Hi,
My company only allows iphone, wm6 and blackberry to connect to the ActiveSync. They recently blocked all other "unauthorized" cleints.
Is there a way to spoof the client id, making the exchange server think I am connecting from an iPhone?
Maybe somewhere in the build.prop or similar ?
I have the same issue. I am not aware this can be done.

I use touchdown and I think that you can be able to spoof the agent string right here.
Here is a picture of what it looks like from the exchange server side (in case you care)
Yeah, using touchdown if you change the string to iphone it should work. I was trying to get mine setup yesterday, but it wasnt working. Put iphone in there and it worked instantly.
I have the same problem. Can the device type string be modified in the stock mail app? If not, what is the correct entry for Windows Mobile 6.1 or 6.5?

It probably has more to do with security than phone type...As android 2.1 does not allow complex passwords and remote wipe it is not allowed to sync.
Bumping this as I have the same issue. I would prefer to modify the existing email.apk instead of using touchdown. Anyone have any ideas?
Does anyone know what the entry is for Windows Mobile 6.1 or 6.5? Those are the only two allowable without the required use of a different (inferior) product at my company.
DeviceID, DeviceType, User-Agent
Any new developments in this area?
As I am not an Exchange admin at my company, I have no access to the Exchange or TMG firewall logs, but Outlook Web Access reveals information about the mobile devices I have used in the past (OWA > Options > Mobile Devices)
Each "device" is known by three separate descriptors:
* DeviceID: I have read this: For Symbian devices it's the IMEI number that is used, for iPhones it's the serial number, for Windows Phone it's a GUID and for Android devices it's usually a hash of the IMEI.
* DeviceType: iPhone, htcbravo, Android, iPad, HTC_HD2 T8585, HTC Touch Pro1 T7373, Kaiser, HTC Touch HD T8282, (and for those querying about Windows Mobile: ) PocketPC/PPC/SmartPhone/variation of this, ... (please complete!)
* Web-Agent: Android-EAS/0.1, Apple-iPad1C1/803.148, Apple-iPhone3C1/803.148... (please complete!)
Touchdown allows you to change DeviceType only.
1) Does anyone know of any other alternatives to change the DeviceType, DeviceID or Web-Agent?
2) Does anyone have any idea about how to change the stock app/OS's DeviceID, DeviceType and/or Web-Agent?
bump on this as well, i would like to use the stock email.apk but spoof it to thinking window device....as this would format viewing emails a little better for me
this would be away for us non-Touchdown users how prefer the stock email.apk to get what we would like
any chance someone could decompile the stock email.apk and look for any strings to change
I would also like the built in email.apk to be used. I don't HATE Touchdown, but I don't love it either. The built in e-mail program is simple and I just like it better. My issue is that my company only allows android to have full access with Touchdown. I can get my e-mail with the built in mail.apk program, but I cannot open attachments or forward messages. Upon further research it has to do with the device encryption exchange setting being enforced. Apparently only Touchdown truly supports this. I have tried a few hacked email.apks from a few of the threads here that fake these protocols and it still does not work for me.
My guess is that my company is only allowing attachments to be downloaded with "User Agent: TouchDown(MSRPC)/6.4.0002". Sorry for the long message. What I would like to know is where is the Useragent string stored? Can it be changed? I would change it to Touchdown or whatver Iphone shows up as.
Thanks!

Just follow the link in my post above
I had the same issue and used enhanced email from the market without issue
Sent from my X10 using XDA App
I'm also searching for how to do this... such a long time and no clear answer Obviously since we want to use the stock mail client, the last response of using EE isnt what we're looking for... This problem persists even through the latest versions of android, how hard can it possibly be to enable changing the "androidcXXXXXX" device id?
My company block android device and only allow iOS. Is there anyway to spoof
Updates on Spoofing Outlook agent id
Any updates here? I would like to spoof the Outlook agent id from a laptop, on my android. Is there a way to do that?

But those anyone knows at this time any way to bypass this blockage from Exchange?
Any android email app that reports as an iPhone?
Best regards.

