to confirm the action is the camera key, not the home button, as showed in recovery.
2) We provide the dump of a Brazilian retail firmware to be applied with the custom recovery: 4shared.com/file/9lYfDpAY/nandroid.html
Please, if someone is willing to try, feel free to ask any questions and keep us informed of your progress.
Regards.

I can tell you that with astro file manager you can see root files, and ive confirmed that this phone doesnt has the su file so you cannot use superuser obviously but you can run any command there is in the phone. I was wondering if I could take control by putting a su file and chmoed it to make a superuser commander so the phone does everything you tell him... I mean it is linux so I think all it needs is the su file.
Another thing i noticed was that if you typed on a terminal anything that isnt a command some gibberish it will say "Permission Denied" but if you type any command that is in the phone itll do it without authorization...
Just some thoughts...
Oh BTW MisfitsTimmy show us your findings with that custom recovery thanks in advance!
Hey guys, maybe someone can help here:
My G-Slate randomly decided to power off after setting a wallpaper and when I pushed the reset button on the device it now only comes back on to a black screen with the unlock circle on the screen - but the screen doesn't let me select anything.
The only option I can think of is to factory reset the device/wipe it - but the only way I know to do this is via the system menus. Is there a way to wipe the device with the buttons? Fastboot? Anything?
Is it rootable? Do you have recovery? I have heard that there were problems with rooting I don't know this device but there should be reset button or something like that under sim card.
I had ADB interfacing with it, not rooted though. Is there a command I can use to wipe the data via ADB?
Try:
Code:
adb shell
format SYSTEM
format DATA
format CACHE
But i'm afraid that you need root and type su after adb shell
Right now the device is unrootable and unlockable. I've been trying for the past week to do both with little success. There are multiple threads already (although still no forum yet) on XDA about trying to develop the G-Slate. If you want to view them all in one place, then you can check out this bit.ly bundle I made. I updated it today (to include your thread). Other than that, sorry there's not much I can do to help. I suggest that, if all you were really trying to do was change out the wallpaper and the device bricked itself, you should take it back to the store and see if they can fix it or swap it out with a new one.
Here's the LINK to the bundle.
Thanks for the help guys, looks like I'll be sending it back to get a new one - oh well

Rooting is possible and as rooting new devices goes its not that hard if runing Ubuntu
Hi there. I got me a samsung galaxy 550 from virgin mobile canada yesterday, and well, I kinda like it despite being a slow piece of hardware with a 320x240 screen but until I can get enough money to buy something better, I'm fine with this (the phone I had before was a nokia n95, so that's a step up.)
The problem is, I want to try out the official 2.2.1 rom from samsung, and the only way I can do that is to update via odin. actually, that's not the problem, but I want to make a backup of all the apps I've downloaded already, and I just can't get it rooted. at all. z4root, universal androot, superoneclick; they just don't work. the one that was the closest to getting it rooted was superoneclick, and even then it can't finish the job, so I'm stuck with superuser on an unrooted phone, and titanium backup won't work either, so I'm kinda stuck here.
What else could I do?
anyone? please?
6 days later...
You may have noticed this is a "development and hacking" forum. Your problem reads more like a user error than a development one.
I do not mean to say this thread does not belong. It is just that "they just don't work" is something like what a Windows-using grandmother would say.
What are the exact errors you are getting? Preferably, they should be copied and pasted from the terminal itself.

Well, z4root doesn't do anything after it says "running exploit", superoneclick gets stuck on "waiting for device", and the only time it managed to get superuser onto it, it couldn't root the device no matter if I updated it or not; universal androot says "FAILED NO FU GOO", both odin and heimdall fails to connect to the device, and ADB doesn't even see the phone no matter what mode it is. I can't seem to find how to boot into recovery mode (I only ever get instructions to boot into download mode).
ok now in odin I get "cannot open the usb serial port. code: 2". sometimes it's code 5.
Go to madteam.co...dedicated for G5 users, you will get help there at no time

First problem is ADB not seeing the phone. ADB is pretty necessary if you want to debug something. You will need to download LG's Windows driver for your phone if you use Windows. I will include the one I use for my Optimus V here.
On many LG phones it is impossible to boot into recovery or fastboot mode without modification.
Try zergRush from here first:
https://github.com/revolutionary
If not working, try GingerBreak from here:
http://c-skills.blogspot.com/2011/04/yummy-yummy-gingerbreak.html
You may want or need to compile these first which is going to add another level of complexity. Be patient.
The general idea is:
1.setup your drivers
2.get comfortable working with ADB
3.run temporary root
4.immediately flash recovery
5.immediately Nandroid backup everything in several places for safety
6.test Nandroid backup
7.make whatever modifications you like, including permanent root
That's not a lg phone.
Ok so I managed to install cyanogemod and everything's fine. now, I just wanna know, is there any way to enable multitouch on this thing? it's got a capacitive screen, but no multitouch. can that be fixed or is it really just a hardware issue?
Multitouch is not possible,a fake dual touch is possible.