Pocket PC users, especially those using a Pocket PC Phone Edition (PPC PE) device, often ask me how they can be notified of new, incoming e-mail messages automatically. It’s easier than most think – and in no way complicated to set up. In this article, I elaborate on the secrets of fetching your mail periodically, without any human intervention, only alarming you when there is some new mail to report on. I also spend some time on explaining the problems related to this and also how the auto-fetch can be really quickly toggled between disabled and enabled state.
Note that I’ve already – shortly and succinctly – discussed this question in the Mailer Roundup but, as it’s a very large article causing heavy information overload, I’ve found it better to devote an entire, full article to the subject.
To see the advantages of the periodic mail fetching this all involves, I recommend the excellent article The (non)sense of push communication by MS MVP Jaap van Ekris. He explains why periodic mail fetching can be better than even Push Mail.
What devices can you use autofetch on?
In general, all Pocket PC Phone Edition devices should work great.
“Plain” Pocket PC devices (that is, Pocket PC’s without a built-in mobile phone), on the other hand, won’t really work. The best device that was able to notify me in about 10-20% of the cases was the x51v. All the other test devices (iPAQ 2210, hx4700 (WM5), Pocket Loox 720) fared even worse – they haven’t notified me in any case.
Note that Wakeup Tweak 1.0 (also discussed here and here) won’t help either. If you give BattResumingSuspendTimeout a higher value, the Pocket PC, if it starts connecting to the network at all, won’t likely to be able to fetch new mail with more probability. It won’t do any fetching if you enable full power-up either – in all the tests I’ve run, it was just powered up without even trying to connect. Finally (after all, being powered up all the time is what we want to avoid to conserve battery power), if you force (Settings/ System/ Power/ Advanced) the device to go to sleep after a given time, it will never ever wake up again – unlike with the case of non-full-power-up cases, where it was sometimes able to wake up and notify me about new mail.
This all is topped by the flaky design of the WM2003SE operating system, which means that WM2003SE devices equipped with the Broadcom /Widcomm Bluetooth stack may encounter severe problems even with enabling the Bluetooth to an external modem. The reason for this is when the device comes out of suspended state and tries to re-establish the Bluetooth connection, it will also need to re-enable the Bluetooth unit to do so. This is bound to fail after two or three connection establishments.
All in all, stick to Pocket PC Phone Edition devices for really reliable results. If you don’t have one and don’t have the money to get one (or just refuse to get the new, converged HTC models because they are in no way really high-end and comsumer-oriented) but really need this feature, check whether your current mobile phone is able to do this. You may be pleasantly surprised – even the lowest-end current mobile phones are already able to do so, let alone any Symbian-based mobile phones (for example, ProfiMail on Symbian is able to run periodic mail checks.)
How should I use this feature the best?
To maximize battery life, you will have to stick to the built-in Messaging (under pre-WM2003SE operating systems, ‘Inbox’) client. It’s the only mailer client for the Pocket PC to support fetching mail when the PDA is, in order to save a LOT of battery, suspended. Unfortunately, other scheduling-capable mailer clients don’t let for working in suspended mode and require that the PDA is always on to function; this will result in much faster battery drain (about 60-70 mA, as opposed to the at least an order of magnitude lower suspended battery drain), even with a switched-off screen.
Enabling periodic mail check
It’s very easy to enable periodic mail checks. If you’ve already set up a/some POP3 account(s) on your device, just navigate to (Menu/) Tools/ Options, click the POP3 account you want to enable periodic mail checking on, click Next three times (so that you get to the last, 4/4 dialog of the ‘E-mail Setup’ dialog series). There, click Options instead of Finish. Then, just enable the “Connect and check for messages every:” checkbox and fill in the minute(s) as can be seen in the following screenshot:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
You can safely leave the “Connection” drop-down list on “The Internet”, as can also be seen in the above screenshot.
If you’re setting up a new account, just make sure you click Options on the last dialog and enable periodic mail fetching – just as above.
Please note that the automatic mail fetch feature of Messaging is really-really dumb – it’s either enabled or not and in no way can it be fine-tuned (or, for that matter, easily, without many taps, en/disabled, which is painful particularly when you have several mailboxes you’d like monitor). For comparison, the Palm OS-based Versamail is much closer to what one would require (for example, getting mail just between the given hours on the given weekdays), as can be seen in here:
And that’s a 3+ years old program... (no, I’m NOT a Palm OS troll! It’s just good to know in what Windows Mobile really needs some improvement.)
It's very important that you...
Minimize Messaging - when Messaging is active (in the foreground) when you suspend your PPC PE, you won't get any notifications! That is, just switch to another task (or the Today screen) or minimize Messaging before suspending your Pocket PC.
By default, some devices (for example, the HTC Wizard latest i-mate AKU2 ROM) disable New e-mail message notifications (unlike most others, for example, the WM5 hx4700, 2210, PL720, x51v etc - I've tested them in this respect). Therefore, you may want to go to Settings/Sounds & Notifications/Notifications, choose Messaging: New e-mail message from the "Select an event" drop-down list and enable the checkboxes you need:
Note that using sound/vibration will depend on the system-level setting; for example, if you switch on sound (and, consequently, disable vibration), there won’t be any vibration. Therefore, if your PPC is in your pocket and want to receive vibration notification, you will not only need to enable Vibration in Sounds & Notifications but will also need to set the volume slider to Vibration as can be seen in here:
The problem of staying-on connection
If you’ve ever tried to fetch mail with Messaging, you know that it's not possible to force the GPRS connection to be closed – once you (or, Messaging) start it, it will stay on forever, even in the suspended state of your PPC PE device. This will result in a decidedly increased power consumption of the device. Unfortunately, it’s only with third-party applications that this can be helped.
Fortunately, the application you’ll need, GB-SOFT Tweak, is both free and very easy to use. Please read this article on getting it and setting it up.
Shortcut to quickly en/disable auto mail fetch?
A common question concerns how a user can quickly (!) en/disable periodic mail fetching.
It’s, as with most of the Messaging-related settings, stored in the WindowsCE databases of the device, in the database named pmailFolders, in the field ID 33543. Here, the third bit contains a one if the autofetch for a given account is enabled and zero if it isn’t. (This means the enabled value of this field is four plus the disabled value.) This information (as with other pmailFolders-related real information, never before published by anyone else BTW ) should be enough for anyone (sorry guys, I simply don’t have to code and test one. A week later, maybe, when I won’t have Internet access in the rural Finland and, then, I’ll have some more time to code some locally doable stuff.) inclined to write an app that scans pmailFolders for records having ‘1879048192’ in the field with the ID 32772 (denoting it’s a POP3 account) and, then, just toggle the third bit in the field 33543.
You should put this in the wiki too.

Has anyone heard about whether or not NetFront 3.5 will be made available as a user-installable product, and if so: when, where, how much? The only posts I can find discuss the beta version, and I'm anxious to upgrade my version of 3.3 to the newer version.
Seems there's nothing out there... not a peep.
Anyone know anything?
Thanks!

1, i've spoken to the Access folks; they stated that, unlike 3.4, it won't be an OEM-only product (read: it can be purchased by end users)

I downloaded the 3.5 'concept version' directly from the Access website. I've been using it on my Vogue for about a month, and I like it. (Can't decide whether I prefer it to Opera 9.5 though...)

nothing. In the past, they're offered a 50% rebate for existing users. I think the case will be the same for 3.3 users.
I tired netfront 3.5 for quite some time, it's pretty good. Right now am using Opera Mobile 9.5 and Skyfire and can't decide which of the 3 is tha best.
I like NetFront, but I like how you can access items in Opera 9.5 easier. I hate having to go through the menus to get to bookmarks, etc.

Y'know, if I had only one beef, that's it. I'd really like to see easier access to bookmarks. Perhaps even have them accessed by gesture sensitive menus like back, forward and perhaps a 'pull down' motion which would serve the dual purpose of giving more screen real estate to the displayed page instead of the soft menus.
Other than that, I really love it. Tried the SkyFire browser and thought it was just alright, but had a serious flaw in that it would start every page zoomed out, and then you had to zoom in. You couldn't set a fixed zoom level and have it stay there. Every page you'd have to re-zoom.
I'll almost certainly buy a license of NF when it's released. Where I'm concerned it can't happen soon enough!
it depends on your device.
on a qwerty-bar it the menus are perfect.
if i want to go into full screen mode i press right softkey -> i -> f
bookmark: left softkey -> o
fast enough for me
They've just released a new technical preview that lasts until the end of november. No noticeable differences from the last one. I wish they would bring back the PPC2003 toolbar because it's tedious making two taps to go back.
Well it's getting nearer the end of November.
I wonder when NetFront 3.5 is going to go on sale?
I'll be sure to buy it when it's out. I totally love it over all other browsers so far on my X01T/G900. (I'm interested in IE Mobile 6 also)
NetFront shows the pages just how I like them to be shown (wvga) and puts fewer KB in the main storage memory compared to Opera.
Does Netfront render the html or is it done at a central server like Skyfire?
Sorry Joe - I don't know.
I just know it does a great job.