so its out, how do we root it? any existing methods that work for it? also why doesn't it have a section here on XDA
its called WPT005 it's by Iriver and is JB 4.1.1 Tried many drivers and root tools, no luck ;/ also there's no adb driver for it ? ? had to use the generic google one but it doesn't work right
have searched all over the webs and nothing >.<
if somebody figures out how to root please share:3
also I made a driver for btjoystick for the wikipad gamepad, covers everything, if you want it, get it here ^^
http://www.mediafire.com/?gorvtaa3ty0d5w4 if we ever get root on the wikipad this driver will be invaluable:3 as it will allow the gamepad to be mapped to any onscreen joystick or button in any and every game
the Nvidia shield will have some pretty stiff competition from the Wikipad as its already getting an app that will allow play of any pc game on it just like shield except its not limited to just select steam games:3

How's it worked since, any issues?
If I may, I have a favor to ask. Could you post a screenshot of something using root functionality? It's not that I don't believe that you got it running, but I'm nervous about risking it without being %100 because I'm a big baby. Afaik you can't fix it if you brick without having stock rom recoveries and whatnot, so it's tough to wanna risk that. I really wanna get some touchscreen mapping to the controls though.
Thanks!

root works but cant install CWM
I picked up one of these as well, and the root worked, but I am having a problem actually getting CWM installed. The fastboot command prompt on my PC wont every get past "waiting for device". I followed the instructions in the readme, but I'm not sure I'm actually getting the tablet into the right "mode". I held Vol+ and Power to get to a menu with options of "Boot Normally", "Fastboot Protocol", "Recovery Kernel", and "Forced Recovery". I used Vol- to go to "Fastboot Protocol" and hit Vol+, which brings me to another menu with "Bootloader","Continue","Reboot-bootloader","Reboot", and "Power Off". None of these seem to let fastboot on the pc recognize the tablet. What am I doing wrong?

Hello, and thank you for using XDA Assist!
Quite possibly my easiest problem of the night.
Your bootloader is unlocked. So....flash custom recovery. One that can do adb as well (unless you Moto G also has an SD card slot, but if we are talking about the original 2013 model, then one won't be there).
Then, reboot into recovery. Make a backup. Pull the backup files to your PC (either by adb or MicroSD, if available). Extract the system backup file (is a tarball) in a Linux filesystem. Fix up your build.prop mistakes. Tar system back up, and bundle the backup as a second set to push back to your device. Restore that backup (need only be system partition). Profit.
Any further questions, can ask in the following thread (assuming you have the 2013/1st gen non-LTE version - otherwise reply here with variant details for further instructions):

im sorry man i shouldve updated and listed that i have usb debugging off -_- i was trying a stock fastboot method but ended up putting 4.3 or 4.4 instead without realizing so now its in a bootlooop still access to stock recovery tho. and so i was going to fastboot the 4.4.4 download from file factory but its down due to maintenance. so on to motorolla website i go and what ya know "cant unarchive". any ideas man? its a 45 dollar phone couldve easily replace it but something about leaving it as paper weight that will bug me forever haha plus lets not forget the satisfaction of solving the problem haha. and i have yet to read up on custom recovery which i will do if you believe it'll work. thanks for your reply man

No problem.
USB debugging being off is only a consequence if planning to ADB in from system. Recovery has it's own rules.
Not sure about the "cannot unarchive" message, but if you can get the stock ROM, that's a viable option as well.

no luck with installing Stock Rom thru Custom Recovery im using twrp. suddenly my terminal wont let me fastboot the zip file because of
"unknown partition 'Rom.zip'
error: cannont determine image filename for 'Rom.zip'
and if it helps i tried using stock recovery with this method (installed. 4.4):
androidforumsDOTcom/threads/cdma-boostmobile-only-guide-on-returning-to-stocDOT.826108/
and adb works when im on custom recovery if that helps out
and i never got to do the back up build.prop method because i had already done the first stock recovery method which i feel mightve messed things up. thanks for your replies man it really means alot

Hello,
Fastboot is unable to flash zips unfortunately. That's the recoveries job.
If you can find fastboot images of stock, you can flash back that way.
Especially at this point, I would urge you to take advantage of the help thread I mentioned earlier. They know more about your device (particularly what's available and what not) they I would.
Hope this helps!