Netfront downloads and renders like a normal browser. No privacy issues.
Big issues for me with Netfront:
-no access to Gmail !!
-on some websites, no more than 1 tab opened, second one will go out of memory, works well with Opera 9.5

regarding gmail: just use a different user agent (right softkey -> tools -> settings -> network).
add a new one and insert the user agent IRIS uses. now gmail shows the iPhone version of its site and it works great. just copy and paste this into the user agent field:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows CE; U; Mobile; iPhone; PPC; en) AppleWebKit/522+(KHTML, like Gecko) WM5 Iris/1.0.15 Safari/419.3
I posted this lately to msmobiles forum:
ok, admit it: what are you smoking?
I tried every version of the iris browser available lately. While Beta II is an improvement, you can not compare it to the iPhone browser, let a lone say it is just as good.
it doesn't render many sites well that work great on the iphone, it is slower and crashes often times with complicated sites. wuhuw, msmobiles works! but try it with complex multi layered sites...
honestly, netfront 3.5 CV is MUCH better. It is way faster, renders more sites correctly, reformats just as nice and scrolls nicely, too.
and now some info for you:
If you get the iPhone version of a site or not solely depends on the user Agent you use.
to change the user Agent on Netfront 3.5, go to MENU -> TOOLS-> BROWSER SETTINGS -> MENU -> NETWORK
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows CE; U; Mobile; iPhone; PPC; en) AppleWebKit/522+(KHTML, like Gecko) WM5 Iris/1.0.15 Safari/419.3
i have chosen an empty user agent set (you can have multiple in netfront) and I just set it to the same value you show IRIS uses:

}
you see, it works for gmail:
and for tuaw (altough tuaw also displays it in that format without changing the user agent):
so, whats special about IRIS?
netfront is the better browser, and for keyboard equipped devices like my i780, it is even better than opera, because i can use the keyboard for shortcuts and menus.
edit: you can also change the user agent for PIE in the registry, but i don't know if IE is capable of showing the iphone sites correctly, and i don't care

Come on People!
Millions of innocent lives are at stake!
When will another version of NetFront be released or go on sale?
There is a new build of NetFront 3.5 for Windows Mobile Concept Version.
Build 729. (up from 636)
This one expires February 28 2009 (as opposed to November 30 2008 for build 636)
(These pics were taken at 480x800 and resized to 384x640 for the XDA file upload FTP)
It's now Nov. 30 and the version that was supposed to expire today still works. I've since started using Opera 9.5 beta 2. It seems to render faster and doesn't flicker like NetFront often does and rarely gets the out of memory.

That looks great. I hope you release the source code for it too.
Here is my modded version. As you see I've updated to UI for it and removed unnecessary code. The icon you are using looks great, the DroidSheep icon is so ugly so I removed it, even the Android default icon is more beautiful. Instead of using WebKit I use the default browser (Chrome) cause it's much more faster and easier to navigate on. I really like the bottom bar in your browser, looks great. For me Google isn't working cause it NEVER wants to use non-SSL.
Something that would be great is support for SSLStrip. FaceNiff has it but it costs money. I've been trying to get it working by using APK Manager & dex2jar/JD-GUI without any success. The C/C++ files aren't included in the apk.
I've been trying to change the name from DroidSheep but I had so many problems so I just skipped it. It's easy to change the name in the GUI but going through all source files and replacing everything is a bit harder.
The app is a little buggy cause sometmies it captures the logins but not every time. I'm going to investigate the included C/C++ files and see if there are any filters and how everything works.

Thanks for your reply, I think I will try work on the SSLStrip and add DroidSniff the ability to target a specific IP address.
Nice you implemented it to use the default browser (Chrome) Gonna figure out how to do that when i'm free.
Yea, need to disable the SSL so that we can get the Google cookies. On my computer Google.com loads without SSL but with my laptop it automatically use SSL.
Changing the name is quite easy. :laugh:

Dang my phone was off and this post made me turn it on and then..no link. -_-
Great job though, looks a lot better than Droid SHEEP
This is great, I have used droidsheep and facesniff for my job and now facesniff does not work with 4.x and droidsheep has some leaks and is never updated anymore also the latest source wont compile without some tweaks and messing about.
Looking forward to your app. If you make a donate version I will gladly donate to support further development and no ads
SSL strip implementation would be useful as I have compiled SSLStrip for android but it crashes often, if you figure out how to get it stable then good on ya!
thanks!
The most important feature is definitely SSL support. Just Google "SSLStrip-for-Android" and you will find the source code for it running on Android. It shouldn't be hard to implement cause DroidSheep is based on Arpspoof which is also included in this project. There is also an app you can test on Google Play but it seems to only work with USB tethering from your phone to PC.
Using the default browser is much faster. Here is how you do it:
str1 stands for the url (eg; facebook.com)
str2 stands for the cookies content (eg; for facebook you have to use the "c_user" cookie, dont have any clue why DroidSheep is also using the datr, lu, and xs cookies, it just makes it slower to initialize cookies)
Code:
Intent i = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW);
i.setData(Uri.parse("http://" + str1 + ":8080/" + str1 + "@" + str2));
startActivity(i);
Here is the de-compiled version of FaceNiff. Nothing new here, the "faceniff" which contains the SSLStrip library is already compiled and the sources for it is not included in the project.

Here is the version of SSLStrip I built from the latest source, minimal changes (better icon n stuff)

+1000 SSL strip is important, facebook and twitter now requires https login. Without ssl strip this app would be obsolete for facebook, twitter penetration.
For any of those who can wait for this app, you may also want to check out a similar app known as FaceNiff.
Have Fun!

So you don't think we know what FaceNiff is? It costs money that's the only bad thing and DroidSheep is free and open source but without support for SSLStrip.
nice i like it
it will be amazing when u add
1-sslstrip with auto save (user + password)
2- open sniffed profiles in the stock browser
3-screenshot to sniffed profile
4-auto save cookies
and this can help u
http://comax.fr/yamas/bt5/yamas.sh
The script I posted on the first page was taken from FaceNiff and after some research it seems like it's forwarding all traffic to port 8080 where it's doing the SSL spoofing and enables opening sessions in the default browser (running through the proxy server). When you click on a profile in FaceNiff it will open "http://facebook.com:8080/[email protected]_IDENTIFIER" and the binary will return a response which will set the cookies and rederict the user to the normal Facebook website. It was working when I tested it but then I realized the FaceNiff app was running on my Android, I stopped it and it didnt work anymore.
As fatcobrah said most important is SSLStrip as most websites are forcing users to use SSL and open profiles in the default browser cause it's much easier to navigate in, you can zoom in/out and it has a very fast Javascript engine (at least in Chrome). Improved filters to capture more websites would also be great and grabbing the users Facebook picture like in FaceNiff is also very useful.
Also found this string inside the faceniff binary "all your passwords are belong to Us!.
btw ARP-spoofing is kinda slow. i mean, having your cellphone work as an "inbetween" router dramatically slows down the connection. i've hacked my bother's account (nothing bad, just posted a "you've been hacked" status). and now everytime the internet slows down, he suspects i'm trying to hack him.
so when you make you AWESOME app, please try making the ARP-spoofing faster.

Yea, agree, and I also found out that the port 8080 will not work unless you start a background service to do the forwarding job like FaceNiff does.
I also looked at faceniff binary and it contain some interesting string. I think when I back home I will try to do that like FaceNiff does.

This is because of limited bandwidth and processing power of most Android devices, there might be bandwidth problems in networks with a lot of traffic. This might lead to problems and slow connections for the whole network.

Without arpspoof running: http://www.speedtest.net/result/2053296350.png
With arpspoof running: http://www.speedtest.net/result/2053297706.png
You say it's slower? You're wrong.
I just tried the SSLSlip ported to Android and here are the results:
1. If you have your homepage as "https://www.google.com" it wont load. You have to start browsing on a non-SSL site and the web proxy NanoHTTPD will transform all https links to http.
2. When I logged in to Google the account name and password was shown in the GUI but it was logged out directly after the page refreshed. Maybe NanoHTTPD can't handle cookies correctly?
3. Much slower and battery is draining much more faster cause everything is going through the NanoHTTPD client.
FaceNiff is running the SSLStrip and webserver in the binary file (Linux kernel) and this port is running it inside the Dalvik virtual machine which will make it go slower. We already know that arpspoof is compatibility with this but not sure about the droidsheep binary...
well, my experience with droidsheep was a slow surfing situation...
and you can't speed test it. explaination:
ARP-spoof is making the PC think that the phone is the router, instead of the actual router.
so with ARP-spoof on: PC---Phone---Router---Internet
now, the speed test is only between the Router and the internet. and with ARP-spoof on, it's between the Phone and the Internet.
the connection will still be slow, because having the Phone run as router is actually really hard to do, having the Phone track the PC's activity, and interfere with it is hard.
the phone gets the command from the PC, then send it to the router, the router responds to the phone, then the phone sends the data to the PC... so it's a slower process than without ARP-spoof.

This is rather interesting. Will you release the source code?
The source code is already released here:

Please note that xDragonZ is not the author of this project, he have only changed the GUI and improved it. Here you can see how it works:

I dont know if this has already been posted, but I could not find anything that enabled multi-user support directly.
It is fairly simple to add multi-user support to your Android 4.2 rom using the device overlay.
To enable multi-user support you will have to add the following to your config.xml:
<integer name="config_multiuserMaximumUsers">8</integer>
This will enable the Users section in Settings to add/remove new users.
Additionally you will have to modify layout-port/keyguard_host_view.xml, because the layout-port version of keyguard_host_view.xml does not have the multi-user selector.
You will need to add the following to the layout:
<include layout="@layout/keyguard_multi_user_selector"/>
Instead of modifying the layout xml directly you can also just add a modified version of the .xml to your device overlay.
That will add the user selector to the keyguard/lockscreen.
The changes can be found here:
https://github.com/adrian-bl-hox-jb...mmit/ba74d22a7e88f73c0c639ed23aac8617cc9abc9f

In case there is just one user it will not show the user selector in the keyguard/lockscreen.
Known issues:
* The dialer only works in the main user and and trying to dial in any other user will result in a crash, because the dialer does not support multi-user yet.
Cool, thanks for sharing! (Although, I think having more users on an android device is kinda useless, but very nice that its possible)
This can be usefull when you have others Using your phone then you can set password for main acc and when others ask your phone they can open guest account or other...
this will get better...

I used to agree about it being useless for phones, but I also share a family gmail account and I like having that completely seperated from my own user so that I don't have calendars etc mixed in one user.
And in case you only have one user everything is the same as without the multiple user ability so it kinda made sense just adding it and let the user decide.
would someone do me a favor and attempt to make a phone call in a user profile that is not the main user, i added this in and i get fc when i attempt to make a call. just wondering what others are experiencing
Edit
So.I've had a few devs including myself add this to a quick build. All of us of different sources have the same issue and I would highly recommend not adding it because if someone had to dial out the phone FC when u press call
So imagine having to call 911. And you can't until your switch users... Probably not a good idea.
Its a great find. But that could cause some real problems
We have implemented this change in our AOSP build on the HTC One X without any issues.
If you could get me a logcat of the crash I can take a look, but I cant think it has to do with multi-user support as it is already baked into JB yet only 1 user is enabled by default.
Are you sure you have only added:
<integer name="config_multiuserMaximumUsers">8</integer>
to your config.xml and did not add anything else?

Correct. And that was the only thing I changed. Keep in mind yes its built into aosp but only for phones. No log cat cause as soon as I ran into that problem I didn't bother to continue and just abandoned the changes. I did add the changes to aosp as well as a custom source and both had the same result as did a few other devs I had try it.
No worry's tho.

OK I probably still have the zip laying around, I may through it on to.pull a log.
nvm i now know what you mean... trying to call with a user other then the device owner FCs... Ill see if that can be fixed
Just looking at Phone package source:
* Returns the singleton instance of the PhoneApp if running as the
* primary user, otherwise null.
So then it crashes because it has no PhoneGlobals for the non-primary user.
Most probably the Phone app does not support multi-users because it would register the broadcast receiver for handling calls multiple times... If this can be fixed easily I cant answer immediatly

That's what I was talking about. You only have that problem on none main user and only when u make a call. Ie dial number and press call button.
Indeed... The phone app does check if its running on the first user:
Code:
if (UserHandle.myUserId() == 0) {
// We are running as the primary user, so should bring up the
// global phone state.
mPhoneGlobals = new PhoneGlobals(this);
mPhoneGlobals.onCreate();
}
But instead of throwing a nice message when opening the dialer it crashes when making a call...
If I have some time left Ill see if its possible to add multi-user support to the Phone package
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but could someone point me in the right direction as to where the config.xml file is?

Would like to know this as well. I have a 2 year old that would greatly benefit from this. If she can do nothing other than use the apps I install, this would be awesome.
config.xml is not something you can edit on your phone.
Its an overlay file that has to be edited when building a custom android 4.2 rom.
Thanks man for letting us all know

is there a way to add this using just the rom's zip ??
Is it possible that this bit of code in system/core/include/private/android_filesystem_config.h might have something to do with it....?
Code:
#define android_id_count \
(sizeof(android_ids) / sizeof(android_ids[0])) ###EDIT: oops, I had it changed to 10 to see what would happen.
struct fs_path_config {
unsigned mode;
unsigned uid;
unsigned gid;
const char *prefix;
Edit: Now that I am looking at it, it may just be the creation of an empy array that will get populated later, I may be wrong though, I am just learning C, kinda becoming a Jack-of-all-Trades-Master-of-Puppets.
it also states this closer to the top...
Code:
/* This is the master Users and Groups config for the platform.
** DO NOT EVER RENUMBER.
*/
#define AID_ROOT 0 /* traditional unix root user */
#define AID_SYSTEM 1000 /* system server */
I believe these setting get baked into the ramdisk during a build, a few lines here also cause new unkown files and folders to be created as 0644 root root I believe and results in them not being executable.
I think I am going to have to edit this file quite a bit, I am trying to get glibc based services to start, some do like apache2 and rpcbind, the nfs-common is giving me trouble as well as postgresql, pgsql complains about not being able to open a listening socket, permission denied, so I added a postgres user to this file and some folder and file permissions for it,

Been trying for a while to get this to work but I think I need to create a bridge for Androids User, UID, GID , stuff with Debian's whole /etc/passwd /etc/shadow scheme, one that allows both lists to become synchronized adding to eachother what was missing and preventing user creating with identical uid's. I wonder what init's uid is, cuz I think daemon's is set to 1 in /etc/passwd . Not sure.
It would be greate if we had user authentication to use commands like su or even port over sudo for one shot su service of a command like 'cp'.
Do you want to know if someone is connected to your wireless network without your permission? Your connection is slow and you suspect that someone are stealing your wifi? Are you afraid that the neighbor may have access to your personal data?
Wifi Inspector is a simple tool to see all the devices connected to our network (both wired and wifi, whether consoles, TVs, pcs, tablets, phones etc ...), giving relevant data such as IP address, manufacturer, device name and MacAddress.
Wifi Inspector also allows to save a list of known devices with custom name and find intruders in less than 30 seconds. This makes it easier for us and you will not need to go checking the data whenever we make a scan.
All this in a clear and simple design that allows us to see that our personal data are safe in a few seconds.
No doubt, Wifi Ispector ALWAYS find ALL connected devices!!
We continue working to improve Wifi Inspector and we greatly appreciate that you share your opinions whether positive or negative. We have almost no reports of problems in the poor ratings (only one star with no comment) This makes difficult that we can improve the application. Please if you have any problems / suggestions do not hesitate to send it to us, in your comment or with email, and we will try to fix it.

Very Interesting Concept however it failed to work. Did not detect my nexus 7 2013. Only found the router and my device. (Moto G)
Netgear router.. wifi passworded protected (possibly WPA2).
And interstitial ads on exit first time i've seen that.

Hi hotspot_volcano,
In some cases a device close de wifi in suspended state or is time out response caused by a low connection quality. We tested in few big nets with more than 100 devices with no errors.
Have you tested Wifi Inspector from the Nexus with same results? and in other wifi?
Thanks for your comment

Well on the nexus 7 2013 (rooted) I was able to find the connected wired device as well as my phone. (found 6 devices)
They are marked with an cross whatever that means?
Tried it again on my Moto G (stock) and it still shows only 2 devices.
And the wifi router is problematic sometimes its hard to connect to it but once a device is connected its good 90% of the time.
The result on your Moto G : Wifi Inspector reset the wifi connection at start, then if fails to reconnect or reconnected in more than 30 seconds may not locate all devices. Try scan with other router, i think your get good results.
A device with a cross means that is not in the "safe list" (known devices). You can add your known devices on the "device screen" and, if you want, can set a customized name. For the next scans you will see all known devices with a "V" mark and with the customized name.
I tried it out, looks promising. I compared the reported attached devices from my Netgear WNDR3700v2 router with Netgear Genie. Everything matches up, nice job!
The UI is fairly pleasant, but does not adhere to current Android design guidelines. You've got the option to delete known devices list hidden in the legacy menu. My device does not have that by default, however I add it with GravityBox specifically for older apps that still have it. Folks with devices that do not have hardware / software menu button will never discover that option. If you add the 3 dot menu in the upper right for it, that would work well for now. If you decide to add more things, you could also add it there or create a hamburger menu in the upper left.
I haven't found any bugs to report thus far, that's always a good sign. Keep it up!
As I mentioned in my Play Store review: Those that think this can ban unknown users must realize you can't do that from your stock router firmware to begin with, how could a simple app do that?
The application seems ok, but compared to Fing network tools, this doesn't bring anything to the table, and it has ads. So, nice work but it offers not much.

About the hidden option "reset known device list", the true is that we are thinking about if it's really helpful or not, but is probably that we will change it on the next update.

Hi rbrandser , Fing is an excellent application, but exists many types of user and we think Fing is oriented for some and Wifi Inspector for others, ie, anyone can click and see if have or not intruders, but not everyone knows how to do a 'wake on lan "or even know what it is.
We have prioritized scanning reliability, simplicity and finally the design (in this order).
We understand that for many users with experience and knowledge Wifi Inspector may be "short", but for the rest, we offer an easy, visual and 100% reliable in the scan result application.
We will greatly appreciate that you share your opinion.

Good app, but I don't like the interface and it lacks a lot features, which similar apps like Dsploit and Fing do have. So for me there is no reason to use this.

As far as I can see it's only able to tell you what devices are connected to your network and their MAC address. While it works like a charm in that department having a few more options, I must admit, would have been nice.
Using the app causes my phone to disconnect from WiFi, so not much use! (S4). Had to uninstall...

Hi wouter-visser,
We tested Fing and Wifi Inspector in various scenarios and the general differences that are appreciated:
- Usually Inspector Wifi is faster in large networks with many devices.
- Usually Fing is faster on small networks with few devices.
- Wifi Inspector finds more device names (very important for intrusion detection)
- The reliability of scanning is very close to 100% in both (a bad coverage or occasional factor can make a device undetectable)
- Fing has more features (not required for intrusion detection)
- The Inspector Wifi interface is minimalist and fing is more professional.
We understand that wifi inspector is not for everyone, but we think that many people are grateful that can check if they have an intruder with a simple but accurate application.
We will greatly appreciate that you share your opinion.

We are a small software company and recently we have begun to develop applications for mobile devices. The ads are the way we get some benefits to further develop and improve our applications. We did not use intrusive advertising and we never will use it. Also is available the pro version (ad free) for people who want to support us.
Thank you for sharing your opinion is important for us.

I think you can use WifiKill for this (if you have android rooted) or Netcut for windows.
For security find the Mcc address of the intruder and ban him from the MAC address filter in the router.

Not 100% effective btw, a person with a little knowledge and some googling can easily spoof a MAC address. A better option would be to change/add a wifi password. Preferrably WPA or WPA2 with a nice long passphrase.
No issues here, worked well in a small network with 6 connected devices (and recognized all).
If you need help to translate to Portuguese-BR, let me know.
Thanks.
